I like to watch the first 3 minutes. It really is mindblowing how many trains are coming into the station. This is a terminus, no through lines. Just wow.
Yes, that's our Waterloo -- and several of the other London termini are similar. I commuted to/from both Waterloo and Victoria for many years, so for me all of that was just an everyday occurrence, twice daily in fact.
24 platforms servicing the most of the Western / South Western services. Platforms 1-6 are usually the local running to Wimbledon, Guildford, Wokng. Platforms 7-16 cover the Portsmouth, Weymouth and Exeter services and 17 to 24 are Reading services. Not to mention, access to London Underground for Bakerloo, Northern, Jubilee and Waterloo & city lines. It also used to house the Eurostar (Channel Tunnel), before the High speed line was built to St Pancras.
Between the 2 stops at Waterloo and Clapham Junction I count 19 trains actively running a passenger service (of which a few at a standing). That is really astonishing.
Only 38:10 in and I can honestly say this is THE BEST upload I've seen yet of a train drivers cab view of his jounrney. The view pulling out of Waterloo looks fantastic. One's heart must be racing though with so many tracks in front you, doubled up with being surrounded by so many trains coming towards you, at a stationary position, or at the sides. So much trust has to go into the signals. Absolute top upload 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
@ The video is great however I was transfixed on the streaks on the window. I really did enjoy the video and while watching it had a wonderful idea while watching the signals and rail route pathways. A total computer nationally controlled system where a driver typing in the destination and hit's the throttle and off we go and we should be non stop with sometimes inches apart from trains crossing each others destination path?
Thanks , the skyline from Waterloo to Clapham junction has certainly changed since I lived in london in the early 80's. very nostalgic train trip for me, well at least to Weybridge.
Thank you for the video in 4k. Save for the smear in the middle of the window, it's an excellent show and a good run. Must say that the British railway system is o/s. So many good runs I've seen, like London Bridge to Brighton and back and Brighton to Bedford amongst others. Now this...... It is something to behold such heavy train traffic, moving at such high speeds. There's nothing like it no where else on this planet. Bravo.......

Fantastic journey. Well done SWT and Driver, this is my route to London. If we get some Snow later in the year that would be more Fantastic, if you can do Southampton Central to London Waterloo into the New Waterloo platforms, on a Snowy White Weather Day.
Thank you for this, sir. Back in the mid-80s I had a lengthy freelance contract at TVS in Southampton and this vid' brought back a few memories of that early Monday morning journey. I see the dreaded Northam level crossing is still there - four tracks wide with both docks and passenger traffic, it was so busy to gates (in those days) stayed shut for up to 20-minutes to let several trains go though. Not a bundle of fun when sitting in the back of a taxi, off to the hotel! Not far from there are / were the TVS Studios, on the banks of the mighty River Itchen, which had the uniqueness of having a rail line run through the car park. BR ran a train through once a year and there was a mad dash of staff to get the cars out. One year the annual train derailed and every one was covered in confusion. Man oh man, I could bore for England on this topic, so I'll stop-. I shall now sub.

Just before entering Woking (on the left) used to be the Railwaymans Orphanage, spent around 18 months there in the mid 1950s (55/56) when my Dad who worked on the tracks got hit (lost half a leg) in Nine Elms Yard......near Vauxhall Stn. He spent over a year in St Thomas's Hospital. I went on to work at Waterloo in 1961 in the Offices as a messenger, and later on in the Building Dept'.......ended up as a signalman on the railway.....Crystal Palace, Hayes (Kent) Leigham Junction, and ended my days at Twickenham West Junction Signal box.
Thank you so much, this video is great and it's nice to be given Station Names for those of us who do not know the Route, just the right amount of info, and I look forward to the rest of the trip.

Świetne wideo! Podobała się przejażdżka. Zawsze intrygowało mnie parę spraw... Każde Siemensy do pewnej prędkości wydają dziwne, oscylowate dźwięki.
This is great - as noted below the stuff on the window spoils it slightly, but it's still incredibly enjoyable! An HD cabride from Waterloo to Salisbury would also be excellent - there are videos, but quite old and not true HD.

Unfortunately SWR is unable to facilitate train cab ride filming at this time I’m afraid.
See if you can find the cab ride video from Portsmouth to Salibury, which is via Southampton. The service from Portsmouth is the Hourly service to Cardiff. 1988 Waterloo to Salisbury, ruclips.net/video/4TV6qMt63yI/видео.html
Excellent quality. One of the best cab ride videos I've seen. You were lucky there; that track circuit failure at 50:00 turned out to be due to defective track that meant that no trains were able to run later in the day, as I recall, trains had to be diverted (apart from one that was stranded in section and had to be abandoned.)

