Nothing epitomises his commitment to the role more than meeting actual royalty in full Nuclear Man costume. His movie career was short but he got to work with Gene Hackman and meet the new King. What a ride
It was an absolute travesty and disgrace what sleazebag canon films did to Superman 4. Every interview I’ve ever read or seen shows Mark as the down to earth, sincere, and nice gentleman that he is in real life.
Glad to see he's happy with his career and family life, but I hope Mark remembers one very important thing about his too-brief acting stint: _The man has his own leitmotif, and it was composed by John Williams._ That's just awesome; he's in the same club as Darth Vader and Jaws. If John Williams wrote a theme for me, I'd play that shit every time I walked into a room. Mark, dude, if by chance you ever read this, know that I unironically salute you for holding such a rare honor.

Alexander Courage was no stranger to film scoring, and Williams is reported to have supplied the melody for Nuclear Man, Jeremy and even Lacy's Theme. Of course, Courage would be the one to orchestrate these themes. The set also mentions that Cannon hired an inexpensive orchestra to record the score that was unable to play ALL of the music. So the producers had to book a second orchestra- and recording studio in order to complete the music. I bet ole Yoram wasn't happy about that!
It must have been embarrassing because Mark was the only that attended the royals wearing his "Nuclear Man" costume, and has he said his suit was tight ( but, only loose and baggy around the privates)
@@guypeate3628 That is not what Mark was implying. When the film premiered he was in the best shape of his life. The question he was asked is if he still had the suit. Mark said he did not, and even if he did- it would not fit....and that was a good 20 years after the was released.

Nuclear man is my favourite Superman villain, he didn't even appear in the animated TV series or in Justice League, I also still can't get over that Gene Hackman (who played Lex Luthor) also voices Nuclear man in the 4th and final film. I liked Superman 4 at that time and still do today for what it was. Better than Superman 3's comedic tone and i thought the 4th was most serious Superman film since Reeve was behind the story. I like Mark Pillow's Nuclear Man villain. His costume was great and would've made a great villain in the comics and animated series/shows of today. If i saw Mark now, i wouldn't reckonize him probly,lol Looks different over the years. In this video seems hard to think he was the first before Doomsday that almost killed Superman. I understand why people hated the 4th film because i think it would've done better if some of the scenes were'nt cut from the final film cause i seen them all and thought if most were added back in, it might of been better. It had a lot of scenes cut out that made it confusing, and Lacy flying in spaces should have been explained better or dropped, but I think the fans were a little too harsh on it. The concept of the movie was great, and the special effects could have been better, but they can fix this, if they were interested. I’ve always said that if it was that bad, nobody would take the energy to constantly debate this.

Yes Superman 4 had its issues with the cuts and all that bull Cannon Group did but it had a charm to it, and I loved Nuclear Man. The look, the animalistic though not mindless nature of the character and that roar... just loved it. Fingers crossed that one day they come out with a remastered DvD version with all the cut scenes added in.

What a lovely man, glad to hear he is getting on well. Superman 4 was a disaster but that was not his fault in the slightest, in fact he was the saving grace or the movie.
Both he and Reeve were awesome in the movie. As cool as it is to bash IV it's III that I dislike big time. At least IV had felt like a Superman movie unlike III which was a Pryor flick that just happened to have Superman in it.
Good thing he left Hollywood after Superman IV: The Quest for Peace released, the movie flopped so bad that he decided not to continue doing future projects in the movie industry, it tells you that Hollywood seems to do things their way in order to please them, but not the actors themselves, that's why Hollywood sucks!
IV was the first of the Chris Reeve movies I ever saw. Despite it flopping at the box office, I thought it was great. But I was around 12 years old when I saw it on broadcast TV. I thought Nuclear Man was so evil in the movie. But it is so good to see him doing very well. And of the many interviews I have seen and read, he seems like the most lovely down to earth actors you'd want to shake hands and visit with. It's an absolute joy to see such a person doing well in life. Plus being a fellow Texan tops it off!

Though I enjoyed it, I remember thinking my theater left a reel or two off of the projector since there was no Nuclear Man or nightclub scenes. I was aware of them either from Starlog Superman IV magazine or the Scholastic book. The odd looking "s" shield in the opening credits was the first sign things weren't up to Superman standards, but the awful subway scene effects verified the step down.
Even tho Superman IV wasnt such a great film, I always thought Mark kinda got ripped off. He couldnt use his real voice and he went to premieres in full Nuclear Man costume. I always said he would've been a great replacement for Dolph Lundgren for that Masters of the Universe sequel that never got made. Supergirl was a fun action/adventure movie, but it didn't have the epic scale of the Reeve films. Casting and FX were spot on though, and it was charming.

