- Here's a look at some new (to me!) paints I came across on some RC searching. I was easily convinced to pick up some of these and try them on my newest project, the B44.2! Here's where I got it from and some info from Spaz Stix's website:
www.spazstix.com/
SZX10009 ULTIMATE MIRROR CHROME AEROSOL 3.5oz
What makes Spaz Stix Ultimate Mirror Chrome™ so popular? Being able to see the reflection of the painter every time you look at it! Spaz Stix Ultimate Mirror Chrome™ is the essential ingredient to reflect your cars flair and add a unique shine to your project. Ultimate Mirror Chrome™ is versatile as an accent, main theme, or backer. Try it in combination with Spaz Stix Candy Colors for a colored chrome effect! Ultimate Mirror Chrome™ is specially formulated for use with Lexan plastic. To achieve best results, Ultimate Mirror Chrome™ should be backed with Spaz Stix Ultimate Black Backer for Mirror Chrome (SZX10209). Use Spaz Stix Ultimate Clear Coat (SZX10909) as a thin layer to lightly seal the Mirror Chrome and protect any additional colors from bleeding through.
The nozzles on the spaz stix paints are much better than the Tamiya/Pactras as well. They seem to give a better/finer spray and are larger for more comfort on the finger! I also noticed the Spaz Stix paints didn't smell as bad as the others (Except for the Black Backer) I should have a wrap up final video here by this weekend
This paint looks awesome and the size looks way better than Tamiya!
Gotta read net wt. my friend just cause the can is bigger dosent mean its filled to the top
Very true, Pactra/Tamiya are 3oz or 85g net weight and the SpazStix are 3.5oz or 100g.....I get your logic, but from a cost of container/packaging/shipping standpoint, there's zero reason to make a can bigger, but not to fill it up as a deception
I haven't used the holographic paints from Spaz Stix before. Have you tried their site for reference? Worst case, give them a call. They're based in Utah and are super friendly. I met some of the reps at RCX this past year.
How many coats of the pearls do you need to apply on a proline brute body? One can two? And back it with the black backer?
The PL Brute bodies aren't really intended to be painted...as they're not clear like Lexan shells. The only way to paint them would be on the outside, and the paint would just come right off
please post a vid showing how to properly use the spazstix holographic paint because i am having some difficulty and need some help
Can I use the chrome as a backer for the candy colors or it looks better with metallic silver?
I would use the metallic Silver...The Chrome is a different type of paint
i didnt have very good luck with spaz stix chrome. it flakes off easily. and i didnt even use it on a off-road truck. i used it on my drifter..
Do you need to clearcoat the color changing paint?
How long does it usely take NitroHouse to send stuff to you at your door?
What should I back or other colors to lay down for the Candy Apple red thank you
Sorry, your comment came over as Spam.....I just wash the bodies with soap and water, dry and mask off the design. That usually works. I know that Spaz Stix recommends using a pre-conditioner to get a smoother coat/coverage. I have had issues before with the mirror chrome, where I took a huge hit on the track and it peeled off in the impact section, but that was it.
The B44.2 kit actually comes with a plastic "sticker like" chassis protector. I haven't placed it yet, as I am waiting for a couple more parts to come in for the build. I also plan to order a custom one from Up-Grade RC.
I've actually never had anything shipped by them, as they're about 10 miles away from me.......Give em a call and check if you haven't gotten it yet. JT will probably answer.
Just did the final coats on the chrome effect and had to peel away the overspray coating to sneek a peek. It is cool!
So far so good with mine. I think with the chrome especially, it's the prep. I noticed several areas that I didn't prep very well.
Thanks Zim! I should have an update in a couple of days. The body turned out awesome.
The nozzles are great and the spray seems to be very fine and coats very evenly.
Would it b ok to hit up the body w a light coat of glitter b4 laying down the spastix then black to finish?
Yeah, I don't see why not
I got the candy blue and I was wondering if I have to back it. Could I use solid white to back it?
Yeah, def. If you go with a white, it will be more brighter blue. Black backer will turn it more of a midnight
So far, so good! It really seems like an upgrade to Tamiya and Pactra
Is this for plastic only or can you paint car rims ,steel?
Nick Hines I’m sure it could work, but I would goto an auto parts store for wheel specific paint like Krylon or duplicolor
I wonder if these paints work on gundam models, that is if it goes well with the plastics. I'm thinking about buying the holographic paint for a project of mine.
The Spaz Stix paint line was designed for polycarbonate or flexible plastics, as it won't flake or peel. It should work fine as far as I know
The RCNetwork Ah good good, I know we don't share the SAME hobby but we both are brothers in the aspect of painting XD, Thanks for the tid bit. Love the holographic paint and want to do something with that....
Cool deal! Thanks for watching.
So you showed nothing. Waste of 4 min.
I’ll gladly refund the money you paid to watch my video….
Just a word of advice, use a chassi protector to preserve your chassi. It is basically a big sticker that doesn't let your chassi get scratched
I can only imagine!
what do you do to prep the bodies for chrome cause all the chrome i used just flaked off
Thanks for sharing your news ! This paint is good as tamiya in my experience my friend
Has anyone noticed the holographic leaving streaks? I have thank goodness sprayed the holographic on scrap lexan ( in super thin layers; inside a box and even outside ) & it keeps showing streaks/blotches.
+bellyisis I've seen some issues on the Mirror spray
Cant wait to see the finished body u have the best vids
Got candy orange, I'm I doing something wrong? I'm like 5 layers in, and its pretty transparent?
Check they're website. It probably requires a backer like the silver or possibly white to prong out the try color.
Their Chrome is the best paint ever.
do you think the chrome will work on regular plastic? like regular toys from walmart and toys r us
I would think so....make sure it's 100% clean though
Spaz stix means some thing else in the U.K trying not to laugh.;
Ship to Brazil ?
btw i am painting a lexan rc body
green/purple/teal looked nice so i tried it out and its mostly green? barely any purple and basically no teal at all. Feel like I wasted $12.
How did you back it? sometimes that dictates what color it really turns
High gloss black as it recommended.
I saw somewhere that the clear coat was suggested, now I can't find where I saw that! It look sgreat with the black backer. Should have an update tomorrow
Do you spray it like a normal RC body on the inside?
Juno Mac RC Yep!
Can I use this on my motorcycle?
It's intended to be used on flexible plastic, so it won't flake/peel
DOES THE CHROME STICK TO METAL?
Not sure, these are polycarbonate paints meant to stick on flexible plastic