Interesting to hear the conversation between the driver and signaller, and the way the driver repeated the signaller's instructions "you are authorising me, [headcode] to pass this signal [signal number] at danger - but obey all other signals". No room for doubt! I bet many other train operating companies would have required the soundtrack to be muted at that point because they seem to be paranoid about any driver-signaller conversations being heard by The Public.
yes the window mark was a shame but beggars cant be choosers, it could av bin chuckin it down with rain. It was a lovely day and an interesting restfull journey . well done and thank you
Nice video! I was only going to watch 10 minutes, but it drew me into the whole thing. My laptop died yesterday at Southampton Airport, but I just plugged it in now and watched the last few minutes. My home station is Farnborough Main (31 mins in), and because the view is so different, I didn't see it coming!

Please, eat some biscuits, drink cup of tea and enjoy the video!
50:25 Not me nerding out over the conversation between the driver and the signaller. Really cool seeing a real-world example of the communication between them
First time I have ever seen anything like that happen. The promptness with which the driver phoned rather than waiting for a few minutes to see if it cleared suggests that he had already been briefed about the failure and had been told to follow this procedure.
My old homeward bound commute, Waterloo to Woking, 2005 to 2012. Loved the rest of the journey. Many thanks. I occasionally used to stand in the section between the units and look through window into the driver's position, fascinated by the controls.
Thank you so much for this video. I just started doing something with this line as well. Just as someone mentioned below, I would love to see the continuation to Weymouth.

Please can somebody explain the huge rectangular concrete slab / bridge over the lines at 4:16? On Google Earth, I can see that it's 107 metres long by 27 metres wide. A pair of lines crosses over the main line there, but why the need for the huge slab in addition to the curved viaduct?
This structure was built some 30 years ago to carry trains from Waterloo Station across the main South-Western tracks to connect with tracks leading from Victoria Station down to the Channel Tunnel, during the years before the new high-speed line into St Pancras Station was constructed. As you can see from Google Earth, if a "narrow" bridge had been built to carry these tracks, it would have needed a span of about 120 metres, which would have been very expensive and would have caused unacceptable disruption to trains while it was being installed. The structure you see is simpler and cheaper, and because the slab could be installed in many similar short sections, each one positioned overnight, its installation caused overall less disruption to traffic. The tracks and the structure now appear to be disused, although presumably they could be used again if and when needed.
@@theaccountant1295 Waterloo is busiest in terms of passenger numbers but I believe that Clapham Junction is busiest in terms of most trains (it includes half the trains from Victoria too). Of course some trains don't stop there.
I see the signaller gave permission for a danger signal to be passed, due to a track circuit failure. Hopefully Network Rail was notified of the failure and sent out a crew to fix it.
A crew was fixing it - the "Orange Army" guys @52:45 . Network rail did not need to be notified by then - they operate the signalling and it was them he was getting directions from them on the phone.
12:11 - In the early eighties, 'someone's father' used to play 'Cowboys and Indians' with us, he would make bamboo bows, then dip the arrows in petrol, light and shoot them over Platform 3 onto the island platform(!) I loved getting the train from that central platform at New Malden, very rare occurrence. @12:05 - we'd dangle legs over that Alric Avenue/Dukes Avenue bridge @12:05 at watch the trains thunder through. @12:32 - wall on the right is top of the Elm Road bridge - you could climb up via the level crossing, sit on the wall, and watch the sunrise. Never any trains that would pass as it was so early. New Malden the most special of these great stations. A distant life that cannot be returned to!

Waterloo uchodzi za jeden z najbardziej zatłoczonych dworców w Londynie. Obecnie trwają prace remontowe kilku peronów. Chodzi dokładnie o te stanowiska gdzie do 2007 roku wjeżdżały pociągi Eurostar z Paryża.
The work on the Eurostar terminals is to increase capacity into London Waterloo by 30%, this work will be completed by the end of next year for the operator (South Western Railway) to be able to have more services running into Waterloo. The Eurostar moved to St Pancras to largely decrease the journey time, as it has direct access to HS1, 65 miles straight down to the Channel Tunnel. Whereas with Waterloo, it had to use third rail; which slowed it down, in addition to this it had to go through a lot of rather congested areas which often resulted in late running. I hope this helps! :-)
South West train now gone replaced by South Western. I went to Southampton from Winchester and back every match days to watch my team Saints plays at St Mary's Stadium which is located next to Northham Junction from 2010 to 2014 when I moved to Hedge End from my late mother's home. Sadly, now fewest passengers only key workers on trains thanks to lockdown but soon more passengers will be on train as the lockdown now slowly easing.
And the Egyptian statues, pyramids were built with crude hammers, etc. They had stuff back then we know little about. Before the rails they built canals all over GB, I'm sure somebody came up with at the least, horse drawn implements, to get more done in shorter time.
At 8:47, the train passes Earlsfield station on the right (similar to U.S. railways) with the platform on the left of the train as opposed to the usual approach in this direction which is having the platform on the right. Is that usual?
Michael Gornish there is generally no consideration for where a passenger would expect the platfrom to be. The platform goes where it is most convenient when it was planned.
Only slow trains stop at Earlsfield and they use the pair of tracks to the left of ours. The platform position is therefore irrelevant for our fast train on the right hand pair of tracks. Aprt from that, there is no rule which side the platform would be on UK railways. Note that between Earlsfield an Wimbledon the up (London bound) slow track crosses via a bridge from the right hand side of our view. Seen from 9:30 onwards.

