In response to DMs I have been receiving, I've created a small preset pack and LUT.
    Presets: joonrho.com/shop/p/sony-a6700-lr-preset-pack-1
These are presets that I have developed over the years and used extensively for past photos.
    LUT: joonrho.com/shop/p/base-lut-sony-s-log3
This is created from a colour-managed workflow for S-Log3 and should bring you to a strong starting point for grading.
It would be great if you could support me by purchasing, but my goal is not to gate-keep so if it is cost-prohibitive please feel free to reach out to me on Instagram: instagram.com/joonrho/
    Thank you!
    J

I'm an international traveler and small/lightweight are the primary reasons for my camera/lens choices. There are many great cameras out there, but most are larger bodies with longer and heavier lenses. Sony's emount system has resulted in great lenses by other companies such as Sigma. Someone said recently that this camera body's technology will be relevant for years to come, and I agree.
What a unique and helpful contribution to our learning platform for the Sony a6700! I loved your organization in the video around shooting each day, and describing what you learned.

The Sony 16-55 2.8 is def worth it since it sort of dips in the wide angle territory. Yes the lens is heavy, but in effect you get images that are sharp across the frame even in the corners. To most people just starting out tho, the sigma 18-50 2.8 is enough.

  • @simply-the-max

The Sony stabilization is only usable for photo mode. As long as you don't move it's fine for video, for everything else you will need a gimbal. I had a Panasonic GH5 once and it was so much better than any of my Sonys.

LONG time Fuji user and early adopter here. Love my XT5 and curious about the Nikon, but considering a leap to Sony (A6700). I’ve been shooting since the 90’s. Shot lots of film back in the day. I’ve shot every camera system from Canon to Nikon, Fuji, Olympus and beyond. Never tried Sony (other than my little ZV1 which is awesome). Curious about an A6700 or something really small and ergonomic. I do wear glasses so I need an EVF. Love mirrorless.
I shoot headshots and I make a living at it. Currently shooting XT5’s but the autofocus is broken. If they don’t fix by new year I’m done.
What camera system would you choose for full time portraiture? I have a weak back and shoulder and I’m 53 so I’m looking to go as light, ergonomic and fast as possible. Lighter the better. I shoot 75% natural light & 25% in a studio. Occasionally I shoot a family session, usually entirely with my X100V’s.
I’m looking to change it up, but stay light and fast. I don’t need a tank I need a feather.
    I would love your thoughts!

    • @boywithacamera
      @boywithacamera  13 дней назад +1

Light as possible with good autofocus, the Sony A7C series (for better ISO performance in natural light) or the a6700 would be my guess! X100V's for family sessions sounds like a treat--if you're making those work I'm sure you'll get along fine with one of the smaller Sony bodies. One thing to note is that I'm not sure how well Sony plays with Godox flashes--some friends have zero issues, I had a few, so not sure if that will impact your autofocus experience if you're using Godox.
Where the compact Sony cameras fall short is the EVF unfortunately so you may need to weigh its importance to you! Fuji's hard to beat here in the well-rounded experience for photography and weight. I am curious about your problems with the autofocus given that your main usage is portraiture. Is it an issue with eye tracking?
If you're able to compromise a bit on the weight, you may find the Nikon ZF or Z6iii to be good options, but I don't have much experience with them. The Sony A7 series might actually be your best bet as they'll offer a better EVF experience than the compact bodies, but have the same autofocus capabilities and remaining relatively lightweight. The Canon R6ii is an extremely solid contender as well, though you'll need to be careful with what lenses you pick up as those can get quite hefty. The R6ii autofocus is great, EVF solid from what I recall, and the body is on the lighter side for full-frame cameras.
An extreme route could be to forego autofocus altogether and go the manual focus route, but with a rangefinder. I actually found myself hitting more shots with my rangefinder camera vs. the autofocus on the Nikon Z8 (albeit still adjusting to this camera) when covering an event recently so it is definitely something that can be learned.
Hope that gives you some useful information or ideas! Happy to connect further too if you want to hit me on instagram: @joonrho

That was a fantastic demo of the camera and the usability experience - but my biggest complaint was the speed of the photos and various video samples - wish the short clips were 3X longer to provide more time to really take in the image. Really loved the car and forgot I was watching a camera review. So many of the scenes were total eye candy. Glad you emphasized the complexity of modern cameras - a challenge for you as a professional for non pros like myself it will be quite a learning curve. I think that compact sigma and other similar lenses are awesome and a critical differentiator over cell phones - zoom lenses to frame a subject near or far. Really enjoyed the color grade too. 5:06 is this really video from iPhone 8? 6:12 "I'm keeping it" not sure if you were referring to the camera or the lens.

If your primary focus is vlogging/landscape, it might be worth looking at wider options like the Tamron 11-20(I think that's what it is?) or the Sony 11mm, 10-18, etc.
If you still want the reach then the Sigma 18-50 might be a solid option minus the distortion at 18mm.
And noted, I'll work on figuring out the best settings that work for me!

    • @boywithacamera

I'd choose this over the A7C because of the improved autofocus and the fact that it has 10-bit video. I don't have firsthand experience with the A7C II, but if you have the budget, that might be a good way to go as it will perform a bit better if you're in a lowlight setting due to the larger sensor size. I feel like the a6700 performs well enough for most people though, so you might be better off spending the extra money on lenses, lighting, audio, etc.

I think the deciding factor is asking if you want ff enough to accept the 4K60 crop & (some) larger lenses but also gain better heat management.

Another was a 4 hour photo/video event, another a 3-4 hour photoshoot with strobes.
