I remember watching this on TV. I was surprised only half of it focused on the Cowboys during the time of the assassination. Now re-watching 9 yrs later, it makes sense that the other half of it was focusing on Staubach helping to clean up the image of Dallas post JFK.

There is no doubt the team changed the image of the city over time, it has been well documented as well. Other cities (Buffalo and Washington DC twice,) have experienced the assassination of a President, but they didn't have that same recognition as Dallas, as at that time of course those two other cities did not have the Bills and Redskins, nor football. Sports should have nothing to do with it, but it did in 1963. Society has changed. If an assassination happens again, will that team from that city get the same response? If so, it would be unfair of course.

@@rog9601 Though one thing to note. Football wasn't around when Lincoln was assassinated (didn't come about until 1869) and professional football didn't really exist in 1901 (college football did however).
It would be interesting to see how pro teams would be seen if an assassination would take place nowadays. I feel like they wouldn't be treated the way the Cowboys were in 1963, but you never know if exceptions are made. At least, short term exceptions.
Then again, people didn't label the Bills as racists/killers after the Buffalo shooting back in May. And I doubt people trashed the Orlando Magic and accused them of being homophobic murderers after the 2016 shooting there.

    • @rog9601
      @rog9601  2 года назад +1

@@finchborat yes of course as I mentioned at the time those teams, football for that matter did not exist. Based on the idiots that are out there today, I would not be surprised if there was a similar reaction some day.

Ironic that Staubach helped reverse the image of the city where his commander-in-chief was murdered. Further on that note, just under 6 weeks after the assassination, Staubach's Navy team lost the national championship to Texas in the '64 Cotton Bowl played at the Cowboy's home stadium in Dallas. Lastly, Staubach's only regular season loss that year occurred in the Cotton Bowl stadium to SMU, the school from which Meredith came. Staubach and his teammates were upset by several controversial calls against them in that SMU game. Thick irony indeed.

Assassination haunts America everyday. 4 Black Days in November of 1963. Disgraceful that NFL played that weekend. Shouldn't have played that weekend. Players and owners didn't want to play and Rozelle screwed that up big time.

LHO also murdered a Dallas Policeman 45 mins after he killed
    WW II Vet
    JFK 🇺🇸
    Officer J D Tippitt
    A WW II Vet
So, if LHO didn't kill JFK?
Why would he try to evade arrest and kill a Dallas cop ?
Scratch your head and contemplate that 🤷🏻‍♀️

the conspiracy is deeper than that.. whether LHO was set up or not the theory was JD Tippit was hired to kill him bc he wld be above question w/ his resume but LHO was quicker on the draw.. to sum it up how wld JD Tippit know who & what LHO looked like if he was the main suspect 45 mins after the assassination unless he had previous knowledge of the man beforehand..

  • @opticscolossalandepicvideo4879

Lee Harvey Oswald was a big fan of the Cleveland browns. He was very much looking forward to watching games in prison that weekend. Guards said all prisoners are allowed to watch football on tv Sadly he got shot before the kick off at 1 pm est. they broke into the Cleveland browns Dallas cowboys football game to announce his death. That would have angered him greatly his wife said. He was a huge Cleveland browns fan. He was wearing a browns jersey under the sweater when he was shot He was also a huge Cincinnati reds fans because he was a red communist
