I used to hear that children's dream is one of the purest things in the world. When Ruu said he wants to travel the world like Traveler, it kinda broke me inside since we knew that is not possible yet he still yearned for it. It also sickens me, that Ruu's dream was gated by the very own people he loved. I mean they literally thought Ruu, whose singing liked by the Thunderbird, should be sacrificed like, for real how is that logical in any way? Yet, it already happened so it can't be undone. In the end, I'm still glad Traveler can make Ruu's dream come true (sort of) by bringing the feather on their travels. For me this story is a solid 8,5/10 ! I hope they voice these kind of quests too in the future since it add that spice that's lacking when playing these quests.
no, Ruu was offering himself for the Kapatchir in order for wished his friends to come back from “Sea of Darkness” and happiness for his people since the Thunderbird doesn’t care at all. this is why he was so happy about the ceremony.
@@achmadputra2 I don't think Ruu realized exactly what being the sacrifice entailed until it happened because the elders kinda skirt the topic when one of the younger adults ask if they are really planning on doing that. @@Aleph3575 he also know he killed so many time in the end of the quest. i think this why he said he tired and wanted to “rest”, knowing his time was almost up.
Japanese/CN translation on the Thundering Fury Artefact is that Ruu's Sacrifice Ritual involves pulling out his bones and separate it from the flesh, draining his blood to a cup (remember that this is a loop events and Ruu is experiencing this for like Eternity) Edit: oh yeah forgot about his tongue is cut while he's alive Edit 2: the NPC Mata who execute Ruu is probably Ruu's own Father
Can understand why the Thunderbird got so eternally pissed, that not only she wiped out the entire tribe, but also curse them to experience the cataclysm for all eternality. Do remember that in the world of Teyvat, things such as spirits and realm of afterlife does exist...being denied/unable to move on into afterlife is also a thing there as well.
A few days after the quest ended, and the whole thing still never fails to make me tear up; especially when I'm exploring Tsurumi and Ruu's song starts playing. Every time it does, I refuse to do anything but pan the camera around, hoping that from somewhere, Ruu would finally be able to see how pretty the horizon is. I haven't changed my gadget either; I always carry the feather with me. I was not expecting this particular story quest to affect me this much, despite being fully aware that it's all fictional. Genshin will definitely release more stories in the future, but I hope we never forget Ruu and his song.
When Hibiki unsealed the Thunderbird's remains on Seirai it doesn't lead to the death of Ako Domeki instead he got blasted all the way to the Golden Apple Archipelago. The Maguu Kenki there was brought by his ship. He eventually escape with the Archipelago inhabitants and makes it back to Seirai only to see its current state. He then left to sail the world unknown if he died or not from old age. You can read about it in The Catch. Otherwise good video I liked it
I thought yashiori was depressing. I was wrong. Tsurumi takes first place for most depressing story, especially those who read the thundering fury artifact set and knew what was to be.
imagine being excited to hear your friend singing and then find him dead without bones with a cup filled with his blood... and that friend experiencing it again and again.
@@edwin7788 well the thunderbird is the one who put the curse on the whole tribe but it started going downhill after the tribe sacrificed ruu, thinking the thunderbird took a liking on ruu and would satisfy her to see a sacrifice, which ruu agreed on because he only wanted the best for the tribe. in the end, moral of the story is that assumptions can cause a bird with lightning powers to curse you with destruction for eternity until her friend sings for her again.
Tbh I think ruu and the thunderbird taught me something and that was to spend time with your loved ones because once they are gone you can't see them again
Gotta admit..this quest left me teary eyed..especially how Ruu accepts his fate. It's like telling a child that everything will be fine but you know that he will be gone by tomorrow.
A lot of big content creators have been complaining about the lack of genshin content but they don't appreciate the gems like these within the game. The vast lore within each location, each quest, each weapon, each artifact, each books you collect when you travel the land of Teyvat. I wish more content creators like you feature these.
I use to hate doing the quest cause I'm impatient and wanted to finish it quickly, but then I got invested in Ruu's tragedy. Ruu wanted to help his people and accepted being sacrificed while Kama believed it to be absurd and left while the other simply followed through with it cause that's what they've always known. Some people might be mad and argue why they would sacrifice a child and whatnot. But, we do have to remember that they've mostly lived their entire lives within that fog and what they know is verily limited to what their ancestors passed down. The thunderbird killed them for killing her friend but have not bothered with them for generations even though she knew what they were doing. I guess I was touched when Ruu mention how he hoped that his sacrifice would appease the thunderbird so that lightning that scares his father would stop. Also, would like to know if we ever will learn of the meaning of the fog
I think Tsurumi island could have some kind of connection to the destruction of Khaenri'ah, or it could be a seperate nation or civilization like the kingdom that used to be in dragonspine
Khaenri'ah cataclysm happened 5 centuries ago (the time also when the Traveller twin failed to make it pass Celestia); The tribe was wipe out by Thunderbird more than a millennia ago; The underground ruin most likely predate that of the tribe (tribefolks know the existence of those ruin, alas unable to make sense of them)... The murals within the underground ruin share some similarities with those found in Dragonspine... Though the ruin have Khaenri'ah mechs stalking the ground...
There's an older civilization that existed long ago before the 7 nations, it's said that this civilization used to exist in all of teyvat, this civilization also created elemental monoliths and the domains you farm (yes it's canon that you enter domains), and it was wiped out long ago for unknown reasons
@@MwRYumI like the analysis but the last one is debatable. It was said in the "We Will Be Reunited" quest that the Ruin Guards wandered aimlessly all across Teyvat after Khaenri'ah was destroyed. It's likely that the Ruin Mechanisms like the Sentinels also wandered aimlessly until eventually settling in the locations where we see them in the game.
I think they wanted to, but Ruu realized it was his time to move on since his last promise was fulfilled and he'd been reliving torture for a thousand years. Ruu needed to rest :[

