Watched each and every ball faced by Vishy. And the debate ends ...on difficult wickets Vishy was the best batsman not only In India but the world. He showed it in Melbourne in 82 as well.
Melbourne is in 1981
Absolute gem of a innings from the great GR Vishwanath. The real artist playing the quicks with such ease and no helmet..
Wow !!! What a match. GRV shows why he is the the little master. Hats off. Sylvester clark is really a devasting bowler !!! Thanks a million Sir ... One GRV fan to another !!!
Classic video Sir. I remember that last run which Kapil took off a bouncer to win the match
Thanks for uploading this video.I could able to see Vishwanath's strokes. What a player.
I watch it at chepauk when I was in 8 th std. 13 years old. Still remember
Jai ...
Thank you from bottom of heart for this vedio of GRV's one if finest innings.
When Gundappa Viswanath is at the crease we say cricket at it's best. A touch artist and a beauty to watch.
Indebted to you Sir. For such valuable videos
Gavaskar and vishwanath were India's backbone. Vishi's square cuts were world famous. That time it was observed that whenever vishwanathj hit 100, india has won the test. kapils 26 included 5 boundaries. that time i remember i was in 7 th standard we used to listen to a running commentary on transister. Everybody was very happy on that day.
Oh My God searching for this for quite long.. Was in the crowd as a 11 year old praying for Kapil and what a short beautiful knock Kapil played. Kalicharan and Gomes.. Oh Nostalgia
Very lucky that you witnessed not only the great batting of GRV but also one of the greatest Test wins of India against the mighty West Indians.
West Indies fielded a weak team key players didn't play still india could win only one test
Brilliant technique by GV
Dear Sir.
Thank you. You made my day. Seeing GRV sqare cutting was treat to eyes. What a batsman. And Kapil's pace. Even best of WI batsmen were uncomfortable before him. Sylvester Clark, at his best. Feel sorry for him, he was best of the WI lot. Cricket lovers missed him.
Annavra photo👌👌👌👌👌👌

Excellent, thanks for sharing such an antique video!!
Till now i never seen such quick square cut wow that shows y he is great
Vishwanath was legend
Love you jai ji for your amazing cricket vedios
These are those days, when most of the west indies players were with the contract of World series. So you see Clark, Phillipe and Holder as frontline bowlers.
He is always man of crisis. I'm a fan of him. I bunked the class and go on hearing the radio commentary at RC college compound in 1969 when he made his test debut against Australia at Kanpur in the second innings.
Another Brilliant Upload keep it up
I had watched the Bangalore test of the same series in which Marshal made his debut.Gavaskar was out first ball caught by shivnarine at Gully of Clarke, then vengsarkar and Gaekwad took india past 100,THANKS ONCE AGAIN mR.JAI SIR DOING A GREAAAT JOB
Remember of old era Thx sir jai galgali sahab
Thank you very much Sir for uploading this video.I am expecting from you to upload more videos of this series.
Vishy...Kapil...men in crisis.. won tough test matches for India..this match in Chennai ..and in 1982 Melbourne against Greg Chappel team
Thank u Sir.
Thanks👍
Thanks, this upload is a great historical document, good quality pictures too. Any more uploads from this series or V Pak 79-80 or V Aus 79-80 or Golden Jubilee Test 79-80 would be awesome.
My Appa used to take me to the matches at Chepauk during the Pongal holidays. We were there for this match (I was 10 years old) as well in his favorite E stand. When Venkat clean bowled Kallicharan on 98, the whole stadium rocked and I was crying cause I used to like Kallicharan very much. Vishy's innings was an instant classic... Chepauk has given me some beautiful memories growing up... miss those days!
Kannan, thanks for sharing your heartfelt memories. You should also consider blogging about this.
@@JaiGalagali Sir, we are all very grateful for you to have uploaded this video enabling us to relive our childhood memories. I did write a blog about watching cricket matches when I was growing up and about Chepauk stadium. I have to search for it. Your service to the current generation by uploading such treasures from the past is simply too good for words... thank you sir!
Wow what a match really sad we don’t see viswanath anywhere neither commentary nor coaching
Excellent footage Jai. I remember Sunny was Sylvester Clarke's bunny in that series. Clarke was unplayable at times! Malcom Marshall made his debut as a 19 year old lad in that series. Bacchus's 250 was a gem in that series!
Yes, but for a bunny to score 700+ runs in the series with 3 centuries...not bad...
would love to see more like this...
3:34 that killer bouncer from Kapil dev.... A revolution days in Indian cricket
Great retrieval by Galagali and rescue by Indian team without helmet
in this series I was Initiated to Cricket..when I was a small boy... thanks for uploading