There's something very relaxing about your videos, I used to take the train all the time. Windsor, London, Chatham...Toronto... lol. Ontario Canada.
Best cab ride video of this route I have seen. Well done and thank you!
This is not my last cab ride! No worries!
Kind Regards
Fantastic journey. Well done SWT and Driver, this is my route to London. If we get some Snow later in the year that would be more Fantastic, if you can do Southampton Central to London Waterloo into the New Waterloo platforms, on a Snowy White Weather Day.
Think the new Waterloo International platforms are only served by the Putney routes.
Used to regularly do Waterloo-Esher. Great to see it from the cab - and then see the rest of the line also. Brilliant video. RIP Fly at around 45mins!

The fact that I’m a train fan the biggest train fan this is an amazing view of the class 444 SWR LW-SC
Great video! I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for uploading this!
Thank you so much for your comment buddy! I appreciate that!
Kind Regards
Thank you for that! Really appreciated ;)
Kind Regards
Don't worry mate. I'll put the rest of the trip soon!
Kind Regards
Very impressive video. Many thanks for making and sharing it.
You're welcome ;)
Thank you
my admiration for the signalmen who work Clapham junction. to see from the ground, this is truely daunting.
So many watching this used to live in the UK, goes to show. Enjoying/enjoyed this.
Indeed!
An excellent video, thank you for uploading it and sharing it on RUclips 🙂
You're welcome!
Kind Regards
Thank you for the video and thanks to the driver.
Lovely, a proper railway, with proper traction and no ugly catenary despoiling the infrastructure.
Coming out of London Waterloo .... That was really nice!
Indeed mate!
Kind Regards
Superb video listening to it with headphones on makes it even better.
Thanks for the video man, I love this soo much!
Not a problem! Kind Regards!
Świetne wideo! Podobała się przejażdżka. Zawsze intrygowało mnie parę spraw... Każde Siemensy do pewnej prędkości wydają dziwne, oscylowate dźwięki.
Pozdrawiam
This is great - as noted below the stuff on the window spoils it slightly, but it's still incredibly enjoyable! An HD cabride from Waterloo to Salisbury would also be excellent - there are videos, but quite old and not true HD.
Unfortunately SWR is unable to facilitate train cab ride filming at this time I’m afraid.
See if you can find the cab ride video from Portsmouth to Salibury, which is via Southampton. The service from Portsmouth is the Hourly service to Cardiff.

@ How about now?
Excellent quality. One of the best cab ride videos I've seen. You were lucky there; that track circuit failure at 50:00 turned out to be due to defective track that meant that no trains were able to run later in the day, as I recall, trains had to be diverted (apart from one that was stranded in section and had to be abandoned.)
Oh thank you buddy! Is that the best cab ride video you'have ever seen? How come that? btw the second part is here: ruclips.net/video/Dke0PakSKy8/видео.html&lc=Ugys6gAtuaqPRV39dul4AaABAg
Absolute thanks-spankingly British journey!!
Wow! The first 10 minutes of this Video are outstanding indeed!
I know, so busy!
I like to watch these videos while playing either classical music in the background, or hard Rock! Strange how they all fit together.
I was so excited to see how it would end!
You need to wait for the rest of that train journey and final station in Weymouth!
Kind Regards
Thank you very much! I adore railways but I'm from Russia and it's very interesting for me to see railways in Great Britain.
yes the window mark was a shame but beggars cant be choosers, it could av bin chuckin it down with rain. It was a lovely day and an interesting restfull journey . well done and thank you
A great video, the rest of the journey would be great. Thanks
No worries mate! Kind Regards
Many thanks for sharing this. I very much appreciate it, also the (continuation) journey from S'oton to Weymouth, where I live.
So much details... great video!
Thanks mate ; )
Kind Regards
Ho ho panie tego sie niespodziwalem...dzieki za film no i i przypomina sie Train Simulator
Nie ma za co! Jak znajdę czas to wrzucę następną część. Jest co oglądać (tak myślę).
Pozdro!
Great to see walton and weybridge go through and woking
Amazing! Very good video! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much!
Kind Regards
50:25 Not me nerding out over the conversation between the driver and the signaller. Really cool seeing a real-world example of the communication between them
I like it too! Thanks! Kind Regards!
Amo de paixão esse tipo de vdeo. Obgd amigo pela postagem gratidão 👍
Salutări din România Dragi Prieteni din England 🙋♂️🙋♂️🇷🇴🇬🇧
Thankyou so much for posting!! My dream was to be a train driver but poor health has kind of ruined it :-(
Aw, I hope you're right! You're welcome!
Are you currently working at the railways?
Koleją z Mateuszem no I’m working on the buses but I’m currently on dialysis so am in no fit state to go on the railways sadly
Thank you so much for this video. I just started doing something with this line as well. Just as someone mentioned below, I would love to see the continuation to Weymouth.
There is the continuation to Weymouth mate :)

