My Lexy boy was a border collie X and when I called his name, he would instant stop, look at me intently with ears raised, when I said I love you, his whole face and body changed and he smiled. The last two years of his life he was blind with cataracts, when he found me in another room, or heard my voice etc he would smile. I miss him very much. Love your channel.
hi there. we met Starbuck at a training school years ago. we also took our swedish vallhund Luna to the course but we only went to the first class. good to see Starbuck is doing well and looking cute!
Thank you so much! Yes, he is a Vallhund. Very few people guess that right 🐕 Oh wow! I have met one Norwegian Elkhound (at a Vallhund meetup) and they are so gorgeous! How did you come to adopt one, do you live in a Scandinavian country? They are so rare outside of there!
@@FurPalsFirst I live in Georgia (southeast USA, not the former Soviet region). Our family had some pit-shepherd mixes for several years, and when it became apparent that the last of our pack was on her way out, my Mom began scouting a pet shop specializing in overpriced "designer" dogs. They happened to have a few of pure-bred dogs, but this little silver-grey pup attached herself to my Mom and that was it. Grey picked my Mom out. Grey was incredibly devoted and an absolute joy to be around. After her day, Mom swore never to get another dog. By this time my Dad (himself a dog-lover) had passed and my Mom was slowing down a lot due to a series of mini-strokes, it was just too quiet without a canine companion, and I judged that Mom needed another dog. I met a breeder at a dog show, she had several dogs at that show finishing championships, and she screened me and my Mom (who was still saying "No more dogs"), and made arrangements for us to visit the kennel the next weekend. She had a three-month-old puppy with promise in the conformation department, but the pup didn't behave well in training, would have been much better as a family pet, and she bonded immediately to my Mom as well. Moose's temperament was almist exactly like Grey's and she was with us for almost fifteen years. By this time my Mom was increasingly dependent on caregivers, and I contacted the same breeder who didn't have any puppies (I didn't think a puppy would have been a good fit anyhow), but she had two adults retired from the show ring and the breeding program. Once again it was the female that chose my Mom, climbing into her lap in the wheelchair, ut to get things to work with my "no more dogs" Mom, I had to return the 120-mile round trip to the kennel to pick the dog up the next weekend. Aani immediately trotted to my Mom's room and climbed into the bed just as Moose and Grey had beforehand. Aani's last visit with Mom was at the hospice the night before Mom died, and Aani later saw me through advenures in major medical as well. I had Aani (by this time almost eleven years old) at the kennel to board a few days, and when I went to pick her up the breeder had Aani in the whelping room assisting a young bitch with her first litter ("midwoof"). Every time subsequently that I boarded Aani, she would be in the kitchen with this silly little male puppy (I had been there when he was born), and on puppy's fourth-month birthday, he came home with Aani and me. Aani is gone now (outlived the vet's death sentences for three different cancers, finally succumbed to kidney failure and doggie dementia), but buddy-boy Baldurdash! (Baldur from the Norse god of light, beauty, and dental hygiene, dash! added when the breeder scoffed at my chosen name) is happy, heathe, just past eight years old, and crunching on a raw beef leg-bone as I write this. He's a great buddy and the best heating pad my old joints have ever known. As for gorgeous, yeah, they know.
Haha, believe it or not, I made it myself because I couldn't find anything like it and I really wanted it. It is so nice to hear that you like it, thank you! 🐕
Helpful video! Reinforced a number of things - thank you. Another couple to the list could be lip licking and yawning. These are often misunderstood. On the panting sign, I used to have an Aussie shepherd girl who’d be chilling or snoozing on their bed or the couch after dinner, and at some point would stir and start panting. No signs of stress or anxiety. It happened almost every night a couple of hours after dinner. I now have a female whippet who does the same thing. Any ideas what is going on??
Thank you! And interesting question. Obviously you know your environment best. But off the top of my head, some reasons might be: 1) Could something be irritating her sinuses? 2) Is the room warm/hot? The fact that your Aussie & your Whippet have both done it, would make me suspect it is an environmental cause. Unless you raised your Whippet with your Aussie. She might've taught her to do it through observation!
It is true, haha. If Starbuck isn't tilting his head at me and is just doing it... it's usually because he's trying to figure out where a sound is coming from!
I am sorry but I just don't agree with that. I treat dogs like how I would like to be treated. And that is how they treat us. They are so loving, and self-sacrificing. I think they deserve to be treated with love and care, like we would treat our child!

Those Oathsworn and Frosthaven boxes, someone likes epic games!
Well done Sarah and Starbuck. I learned a few things about my pup (Sydney) watching this video today. Thanks.
Thank you so much, hello to you and Sydney 👋🐕
Your pal is such a sweetheart! Is he a vallhund?
I have a Norwegian Elkhound and the Scandinavian spitz breeds are the best!
Thank you so much! Yes, he is a Vallhund. Very few people guess that right 🐕

I‘ve watched a few of your videos now… where can I get the dog sweater you‘re wearing!?!?!!!!

Sooooo, how long before you start selling Merch, Ted?
I mostly agree with all of these except the head tilting which I've seen when dogs are trying to resolve the location of a sound.

Don't give a damn about what a dog thinks!

no girly, when somebody squints his eyes at you it means he doesn`t see you well enough...
