Thanks for your kind words :) We are working hard on HitFilm for the Mac at the moment and we've got a large list of tutorial suggestions, but rest assured 'terminator face effects' has been added.
The camera solve quality won't be affected by reinstalling or your system requirements. We've found that the tracking surface affects the camera solve quite drastically. After tracking with the spline, you need to set up the tracking surface using the blue control handles. We'll be covering this in the next tutorial. You can find tutorials on this over on the Imagineer website. Mocha is a curious beast but absolutely worth persevering with!
Sorry for the delay in reply - hope you're still enjoying the 3D model side of HitFilm! Be sure to let us know of any projects or production you have been working on using HitFilm.
If having a Mac computer is what's stopping you, bear in mind that we are looking to release HitFilm for Mac in November. Thanks for watching the tutorials in the meantime!
mocha HitFilm (the bundled version) can only export to HitFilm. The full version of mocha Pro is quite different, so get in touch with Imagineer. I'm sure they'll be able to answer any questions you have.
"mocha Pro" can export to FBX. FBX is a common format supported by Maya, Cinema 4D and other 3D applications. mocha HitFilm is limited to export only to HitFilm.
That example was created using 3D models, rendered and composited in HitFilm. Ask your After Effects friends to do that without using any plug-ins. :P There's also the Extrude effect, of course, which you can use on actual text in-program, then composite into a 3D scene, with textured surface. You can also add parallax to 3D text which can yield interesting results. We'll see if we can do more tutorials on this specific area soon.
Brilliant Tutorial! I think this is the first time I was really able to wrap my head around the process. It helped a lot that you guys explained it from the software's "perspective." Focusing on the tool instead of the user allowed for tremendous insight into inner workings of the process-- which we can't see because it's essentially algorithms and code wrapped in an interface. Very useful indeed. Thank you for this. More please. :)
Ha :) yep! Hey, cant wait for the tutorial Axel was talking about at the end of the video, importing the mocha tracked stuff into hitfilm and working with it. Should be awesome, just starting to get into the 3d model side of hitfilm, absolutely fantastic! one of the many definitive advantages over element 3d, is that the textures automatically map themselves! omg its such a time saver! with a complex model in after effects it take so long to map it all :( thanks :)
Also, I've followed basically these principles when trying to track most shots for quite some time now; as I have quite a decent understanding of the general concept. However, whenever I move to camera solve, even when the spline looks to be locked on perfectly, it'll give a result of anything from 0-30%, which obviously is unusable. I'm wondering, since I have a very old computer, is there a minimum software requirement for Mocha to actually run?
Can you please do a tutorial on some kind of terminator face effects I would like to do a short with that kinda effect thanks I've learned a lot and love the software keep up the great work
oh interesting - so mochahitfilm will send the solved camera and data to hitfilm but no way to get that data out to 3rd party apps? thanks much for the info and clarification.
Help I can't figure out how to move into Mocha an into an out of Hitfilmpro 3 software I'm kind of confused. I also see other tutorials that seem different than your video. PLEASE HELP!
HitFilm Thanks for the information it takes me a while to catch onto the newer menu. I look forward to seeing more Mocha for Hitfilmpro 3 soonest. Please let me know when their available?
After i track two/three planes and export the camera data (99%) and then when i import it into hitfilm the camera moves all over the place and Nothing gets tracked properly. Any help?
What was the result of the support ticket? I was having the same problem, then I managed to figure it out, but not sure what actually happened to make it work.
Question is the remove module only available in Mocha Pro only as a stand alone software or is it in Hitpro 3 which is the upgraded version of Hitfilm Ultimate 2. I'm new to Hitpro 3 so I'm still learning how to use the software. If its not available how do I upgrade my Mocha in Hitpro 3 please advise?
mocha 4.0 is included in HitFilm 3 Pro. If you already have HitFilm 3 Pro, select '+new' in the toolbox window on the left of the interface and select 'solve with mocha HitFilm' to see how mocha works.
Is it possible to insert a green screen in a shot in order to insert a 3d object that an actor can walk in front of? For example...I shot a seen with an actor walks thru the frame. I want to insert a CG guy standing still in the background with the first actor walking in front of him. the camera is moving along with the first actor...so will have to be tracked.
Can we use HitFilm and Mocha to create Iron Man style holograms? I don't mean the HUD in the suit, I mean the huge cool holograms in his room. Maybe a future tutorial? Hm? Thanks. Alright, bye
mocha HitFilm is only available in HitFilm 2 Ultimate. Sorry about that. Try out the demo if you'd like to experiment with mocha: www.hitfilm.com/ultimate/demo
★Hitfilm/Mocha dream: if you could show us how to do the 3D w/texture TEXT like the example at 0:31, I will go out to the street with a sign advertising Hitfilm! I really, really want to learn how to do that example at 0:31 of your video. I can't stand it when my After Effects friends tell me Hitfilm sucks because I can't make 3D text with textures like that! Please tell me if that is even yet possible. I've tried different ways and it does not achieve that result! Please! (I'm on my knees)
Long Text .. oh nvm im a noob XD i was on the effect tab u know when u make a new like pannle i didnt d that XD like where u made the example tab on vid btw is there a way i have a 3d car object im trying to u know like put 3d car into live video im total noob so i want to know how to do that if u know what i kinda mean like i want to put 3d car or any object into a live video and like i know u prob have to do some tracking to do that so have u made tutorial on that? and yes using hit film 2 Ulti nvm i know how to get tracker now
Vladamir, if you go to the edit and effects panel, and click on the dropdown button 'New' (next to your import button) it gives you the option "Camera solve with Mocha HitFilm". This is only available in HitFilm 2 Ultimate of course.
Thanks for your kind words :) We are working hard on HitFilm for the Mac at the moment and we've got a large list of tutorial suggestions, but rest assured 'terminator face effects' has been added.
Axel, this is the best most helpful explanation of mocha tracking placement I have seen, and I've seen many
The full version of mocha pro gives you lots of options, but mocha HitFilm is designed more specifically to export HitFilm composite shots.
The camera solve quality won't be affected by reinstalling or your system requirements.

Thanks! mocha does work differently to point-based trackers and this initial understanding is crucial.

Very nice tutorial and explanation of planar tracking.
Very helpful tutorial!! Best phrase ever “and if we lie to mocha we can potentially cause confusion.” Haha!
Glad you found it useful!

After i track two/three planes and export the camera data (99%) and then when i import it into hitfilm the camera moves all over the place and Nothing gets tracked properly. Any help?
Could you send us a support ticket? hitfilm.com/questions/submit That way, we'll be able to look at your project and see what's going wrong.