There was a good idea behind this. Sadly, even great ideas don't look so great when they're not fully financed. Certain elements could've been refined as well. Richard Lester and the Salkind's ruined the series with their silliness. Donner's Superman II was immensely superior to the theatrical version and I'm happy the it was finally released for those who wanted to complete the two part film as it was meant to be.
I'm not so sure I agree with you on the superiority of Donners II. We never got to really see it. Donner cut isn't really better than the theatrical cut. Some of the best parts are the same in both- like the confrontation on the moon. Also, I like the Lester Niagara scene. One more thing-"would yo care to step outside?" is way cooler than "ever heard of freedom of the press?" One question I have.... Donner was set to direct both films initially. The first film was supposed to be a cliffhanger, and Lois is dead. The filmmakers decided to use the ending from part II in the first film. They would need to come up with a new ending for the sequel since I am sure DOnner would not want to turn the Earth backwards again. So my question is this- how would Lois still be alive in the sequel if they don't go back in time in the original film? Shouldn't she still be dead in part II in Donner's version? It's a little fuzzy because I have seen interviews where Mankowitz said they swapped the ending, but that doesn't explain why Lois is clearly alive in all of the Donner scenes for Superman II.
It's one of the worst few cinematic disasters I've ever seen! Maybe there isn't a more crappy movie. After the Turkish movie called The Man Who Saved the World, of course. But Reeve got the most money from this movie at the time. God always sends some consolation before he deals the final blow. .This is his custom.All that's left of the nuclear man is a nuclear middle-aged beautiful man.
Superman IV is legit better than the shitheap that was Man of Steel. I thought Nuclear Man was so cool, and the film had a really good heart and message, but the budget cuts marred it. It's still good old fashioned fun though, even with the cheap FX. Something i can't say about the joyless Snyderverse.
I was glad to see an adult take on superheroes in Snyder's movies. There have been mature, adult and dark graphic novels in DC Comics. The Superman movies were looking quite dated by 1987, still using a Superman who could push the moon around. The Snyder movies give us a Superman who has real-world problems, not just problems with super-villains.

Pretty sure Supergirl had the budget. Just didn't have the writing. The flying and special effects are all pretty solid in that movie.

Donner's Superman II was immensely superior to the theatrical version and I'm happy the it was finally released for those who wanted to complete the two part film as it was meant to be.
I'm not so sure I agree with you on the superiority of Donners II. We never got to really see it. Donner cut isn't really better than the theatrical cut. Some of the best parts are the same in both- like the confrontation on the moon. Also, I like the Lester Niagara scene. One more thing-"would yo care to step outside?" is way cooler than "ever heard of freedom of the press?" One question I have.... Donner was set to direct both films initially. The first film was supposed to be a cliffhanger, and Lois is dead. The filmmakers decided to use the ending from part II in the first film. They would need to come up with a new ending for the sequel since I am sure DOnner would not want to turn the Earth backwards again. So my question is this- how would Lois still be alive in the sequel if they don't go back in time in the original film? Shouldn't she still be dead in part II in Donner's version? It's a little fuzzy because I have seen interviews where Mankowitz said they swapped the ending, but that doesn't explain why Lois is clearly alive in all of the Donner scenes for Superman II.

It's one of the worst few cinematic disasters I've ever seen! Maybe there isn't a more crappy movie. After the Turkish movie called The Man Who Saved the World, of course. But Reeve got the most money from this movie at the time. God always sends some consolation before he deals the final blow. .This is his custom.All that's left of the nuclear man is a nuclear middle-aged beautiful man.

Superman IV is legit better than the shitheap that was Man of Steel. I thought Nuclear Man was so cool, and the film had a really good heart and message, but the budget cuts marred it. It's still good old fashioned fun though, even with the cheap FX. Something i can't say about the joyless Snyderverse.
I was glad to see an adult take on superheroes in Snyder's movies. There have been mature, adult and dark graphic novels in DC Comics. The Superman movies were looking quite dated by 1987, still using a Superman who could push the moon around. The Snyder movies give us a Superman who has real-world problems, not just problems with super-villains.
