Been watching a few hitfilm tutorials. Axel and the team are very thorough and easy to follow ! No action is left unexplained. It's like a combined tute and glossary in one. Great to watch !
Just wanted to say, these tutorials are excellent, they're very clear and explained extremely well. This one has really helped me understand what mocha does and I now have a better understanding of the term camera solving - Great stuff
One of the previous tutorials briefly covers this, yes you can use multiple splines so long as the splines share a few frames during the movement. This way the tracker has new reference points to pick back up again when the various splines go out of view.
@mdshagman - In the actual scene, the only thing that is moving is the camera. The walls, floor, etc. are stationary, and the camera is moving around them. To match that movement, you need to know how the camera is moving, so when you add new elements to the scene, the move will match. If all you need are tracked points, then you can use the Point Tracker built into HitFilm.
fe-fe RUclips won't let us reply to your comment directly but mocha HitFilm is included in HitFilm 2 Ultimate. If you want to test HitFilm and see how it works for you, just download the free demo: www.hitfilm.com/ultimate/demo. When you buy HitFilm 2 Ultimate, you get mocha included. Hope this answers your question.
Ok, so I need help. I'm using HF 4 Pro and even when I follow the directions EXACTLY the Magical Fireball effect still moves with the camera even though it shouldn't. The instructions have been in-depth and easy to understand yet I'm still having this issue
We have a wide range of systems. I don't know off-hand what Axel uses - will check with him when his bit of America wakes up later. The machine I use for tutorials has an old quad core CPU and a 650 Ti Boost GPU. It's a good value video card which balances power and price perfectly.
@Philip Wesson - don't ever track reflections. If you have puddles reflecting, then you should hold out those areas, so the puddles aren't tracked. Same goes for the windows. Track the frames between the windows, but not the reflective panes themselves.
The tutorial was long but I totally understood everything you were saying so I can't complain. This is perfect because I needed to track a scene and didn't know how until now. I have one, two-part question. Why does Mocha capture the camera movement when all you really need/want are the tracked points? Is there any useful reason to have the recorded camera movement?
Are you planning a virtual set tutorial using mocha? Since mocha doesn't follow "points". With a green/blue screen background, the only idea I can think of is using boxes with high contrasting tape on their perimeters to represent floor and wall locations. But then I have to mask out the tape when keying.
Ok, so I need help. I'm using HF 4 Pro and even when I follow the directions EXACTLY the Magical Fireball effect still moves with the camera even though it shouldn't. The instructions have been in-depth and easy to understand yet I'm still having this issue
Help. I exported The data just like you he showed in The video. But when I imported it to My project, it just made an plane with Quad warp. How do I do it properly?
I recently shot some footage outside in a low contrast area. It had rained, so there were puddles on the concrete. This was in a parking lot (car park) near my office, so there were lines painted on the ground, and paneled windows in the offices to track from, but I kept getting horrible tracks. What is the best way to compensate for low contract and puddles reflecting the sky situations?
Hey nice program, i love it but i have some issues. when i try to export from mocha to hit film, i can't reproduce the video clip everything seems to work correctly except the video clip. any suggestions?
Dear Alex, thank you for your detailed tutorial, its very well explained and I would appreciate if you can continue further with more possibility that Mocha Hitfilm can do. I need your help to tell me how can I export video from Mocha to Hitfilm with several layers in video footage but located in varies timelines. What I meant to say, in the above tutorial you have used two Layers in the same timeline, but what if there are two different timelines..... Apologies for my English.
If I wanted to do a shot where Im driving in a car and want the opening credits to appearing around corners and go by as I go by, how do I need to track that, the plane I am tracking goes off screen?
Hi could you cover how to track footage where there is no part of the footage is in frame at all times so you have to use multiple splines or something? Thanks
Wow! Thanks for this tutorial. I am currently using HitFilm Express that I got during the giveaway but I am thinking about upgrading to Ultimate. The trial is giving me a good idea if I should invest in the upgrade. It looks like if offers a lot of powerful features that I could use. Any deals or coupons going on currently?
Hi AKProFilms - thanks for your kind words about the software. Unfortunately you just missed our latest upgrade promotion which ended in the last few days. If you are sure to subscribe to our newsletter then you'll be the first to hear about any new deals going on. Thanks!
Can you please tell me more about mocha HITFILM. I got mocha for work and I don't know if I should buy hitfilm. Is mocha hitfilm included in hitfilm? Please answer fast, fefe
I've done some effects on a video (laser shots etc) and I wanted to add bullet holes on the wall. I then realised that the bullet holes moved as the camera moved. Planar tracking will solve the issue but my question is which video do I import into mocha? The original unedited version? Or should I export my edited video (one with the effects etc) then import that into mocha?
So if I solved my camera in a shot, brought it back into hitfilm, then put a mask on the shot, would the mask stay in place relative to the scene and would the mask points stay in place relative to the scene?
STACHEFILMSTV it depends slightly on your approach. Generally, the mask would be a separate track in mocha, independent of the camera solve. The camera solve is useful for compositing 3D elements, but a mask can usually be a 2D element.
Sorry guys, but I can't find the "Camera Solve" tab in Mocha AE CC 2015. I've tried to find it in "View" to activate it but no success. Is it not an available feature for this version? Thanks a lot.
Pedro Ramos Hi Pedro, the version of mocha included in AE isn't as fully functional as the one included in HitFilm, and so doesn't include the "camera solve". If you'd like to be able to use camera solve, you'll need to either purchase HitFilm or Mocha Pro. Sorry about that.
now after I bring in my video layer, the tracking markers are there and move with the track accordingly but when I drop in an overlay like an explosion , it doesn't stick to the track.
When i import my footage into mocha, i just get a white screen. I filled in the fields correctly (i think) and my project is a .avi so i don't know what's wrong. ):
I had a question. I have been trying to import mp4, mov, iPhone captures, into mocha on my windows computer but whenever I try to start a new project and import the movie it says that it's unsupported or corrupt. What do I need to do to import these movies?
Are you trying to import a file into mocha (Imagineer) or mocha HitFilm? HitFilm 2 Ultimate does support both .mp4 and .mov files so they shouldn't be appearing unsupported. Can you send us a support ticket so that we can explore this issue in more detail? www.hitfilm.com/questions/submit
Heeeeelp please !!!!! ( sorry for my english , I'm not so good ) When I want to export the scene in mocha Hitfilm nothing happens !!!!( i only got 2 Frames : Black and White ) What should I do now ??? Can anyone help me ???
For some reason is my Hitfilm and mocha super slow and lagy.. I've the video in mocha ob 1:4 and its still lagging like crazy. Not sure whats the reason. (i7 4790k, GTX 980)
BigDaz If you're referring to working with layers in HitFilm, this tutorial should help clarify the difference between ordering 2D and 3D layers: ruclips.net/video/thXDj_sYZtc/видео.html Mocha is a little different in the way that it approaches layers on the timeline. Let us know if you were referring to mocha and we'll go into more detail.
BigDaz The layer order in mocha is used to determine which layers are 'in front' of others. So if you're trying to track a computer screen, for example, and somebody waves their hand in front of it during the track, you'd want to have two track layers: one for the screen, one for the hand. As long as the hand track layer is ABOVE the screen, mocha will understand what's happening when the hand moves in front. This avoids foreground objects interrupting/confusing a track.
The method for solving that type of shot will depend on the type of camera move involved, pan or parallax, but I will be covering both types specifically in future tutorials, yes.
this is the first time I tried to use mocha hitfilm as I was following your tutorial I start tracking everything look good the camera was set to auto when i click on solve it says ( the auto solver did not calculate accurate solution ,please try selecting more layers or using deferent camera solver ) So is this means did not track properly or could be something else
Try selecting Large Parallax Change instead of Auto, and make sure you have all of the splines selected in the Layer panel. If that doesn't work, you might need to go through the tracking process again. - Javert
problem with Mocha Hitfilm: I'v got my clip in Mocha and have two good spines drwn on the object that I want to track. I'v adjusted the settings to match the motion in the clip. But the track buttons are dark (I cant click them), I dont see what the problem is. Help anyone?
Hi Nikolas - we might be able to help you better if you could send us a support ticket with the project attached so that we can see how everything has been set up and exactly what might be going wrong: www.hitfilm.com/questions/submit. Thanks.
I've worked with this for the past 7 hours and can't get it to work. I keep getting errors while tracking. I would really love this to work and could put it to great use, but there doesn't seem to be any way of that happening. I'll be looking for a refund.
Did this whole tutorial step by step, tracking data came out at 86% with 3 different tracking points. Loaded the composite into hitfilm 4 pro, slapped on my green screened object(with all greenscreen stuff done, matte/color spill etc), object moves with original footage and won't stay in place in 3d space. Tracking didn't do anything for the object. Followed the tutorial step by step 100%, and object NEVER stays in place. Please give me a tutorial that actually works.
shehab suleiman Those are all supported formats so should work in mocha, as you say. Because the problem is ultimately with mocha, we would recommend contacting the team at Imagineer and asking them to solve the problem. You can do that here: www.imagineersystems.com/support/contact-support/ Sorry we can't be of more help.

