I absolutely love the Manster Randy White. He was as good as anybody I ever saw. In a lot of ways my favorite Cowboy of all time. If you saw Hollywood Henderson play he could easily have been in the HOF for sure.

Great team, though not as good as the back-to-back teams ‘92-‘93. THOSE teams can beat any team from any era, at least 6/10 times. Yup, there isn’t a team in NFL history which could go 10 games vs those Cowboys and win even 5 of them. Most wouldn’t win more than 2-3.

I will put it this way, I think these Cowboys if they played ANY TEAM OF ANY TIME, 100 times they would win AT LEAST 50 games. I wish the Steelers would have made it in 77 instead of Denver. Every one of those guys on Doomsday II defense and '77 Cowboys offense were and will always be my football heroes. Loved watching them every Sunday when I was kid.
Thomas Hollywood Henderson actually had excellent individual moments vs the Steelers, especially in both cowboys SB losses inthe 70's vs Pittsburgh. He almost ran SB 10 game opening kickoff for a TD ,setting up a early cowboys fg ,his successfull grasping of Bradshaw in SB 13, allowing his teammate Mike Hegmans to strip Bradshaw of the ball and return it for a cowboys defensive TD certified his presence as being a thorn for the Steelers in both SB games . His part on the cowboys defense in both SB games of not allowing Franco to break outside containment prevented Franco from eclipsing 100 yds in any of those SB games or avg 4 yds a carry . Thomas Hollywood Henderson wasn't made impactful plays against the Steelers. Fortunately our Steelers captured both SB wins and both the 77 and 79 regular season wins .

T.D. ( Tony Dorsett) is my favorite running back. He could break one on any given play. And he was the first running back to run for a 99 yard touchdown. A record that can never be broken unless the field becomes longer.

Those Cowboys were so good that even as a Steelers fan in W.PA I respected the Cowboys, enjoyed watching them play & wouldn’t have minded if they won. Tony Dorsett of course was a W.PA hero too. Cowboys were a dynasty in their own right.

The first game I ever saw on tv was the Ice Bowl, the 1967 NFL Championship game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. I had just turned 9 years old. I saw the star on the Cowboys helmet and I was instantly hooked. To me, the glory years for Dallas were from the mid sixties until the final NFC Championship game appearance in the early eighties. The early to mid nineties brought three titles in a four year span but was not the same. The Cowboys started and ended with one man: Coach Tom Landry.

Five Super Bowl appearances in the 70s, the most by any team. Keep an eye out come Super Bowl time. Chuck Howley is a Senior Committee nominee for the Hall of Fame. He is 86 and suffering from Alzheimer's. I sure hope he gets in. He had two excellent Super Bowls, V vs the Baltimore Colts and VI vs the Miami Dolphins. He remains the only player from a losing team to win MVP honors in a Super Bowl game. That was in Super Bowl V.
Super Bowl 13 was devastating for the team and myself personally even though I have no affiliation I still think and wish that turned out different to this day as the Cowboys would have been the first to win three Super Bowls and then known as the team of the 70s... only thing I could think of changing NFL history moreso or a harder pill to swallow would have been the 2007 Patriots unbeaten team losing to a big Underdog in the New York Giants in the Super Bowl.

Had Roger stayed, we may have won another title or two as I know we win one or two of those NFC Championship games. Danny White was better than he ever gets credit for, however, he had a knack for throwing crucial interceptions and mainly for NOT being Roger the Dodger. I think had Roger played until 84 we at the LEAST win one more title if not 2 or 3.

That 1980 Eagle team that made he Superbowl was good. But, I think Dallas wins the NFC title game if Roger had stayed one more season. I think Dallas would have also beat the 1980 Raiders that represented the AFC with Staubach at the helm. The 1983 Raiders were one of the all-time great teams, but that 1980 squad was the weakest Oakland squad to ever make a Super Bowl appearance in my opinion.