Inazuma is filled with sadness as it is with its archon. The rain and thunder represents what the shogun and inazuma are feeling. With stillness and eternity there must be pain and sacrifice.
I haven’t seen anyone talk about it, but Tsurumi island and it’s inhabitants are supposed to be an allegory for the Hokkaido Ainu, an indigenous peoples of the Far East - during the quest line, Paimon notes that the names of Tsurumi island are strange, and it’s because they use the Ainu naming convention as opposed to Japanese. Wen Kamuy, a species of domesticated animal on Tsurumi, are believed to be evil gods that hunger for human flesh in real life Ainu culture. Ainu refuse to eat Wen Kamuy. The flavour text for the Tsurumi island namecard, ‘Kanna Kapatcir Kamuy’, would translate to something like ‘great eagle god of thunder’. Just thought it was interesting.
It was a very wholesome quest. The quest spanned over 3-4 days I think, but journey and exploration into completing this quest felt so rewarding. The whole story is tragic, from misunderstandings that resulted in a tribe's demise, and a beautiful island full of mystery to being desolate and full of enemies. The silver lining to all of this is that Ruu got to sing to Kapatcir toward the end of the world quest, and Kama got to go on a journey with Sumida, I'm so happy for them. The fact that the feather is a memento of our journey through Seirai and Tsurumi, and Ruu and Kapatcir through our journey ahead, is truly heart warming. The quest that follows of sending the remaining souls to the boatman was awesome as well. If ever we feel like remembering how worthwhile this world quest was , Mount Kanna will always be a reminder. What a wrap!
Now that I actually cry. My English lvl has some gaps in it so I cannot fully understand what he said at the end. Thx a lot for giving a summary. Man so we keep he feather in or belongings. So if in the future will went berserk just like the abyss twin, imagine how sad will ruu be because he is witnessing us in that state through the feather.