apollo Thanks for taking the time to tell us you found the tutorial helpful! We really appreciate it.
Clear,professional instruction.
Well planned workflow for video.
HitFilm has its own 2D optical flow tracker. You can also bring in 3D camera data from the likes of Boujou, SynthEyes, PFTrack etc.
*i`m Glad that i found Hit-film Pro,It have all the potential & featuring built-in awesome program its better than Vegas & AE*
I get so excited every time a new video uploads!

We'd recommend contacting Imagineer's support team. You can find their contact details over on the Imagineer Systems website.

- Great software!
I did follow your tutorial, then when I go back to hit film to import the composite shot it opens with the blue plane not sure why,
Is HitFilm 2 Express able to do this, too? Or just the Ultimate version?
Hello, I was wondering along with the HitFilm 2 tutorials that you could make a bit of HitFilm 1 ones as many do still only have it :)
When exporting it says "No 3D solution ready, please solve the scene first" how can I fix this...
Wow! Thanks for this tutorial. I am currently using HitFilm Express that I got during the giveaway but I am thinking about upgrading to Ultimate. another great tutorial. thanks!
Update is really needed.
are you working on any tutorials on 3d animation?
Hells yeah.
What file formats does mocha accept? I can't import my original M2T file, and the MP4 render I brought in does not play.
I was just wondering what computer setup do you use?

You should track the original shot. The additional VFX you've added in post will only complicate the track.
Are we able to do the same in Hit-Film Express 3?
I had the same problem. Try to use mp4 format and put the movie file in other storage unite (not c:\), for example a pen... For me it worked...
Nice tutorial! Thanx :)

Can you please make the same tutorial, but with text. It would be very helpful
how do you move the grid that way!?!?!
Just excellent!!!
Should the scene be in a " .MOV " format ???
mocha is Ultimate only.
Chuck Duncan Dude you have to download the latest QuickTime player @ apple.
You're welcome
My setup is a 2.8 GHz quad-core i5, with 8 GB RAM and a Radeon HD 5770 gpu.

Need help: Can't seem to find Camera Solve on Mocha AE CC. Do they still have it?
I don't think mocha AE does 3D camera solves. This tutorial is about mocha HitFilm, which is a different build of mocha, with a different feature set.