I was born in 1971 and started watching football in Tony Dorsett’s rookie year. The impact he made on me can’t be overstated. Watching him run/glide up the middle was like poetry in motion. Yeah, I loved to see Tony Hill make an over the shoulder long catch, but that 33 up the middle still is the most excited I’ve ever been watching any athlete. When I did start playing football around 1979, it was just by chance that I got assigned number 33. I Still remember one of my teammates’ mom tossing me my gold jersey with green numbers and me just busting at the seams when I held it up and saw 33 with my name over it. To this day, 33 makes its way into my everyday life as any password I create always has 33 in it.
Roger Staubach is the only autograph i have ever gotten from a famous person. I have met MANY famous people. He was the only one i cared to get. Love Rodger the Dodger!!
Awesome video! I grew up on the Cowboys and I loved them as much as I did my own family. I would be very nervous before & during the game and if when they won I would have way too much energy and when they lost everyone knew to leave me alone for about a week. No one knows this but when we lost the 2 Super Bowls to the Steelers I went to my room and cried like a babyeach time. I never missed a second of there games and when they were on I could be found right in front of the TV with my football. My dad would constantly be yelling me to move out of the way so he could see the game and also for me throwing my football in the air during every play. I was just trying to help them win!
My brother and myself were devastated when Staubach retired. We were in our teens, it made no sense. When the issue of CTE came about it became clear. Roger suffered numerous concussions, and had the sense to get out while he could. As far as former players from any team, he is worth the most $400M. He made the right choice.
I was born in '67 so I was a kid during the great teams of the 70's. I'm a Texan so I loved the Cowboy's. I'm not sure which SB it was but I remember watching some pregame coverage and there was a segment titled The Cliff and Charlie Show. Does anyone else remember it ? If I had to guess it probably was one of the Pittsburgh v Dallas SB's but I can't be totally sure.

Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry, both were the coordinators with the Giants during the years that they were winning championships, Landry was the defensive specialist one of the best in the games history.
As a Cowboys fan, I always found it very interesting about the historical significance between Super Bowl V (1970 season and Super Bowl XII (1977 season). Craig Morton was the Cowboys starting QB for Super Bowl V, and it still is the only Super Bowl in which the MVP was named from the losing team (Cowboys, Doomsday I, Chuck Howley). Ironically, Craig Morton ended up being the starting QB for the Cowboys' opponent in Super Bowl XII, and it is still the only Super Bowl to have co-MVPs (Cowboys, Doomsday ll, Harvey Martin and Randy White).

They were the last team to lead the league in total offense AND defense as Doomsday II racked up 53 sacks in a 14 game schedule. This squad then went on to dominate the post-season by outscoring their opponents 87-23. One could argue that in the first 12 years of the Super Bowl Era, the 1977 Cowboys were the greatest NFL team of all-time.
True, but that was the Cowboys last loss of the 1977 season, and they went on to beat the Broncos in the last game of the regular season AND in Super Bowl 12. This was the same Broncos team that defeated the Steelers 34-21 in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.
Not even close - the 1972 Dolphins were better in every retrospect. They led the league in total offense and defense as well as most points scored and fewest points allowed. People can criticize their schedule all they want but look at it this way. When the 1972 season started, K.C., Min., and Bal x2, was a brutal schedule to have to face if you base it off their 1971 performance. Their schedule was soft which means they should win every game......and they did. What makes it worse, their 1973 team was even more devastating despite not leading on all categories. The 1977 Cowboys were not underrated. Everyone had them for the NFC that year since Minnesota was getting older and Los Angeles was in transition with Joe Namath. Most pegged Pittsburgh or Oakland initially but Pittsburgh's off season issues doomed them and Oakland wasn't bad, just Denver came along and didn't give up any points. Dallas was expected to win the NFC and when it was found to be Denver, no one gave the Broncos a chance to win.
Ed “To Tall” Jones should be in the Hall of Fame. The only good part about the NFL not paying generational wealth to players in the 1970s was that it allowed players like Henderson to step away to pursue dreams & then come back. Hollywood Henderson was a beast of an athlete & entertaining too.
In addition to Harvey Martin and Randy White, there is no question that Ed “Too Tall” Jones and Randy Hughes could have gotten a share of the MVP award in Super Bowl XII.
Interesting fact about the decline of Doomsday II. Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters never played a regular or postseason game together after SB XIII. Waters missed the entire 79 season with a knee injury and the Harris retired after the 1979 season.
Rolando as a young fan (fan of 50 years ) I connected to the players as if there was a personal connection with the players .. As of late I did/have with Dware, Jwit and #9.. As I get older and the generational gap widens not so much connection with players however the STAR on Silver I will always romanticize.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the error by Randy White around the 41:30 mark. Franco scored a TD midway thru the 4th quarter shortly after the controversial PI on Benny Barnes. During the ensuing kickoff White fumbled the ball. The next play Bradshaw hit Swann in the back of the end zone for the score that provided the final margin of victory.
You're absolutely right. The Harris run was right before the fumbled return, and was only twenty-something yards. Considering Pittsburgh scored two touchdowns in a three play sequence, I don't really blame Randy for being a little dazed though. -.-
There is a sequence of three or four plays in the third which doomed us. We were out playing them, they hadn't gained many yards in the second half and the call, the drop and the fumble as well as the ref blocking Charlie on the Franco run all work against us.