Not gonna lie I feel like Ruu’s song and one of the OST of Tsurumi Island really resonates with me, and I think this might be where Genshin begins the path to depression like Honkai. You can finally rest now Ruu.
Seriously, each release in inazuma is more depressing than the last. First it was a shrine maiden who wanted to cleanse a corrupt root and ends up exorcising herself. Then one guy who thought he could make a difference ends up just being a casualty because of the fatui Now this
I actually didn’t want to do this quest up until I realized that Ruu’s just experiencing a continuous time loop of suffering. “Blindly I imagined I could Keep you under glass Now I understand to hold you I must open up my hands And watch you rise Spread your wings and prepare to fly For you have become a butterfly, oh Fly abandonedly into the sun If you should return to me We truly were meant to be So spread your wings and fly Butterfly”
This has to be the most engaging world quest Ever! Aside from the Cleansing Sakura Quest. Such a tragic tale but ended up a fulfilling an old promise. I can only imagine what kinds of history and tragedy that happens in their own respective regions of Teyvat and we're here waiting to find the true nature of this world.
I can’t recall where I learned this but Hibiki unsealed the thunderbird’s power to release a thunder manifestation to aid Ako Domeki. The result was catastrophic and this sent ako domeki ans his crew to apple archipelago.
I just can't stress on how much the community is toxic. They litteraly ditched tsurumi as being just a useless *filler* even tho it has a ton of content .... RIP ruu 😓🙏
They not only drained Ruu's blood 😭😭😭😭 they chopped him and separated his flesh to his bones 😭😭😭 I now understand why the thunderbird is so mad as hell😭😭😭😭
Fun(?) fact: Places on Tsurumi Island are named based on the language of the Ainu people. One of the possible explanations for Autake in Autake Plains is: "Au" can be used for "tongue" "Ta" means "to cut" And "ke" means "the place of ..." So "Autake" can mean "the place of tongue-cutting", implying that Ruu got his tongue cut off as part of the ritual because the Thunderbird loved his singing voice.

You can notice the lines of the Thundering Manifestation that we fight when she talks about Ruu's. Also the description of the Thundering Manifestation is that it will show up when there is anger and suffering, so both Tsurumi and Seirai islands make them appear
this is why i never exchanged the feather gadget with something else - even though i want to use the maple feather to glide fast, i want to honour ruu's request and i wont break that promise :(

After nearing the end of the first quest based around Tsurumi, I said, and I quote,”Please don’t die Ruu.” I’m glad he doesn’t ‘die’ in the way I imagined but I’m relieved to see that the Thunderbird and Ruu were reunited in the form of his singing. And another thing that I noticed, in the Thundering Fury artifact set, it pretty much sums up Ruu and the Thunderbird’s relationship. It’s so wholesome and refreshing to see MiHoYo touch up some lore.
I was waiting for this video after playing the quest. Since there was no voice, it was hard to concentrate on anything. Finally I understood it all. Thank you
When I first stepped inside tsurumi and there’s this odd kid alone in the fog I already had an inkling he was ghost… as the quests progresses I knew there is some sad story behind because mihoyo wouldn’t invest so much time on a character like this. had to comment here about how dark his story actually is..... someone calculated the number of times Ruu sacrificed himself and it amounted to 180,000+ times. since the cycle actually happens every 4 days and has been doing so for almost 2000 years... also the manner of sacrifice that they made. The sacrificed would have their bones broken and the meat inside their bones would then be removed. their throat would be slit and their blood drained. their blood and meat from the bone would then be poured into a goblet and offered to Kapatcir.... and all of this would be done while the sacrifice is alive and awake and would have to endure it until it is over before they can die.... Ruu literally had his bone marrow removed and blood drained from his body.... WHILE HE WAS ALIVE AND AWAKE. HE FELT ALL THAT PAIN EVERY SINGLE TIME FOR OVER 180,000 TIMES FOR ALMOST 2000 YEARS.
To add more of it, after u finished the whole chain quest, u can find wondering soul/ghost of some villager of tsurumi island (mostly childrens and elders) who still have linger on this island, and u need to help/fulfill their wishes so they can go to the afterlife. Some are easy to complete some are hard, but they give u precious chest with 30-40 primo in it
And as the curse finally lifted, the spirits of all those tribefolks that trapped were free to move on into the afterlife, though a few of them need help to sort out unfinished business, thus be unshackled from the mortal realm at last.
Made me cry a 2nd time cause of this video and the music you chose to put in. And I'm actually surprised how much Golden Apple story is tied to this. I knew that they were from Inazuma because of that Maguu Kenki puppet, but I didn't realize the reason for their trapping there was also tied to Seirai island events.
I read the lore on the artifacts first, so when I go to Tsurumi on the very first day of 2.2 and met Ruu, I know what will happen to him in the end and I already cry on that first quest.
This is such a good story. I wish there was voice lines. But I guess Ruu's voice makes up for it. I didn't expect that, and got goosebumps and teared up a bit. I occassionally visit the island because of Ruu's background music.
I'd like to think that the Electro Manifestation in Seirai Island is the manifestation of the hatred the Thunderbird had for Ruu's tribe after sacrificing him. The dialogue it makes when you fight it on the center of Tsurumi Island during the questline felt convincing enough.
What if Oz is the reincarnation of thunderbird just like Guoba who is previously known as the Stove God? Do note that the thundering manifestation is only a manifestation of thunder bird due to it’s regret and sorrow on not hearing ruu sing I have claims to support this theory but im too lazy to type it hahaha might tell everyone if this comment gets popular

