    I’ve had this shaggy rug since my dog was a newborn. The 3 of us moved across the country, and whenever we get back from a good walk, he runs to it and digs & rolls on it like it’s some killer patch of grass.

I’m so sure that she, and all other dogs can’t wait until we humans finally get as smart as they are and we can all finally coexist completely peacefully and happily together.

    I went camping with my son and his dog once. When evening came after an afternoon of hiking and meal time with the sun going down, his sweet dog decided it was time to sleep. She began digging a clearing and then a shallow hole to the point of grabbing roots and breaking them off to get them out of the way. It took her a while but then laid down as we entered our tents. My son wanted her to be inside the tent so that's where she went after all her efforts. She had never done this before or after, just this one time.

    One of the biggest misunderstandings about dogs is that their nature is very different to wild canines. Unnatural selection isn't as powerful as we think, and its often better to think of our pets as mini wolves.

    I had a gap under the fence that my neighbor's terrier sized dog would stick his head under and bark at us like the little shit it was. It annoyed the hell out of my female rottweiler but it would always pop back out when she ran toward it.
    One day the little dog was being a dick as usual but this time it came all the way through. I don't think he realized that while continuing to stand there and bark, just before my dog grabbed his neck and started shaking it, but not in a "yay toy" kind of way; She was thrashing the living shit out of this little dog and growling the entire time to let it know it earned this.
    I was already envisioning them euthanizing her for killing it before I could reach her. I was going to literally cover up the murder and bury it in my back yard. When I grabbed her collar and yelled for her to stop, she dropped him and to my relief the little asshole was still alive. She didn't even bite down all the way. Other than probably being dizzy and freaked out, it seemed fine as it scurried back under the fence.
    It never stuck it's head through our side again.

    I have a theory that both cats and dogs follow us to the bathroom because in nature that would be a vulnerable time for one of their pack or pride and so they would stand guard. I say this because i am a painter and well....I often have to use the bushes and have had both the cats and dogs of clients come and "post up" while I go . And no....not number 2. Dogs make their bed to sleep comfortable. Often, you can see them cirkeling around before laying down. Many animals do this to stomp down and flatten tall grass.
    In hot weather, dogs will sometimes dig a small pit or just scratch up some bare earth and lay down on it with their belly touching the ground. The moist soil below the grass will help them cool down, almost like you put a wet towel on your forehead when you have a fever.

    As someone who has been around dogs most of my life it's nice to find out a couple of things I never realized before and reinforced others I've thought about. When it comes to dogs and the bathroom, most dogs will come right in if allowed and stand guard until you're done doing whatever you're doing!
    I haven't had a dog in a while due to losing one of my 4 Great Danes, 4 years in a row. That was extremely difficult but being fifteen years ago, I'm ready to jump back in again, even though my wife is opposed to the idea. I'm going to bring a Staffy puppy home one of tge3se days and while she'll be mad at me for a while, she'll love the puppy!
    One thing I'm absolutely death on, however, is docking a puppies tail (cropping ears is a relatively close second. I don't have my male Dane's ears cropped and he had one ear infection after the other!). Since dogs use their tails for communication so much, I think depriving them of that appendage is a crime! I really wish people would stop doing it and don't understand at all why it's done in the first place! Oh well, it's good I'm not king of the world I guess!
    Cheers,
    jc

    • @FurPalsFirst
      @FurPalsFirst  Год назад +1

      Haha I'm sure she'll absolutely love the puppy! And yes, totally agree with the docking. It's illegal to dock a dog's tail here in New Zealand. Starbuck doesn't have a tail but that is because about 50% of the Swedish Vallhunds here in New Zealand have a genetic mutation that means they are either born without a tail, or have a stub for a tail. Some of Starbuck's siblings have beautiful wolf-like tails. Whereas he was born with absolutely nothing, not even a little stub, lol 🐕

      I would ad intentionally breeding dogs to have a under bite to your list. It makes things like eating and defending themselves difficult. If a human is born with a under bite they fix it before the child leaves the hospital.

I still miss her.

    I love dogs so much. I enjoy your videos. We dog lovers need to support each other. My dogs do nearly all although neither blinks much. Miley, our Chihuahua-Dachshund licks incessantly. She licks fabric, her paws, or just lick the air. I always give my dogs some old clothes of mine when I have to leave them for a while. They immediately put them to use. We have a 6-month old Shorkie puppy named Maxi. He may weigh only 5 pounds (2.25kg), but he has the most personality I've ever seen packed into a puppy. They really enhance our lives, and we enhance theirs. Both of mine are rescues.

    Of course your dog is board. If they spend 23hrs out of their day sleep then that means you’re not doing anything with them. I think we ‘think’ dogs sleep so much because of the lifestyle they hold with humans if you were stuck inside of a house with absolutely nothing to do everyday you’d sleep a lot also. I bet dogs that have free will over their lives will do so less (probably)

    • @FurPalsFirst
      @FurPalsFirst  Год назад +1

      I'm not sure if this was aimed directly at me or in-general. But Starbuck is definitely not bored, and doesn't spend 23 hours a day sleeping, haha. He is busy and only naps, snoozes & rests the average amount per day for a dog. In fact, because he is so busy throughout the day, by 7pmish he is usually out cold and sleeps until the morning. He usually chooses for himself a very early bedtime compared to most dogs I know, to make up for his lack of sleep throughout the day, due to being busy.

    • @fro2905
      @fro2905 Год назад

      @@FurPalsFirst no of course not aimed at you particularly. I’m just speaking on our culture & what we’ve turned our animals companions in to. We affect their culture tremendously & then base their lives off of what we observe when in actuality they could be much more active throughout the day if we were more active with them. They spend their lives living in a huge box with very little interactivity. We have phones, tvs, food, socialization, work, etc. They have a box we call a house, us & when we’re not there to engage with them they have nothing. That’s a hard pill for me to swallow sometimes. It would be much different if they were on their own & had their own culture to tend with.

      Dachshunds love to do this. They have been bred to hunt for animals that tunnel and bury underground, like badgers, foxes, rabbits and rats.
      Breeders have selected for dogs that have no claustrophobia, and feel comfortable and secure in a confined space. This breeding has been so effective that Dachshunds and other "ground dogs" feel so comfortable, they even prefer to bury themselves rather than sleeping out in the open.
      Dachshunds also love to get in behind the couch cushions and just hang out there, or crawl inside clothing left on the floor.
