    for me, the killer feature on any AM5 mobo would be to run 4 sticks of RAM at high clock speeds.. but unfortunately we are not there yet with DDR5 on AMD based chipsets yet. Hopefully, soon!!

    • @TheBebe666
      @TheBebe666 Год назад +3

      For now it is possible to run 4 sticks at 6000. At least 64GB is possible. Didn`t tried on Asus mobo but i will soon. Currently running that on Aorus Master. Ordered this mobo just today so i will try it. 128GB though...absolutely not yet possible over 4800 ...but for that you must have 7950x ...and even then it is hard to boot . At least in my case. Maybe someone have different results.

    Wow, thanks for the detailed review! It's great to see such a thorough breakdown of the Asus Rog Strix X670E gaming Wi-Fi motherboard. Your insights into its design, performance, and features are really helpful for anyone considering this board.
    I'm particularly impressed with the focus on the PCIe 5.0 standard throughout the motherboard. It seems like Asus has gone all-in on this technology, which is exciting for future-proofing and maximizing bandwidth. The robust VRM setup and advanced cooling solutions also sound fantastic, especially for those who love overclocking.
    The comparison with its Intel counterpart is intriguing. It seems like Asus is pushing the boundaries of what a premium motherboard can offer, and it's exciting to see how they differentiate it from the Crosshair Hero.
    I'd love to hear more about your personal experiences with this motherboard, especially any specific use cases or applications where you've seen it shine. Thanks again for the informative review!

    This comment coming from someone who have owned computers since the late 80's when i was 12-13 years old. Upgrading machines since then and so forth...
    One thing i am still waiting for on MB's are a new standard with modernization of those goddamn front panel connectors. It's almost flabbergasting to behold all the ultra-super-mega techy stuff we deal with on every iteration of new gen boards. But these damn old pins never seem to go. Yes don't mess with things that work. But it would be nice to see a socket similar to the power connector, just plug that sob in.

    I agree 100% that this STRIX X670E-E is BETTER than the Crosshair Hero. AND, it's two hundred dollars LESS!!!!! Comparing them head to head, the two USB 4.0 ports are the ONLY real upgrade over this STRIX board. Well, it does have a PCIe riser card to add another M.2, but this STRIX board does everything else the Hero can do, has more usb ports and has more PCIe m.2 ports. There were approximately two or three other things this board had, the the Hero didn't have as well. I just can't remember them right now. Anyway, a great board for a lot less money. Also, I can't imagine in this day and age, what anyone would need with more than two SATA ports??? Having an actually HDD is logical as a gigantic storage drive, but more than that??? NOPE! So I get away with one SATA port most of the time, and a second one for data transfers on a large drive might come into play. So two ports is more than enough, and here we have four... And to be fair, I find the ROG RGB EYE to be MUCH more attractive on the STRIX X670E-E than the Z790, as the the crystal looking colors against that grid look awesome! I STILL think ALL of Asus's mobo's are WAY OVER_PRICED!!!! But, as these boards go, this is the deal of the bunch and a lot of bang for your buck... Thanks for another great video.

      I would agree on the hardware side. But what Asus does is gives you more options in the BIOS on the Crosshair models for tweaking and OCing the CPU. Such as ASUS Custom Algorithms, ASUS Dynamic OC Switcher, among other settings/options. Its how they get people to buy up.

    Hi Laurent, I have to say your unique demeanor and presentation style makes your reviews so entertaining, it's actually a pleasure to listen, thank you! Not to mention loads of technical data that is amazingly well presented in your reviews. I'm currently researching options for my new rig. Seems like Strix would be a winner, but the fact that using 1 of M2 slots or using 2nd PCIE slot would force 1st PCIE into x8 speed, it makes those 2 extra slots completely useless to me, since I'd never want to lose x16 speed in the first slot. Among other boards I'm considering (which coincidentally you already reviewed, ty), there's also MSI MPG X670E Carbon, which you haven't yet. Would you be able to review that one? Sure, it's got some less functionalities than Strix, but I'd greatly benefit from your observations, and would again enjoy another very entertaining video :) And if you can't do the MSI, perhaps AsRock X670E Taichi?

      @jerryb19531953 Год назад

      " but the fact that using 1 of M2 slots or using 2nd PCIE slot would force 1st PCIE into x8 speed" I believe that the lower slot with the MD2 4.0 will lower the pcie slot to 4. Using all m.2 5.0 slots has no effect on the GPU slot.

      I'm on the same boat, deciding between the AsRock Taichi and this one. I think I'll pick up the ROG Stix as it has more USB ports on the I/O and I like their M.2 layout 3x 5.0 and 1x 4.0, versus1x 5.0 on 3x 4.0 on the AsRock board. Plus the extra QOL features it has like the tool-less M.2 intall and PCIE quick release switch, it's 99% my choice. Just like the looks of the Taichi better, but yeah, this is the real deal.