Doomsday had a great mentality. That's what all the greats had in both offense and defense had. That's a reason all the great players in NFL history are in the Hall of Fame, mentality. The mentality of the players of today is still there, it's just the NFL seems to be trying to mask it the best way they can.

I was fortunate to have met Randy White, and Bob Lilly and have my Pro Football Hall of Fame football signed by both. I also was at a autograph show where Ernie Stautner was signing and didn't want to spend the extra few dollars to get him to sign that football. I have truly regretted that since.

For example, Hall of Fame RT Rayfield Wright suffered a knee injury prior to the 77 season, but Pat Donavan filled in beautifully for Wright. Thomas Henderson did the same on the defensive side of the ball, turning the Cowboy's LB corps from an aging/slow group to a young/fast group of linebackers.

How come Bob Hats is never remembered? He was a great receiver and the fastest man alive in his TIME !!! I got to meet Bob Hats in prison back in the late 70s. Well I saw him in the chow hall at the Coffield Unit . Of course we weren't allowed to talk in Chow Hall back in those days in prison... But anyway you guys never bring him up. "WHY???"
I loved them so much, I never saw the decline as it was happening. I saw them slowly retire and replace superb players with lesser players, but the uniform and the Stars n the helmet kept me mesmerized and thinking we were ALWAYS just barely out of it. I made every excuse there was. I rationalized but realized the front office was no longer finding and coming up with phenomenal performers. The FLEX got old and predictable. I saw it, but wouldn't admit it. I never accepted the actual slow decline until they unceremoniously fired and retired the GREAT Tom Landry. If you were fortunate to have witnessed the Doomsday II Defense of 70s you would have known Thomas Henderson really was destined to be a HOFer. He was so talented that he literally changed the game. A few years later the Giants would draft a guy named Lawrence Taylor who was a carbon copy of Thomas even down to wearing #56. That's the impact Thomas Henderson really had.

The 77 team was was and is still my favorite Cowboys team. They were dominate in every phase of the game.

T.D. ( Tony Dorsett) is my favorite running back. He could break one on any given play. And he was the first running back to run for a 99 yard touchdown. A record that can never be broken unless the field becomes longer.
I remember that play well. I was already in bed, my my dad woke up my brothers me to watch the replays.
A great player ,and a class act.
The best year of any football player ever. 1976 -Heisman and National champion. 1977 -Rookie of the year and scored TD in Superbowl win.

Those Cowboys were so good that even as a Steelers fan in W.PA I respected the Cowboys, enjoyed watching them play & wouldn’t have minded if they won. Tony Dorsett of course was a W.PA hero too. Cowboys were a dynasty in their own right.

The first game I ever saw on tv was the Ice Bowl, the 1967 NFL Championship game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. I had just turned 9 years old. I saw the star on the Cowboys helmet and I was instantly hooked. To me, the glory years for Dallas were from the mid sixties until the final NFC Championship game appearance in the early eighties.
The early to mid nineties brought three titles in a four year span but was not the same.
The Cowboys started and ended with one man: Coach Tom Landry.

@@davidcook680 The mid sixties to the 1978 Super Bowl team (a 35-31 loss to the Steelers in Jan of 1979 in the Orange Bowl) was definitely my favorite time. Consistent excellence by Dallas. Five Super Bowl appearances in the 70s, the most by any team.
Keep an eye out come Super Bowl time. Chuck Howley is a Senior Committee nominee for the Hall of Fame. He is 86 and suffering from Alzheimer's. I sure hope he gets in.
He had two excellent Super Bowls, V vs the Baltimore Colts and VI vs the Miami Dolphins.
He remains the only player from a losing team to win MVP honors in a Super Bowl game. That was in Super Bowl V.
Super Bowl 13 was devastating for the team and myself personally even though I have no affiliation I still think and wish that turned out different to this day as the Cowboys would have been the first to win three Super Bowls and then known as the team of the 70s... only thing I could think of changing NFL history moreso or a harder pill to swallow would have been the 2007 Patriots unbeaten team losing to a big Underdog in the New York Giants in the Super Bowl.

