Great tutorial! And HitFilm users be aware that the full Mocha Pro plug-in with advanced object removal and stabilization can run inside HitFilm. It is a $295 option available on Boris FX. Make sure to install the OFX version. borisfx.com/products/mocha-pro/
THANK YOU for posting this! It's the most useful Mocha Tutorial anyone has done, on the channel! Thanks you!!!!!
I didn't understand mocha before this at all! Thank you so much my saver!!
Happy to help!
- Tom
Great job guys. I wish I had this tutorial when I first started using this.
Amazing tutorial, thanks a lot for all the ressources you are providing. I recently picked up HitFilm Pro, and it's a pleasure to see what you can do with the software. I have so much to discover, try, and learn but thanks to your clear guides, this process will be much quicker !
Again thank you and have a nice day ! :)
That's great to hear, thanks for letting us know!
- Javert
Yeah I'm about to watch more of the Mocha Hitfilm stuff. I just picked it up as an express add on and want to really learn how to use it. It seems like Mocha is quite the advanced tracker.
Great video! Mocha is the best!
Very nice! Thank you for this.
Good job guys👍🏻
Excellent tutorial, very clear and useful to begin with Mocha. And +1 for Mad Max Fury Road ;-)
very helpful thank you
this seems very useful
Just need this!
going to use this in upcoming fan film
Thank you
Nice overview! I haven't used the current version of Mocha Hitfilm (I use the 2017 Mocha Pro), so I have to ask if the Insert menu got taken out if the Basics interface? Being able to add a large checkerboard or mocha logo has always been better for my eyes to check a track than the thin pink grid.
Oddly I've never actually used tracking markers for a phone replacement. I've tended to have the phone in selfie mode, tracked the bezel, and layered my replacement screen in at about 95% opacity. The selfie feed bleeding through looks like reflection.
You've got good information trying to make itself heard despite unnecessary and overly loud background music. It's like watching a tutorial in an elevator...
how do you manage to get the white box around the second circle and keep both circles in the same layer?
Particle simulation tutorials please? Smoke & fluid sims ifpossible
I’m using Hitfilm 2017 Pro and whenever I try to import my mocha tracking data it says the file is not supported.
Am I doing something wrong?
Will you release a new version of Hitfilm pro later this year? :-)
So is the hitfilm mocha basically the same as the after effects mocha?
Can't wait until I can have that last image at 6:07 on my screen without using VFX! :)
Us too!

I recently purchased Hitfilm Pro, but I can't seem to find the folder under the effects panel. Unless I'm missing something.

I need to get better at this
A grand intro to Mocha in the new HitFilm release! I'm wondering if Mocha can be used to track a 3D object to tack it to something in the video, ie. Put a CG helmet on an actor's face so you don't have to build a practical one?
Kind of. There's an old (Mocha 3) webinar (don't remember the title) that covers things, and there's an old three part Hitfilm 2 tutorial that gets on this topic (creating the fireball).
In brief, you have to solve your camera first, then go back and track the object. That said, Mocha's object tracks aren't true 3D - they're 2D with a scale parameter. In many cases you can totally track a 3D object onto a face or other moving element, but, sometimes it just won't quite look right. It depends on how much Z motion (towards/away camera) you have. If/when I find the relevant webinar I'll come back with the link. The webinar tracks a 3D headset onto a face in Cinema 4D, but you should be able to "translate" this to Hitfilm.
@@HitfilmUniversity Thanks for the info - that really clarifies things.
@@fourscorpio Glad to help! :)

TIP: Slow down, and kill the music.
Feel like you've already done a lot of these tutoorials before.
They have done mocha tutorials before, but, if you look at the growth of the userbase, it took six years to get to one million users, and another two years, four months to hit 4.5 million users, so there's a bit of re-covering old ground so 2/3 of the users aren't searching back through a thousand videos over 8 years to find mocha tuts. :)
Where do I find mocha?
If you're using HitFilm Pro or have purchased the add-on, in the Effects panel as Tom demonstrates. Otherwise, in the Mocha HitFilm pack: fxhome.com/store/hitfilm-express#mocha

Thank you for the video. Well made.
But i think it's too much work, i can't see the benefits instead a manual rotoscoping
If your clip is really long and you need it done quickly, you should probably use Mocha.
It will depend on the shot. In this case a single thumb for a half second isn't bad. Get into more complex shots and mocha makes your life easier. When masking manually in Hitfilm the mask is static and doesn't attempt to follow along. In Mocha the spline shape attempts to follow the moving shape, which really helps a lot.
This is an overview video, so can't cover all work cases. Still, for something short and simple like this example, direct masking in Hitfilm is fine. I did a short film with phone replacements where during a ten second the camera trucked back and arced around the shot. This meant that my phone screens and roto masks were moving all over the frame... And THAT'S where Mocha saved me time. A later shot in the same film had a hand reaching in and tapping the screen of a phone on the ground. The hand covered part of the screen for three frames. That shot I hand masked in Hitfilm. It depends on the shot. The three frame masked easily. The 300+ frame with tons of movement benefited from mocha assist.
Yes. I'm talking about this shot. Both of you are right
By the way, i'm a hitfilm pro user and want to learn all th possible about this, thank you
Is this program free?
Mate, read the description. It takes like two seconds.
@@MentosCubing lol, it's a pun
I don't get it :/
Mocha is always crashing (((

Um...what?
2nd EEEEE
way way way way too fast. You gave 5 steps in under 3 seconds. I had to replay the part where you applied tracking data, create a plane, copy the data, open this, create that. Its ridiculous.
Yes I couldn't get this bit also! Other bits obvious, but these steps skipped over at light speed! Can't get it to work