      DO NOT BUY ASUS. If you use any of the OC/EXPO settings the motherboard will get unstable, it will not post and when it does it will ask you to review your BIOS settings -> saving and exit without changing anything will make it boot normally most of the times -> else you might spend 20 - 40 minutes trying to make it boot. Then it will work for a couple of days and it the issue will start again. Plenty of posts everywhere mentioning this issues. Go for ASRock.

    I did just buy this MB with a 7700x and Trident Z Neo EXPO... It didnt run without an BIOS Update, guess it didnt like the RAM. Two things that i didnt know, an maybe some need to know. 1. the 2nd PCIe 5 m.2 slot shares it lanes with the PCIe x16.. so only x8 when you put an M.2 in that slot.. 2nd. the thermal pads are realy sticky... the 1st M.2 slot heatsink is not that easy to get reinstalld. and the thermalpad and the SSD kinda "glued" together.

    Trying to map out a build. This board has 3 Gen5 m.2 slots. The manual says to use any of those slots. Does that mean they all run to the CPU or do they share lanes?
    There is a 4th Gen4 m.2, I am assuming that goes to the chipset sharing bandwidth with the sata ports? What about the USB ports in the back? Do any of the USB-C ports have dedicated bandwidth?
    Finally, I dont know much about Thunderbolt cards. If plugging on into the 3rd PCIe slot, does that count towards sharing the PCIe lanes? (The main GPU slot is Gen5 x18. Occupying the other slots makes it x8/x4/x4)

I have been using the integrated APU but plan to buy an RTX 4070 class GPU soon. Since my Arctic Liquid Freezer 360 AIO hoses are so long and hang so low, the GPU would fit better in the PCIEX16_2 slot (the middle PCIe slot). Your video shows that this middle slot drops to PCIe 5.0 X4 (16 GBs) when using a dual GPU configuration (GPU in slot 1 and a second GPU in slot 2). If there is only one GPU and it is in this second (middle) slot, is the data rate still limited to 16 GBs? And is this an issue for a PCIe 4.0 GPU like an RTX 4070? Thanks - Great video!

      Hi Jvidia.
      The Carbon is on my long list of mobos to review, but for knowing them well I would think it is very similar in terms of performances to the STRIX-E.
      You can use any USB port as they have universally the same driver recognition.
      The reason why it has been historically advised to use the UNS 2.0 plug is to not waist a 5 / 10 gbs plug on dongle which will use only a fraction of it available bandwidth.

    My ROG Strix X670E-E has randomly "lost"my Sabrent Rocket PCIE4.0 1TB NVME 3 times in 1 month of owning it. Every time I boot I have to physically unplug/reconnect my Corsair K70 M2 rgb keyboard too.... Asus support and Newegg both havent done anything to fix this $540 US MB in first month of "Launch"..... My R7 7700X does reach 5,750 on 3 cores though....Memory is running at 6200. Waiting on 7900XTX Red Devil release. Great video!

I hate the ASUS RGB Armory Crate software etc, never got it working on my current Z370, and the TUF looks like it has no RGB, so I'm still think it's the right choice.

    Do you think the GPU unlocking mechanism is flimsy when compared to the improved design on the Z790 counterpart? I know you made clear it wansn´t a deal breaker, but do you belive it is more prone do ´break´ or show any defect? We´re talking about the main GPU slot, so any concern is valid.
    Anyway, unlike the Z790, this motherboard promises much more upgradability. Imagine swapping to a top tier Ryzen CPU 3 years from now.

    I have this Mobo, it's great. But it's very finicky with it's RAM compatability. Also, my MSI 4090 SUPRIM X mostly Bifracates to PCIE Gen 4 x16, but sometimes it goes down to Gen 3 X16 for no apparent reason (Card is fully seated, latest drivers, bios, and only 1 M.2 990 pro in the PCIE 5.0 choochoo plate). Hopefully more bios versions will come out to stabalize this guy because it's a good board but beware, you may have BIOS adjustments to make on PCIE, and RAM to make it work for you.

  • @tremaineunderwood7322
    @tremaineunderwood7322 4 месяца назад

    So here is a question, why spend so much on a board when most boards now have overkill VRMS and you can get 95% of the features on a B650E board. Admittedly they will only have one PCIE 5 gpu slot, but why would you need more, SLI is long dead. Plus with GPU prices, who the hell could afford 2 anyway? Even more on that is the fact that even a 4090 can't saturate gen 5. On NVME, some B650 boards support a M.2 slot with PCIE 5, although it seems like the actual real world performance improvement isn't enough to really care about it. So why spend such a huge amount on a board with a bunch of features that you will most likely never use? Rather get yourself somehting like the ASRock B650E Taichi Lite for $240 and spend the rest on a bigger GPU or CPU. Spending so much on a motherboard, like in the video, makes very little sense. Oh and the one I am suggesting has an even more overkill VRM for some reason at 2520a. It has one Gen 5 X16 slot and one Gen 5 NVME slot. Remember guys, unless the VRMS are crap, which now seems to be almost none of them now, you will get the top performance of a 7950X. According to hardware unboxed, even $140 motherboards will even do that, so rather spend the money elsewhere.
