Used to hear only the radio commentary in those days. We used to see the next days newspaper to see the photographs. Nice to see the video and recollect those memorable days !
I remember that the transmission or broadcast technique was not that advanced during those days and a test match was shown live in that city only where that was being played. I can recall that people were poor at that time and only very rich people could afford the television. So, when these test matches were played, the rich people used to make a small makeshift hall on the sides of roads which was covered with the help of tents from all sides. People used to assemble there and see these matches there on small television sets (51cm). And while the pictures were seen on TV set, they used to use Radio or Transistors for listening to the commentary at the same time as it gave minute details of the proceedings in comparison to TV.
A young Raju Bharatan commentating (24:31)...brought a smile to my face!! This man went on to become an autobiographer/historian of some repute...amazing!!
Besides those heart stopping cuts and unique mannerisms Vishy had that little skip for getting in the top of the shot pitched deliveries , to flick them bisecting the forward short leg and short square leg. The pic at 1.04was in my album for a long time. Thanks for the great upload Jai.
When Tony Greig batted after India's innings closed, the brothers in law Vishy and Sunny came up to lift Tony. They each grabbed a leg but couldn't get him off the ground. Tony laughed his head off throughout the antic. This spirit of camaraderie was ruined by the Aussies: Ian Chappell, Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thompson.
I remember as a young teenager opening the paper each day to read about this series -wishing I could see it. Thank you for uploading. What a great Indian side that was
I also remember this listening to radio that time. John lever was main bowler and Alen knot was wicket keeper. Gavaskar was very little before Tony Greg
I met Derek Randall here, in Perth, Western Australia, in 1980. He played a season of club cricket for North Perth. Randall regarded his time in India, as one of the highlights of his life and regaled us with several stories of his time there. That particular tour, included Pakistan, as well. You'll be interested to know that he really did not want to talk about Pakistan, at all. He seemed to very annoyed about his time there, but diplomatically, wouldn't say why. If someone mentioned Pakistan, Randall would change the subject. Conversely, he was keen to revisit India.
Mr.Jai...also record the sportsmanship of Jaisimha and Pataudi, wherein John snow was seen tying the shoe lace of Pataudi...and emperor Jaisimha seen with his shirt collar on...
The next series pommies came all prepared to tackle Chandra and Co. Grieg Changed his stance to play Chandra. Rest was history. 3-1 to Tony grieg and his boys. This series of 72/73 was a good series though. India had a decent team. With many all rounders
Camera work in those days was terrible! One wonders if there was a zoom facility in those days. You can't see players' or batsman's face in any of these footages.
Australia cricket team always play with 14 players 11 plus 3 empires I am saying because when I was watching w t c final between India and Australia third Empire given wrongly out to subhman gill you can see visual in slip when player took the catch his two fingers touched the ground it was not with gill it happend with gavaskar and Sachin also most unsporting Australian cricket team
As I watch.... I see one lady smoking. Even in those days and times! Also saw how fast Solkar was. By the time Vishy reaches other end after playing a stroke, Solkar is halfway down for second run!
People listened commentary on radio while watching the match. they smoked pipe and cigarettes and turned out dressed well. it was a different kind of game then when no helmets were used.

DEROGATORY COMMENTS ABOUT THE COVERAGE OR THE SHOTS PLAYED BY SOME VIEWERS SHOW HOW PAMPERED AND IGNORANT 'MODERN' GENERATION IS. FORTUNATELY THEY STILL SEEM TO BE IN A MINORITY.
Well, they did play later in 1974 and it was a complete whitewash for India... In one innings India was bowled out for a shameful 42. But let us also not forget that almost the szame Indian team won rubber in 1971 against WI and England on their turf.
This was one such moment. Gundappa would be always remained as underrated
Used to hear only the radio commentary in those days. We used to see the next days newspaper to see the photographs. Nice to see the video and recollect those memorable days !
I was 10 years old and saw the entire test . Brought back a flood of memories
Thanks for sharing

Very glad to see Vishy and others bat. Nice old times. Thanks Mr. Jayaraj Galagali
Great video. It says Vishwanath 18 4s and a six. One of the rare occasions where GRV hit a six.
Thanks jai for these memorable moments.
Truly used to be a gentleman’s game!👌
Thanks a ton Jaiji for all your videos. We are able to watch our heroes in action.

@hanajinks oops! I was auto mis-corrected. That should read Lillee, not Miller.
Very True 😮😢

Amazing how India's strike bowlers were the Spinners.

As I watch.... I see one lady smoking. Even in those days and times! Also saw how fast Solkar was. By the time Vishy reaches other end after playing a stroke, Solkar is halfway down for second run!
What a close in fielder.
Solkar was amazing... undoubtedly the best at forward short leg fielder of his time
6:35 Sharmila Tagore 😍 for Tiger Pat
Thank you. Upload ind vs eng 1976-77 test series.
Is it true that Vishy and sunny tried to lift Greg?
Days when cricket way played by cricketers
People listened commentary on radio while watching the match. they smoked pipe and cigarettes and turned out dressed well. it was a different kind of game then when no helmets were used.
Yes, those were beautiful days... cricket was not overdosed and was a game and not a business.
Jai to Galagali Jaigalagai
Test was relayed live
🙏🙏👏👏👍
Hi sir I think Tony greigh lifting Vishwanath happened during 1976 series with MCC

Where that sportsmanship has gone?
match was did cover by DD there are shots of DD team covering the proceeding
DD covered it for Newsreel which they showed before movies in theatres. Obviously there was no live telecast then.
Who's the commentator?
Was covered by Dooordarshan.
Prince Saleem batted like Yuvraj
Bill Lawrie team vs India please pos
Jhon lever had applied Greece was he punished..
That was in a later home series - 1976-77. Not officially punished, I think. But we are still talking about it. That's punishment enough.
Great video, but the commentator was a bit too sarcastic.
Now sure if you recognized him...he is Raju Bharatan...
DEROGATORY COMMENTS ABOUT THE COVERAGE OR THE SHOTS PLAYED BY SOME VIEWERS SHOW HOW PAMPERED AND IGNORANT 'MODERN' GENERATION IS. FORTUNATELY THEY STILL SEEM TO BE IN A MINORITY.
Ajit Wadekar no more.Very hard to believe.
If the same India team had to play on English pitches---the result will be opposite
Well, they did play later in 1974 and it was a complete whitewash for India... In one innings India was bowled out for a shameful 42. But let us also not forget that almost the szame Indian team won rubber in 1971 against WI and England on their turf.
THT TIM EXPECT GAVASKAR, ALL INDIAN CRICKETERS SHOTS ARE LIK GALLI CRICKET
I am in 8th STD
He is talking as if there is a comma after every word and yet it’s difficult to understand what is he saying
Tony Greg IMV was a racist. He has made racist comments on Indians as a commentator. His picking up Vishwanath and cuddling him is not even funny!
Whether it was Bhikardarshan or FD, both were totally trash and clueless coverage of cricket!!!
The editing of those times really defies all logic, invariably there will be a meaningless shot of the crowd just at the moment of dismissal!!!