SA return match to international cricket... 1991 in Kolkata
I was in 8th grade when this series was going on and instead of going on the school trip I went and saw 4 days of Bengaluru test. Gavaskar got out the very first ball and many of them had not even settled down in their seats. People who missed this thought Vengsarkar was opening with Gaekwad and only after looking at the score board they realized India was already 1 wicket down. Marshal made the debut but still he was far from the terror he would later become. Clarke and Phillips did well in English county playing for Surrey and Essex
Great sqaure cut late cut player
My friend who watched this match told, "when all other batsmen were beaten, it was amazing to see Vishy middling each and every ball from the word go". That really sets apart Vishy from others. When there Is a crisis, he will rise to the occasion.
Fantastic bowling by Norbert Philip and Sylvester Clarke. Was there as 10 yr old .. After this test Chepauk pitch was changed and became lifeless.
The present day's Indian batsmen should face such deadly bowlers without helmets.... Those days, Chennai pitch used to be bouncy....
None of the current Indian batsmen can play against such bowlers without helmet.
Today's players are Bollywood class cricketers......
At that time Chepauk pitch produces bouncy fast pitch and also helped spinners too... Vishwanath played 2 gem of an innings vs WI in 75 &
Vishy my cricket god
Unbelievable crowd
GR Viswanath my favourite batsman

@@JaiGalagali sir if you please upload ind vs eng 1976 test series i will be very thankful to you.

First comment👍
Seeing this video just for Dr. RAJKUMAR PHOTO IN THE BACKGROUND
Typical GRV innings. He would be at his very best when chips were down and the track helpful to bowlers. In such conditions he didn't need any time to settle, middle the ball from the very beginning and make batting on bowlers friendly wickets look like a cakewalk.

Tamil Nadu cm MGR... GREAT LEADER
Matinee idle not good leader.
சைலஜா சுவாசநேகர்
ராணி மேரிக் கல்லூரி புரவலர்
Good leader MGR
I am surprised at the attitude of BCCI. Why this classic genius batsman TIGER to cope fierce deadly bowlers without a helmet is neglected. He could be good coach for batting tips, could be head of Selecting committee and even hold different portfolios.
Why the boards don't know behaviour against GR Viswanath i am unable to understand.
Hope you will share your views. Regards 🙏
Vijay
Vishy was chairman of selection commitee for 5years ,I think from 96-2001.And yes he is a regular at KSCA and NCA for many years as humble as ever offering advice to youngsters.Sadly unlike Gavaskar ,Shastri and others who made it into public life on TV ,Vishy maintained a low profile after retirement from cricket and his job at SBI
The bcci rewarded his services with a 5crore payout ,I think and he was also on the ICC committee as a match referee. He recently celebrated his 70th birthday hosted by Sunil Gavaskar ,his brother in law.
Terrific square cuts and helicopter shot in fast bowling.
@@Oo-pl9zg The BCCI has always been apathetic to this batting great. There is not a single stand anywhere in this country named after him, when lesser mortals have been blessed with that honor. Moreover, they did not invite him for the 500th test celebration. So Vijay's peev is justified.
@@mahadevanrangarajan5031 entirely agree.I forgot that the BCCi did not invite him.But as I said ,Vishy was a simple, humble person who stayed in the back ground .And Yes the KSCA never honoured him with a stand or a gate named after him
Nor was he invited to be an administrator .
@@mahadevanrangarajan5031 you are right Sir. Forget about other places. In his home town Bangalore KSCA stadium at least they could have named a stand after him. In my opinion he was the first star Cricketer who had huge fan following like a film star. We in Bangalore loved him so much that he was next most popular person after Dr.Rajkumar.
Venkst Prashant googly ✊ master chandraseakar it's surprising in medium fast to do so n Vishwanath n Yespal sharma n more who they play for Country Nt like selfishly like Gavaskar such a egos formed y Mafatlaal group separated da states 👹👞🏃