Had Roger stayed, we may have won another title or two as I know we win one or two of those NFC Championship games. Danny White was better than he ever gets credit for, however, he had a knack for throwing crucial interceptions and mainly for NOT being Roger the Dodger. I think had Roger played until 84 we at the LEAST win one more title if not 2 or 3.
You are a homer....love ur passion. Roger had concussions. No way he could play into his 40's. By 1984 he would have been 42. Maybe 1 more Super Bowl had he stayed. He was my favorite player. Made 100 greatest. Betr man than player. True Christian.

That 1980 Eagle team that made he Superbowl was good. But, I think Dallas wins the NFC title game if Roger had stayed one more season. I think Dallas would have also beat the 1980 Raiders that represented the AFC with Staubach at the helm. The 1983 Raiders were one of the all-time great teams, but that 1980 squad was the weakest Oakland squad to ever make a Super Bowl appearance in my opinion.

I was born in 1971 and started watching football in Tony Dorsett’s rookie year. The impact he made on me can’t be overstated. Watching him run/glide up the middle was like poetry in motion. Yeah, I loved to see Tony Hill make an over the shoulder long catch, but that 33 up the middle still is the most excited I’ve ever been watching any athlete. When I did start playing football around 1979, it was just by chance that I got assigned number 33. I Still remember one of my teammates’ mom tossing me my gold jersey with green numbers and me just busting at the seams when I held it up and saw 33 with my name over it. To this day, 33 makes its way into my everyday life as any password I create always has 33 in it.
Roger Staubach is the only autograph i have ever gotten from a famous person. I have met MANY famous people. He was the only one i cared to get. Love Rodger the Dodger!!

Awesome video! I grew up on the Cowboys and I loved them as much as I did my own family. I would be very nervous before & during the game and if when they won I would have way too much energy and when they lost everyone knew to leave me alone for about a week. No one knows this but when we lost the 2 Super Bowls to the Steelers I went to my room and cried like a babyeach time. I never missed a second of there games and when they were on I could be found right in front of the TV with my football. My dad would constantly be yelling me to move out of the way so he could see the game and also for me throwing my football in the air during every play. I was just trying to help them win!
My brother and myself were devastated when Staubach retired. We were in our teens, it made no sense. When the issue of CTE came about it became clear. Roger suffered numerous concussions, and had the sense to get out while he could. As far as former players from any team, he is worth the most $400M. He made the right choice.
I was born in '67 so I was a kid during the great teams of the 70's. I'm a Texan so I loved the Cowboy's. I'm not sure which SB it was but I remember watching some pregame coverage and there was a segment titled The Cliff and Charlie Show. Does anyone else remember it ? If I had to guess it probably was one of the Pittsburgh v Dallas SB's but I can't be totally sure.
the 70's was the best in good teams, dolphins, steelers, raiders, broncos.cowboys, redskins, vikings teams that were good during the 70's. and there a couple more that were competitive.

Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry, both were the coordinators with the Giants during the years that they were winning championships, Landry was the defensive specialist one of the best in the games history.

As a Cowboys fan, I always found it very interesting about the historical significance between Super Bowl V (1970 season and Super Bowl XII (1977 season).
Craig Morton was the Cowboys starting QB for Super Bowl V, and it still is the only Super Bowl in which the MVP was named from the losing team (Cowboys, Doomsday I, Chuck Howley).
Ironically, Craig Morton ended up being the starting QB for the Cowboys' opponent in Super Bowl XII, and it is still the only Super Bowl to have co-MVPs (Cowboys, Doomsday ll, Harvey Martin and Randy White).

The 1977 Dallas Cowboys are clearly THE most underrated team in NFL history. They were the last team to lead the league in total offense AND defense as Doomsday II racked up 53 sacks in a 14 game schedule. This squad then went on to dominate the post-season by outscoring their opponents 87-23. One could argue that in the first 12 years of the Super Bowl Era, the 1977 Cowboys were the greatest NFL team of all-time.

True, but that was the Cowboys last loss of the 1977 season, and they went on to beat the Broncos in the last game of the regular season AND in Super Bowl 12. This was the same Broncos team that defeated the Steelers 34-21 in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.
Not even close - the 1972 Dolphins were better in every retrospect. They led the league in total offense and defense as well as most points scored and fewest points allowed. People can criticize their schedule all they want but look at it this way. When the 1972 season started, K.C., Min., and Bal x2, was a brutal schedule to have to face if you base it off their 1971 performance. Their schedule was soft which means they should win every game......and they did. What makes it worse, their 1973 team was even more devastating despite not leading on all categories. The 1977 Cowboys were not underrated. Everyone had them for the NFC that year since Minnesota was getting older and Los Angeles was in transition with Joe Namath. Most pegged Pittsburgh or Oakland initially but Pittsburgh's off season issues doomed them and Oakland wasn't bad, just Denver came along and didn't give up any points. Dallas was expected to win the NFC and when it was found to be Denver, no one gave the Broncos a chance to win.

