I remember beginning my weight loss journey a few years ago and counting calories. I was shocked and also disappointed with how much I was eating a day especially in fats alone. This video is great

@@paketik4960 I can only speak for myself but it's so easy to overeat when you are not counting calories. If I always ate until I felt "full" then I would probably consume 3000 to 4000 calories depending on the day. After starting calorie counting I really struggled at first to fight off the hunger and stay around 2000 or below calories a day. But you can do it! You just have to find your own way how to manage it. I love apples for example and I found out that eating an apple at the end of the day is the perfect hunger killer for me. It is healthy, tastes great, is low in calories and most importantly makes you feel very full for the relatively little amount of it that you actually consume. So it works perfectly as a dinner snack for me.
Also soup is the king of weight loss for me. You can eat so much soup and it's so few calories since it's mostly just water. And it really fills you up. And don't forget to drink at least 2,5 liters of water every day, water is also such a huge hunger killer, you won't believe it - I definitely underestimated how much water can help in fighting the urge to overeat in the beginning.
There are healthy and unhealthy fats. Stay away from highly processed foods with a lot of sugar, fats, and carbs. Just by eating real food and you should be good. Low fat products like low-fat milk, sour cream, or yogurt aren’t better than regular fat versions. They can be less calories but that doesn’t mean it’s better. Avoid fake butter, its unnatural, made of straight up whipped oil.

Soda, sweets, milk, cheese, butter, bread, pasta, fast food, etc.
If you are used to not choosing the right foods, getting under 2000 calories can feel like starving.
Despite being a running joke, changing your soda to sugar-free is easily the easiest way to lose weight if you're into soft drinks BTW. Also drink normal coffee instead of Frankensteins they do at Starbucks and the like. Doesn't need to be black you can use a bit of sugar and cream, but calories it it are negligible, while the sweet and buttery lattes are full meal replacers.

As you perfectly mentioned towards the end of the video, it's not only about calories, it's about how nutritious (in term of both macronutrients and micronutrients) that food/drink is.
Depends on your goal. Sone people really need calories.

Your body will use all your calories you injest indiscriminatly. 200 cals of peanut butter would add as much weight as 200 calories of whole milk. And the steroid thing doesn’t make sense at all. Steroids(not all) create a super natural state of hormonal balance, meaning that they create an extremely optimal environment for the body to build muscle or perform better at the detriment of health. This has nothing to do with not caring about where the calories come from. You can and will get fat if you eat 9000 calories on steroid with no activity to burn it off.
For anyone wondering, the numbers 4, 4, and 9 next to the carbs, protein and fat at 1:20 refer to how many calories per gram they contain.

2:20 to elaborate a little here:
both concoctions are essentially all sugar, but coke is MASSIVELY more unhealthy than milk. It's not so much about the nutrients (most in developed counties get enough nutrients from solid foods, though this becoming decreasingly true), as it is about the types of sugar in each beverage, and the quantities. Milk is mostly Lactose sugar, which is broken down into blood glucose veeeeeeeery slowly. Coca-Cola is a comically large amount of Sucrose sugar. Sucrose sugar is transformed into blood glucose incredibly quickly. This results in a dumb, massive spike in blood pressure and blood glucose levels that would normally be impossible had the human species not mastered condensing sugar as much as possible. The dose makes the poison, or whatever. Over time these ridiculously high blood glucose levels will make your cardiovascular system fail.

When talking about what the scientific basis of a calorie, I think it’s also good to differentiate between a calorie and a Calorie. The calorie, as described in the video, is in fact the energy required to make 1 g (~0.035 ounces by weight, 0.034 fluid ounces by volume) of H2O increase by 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit). For those of you who don’t know, this is not the number listed on the nutrition facts of foods. The nutrition facts list the Calories, also known as kilocalories. Essentially, one thousand calories equals one Calorie, and so one Calorie is the energy required for a kilogram (2.2 lbs) of H2O to increase by 1 degree Celsius. To put it into perspective, the average amount of energy people consume each day (taking 2350 based on the 2000-2700 estimate in the video) is enough energy to bring 23.5 kilograms of water from its freezing point to its boiling point. That is over 6 gallons of water. Furthermore, we, in general, expend that amount of energy each day through the activities we do.
So essentially, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re weak. You have the kind of power inside of you that can do incredible things, and you can probably do more than you think you can

1:12 - Sigh, no. that's a "small" calorie. The caloric value on food is always in "big" calories, or kcal (kilo calories), which is the amount of energy required to heat 1 kilogram of water by 1 degree celsius. (Not an exact definition because there are other variables in there, but mostly true in normal scenarios)
If the definition presented in the video was true then a daily diet of 2000 calories would only be enough to heat about 2kg of your body weight by 1C, which is obviously a nonsensically small amount of energy.

