    God. This brings back some memories. A big day out was a day out to Dublin from Rosslare on the train back in the late 80s and 90s. I'm 41 now. Great memories of my poor oul father, god rest him. Thank you for sharing this video.

    Nice view of Wexford South station and signalbox. Plus the old Rosslare Harbour Mainland station (the train stops in the 'new' Rosslare Europort station). The track carried on to Rosslare Harbour Pier station. I can remember walking along the lineside between the Mainland and Pier stations, to catch the evening train from Rosslare Harbour Pier to Limerick. The driver of the Class 141 loco questioned WTF were we doing. So we explained that we were going to Limerick. He replied that his train stopped at Mainland, so we explained that we wanted to ride all the way from the Pier station !

    Used to stand with my grandfather on the Bridge at 1:21:50 when down in Wexford from Waterford visiting him. Used to walk down to watch the trains run past. Good days

    Most scenic line in Ireland. On that video it feels faster than it is.

      Yes Martin it is and that's the first cab run I did many years ago and sorry I didn't do all the lines in Ireland

    Nice to see Arklow station again in the days of semaphore. It was always my childhood holiday destination but from the Rosslare direction.

    Great video from a time when trains were trains. Who are the three fools who gave this video a thumbs down?

    I used to stand on the footbridge at Rosslare station and get blasted by the exhaust as the engine passed beneath almost 40 years ago!
    I loved the sound of those diesels powering up! As far as I can remember the engine number was 121 or was that the class? The cab was taller than the rest of the unit?

    My favourite line! To have a secondman's view is terrific. I love the sound. I've managed as far as Wexford. I want to go further after watching the video in full. That beats any commercially produced video. Thank you for posting it.

    Why
    is the bell ring in the cab constantly

    • @gerryconmy
      @gerryconmy  Год назад

      The bell ringing is the warning bell connects to the dead mans pedal. The driver must acknowledge the each time the bell rings by lifting his foot of the pedal otherwise the brakes will apply. This is a safety device fitted to all trains.

    Macmine junction, a large station and barely a trace of it left @ 1:09:19.

      Not to mention Inch, Camolin, Ferns and Kilrane. The old link from Macmine to New Ross is well overgrown though all of the civil engineering is still there. The station was literally in the middle of nowhere and had no reason to exist when the New Ross link closed.

    I assume there was a loop somewhere beyond the end of this video?

    • @gerryconmy
      @gerryconmy  5 лет назад

      Hi glad you enjoyed the video. No loop beyond the platform. The train pushed back to the loop and loco ran around and pushed the train back again to the platform. As the train is approaching the station you can see the loop.

    Thats a brilliant video. Enniscorthy has changed so much, no wagons on sidings anymore, no handball alley, no riverside, gladly the permanent way has improved dramatically. That section between Edermine, Macmine and Killurin was dreadful. I sat on many a ballast train along those sections. There's nothing like that sound of those GM's accelerating, music to my ears.
