Not many people know that Kapil was the
1st man to take not only 200 but also 250 wickets in ODIs. From 1988 to 1994, he was the world's leading wicket taker in ODIs, ahead of Botham, Imran, Hadlee, Marshall etc.
Kapil is the only captain to take 9 wickets in an innings.
Only man to claim 400 wickets and score 5000 runs, also only man to claim 400 wickets and 4000 runs in Tests.
(Though Sobers is said to be the greatest all rounder, he managed only 235 wickets in 93 tests at a horrible strike rate of 87 and a poor avg of 34, Sobers also has no 10 wicket hauls and only 6 five wicket hauls.
If you think Kallis was the best, then he has only 292 wickets in a whopping 166 tests at a not so good strike rate of 69 and a poor avg of 32, also again he has no 10 wicket hauls and only 5 five wicket hauls)
World record 184 innings without getting run out.
He is the 1st man to hit 4 consecutive 6s in tests. (Now equalled by Afridi and De Villiers but not broken).
He is still in the list of top 10 wicket takers in tests.
Strike rate of 94 in tests, higher than Richards and Sehwag, 95 in ODI, higher than Richards.
Still youngest to 100 wickets and 1000 runs, 200 wickets and 2000 runs, 300 wickets and 3000 runs.
He is still the youngest man to take 300 Test wickets.
(Was also youngest to take 100, 200 and 400 but these 3 records stand broken now).
At the time of his retirement, he was the world's leading wicket taker in tests, and remained so for six years, until Walsh broke it in 2000.
Scored 500 runs and took 50 wickets in the same year twice (Pollock and Botham have also achieved this feat)
Has been holding the world record for the fastest 50 at Lord's in a Test Match off just 35 balls for 40 years now. (1982)
    INDIA Records:
Fastest century by an Indian in Tests in 74 balls. (Later equalled by Azhar but not broken).
2nd Fastest 50 by an Indian in tests in 30 balls. (Pant now fastest in 29 balls, record broken by just one ball)
2nd fastest to reach 100 wickets in 25 tests (Bumrah is now fastest in 24 tests, record broken by just one test)
Second fastest 50 by an Indian in ODI in 22 balls (Fastest by Agarkar in 21 balls, record broken by just one ball)
First Indian player to score an ODI century
First Indian bowler to take 5 wickets in ODIs
He is the 1st Indian to complete his maiden test century with a six. (Harbhajan is the only other Indian to do so)
(Myth: Kapil never bowled a no ball: This is wrong, he did bowl no balls.
In this video, Kapil himself says that he had bowled no balls. ruclips.net/video/Otolhum-xzA/видео.html

Mr Galagali, you are amazing!! While it is such an arduous task to collect all these videos of the by gone era, you are embellishing them with news papers clippings!! Where did you find those clippings? Great to see those reports - where in the absence of advanced printing technology we could hardly recognize a player in a photo but the scribes used to excel with their writing. A few memories - 1. This was the first ever 6 test series that India played. 2. Gavaskar's 4th hundred of the series, it ended his dream run of 10 hundreds in 15 tests. 3. Vengsakar made 157 N.O. in the third test of the series, bagged a pair of zeros in the 4th and and then made another hundred in the 5th test. 4. This WI team is a second string team with all key players opting for Kerry Packer and the Greenidge mentioned in this video is not Gordon Greenidge but Alwyn Greenidge and those 2 players are not related in any way.

This is a memorable test cricket. As usual Gavascar and Chouhan began the innings and Chouhan was out when the score was 71. Vengsarkar joined Gavascar and their partnership remained unbroken when they reached 361.
The match was drawn because of poor light
West Indies managed the draw with the score of 199 for 9 wickets.

See in the last 10-15 years or so, India in the field of cricket is a team to reckon with. Kohli, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Dravid, Laxman Ganguly, Tendulkar, Sehwag and many other wonderful cricketers have given the opposite team a hard time from time to time. But for me who belongs to the periods of Sandeep Patil, Gavaskar, Mahendra Amarnath, Srikant, Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrashekhar and later on Kapil, the rare joy of an elusive victory was far divine to those of later years. Kapil Dev was a deciding factor.

I remember. This was a rather weak west indies team when most players were barred due to packer series episode. And then they came back later much stronger.
Remember how India suffered against West Indies in tests in 1983 in WI?. Barring Mohinder no body crossed fifty runs. But India won the WC in a low scoring match that turned the cricketing world upside down. Bruised and hurt, West Indies toured India immediately and inflicted 7-0 white wash in one dayers and 3-0 drubbing in tests in India.
Golden days of cricket, those days!!

Chandra my childhood hero could have done more to our country after he faced humiliation in Pakistan from zahir Abbas. No doubt about zahir greatness but he was many times supported by Pakistani umpires as he was not given leg before .more over he knew that umpires wouldn't give him lbw .It proves when he is in foreign, his batting greatness was halved .Chandra was no different and was effective as he was earlier.why was he removed?you won't believe but I was dreaming Chandra's return and used to hate Narsingh Rao who had replaced Chandra.Thst much I liked Chandra.
In 1981 when England came to India
and after wankhede test three Indian players were removed,I was waiting for Chandra to return. That much I was and now mad for Chandra.I was terribly disappointed when I heard that three Indian players were removed by Ashok Malhotra, Pranab roy and Gopal sharma.

Guess the knee surgery did him a lot. Check footage of his bowling action during earlt part of his career. He looked damn quick with a bit different action
