The latest iPhones in Europe still have sim slots, and with good reason, you have wider choice of competitive cell companies, most much cheaper than the limited number of plans offered, I noticed only one plan offered in Italy, and Italy has 6 or more cell companies. Also iPhones sold in Europe use USB-pots which allow for cheaper external storage, rather than expensive internal storage. Cell plans in Europe are much cheaper too, 30-35 euros a month average vs 65-75 dollars a month average in the U.S. Presently the dollar and the euro are equal in value.
A few corrections: iPhones in Europe do NOT have USB ports or any other way to use external storage. Cost of ‘plans’ (do you mean contracts or prepaid deals?) varies enormously between countries. This is all great and your video is very effective but about the 8 minute mark you touch on a hurdle that I was unable to get past - the "other settings" in my Samsung 21. I could never get the APN settings correct. The user guide was written by someone who assumed the user would have no difficulty jumping from screen to screen without images to keep you on track. In the end I never could get it to work. If they had voice support, or remote desktop access where they could set it up from their end, I have no doubt it would have been up and running in less than a minute. I don't get why the self install of the esim (yes, I scanned to QR code) didn't just complete the process instead of getting you 90% of the way. In the end my trip was great anyway with plenty of public WiFi, but had I needed data for directions while driving, I'd have been screwed. Plus as it was for European markets and I was in the US, there was no way to confirm it was going to work when I got there and it didn't! This was especially annoying as I could see that the eSIM had 5 bars of signal strength the entire time I was in Germany and Austria.
I was wondering teh same thing. The issue is not just with this company, but all eSim companies; not knowing if it will work until you are actually there. Also, not being able to use for calls is a problem.
When you activate the new eSIM, if it has a number (not data-only) it will work either in tandem (both numbers) or one or the other, depending on the settings. But if you're asking if adding an eSIM will affect your current SIM, no it will not.
Thanks for the video, very informative. Would like to let you know that by end of this month e-sim will be available in Nepal too 🙂. Thanks for your visit.

@@foXnoMad I think David was asking a yes or no question lol. I was also wondering if I could use WhatsApp using the esim? But great video brother, thanks
The talk and text options depend on the local carriers, if they provide it, and in many countries the operators who license out their lines don't permit it.
This is not the case - although I can see why there's some confusion. eSIMs can be talk and data or one or the other - it really depends on the carrier and what they offer.
Sounds complicated (technical). Plus, what I need, because I am going to Japan, is voice, you know a real telephone? Japan has very strict rules, basically forbidding tourists making calls using anything but the most expensive plans by one company (Mobal). In other words eSIMs don't solve the problems in some strict countries. What I really like to know is whether eSIMS solve the problem of the other country in my travels that is a major headache - India. Geez, the grief of impractical rules there, in this case government rather than corporate. Yes, I know there is a risk of jihadis using cell phones, but at what cost to hobbling the entire telecommunications industry? A policeman must visit the hotel, you have to change SIMS every state. Or was this just in 2017?
In India it can be cumbersome but getting easier. Using some VoIP though you can get around some of the headaches when making calls with a data-only eSIM.
Great presentation. I have an iPhone 13 mini. I have used Airalo app this year on my trip to the US and was very satisfied. But I had no physical sim in that phone. Are you sure I can use both eSim and my original physical sim on that iPhone while abroad? Just to monitor (i.e. not respond to) incoming calls/texts from my home country. thank you
@@frenchustube I did not use anything this time. I was extremely disappointed. After landing in the US Airalo was unable to activate my data credit and repeatedly answered with some error message (I don't remember the error number) that I later found out was quite frequent, many people encountered it and no support/fix was offered. So, unless Airalo apologises to me and returns my credit I do not intend to use it again.

@@foXnoMad my situation… I’m going to upgrade my unlocked xsmax 512 Gb ( 5 year old phone, no issues over the year just two battery replacements from Apple ) from Verizon to T-Mobile because they’re giving me $800 trade in (over 24 months) , since I travel a couple of times a year overseas to Asia , how easy is it up add an esim from local vendors if we don’t want to pay long distance roaming nor airalo ( they don’t always have the best local providers). I’m considering buying a second hand certified refurbished unlocked iphone 11 from Apple but really don’t want to spend that money for me and my wife. There’s also the locked phone issue with T-Mobile because they won’t unlock it since it’s a 24 monthly payment contract and the $800 trade in is tied to that.( not an esim issue but needed to be noted). Anyway, you have a new subscriber… just having thoughts that maybe RUclipsrs like you should do esim updates because… it’s an issue that needs revisiting?
The QR code is a pain if you are travelling without a computer or other device. Has to screen capture the QR code and then send it to a friend’s phone and then scan. Phones need the ability now to scan a QR code without having to use a secondary device.
In some ways this change is as inconvenient as anything new. But now, all the carriers will be forced to add esim capability…. Not unlike how removing the phone jack forced the issue of wireless headphones.
@@foXnoMad In my case, I had been hearing about new phones with dual sims…. And thought that would be great for traveling…. No exchanging sims and keeping track of unused sims. I was wondering teh same thing. The issue is not just with this company, but all eSim companies; not knowing if it will work until you are actually there. Also, not being able to use for calls is a problem.
Very nicely done!
Thanks!
Thanks for your video
Subscribed. Also a travel fox/nomad cat. How'd you know all this before me? ;) You tried DENT yet? Wonder if GiffGaff UK have switched to eSim.
