      Παναγιώτης Μπάκος Actually, peanut butter is healthy in modest amounts. Of course if you sit and eat the entire jar you will gain weight but if you put it on celery sticks then it's very healthy.

    Calorie counting is misleading because some foods like nuts and avocados happen to be very calorie dense but also among the healthiest foods on the planet. Meanwhile diet coke has next to no calories and is considered one of the unhealthiest substances to consume along with other sodas. Of course if one is looking to lose weight they should consider the amount of calories they are taking in to an extent, but they should also get educated on the nutrients in some foods and make their decisions based on that (otherwise they will just get obsessed and start succumbing to the 'portion control calorie packs' of preservative filled 'fruit chips' over the bag of fresh dates for instance). And most importantly they should exercise. Exercise truly makes all the difference.

    I eat virtually no junk food. I don't like candy and carbonated drinks. I really only like and eat fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and soy. I'm a vegetarian too. And I think I'm the only one out of my household that isn't at least overweight. I'm 14 5,2 and weigh 103 pounds. I also exercise. Guys I can tell you I got this healthy and fit by eating right and exercising. I used too eat the junk food shown in the video but now I don't and I'm one of the healthiest and fittest out of my family. I plan to stay like this throughout my life time... But when I'm on my deathbed, I'm yelling bring me 5 gallons of chocalate ice cream with marshmallows and brownies. Plus a 5 course meal. That is going to be my last meal on earth.
    Can't wait😄

      Emma Jacobs, exactly! I mean I love desert type foods. But I feel completely different when I eat healthy stuff and sweet stuff. Whenever I eat junk food, I just want more and keep feeling unsatisfied so I keep eating and end up getting sick. But when I eat something healthy, I feel energized, healthy, and satisfied. Ah I just freaking love the vegetarian lifestyle.😄

      Emma Jacobs Some people do, but cost can be a major burden. We need to bring back REGULAR farmers' markets (not the overprice "look how natural I am" crap that has become popular)
      My cousin recently moved from Colorado to The Ukraine and she has been shocked at how affordable the fruits and veggies, and fresh grains have been. Even farm fresh eggs, milk and some basic cheeses. She LOVES it!

    For all of you falling victim to counting calories or the next big weight loss program, counting calories does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It is all about eating the right nutrients, the calorie count doesn't change what happens. The only use is cutting down the amount you eat, which could easily be remedied with a little self-control and portioning and you don't need to count calories to do that. Say you usually eat 2-3 sandwiches at lunch(hey, you have a big appetite), over a few weeks become accustomed to 1.5 sandwiches every lunch on flax bread and more veggies. This very small change in portion size will make your weight dip at least 5 pounds easily.

      Don't forget. He's comparing it to whole milk. Most people drink 2% or skim which have less calories and fat.
      Really, calories are a unit that measures how much energy is released when a food breaks down. So it doesn't surprise me that the milk would have more (higher nutrition = more energy). That being said, milk does have less sugar than coke. And excess sugar will result in weight gain.

    The idea is good but this video doesn't convey the most important information like 200 calories of Apple or carrot are not 200 calories of coca cola or Doritos. It's not calories that are important here, but the nutrients

      Not true if your only goal is to lose weight. Losing weight doesn't require you to choose the fruit over the coke, only that you intake less calories that you burn. That being said it would obviously be a lot harder to maintain and generate enough energy to feel good.

    It's not really the quantity, but the quality of calories that matter. Also carbs (aka sugars) are the real culprit. Excess carb/sugar gets stored as fat, so just limit the carbs and you will see results.

    I used to eat cereal every morning thinking that it was just 110-120 calories, until I found out that it actually measures to 400 calories. Now all I eat is fruit with almonds in the morning and I don't think I've seen myself this skinny before!