And once it happened, he was stuck in a loop of it having to happen over and over.
@@Aleph3575 he acknowledged that because after all Ruu was the son of a priest, he know about the ceremony and the sacrificed ritual.

Japanese/CN translation on the Thundering Fury Artefact is that Ruu's Sacrifice Ritual involves pulling out his bones and separate it from the flesh, draining his blood to a cup (remember that this is a loop events and Ruu is experiencing this for like Eternity)
Edit: oh yeah forgot about his tongue is cut while he's alive
Edit 2: the NPC Mata who execute Ruu is probably Ruu's own Father

And his tongue is cut from his body

Can understand why the Thunderbird got so eternally pissed, that not only she wiped out the entire tribe, but also curse them to experience the cataclysm for all eternality.
Do remember that in the world of Teyvat, things such as spirits and realm of afterlife does exist...being denied/unable to move on into afterlife is also a thing there as well.
Oh my....I'm crying right now...shit...
That's sweet ^^

When Hibiki unsealed the Thunderbird's remains on Seirai it doesn't lead to the death of Ako Domeki instead he got blasted all the way to the Golden Apple Archipelago. The Maguu Kenki there was brought by his ship. He eventually escape with the Archipelago inhabitants and makes it back to Seirai only to see its current state. He then left to sail the world unknown if he died or not from old age. You can read about it in The Catch. Otherwise good video I liked it

in the end, moral of the story is that assumptions can cause a bird with lightning powers to curse you with destruction for eternity until her friend sings for her again.
Tbh I think ruu and the thunderbird taught me something and that was to spend time with your loved ones because once they are gone you can't see them again
Ah and his tongue cut off alive btw, very Ironic considering that the birdie liked his singing the most
Gotta admit..this quest left me teary eyed..especially how Ruu accepts his fate.
Lot of famous genshin CC can't be bothered to do anything that isn't Gameplay. domain or abyss
The lore of this game is fucking abundant.
Thunderbird: oh no there's a fog that is covering the tsurumi island
Thunderbird eating popcorn: *damn that's messed up*
I love that the traveller and Paimon were totally willing to just adopt Ruu and take him with them on their journey if he could have left with them.
Most likely separate, this island had an ultra ancient civilization that worshipped stars and moon, they also acknowledged the heavenly island.
Khaenri'ah cataclysm happened 5 centuries ago (the time also when the Traveller twin failed to make it pass Celestia);
The tribe was wipe out by Thunderbird more than a millennia ago;
The underground ruin most likely predate that of the tribe (tribefolks know the existence of those ruin, alas unable to make sense of them)...
The murals within the underground ruin share some similarities with those found in Dragonspine...
Though the ruin have Khaenri'ah mechs stalking the ground...
@@MwRYum :0
There's an older civilization that existed long ago before the 7 nations, it's said that this civilization used to exist in all of teyvat, this civilization also created elemental monoliths and the domains you farm (yes it's canon that you enter domains), and it was wiped out long ago for unknown reasons
@@MwRYumI like the analysis but the last one is debatable. It was said in the "We Will Be Reunited" quest that the Ruin Guards wandered aimlessly all across Teyvat after Khaenri'ah was destroyed. It's likely that the Ruin Mechanisms like the Sentinels also wandered aimlessly until eventually settling in the locations where we see them in the game.
i was hoping the traveler would take ruu to mondtadt and see the beautiful scenery or feel the wind of freedom, atleast fot his last moments🙁

