  • At Dublin Heuston, we see a brand new 200 class take a train out of the station, releasing its locomotive which goes on shed. A train then is seen arriving. Another train arrives hauled by a brand new 200 class locomotive.
Brand new 200 class locomotive 214 leaves Portarlington which is then seen in some detail. Another train arrives from Dublin Heuston pulled by 083 bound for Galway.
Just outside of Athlone, we await the passing of a Dublin Heuston bound train hauled by 206 to pass before proceeding over the River Shannon bridge and then through the disused Athlone Midland Station. At Galway, on board the train, we leave the station. Next, we see a token exchange with a passing Dublin Heuston to Galway Train hauled by a 200 class locomotive.
Back at Dublin Connolly we see a train simmering in a bay platform and then see a train backing down. Another train enters the station and we see the previous train exuding masses of steam from its steam heating. One more arrival closes this sequence.
Back at Dublin Heuston, we see brand new 200 class locomotive 212 back on to its train.
At Limerick Station we see a general view of the activity just after the arrival of a train from Limerick Junction. 147 leaves the station and then 151 pushes some empty steam-heated stock into the station.
Back at Limerick Junction, a train from Dublin Heuston enters making a connection with the Limerick train in the bay platform. Back at Limerick, brand new doyen of the 200 class No. 201 stands awaiting departure time with a steam-heated train for Limerick Junction. We then travel on this train and see the locomotive running around at the bay platform and buffering up to carriage 3177.

A marvelous record of a bygone era showing the proud diesel locomotive age in Ireland and marvelous people skills in a truly evocative style. Thank you John Hewitt, you have done your country and our railway men and women of past generations, of which we can be proud, great service.

Thank you for your incredibly kind words! I'm really proud that you view my humble efforts so highly and that I was able to evoke that era in the 1990s with my videos. I only wish that I'd had better equipment back then!

Always loved the Limerick Ballybrophy train. One loco, one coach, one steam gen. What more do you want ?! Back in Blighty, it would be a rancid Class 153 !

I love traveling by train, but I'm a smoker, God be with the days even after you couldn't smoke, you could make your way to the back of the train find a window you could open to half way down smoke and not bother anyone. Move on to today your hermetically sealed in the carriages, surrounded by people umbilicaly connected to all sorts of noisy devices and if your really lucky a bunch of yahoos will get on with the contents of a small off license with them and proceed to get pissed and then cause trouble, but hay that,s okay.