      +Katelyn Scott seriously?!? 23lbs in 21 days? Are you daft? There is no miracle cure and no way to 'force your body' to lose weight like that. Not unless you eat thyroid hormones to force your metabolism up which is a REALLY stupid idea because the metabolism doesn't just control how much food is burned.
      Watching what you eat, eating healthily and exercising. THAT's how you lose weight. There is no shortcut. Stop promoting these stupid, misleading and often dangerous 'diets', thank you.

    To be genuinely useful you would have needed to state a calorie amount e.g. 200 cals - and then show the exact amount of each food that equals 200 cals. Telling us pasta is 'the first to go' and that avocado is 'used in guacamole is pointless.

      It does because of the flour. In doughnut recipe there is a lot less flour than in the bagels. That is why it contains less kilocalories.

      No it's not. People go 'oh you need to eat healthy to lose weight, cut out processed foods, sugar, fat, salt' I'm sorry, but although that works, for some people it's out of the question. I rather eat a certain amount of calories rather than eat healthy 95% of the time.

      She's right. Why do you think bodybuilders who want to slim down go to high protein diets as opposed to their usual high calorie high carb bulking diet? Your body cannot absorb large amounts of protein so your calorie absorption will be low.
      Is this the healthiest option to losing fat? No. Your body needs balance in its diet and needs a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. This does however, make it harder to lose fat.
      Pro Tip: Don't do cardio to lose fat. Lift weights and do more anaerobic activities which require you to use lots of energy, as opposed to sending your body into conservation mode, like you do with cardio.

    eat what ever you want in moderation I'm sorry there is no such thing as unhealthy food just unhealthy quantities of food. people can eat as clean as they want but you can still eat above your caloric needs and become obese. not one food particularly has caused obesity it the fact people have become less active and eat more than they need to.

    People who give up carbs are ridiculous. People who go on strict calorie restricting diets are ridiculous. I eat pasta and rice (mostly try to do whole wheat and whole grain) and I don't do crash diets I still managed to lose 24 pounds so far.

    Yes but I think what they were saying was that what these calories comparisons show is that you can fill 200 calories with empty calories or nutritious calories. 200 calories of carrots has benefits for your body, whereas 200 calories of gummy bears doesn't. Many people calorie count to lose weight but fill their calorie intake with crappy foods, when they could eat a lot more calories if they consumed healthy foods.

    The problem is not how many calories you are consuming, but from what food source you are receiving those calories. It is important to get the daily caloric value from the essential nutrients needed to live on an everyday basis.

      Yes. He's way low on the avocado calorie count and the bread, too. Unless the flax type shown is very low cal (usually thin cut). Normal for 1 slice of whole grain bread is at least 100 and up to 120 per slice.

      all nuts are... peanuts, cashews, pistacios... they contain healthy fats though, so a good snack if taken in moderation.

      MC Hallman the information is misleading. peanut butter is packed with protein, so great after expending energy. I workout 4-5 times a week, and go through about 1 bigger jar of peanut butter a week! great stuff!

      quixotic The ammounts of fat per protein is way too much though. How do you compensate for the ammounts of fats, considering your other meals must consist of some fats too? Or do you not take healthy fats to account in your diet? I guess it's all relative to your goal, if you go for strenght or aesthetics :)

      ***** I guess it works for me because I don't eat that much fat in my other meals, but more carb based instead (up until working out). it is all relative to your goal for sure... I'm on the leaner side and vascular so trust me, it's definitely about aesthetics for me. I'm not one who cares for bulky muscles at the sake of losing definition.

    A calorie is not a theory. It's a measure of the energy the body extracts from the food. If that energy is unused, it is stored in the body as fat for later. That's basic biology.

    Not always true. A lot of people go into Ramadan or intermittent fasting and still lose weight.
    Also when exactly your body slows down? what if I wake up an hour or 2 and go back to sleep without eating, my metabolism slows down? do I have to eat every time I wake up in the middle of the night also?