Ed “To Tall” Jones should be in the Hall of Fame. The only good part about the NFL not paying generational wealth to players in the 1970s was that it allowed players like Henderson to step away to pursue dreams & then come back. Hollywood Henderson was a beast of an athlete & entertaining too.

In addition to Harvey Martin and Randy White, there is no question that Ed “Too Tall” Jones and Randy Hughes could have gotten a share of the MVP award in Super Bowl XII.
Interesting fact about the decline of Doomsday II. Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters never played a regular or postseason game together after SB XIII. Waters missed the entire 79 season with a knee injury and the Harris retired after the 1979 season.

Rolando as a young fan (fan of 50 years ) I connected to the players as if there was a personal connection with the players .. As of late I did/have with Dware, Jwit and #9.. As I get older and the generational gap widens not so much connection with players however the STAR on Silver I will always romanticize.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the error by Randy White around the 41:30 mark. Franco scored a TD midway thru the 4th quarter shortly after the controversial PI on Benny Barnes. During the ensuing kickoff White fumbled the ball. The next play Bradshaw hit Swann in the back of the end zone for the score that provided the final margin of victory.

There is a sequence of three or four plays in the third which doomed us. We were out playing them, they hadn't gained many yards in the second half and the call, the drop and the fumble as well as the ref blocking Charlie on the Franco run all work against us.

Doomsday had a great mentality. That's what all the greats had in both offense and defense had. That's a reason all the great players in NFL history are in the Hall of Fame, mentality. The mentality of the players of today is still there, it's just the NFL seems to be trying to mask it the best way they can.

I was fortunate to have met Randy White, and Bob Lilly and have my Pro Football Hall of Fame football signed by both. I also was at a autograph show where Ernie Stautner was signing and didn't want to spend the extra few dollars to get him to sign that football. I have truly regretted that since.

Herb Aderly came to the Cowboys from the Packers in 1970 and Lance Alworth came to the Cowboys from the Chargers in 1971 to help Dallas win Super Bowl 6 over the Miami Dolphins in the 1971-72 season. Tom Landry also had some truly great assistant coaches in the 1970s; Erie Stautner, Dan Reeves, Mike Ditka and Gene Stallings.

For example, Hall of Fame RT Rayfield Wright suffered a knee injury prior to the 77 season, but Pat Donavan filled in beautifully for Wright. Thomas Henderson did the same on the defensive side of the ball, turning the Cowboy's LB corps from an aging/slow group to a young/fast group of linebackers.

Every man in the video are HOF to me.....ring of honor as well. Waters, DD Lewis played in all 5 superbowls under Landry. Breunig Hegman, Henderson Randy and Too tall 3 or 4. Martin as well. Cliff Harris there as well. Rayfield Wright, Cliff Harris, Roger Staubach, Randy White, Mel Renfro, Tony Dorsett and Drew Pearson all got Gold Jackets from those years. Other ones that should at least been ring of honor include all of them plus Danny White, Tom Rafferty, Ralph Neely, Robert Newhouse, Billy Joe DuPree, Pat Donovan, Preston Pearson, Golden Richards, Jethro Pugh, Randy Hughes, and John Fitzgerald. Dallas 77 might be the best team ever in the history of the NFL!

I loved them so much, I never saw the decline as it was happening. I saw them slowly retire and replace superb players with lesser players, but the uniform and the Stars n the helmet kept me mesmerized and thinking we were ALWAYS just barely out of it. I made every excuse there was. I rationalized but realized the front office was no longer finding and coming up with phenomenal performers. The FLEX got old and predictable. I saw it, but wouldn't admit it. I never accepted the actual slow decline until they unceremoniously fired and retired the GREAT Tom Landry. If you were fortunate to have witnessed the Doomsday II Defense of 70s you would have known Thomas Henderson really was destined to be a HOFer. He was so talented that he literally changed the game. A few years later the Giants would draft a guy named Lawrence Taylor who was a carbon copy of Thomas even down to wearing #56. That's the impact Thomas Henderson really had.