Does your mobile number change when you use an e-sim
When you activate the new eSIM, if it has a number (not data-only) it will work either in tandem (both numbers) or one or the other, depending on the settings. But if you're asking if adding an eSIM will affect your current SIM, no it will not.
Good work 👏
Just keep going on ....
If you have to go somewhere, there is no better place than the northern areas of Pakistan
You should try Philippines
does someone have an airalo cupom code?
This is clutch for travelers W
Thanks for the video, very informative.
Would like to let you know that by end of this month e-sim will be available in Nepal too 🙂.
Thanks for your visit.
Thanks for the update from Nepal!
You should do a new video on how this will be useful while using an iPhone 14
It will definitely be a part of my review coming up.
Great explanation however this like others seems to push a particular service. Traveling overseas this process isn’t so easy.
Thanks 📱📲
can i receive opt messeage on esim???? anyone guide me please
Does this not block your phone with the laws in Pakistan about not having registered phones? Tax duty etc?
Those restrictions don't seem to apply. Keep in mind though right now you can only get a data plan - no actual number using an eSim in Pakistan.
Hi Hannah. Airalo eSIMs have coverage in Paskitan. You can find additional information about eSIMs for Pakistan and get one just by going to www.airalo.com/pakistan or by downloading our app from App Store or Play Store :)
@@foXnoMad so if you don’t get a number assigned, can you run an app like WhatsApp which is number based.
@@davidmacomber1614 Exactly.
@@foXnoMad I think David was asking a yes or no question lol. I was also wondering if I could use WhatsApp using the esim? But great video brother, thanks
Yes, just saw the prices and are very expensive.
What about talk and text? The Airalo plans are data only.
The talk and text options depend on the local carriers, if they provide it, and in many countries the operators who license out their lines don't permit it.
Indian Jio Or Airtel Esim Working in Pakistan without roaming ?
A regular SIM card gives both data AND talk while eSIM gives you data only. Why?
3:59 So it's possible to have 4 esim on one phone ?
It depends on the phone but generally you can store multiple eSims but only use one at a time.
@@foXnoMad only use one at a time, but you can also have your home sim working you said as secondary, if you want to be able to receive calls?
Great presentation. I have an iPhone 13 mini. I have used Airalo app this year on my trip to the US and was very satisfied. But I had no physical sim in that phone.
Are you sure I can use both eSim and my original physical sim on that iPhone while abroad? Just to monitor (i.e. not respond to) incoming calls/texts from my home country. thank you
You should be able to use dual SIM /eSIM in that situation and you can turn them on and off as you like. Glad my video was helpful!
@@foXnoMad thank you so much for your fast response
Did you use data only or did you use cellular as well?
@@frenchustube I did not use anything this time. I was extremely disappointed. After landing in the US Airalo was unable to activate my data credit and repeatedly answered with some error message (I don't remember the error number) that I later found out was quite frequent, many people encountered it and no support/fix was offered. So, unless Airalo apologises to me and returns my credit I do not intend to use it again.
I use (gigsky) esim in cuba and it works great and you can use your own cell #
Coming 5 days from iphone 14 ( all US models ) announcement of no more sim cards and going ALL esim, this was useful, ….
But maybe we need an update. ? This is gonna get costly on top of new iphones being locked into US carrriers… solution please 🙏
Any specific questions you have? Let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.
@@foXnoMad my situation… I’m going to upgrade my unlocked xsmax 512 Gb ( 5 year old phone, no issues over the year just two battery replacements from Apple ) from Verizon to T-Mobile because they’re giving me $800 trade in (over 24 months) ,
since I travel a couple of times a year overseas to Asia , how easy is it up add an esim from local vendors if we don’t want to pay long distance roaming nor airalo ( they don’t always have the best local providers).
Thanks for the questions and the sub! I'll do my best to answer these questions for you as soon as possible. Keep an eye on this channel 👀
eSIMs available in Nepal since September 2022
Very helpful video, thank you.
The QR code is a pain if you are travelling without a computer or other device.
Has to screen capture the QR code and then send it to a friend’s phone and then scan. Phones need the ability now to scan a QR code without having to use a secondary device.
Does my cell have to be unlocked
Yes, it must be carrier unlocked.
@@foXnoMad thanks
well i just downloaded the app but they say the S21 does not take Esim's :( boooo
When there is a 10GB card that you don't see
If one travels a lot to different continents, the e-Sim only phone is NOT the way to go in 2022. Apple put the cart b4 the horse.
It's a shame that airalo doesn't use AIS in Thailand.
In some ways this change is as inconvenient as anything new. But now, all the carriers will be forced to add esim capability…. Not unlike how removing the phone jack forced the issue of wireless headphones.
True and having used eSIMs for years now, I find it more convenient for the most part than physical SIM cards.
@@foXnoMad
In my case, I had been hearing about new phones with dual sims…. And thought that would be great for traveling…. No exchanging sims and keeping track of unused sims. So, when I finally got a dual sim phone…. I was looking forward to loading up an esim from my carrier (xfinity). I was shocked when they said. “We do not support esim functionality!” Now, my wife got a new iPhone…. Which only has esim…. And presto, just a few months later and now xfinity supports esim
I'm not surprised - Apple's got a lot of influence in the market, eSIMs are about to become a lot more common, quickly.
As a nomad, I find e sim is unsupported in many countries. Adaption will take a few years