    375ml (a can) of coke may have less than 200 calories, but it still has 20-26 grams of sugar and Vernon's Ginerale has 38 grams. That's still going to be converted into fat.

    we eat junk because it tastes amazing..i used to eat junk nonstop 24/7 back to back. I could eat a whole bag of cookies and candy. now I cut it down. i eat meat high in protein and etc. like chicken nuggets and chicken strips and i eat sandwiches...still good for you, but its like i didn't even change my diet although i did.

    People have been saying they eat like 700 calories a day. I am a swimming so I do burn a lot of calories but I am 5,9 125 lbs and I can eat up to 2000 calories.....a meal.

    Cola is bad for you at any amount of consumption or calories.
    It also isn't just about counting calories...come on people, we have brains, please put them to use more often.

    high fiber foods have fewer 'calories'... so 200 cal broccoli or beans has less energy than 200 cal cola.. .. high protein foods have fewer calories... 200 calories of tuna has less energy than 200 cal potato chips... it is still important to generally be aware of the caloric content of food.. like 100g of raw peach has less calories than 100g of bananas.. but people who are counting their calories to precision and weighing their food really are wasting their time.

    You burn more calories eating celery than you get from it. Not all of this is completely accurate, I can have that much peanut butter for 95 cals. It all depends what brand you use, what type of what you're using. For example a granny smith apple might differ for 200 calories compared to a gala apple. Also if you are from America there is more sugar in things like peanut butter than compared to the UK. Still a good informative video it's just something to think about.

      My great grandfather was a engineer in airplanes or something in England, and he was one af the inventors of radar. And I can assure u that they invented that carrot thing so people (the enemies especially) wouldn't find out about radars.

      Basically, carrots(as well as many other foods) contain the vitamins essential for proper sight, deficiency will cause problems or at least speed that up. Making sure you get enough will help keep your body functioning properly as it is with any nutrient. It will not improve an average eye sight or give you super abilities just like none of the so-claimed superfoods will.

    I should say kilo calorie or food calories. It is often written kcal with the "k" being "kilo".

    Not impossible at all, physics has nothing to do with this, this is biology. Diffrent people digest diffrent things in diffrent ways, it is far from unheard of, if not common, for people with normal diets to be overweight, or even underweight.

    Well thank you for clearing that up. I should have known that the answer to this kids weight loss problem is the "1 simple weight loss trick" to eat more, not less! Obviously his body doesnt like getting less food and goes into "survival mode", his metabolic rate dives down below 600 calories per day to preserve all of his energy storage. I wonder how his lungs and circulatory system, and nervous system are able to operate without any energy whatsoever?

      I get a footlong on wheat, no cheese, turkey, lettuce tomato and mustard. Calories come to about 560. And if you say that is inaccurate, the NYTimes did a feature a year or so ago lauding the chain on being one of the most accurate of calorie intake estimate.

    Thats not very accurate. Diffrent people store fat in diffrent ways for diffrent reasons. Not all humans are the same and fat consumption is one thing that has huge variance. This is a key factor in how we ended up with the three primary body types (ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph).

    I started counting how many calories I should eat in a day and 2000 to 2500 calories is not much when you snack on high calorie junk food and ketchup has a lot of calories.

      terry fraser Yeah, it pretty much makes junk food a no go unless you're cool with being hungry all the time. Fruits and vegetables (as well as some beans) are good for keeping you full while keeping calories low. Plus, all that fiber will make it so you don't absorb as many calories.

      Cereal is around 110-120 calories for 1 cup. (cup being a proper cup measurement of 250ml) 1 cup is not much. Generally to fill a bowl you would need at least 2 maybe even 2.5 cups. Then add the 250ml of milk which is 160 calories. So basically for a decent size bowl of cereal in the morning you eat about 400 calories.

    I don't give a fuck... I'm still eating peanut butter :D Btw, all macromolecules and specific subtypes should be taken into consideration, as opposed to calories alone. Ex. peanut butter has a high fat volume, but the fats are mainly unsaturated. Cheese and butter are similar, but contain more detrimental saturated and occasionally trans fats.
