I have used a dual SIM iPhone for two years and have loved it! I am seamlessly able to switch between my Work and Personal phone lines. Even though my Work line is through AT&T, and my Personal line is through Verizon, the iPhone has been able to handle phone call and text messages from both lines. It has worked great!

I think Apple’s implementation of the dual sim is the best I’ve experienced. I have an iPhone XR and a OnePlus 7 Pro with dual physical sim. I prefer the way the iPhone works through the eSIM due to the cellular switching while on a call. You don’t get that option with the OnePlus, you do get a toggle to switch data cards, but not while I’m on a call. With the OnePlus you don’t get voice and data if you’re calling from the SIM card that’s set to calls and texts, which is a bummer. I hope more oems take notes from Apple and implement this to their devices. Awesome video!!

After seeing all the settings and setup needed and the issues in all the comments to run dual sims, I'll just keep my Sideline app. For $70 a year I have a fully integrated second line that functions exactly as the native phone app piggy backing on my carriers plan. You can take calls from lock screen. Tells you it's a Sideline call coming in and you can have a different ring tone to alert you it's a business call. The exception is that calls and text and voicemail are on the one app, which is actually great for my business use because all my interaction with that client is organized in one thread.

    • @Devin_Schwartz
      @Devin_Schwartz Год назад

@@Devin_Schwartz I do. It’s been my business line for many years now. I really like that calls and text are in one app so I can keep track of my contacts with clients. Recently they have had some outages and hiccups and it can be frustrating , all carriers can, but they fix it. It’s still a bargain over adding another att e sim line on my iPhone.

one huge benefit in my mind with the esim is added security. i have esim only. this means if someone steals my phone they cannot prevent network access by ejecting the sim.
also when i travel os i can drop in a 2nd sim easily without risk of losing the other sim or losing whatever os connection options my home carrier offers.

I use this facility on my iPhone XS when I'm travelling in Asia. Roaming costs in Asia on a UK network (I live in the UK) are very high, as are call & SMS costs - they won't be included in your allowance. I used to just get a local SIM (e.g. in Singapore or Dubai), take out my UK SIM, and then get messages to my family, etc, giving them my new, local number. With the new system I'm got my regular UK line set up with the e-sim so when I'm travelling I just add a local physical SIM (not many networks are able to provide e-sim functionality in some of these countries), and set the local number as my primary line for calls, messaging and data. The important thing is that my family, etc, are able to call me on my regular number and don't need to add a new, temporary number.
I set up the e-sim pretty much as soon as I was able, and the biggest problem was the fact that my UK network provider's local staff weren't at all familiar with it. indeed, mine may have been the first such setup done at that particular store.

Thanks Tom. This is what I am looking at doing, do you know if it's possible to leave the e sim which is my Australian number on plane mode, whilst using my Thai sim in Asia? Or is it easier to just to switch sims in the settings. Any charges that I get from my Australian carrier whilst overseas are huge, so I want to avoid them if possible.
Basically what I am asking is, is it possible to have the e sim on plane mode but the physical sim active.

Only complaint: Still (four years later) there's no option to assign a different ringtone for each line only on a contact-by-contact basis, which does no good for new callers. At least you can see which line they are calling by the little tiny boxed letter atop (P or B, etc.) but I wanted different ringtone, textone and voicemail with my second business line so I can tell without looking which line is ringing.
Still going to hold on to my Sideline app, which gives me all those features (+ the second line itself) for just over $8/mo vs. paying for a second line. There are very few glitches after using it for three years. Some things may be better with a built-in second line of course, but other things like dedicate ring & text tones without switching numbers or settings are really nice features and not available even if you do pay more for a second eSIM line.

ATT is a PIA for esim! There excuse is security for making us hard to use. And they want to charge $5 per esim if you switch phones. I don’t know why we can’t just verify something and generate a QR code.

Great review of a little known feature that appears(based on your review) to have been well thought out by Apple. Of course, if they really promoted this, it would reduce the need for people to carry 2 phones and thus their handset sales would be less!

Also found I had issues with calls not transmitting the voice when I answered, or vice versa not being able to hear the person on the other side. Aldo had issue with continuity on MBP when trying to answer calls on Mac. Do you have any experience with this?

      roccow76,
      HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS:
If someone calls your primary number, your digital display will show a “P” which indicates that your caller is calling you on your primary number.
If someone is calling your secondary (aka “Business”) number, your digital display will show a “B” which indicates that your caller is calling you on your secondary or “business” line.
      It works great!!!
BONUS: I don’t know how other carriers handle dual SIMs but at AT&T, they allowed me to name each line for Caller ID purposes. I named my personal line “Vince G” and my business line “Victory”. If you’re on AT&T, you’ll be able to do the same.
      Good luck!!!

Hello, Have you tested how this works with a in-app call? Many apps business app now allow to make calls from within the app. Air BnB for example. If a user has a second phone to manage their Air BnB business, this would be great if you could select which line it uses. On the Samsung when making a call a setting option is to prompt which line to use.