That's interesting! Thank you for sharing this info! 😭 I was trying to figure out the meaning of the name ruu gave to the thunder bird
Never have I thought I would cry legit tears from an NPC quest and lore. But here we are. I became so invested with Ruu and the Thunderbird's story.
Ruu's song hits me the most with this story.

When a side quest has more depth than the entire Inazuma main story 🌚
Seriously, each release in inazuma is more depressing than the last. First it was a shrine maiden who wanted to cleanse a corrupt root and ends up exorcising herself.
Then one guy who thought he could make a difference ends up just being a casualty because of the fatui
Now this
I actually didn’t want to do this quest up until I realized that Ruu’s just experiencing a continuous time loop of suffering.
“Blindly I imagined I could
Keep you under glass
Now I understand to hold you
I must open up my hands
And watch you rise
Spread your wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly, oh
Fly abandonedly into the sun
If you should return to me
We truly were meant to be
So spread your wings and fly
Butterfly”
I cried a little when I read the "Take this feather into the world. You did promise him you would, after all." part.

Fun(?) fact: Places on Tsurumi Island are named based on the language of the Ainu people. One of the possible explanations for Autake in Autake Plains is:
"Au" can be used for "tongue"
"Ta" means "to cut"
And "ke" means "the place of ..."
So "Autake" can mean "the place of tongue-cutting", implying that Ruu got his tongue cut off as part of the ritual because the Thunderbird loved his singing voice.

I’m glad he doesn’t ‘die’ in the way I imagined but I’m relieved to see that the Thunderbird and Ruu were reunited in the form of his singing. And another thing that I noticed, in the Thundering Fury artifact set, it pretty much sums up Ruu and the Thunderbird’s relationship. It’s so wholesome and refreshing to see MiHoYo touch up some lore.

had to comment here about how dark his story actually is..... someone calculated the number of times Ruu sacrificed himself and it amounted to 180,000+ times. since the cycle actually happens every 4 days and has been doing so for almost 2000 years...
also the manner of sacrifice that they made.
HE FELT ALL THAT PAIN EVERY SINGLE TIME FOR OVER 180,000 TIMES FOR ALMOST 2000 YEARS.
somehow this story is better than the WHOLE archon quest of inazuma
I've been waiting for the information you got for this island!! good job!
I swear to god Inazuma as a whole is the land of anguish, sadness, PTSD and neglected children
Such a beautiful story 😭😭😭😭
i was literally waiting for you to upload this, i didn't understand anything when doing this quest
Thank you for this, I completely spaced out towards the end because I have the attention span of a newborn
I'd like to think that the Electro Manifestation in Seirai Island is the manifestation of the hatred the Thunderbird had for Ruu's tribe after sacrificing him. The dialogue it makes when you fight it on the center of Tsurumi Island during the questline felt convincing enough.
Damn Inazuma kids really build different.
What's crazy is that this entire quest and zone was based on the item descriptions of the Thundering Fury artifact set from 1.0.
Me and my brother we're joking around about Ruu getting ready to be sacrificed.. Turns out he actually was💀
Thanks for making me cry again. 😭
