Chuck Howley, 54, was a magic man as far as my childhood memories go. As a 10 year old in Dallas Texas in 1964 I was a huge Cowboy fan. I literally would run outside and start running and crying anytime the Cowboys lost. I wanted the Cowboys to win every game. 54, 74, 17, 22, 43, 66, 55, 27, 63, 76, 35, 33, 51, 52, 30, 20, 34, Coach Landry and God Bless them all especially Chuck Howley today for making my childhood magical growing up in the 60s in Dallas Texas. Though I never met 54 personally I can honestly say I love Chuck Howley !!

@@charlie12gage Not really, older players from all over the league are overlooked. The Cowboys are the most lucrative franchise so it would be bad business for the NFL to be biased against the Cowboys in any way, shape, or form. You're just in your feels.

It's honestly kind of sad. They let these amazing, and historic players, fall by the wayside. It taking 50 years, to get Howley into the Hall of Fame is criminal.
You want these men to be able to be able to enjoy the experience. Get up there and give their speeches, thinking back to their time at this as a player.
They robbed him of the joy, of one of life's greatest accomplishments. He gave his body to the game and they waited until his mind was gone as well.
I hope this has become a lesson to the league.

I grew up living and dying with Chuck Howley, Leroy Jordan, Dave Manders, John Niland, Bob Lilly, Calvin Hill and Roger Staibauch. Chuck Howley’s induction into the HOF is long overdue.

This man last played 20 yrs before I came into this world and as a lifelong Cowboy fan I’m ashamed that I had no idea how great of a player he was. You know about Bob Lilly, Staubach, Cliff Harris, Renfro, Pearson, Dorsett. I’ve heard of Chuck Howley but Randy White was who I connected #54 with. Ofcourse I grew up watching the triplets and later more clearly Roy Williams, DWare, Romo, Witten. After watching this I now know what a badass Chuck Howley was and the injustice of having to wait so long to be inducted into Canton.

I still have his autograph, signed on the back of one of my mother's unused checks from her checkbook. When he came to pick Scott up from Northlake Wolves soccer practice (he was on the 1-year younger team, I was on the older team), I scrambled to find something he could sign. This was 1973 - just as Chuck was about to retire.

I’m so happy #54 finally got what he deserved! Now I’m going to vent. It’s about fuckin’ time!! Chuck Howley should’ve been inducted his first year of eligibility! It’s very unfortunate that he wasn’t able to celebrate in person or what should’ve been years of celebration with every new class. The HOF selection committee is an absolute joke! There needs to be more player input with regards to voting and selection. It seems more and more that the old school players are being forgotten about and left behind in favor of the modern era. Other players recently inducted like Dave Robinson also should’ve been enshrined years ago! You know what, the modern era guys can fucking wait! There are still many players from the 60’s and 70’s who should be in Canton. The HOF needs to correct this terrible oversight and enshrine a bulk senior class, period! Anyway, congratulations Mr. Howley!! One of thee’ best LB’s to ever play the game! Chuck Howley played 14 years in the NFL with 180 games under his belt. He was a 5x First Team All Pro, 1x Second Team, as well as 6x Pro Bowl participant. Howley’s teams won 2 NFC Championships and also played in two Super Bowls, losing in 1970, and winning in 1971. He is the only player in NFL history to win a SB MVP award as a member of the losing team. Additionally, Howley finished his career with 25 interceptions, 18 fumble recoveries with 591 total yards returned and 3 touchdowns. Two of Howley’s contemporaries who are in the NFL Hall of Fame as Linebackers are Chris Hanburger and Dave Wilcox. Hanburger also played 14 years with 187 games total. He was a 5x First Team All Pro, 1x Second Team, elected to 9 Pro Bowls, and finishing his career with 19 interceptions, 17 fumble recoveries with 400 total return yards and 5 TD’s. Wilcox played 11 years with 153 games played and no Super Bowl appearances. He was a 2x First Team All Pro, 2x Second Team, and 7x Pro Bowler with 14 interceptions, 12 fumble recoveries, 197 total yards returned and 2 TD’s. With exception to 1 NFC title, neither of them played on a championship team. Wilcox and Hanburger have been in Canton for 22 and 11 years respectively. Chuck Howley should’ve been enshrined years ago!! So WHAT THE FUCK??!!!! I’m a lifelong Packers fan but also have a great love and appreciation for NFL history, especially the 1960’s. As for the Cowboys and their Doomsday Defense, I also believe DE George Andrie should be in Canton as well. No question! Another player on that defense who never really got the notoriety for his savage gameplay was LB Dave Edwards. He played and started nearly 15 years opposite Howley on the SS. With Jordan in the middle, they were one of the best LB corps of their day!

The really sad part is that this should not have happened.....ZERO doubt Chuck Howley is one of the best OLB to ever play. All around OLBs ? Probably second to Jack Ham. LT is the greatest defensive player ever, but he could not cover the tight end or a running back like Ham and Howley.