Great ride. Many thanks.

@Hello Brian, How are you doing?
my local line. Thanks for doing this
You're welcome mate ;)
Kind Regards
@Hello Antony, How are you doing?
Based on the opening of this video, they need to build CrossRail 2 ASAP!
An excellent journey I do many times. Thanks for the video though its a shame the train didnt rush through Woking on that occasion! LOL
So many times taken this route. Thank you for the video :)
You're welcome mate, you can watch the second part of this journey, I mean from Southampton Central to Weymouth ; )
Kind Regards
Thank you
Koleją z Mateuszem for a nice ride!
No problem at all!
34 active trains in first 11 minutes amazing
That's because most of those trains came through Clapham Junction, which I believe, is still the busiest station/junction in the world.
@@datboi04 since its Europe everything else doesn't matter.
@@theaccountant1295 Waterloo is busiest in terms of passenger numbers but I believe that Clapham Junction is busiest in terms of most trains (it includes half the trains from Victoria too). Of course some trains don't stop there.
Fantastic journey! And I do not mind the smear in the middle of the window. That`s how drivers view is like...
Oh thank you mate!
Kind Regards
I think a driver would move his head a bit. The smear was exactly on the level straight line ahead, the perspective vanishing point.
smashing journey again thanks
Thank you!
@Hello SMILEVIDEOTRAINS, How are you doing?
I see the signaller gave permission for a danger signal to be passed, due to a track circuit failure. Hopefully Network Rail was notified of the failure and sent out a crew to fix it.
That was probably the rep[air crew the other side of the tunnel by the junction box with the door open.
Off course Network Rail new about it. It was one of their signallers that gave the authority to pass the signal at danger.
You can see the crew otherwise of the tunnel at the lineside cabinet.
A crew was fixing it - the "Orange Army" guys @52:45 . Network rail did not need to be notified by then - they operate the signalling and it was them he was getting directions from them on the phone.
Enjoyed this, thank you
I love you London , and i miiss you too, i hope before die to be there again...
Fab video there. Really enjoyable.
This is where DTG got a lot of the info for the Waterloo to Portsmouth route i assume, haha
Thoroughly enjoyed that thank you
12:11 - In the early eighties, 'someone's father' used to play 'Cowboys and Indians' with us, he would make bamboo bows, then dip the arrows in petrol, light and shoot them over Platform 3 onto the island platform(!) I loved getting the train from that central platform at New Malden, very rare occurrence.
Great Video, Thank you!
You're welcome mate ;)
Kind Regards
Excellent handling of the faulty red signal at 50:16 by the driver.
I'm amazed by the amount of rail and crossovers left in the four foot is it scrap or for reuse brilliant video,
Britain’s summer looks so nice
@inside outside upside downside Don't lie.
Ja mieszkam w Trowbridge (Wessex Main Line). Najbliższa stacja węzłowa to Westbury. Główny operator to GWR, jeździ też SWT z Bristolu do Waterloo .
You mean stagecoach no longer has ownership of SWT?
It's nice not to have to worry about stupid drivers at grade crossings. U.S. should get rid of them.
We do still have highway crossings here, though they are continually slowly being removed

Incredible how the Victorians levelled that much of the Earth's surface with hand tools.
THE ROMANS DID A BIT N ALL
and you believe the hand tools bullshit story :D
@@weedylock Not many steam excavators around in the 1830s - so yes, hand tools it was.
And the Egyptian statues, pyramids were built with crude hammers, etc. They had stuff back then we know little about. Before the rails they built canals all over GB, I'm sure somebody came up with at the least, horse drawn implements, to get more done in shorter time.
I remember crawling out through Vauxhall to Clapham Junction back in 1979. I take it BR/Railtrack/NR upgraded the substations?
Świetny film!
Dzięki ;) Pozdrawiam
Również pozdrawiam i zapraszam na mój kanał.