We should just lose the zeros, call a kilocalorie a calorie, and call the actual measure of calories at this point a millicalorie.

I even provided a time stamp where he says that the "calorie" he is talking about describes the amount of energy that it takes to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius - and that is the definition of a small calorie, and an absolutely miniscule amount of energy.
In short, he lacks rudimentary physics knowledge, and quite frankly lacks logic in thinking that you can survive an entire day on the amount of energy it takes to heat up a liter of water by 2 degrees.
By the way even his definition of a small calorie isn't precise, but it's close enough that we can ignore it.

@DrasticSharp yo i did this and almost died. i had 1800 today and am still fighting off the guilt from that but it’s better than that. ive been dealing with problems with eating that little for the past 6 months even though i’m eating way more. good luck dude.
I have been keeping track of my calories for more then a year. Lost about 50 kilos, by limiting myself to 1800/2000 kcal a day.
To put that into perspective... in terms of food:
- 2 slices of bread with butter and some delly meat. 250/400 kcal
- 1,5 litter of green ice thea 280 kcal
- evening meal ranging from 450 to 950 kcal.
- and a late night snack from the left over calories, sometimes its enough for a frozen pizza.
And you can say all you want about late night snacking being bad for you, but if i watch my intake its fine. Counting calories work, they have a set energie level indepented on when you eat it.
It works better to cut out all the BS and junk food to lose weight easily. If you feel like you need to count calories when eating something, do not eat it.

There's two different definitions of calorie. The definition as the energy needed to heat 1g of water by 1°C is for the small calorie, but the nutritional values used the large Calories which is 1000x as large (meaning it heats a kg of water by 1°C). It's surprising how much water a little bit of cheese can heat.
You can have whatever you like (within reason) so long as you stay below your TDEE. There's nothing wrong with the Big Mac at ~600 calories as a one-off, so long as you moderate everything else.
If the Big Mac is your only meal of the day you'll still lose weight.
👍 yep. As long as you are in a calorie deficit things will be fine. If I want a treat I have to earn it meaning that If I really want that extra patty or extra Big Mac then I have to earn it and burn 🔥 it off by walking 6 miles. I did that before with a Cinnabon. I walked 5 miles to get it and 5 miles back home…..1000 calories. And as a bonus I build a little muscle by walking 10 miles.
Yes but if most of your calories come from, say, sweets, or fries, then you will keep being hungry and might get a headache, so better-filling food is good. Burgers aren't even that bad of a choice compared to their reputation.

Or cut your portion of food you like and fill rest with low calorie "fillers" like veggies, salads, watery foods which not only fill your stomach but require more calorie to digest than they give you back in calories. Celery is literally burning calories just to eat. Brocolli has barely any. Carrots is watery and good for eyesight. Water melon, apple, strawberry, etc and other low sugar fruits...is mostly water.

The body’s hunger and satiety signals are pretty accurate and effortless calories counters.
I think you should clarify that when we are speaking of food calories, we really mean kilo calories. So the energy equivalence is really the amount of thermal energy required to raise one kg of water by one degree C

I hope you get better with your ed. I used to count my calories as well when my ed was in its worst, but now I’m able to think food as fuel and I have learned to not give a shit about the calories. You should also mention that products calories differ from each other and can in fact have less calories due to their different digestibility (peanuts, alcohol). Nowadays there are many researches about that.

@G L no, healthy food has much less calories than unhealthy food, this is facts, it’s not misleading. Unhealthy food has tons of extra ingredients added and all those have tons of calories while fruits and vegetables don’t and are low calorie in themselves.

Note that with cereal and oatmeal it isn't only volume but cereal being straight up simple carbs and oatmeal filling you MUCH better because of the food's complex structure. @Que I'm a tall person who excercises a lot and I eat more in the 3500 range. Small inactive people of course need less than 2000, but tall professional athletes will defintely eat a lot more than 2700.

I learned more about calories from this video than like 1 whole week worth of biology class lol
Actually it’s waaay more complicated than that because calorie values assume that 100% of that food is used by your body. Because the way they determine calories in food is done by burning it. And measuring the energy produced. So even things like fiber which is a non-digestible carb which still can be burnt in the „bomb calorimeter“ is in than calorie number on the package. but it leaves your body unprocessed without adding calls. Also the less processed your food is the less efficiently your body is able to use the energy and more calories actually leave your body unused. Also digesting unprocessed food uses up more cals than processed food. Also the more the food is processed the better is the availability of calories to your body. Meaning 200kcals of fresh broccoli are not the same as 200kcal of candy or cheap burger. And it goes on and on. But the takeaway is that the same caloric amount of healthy unprocessed food will actually add less calories to your body than low quality highly processed food items. Eat healthy folks!
