I LOVE YOUR videos. Like these have been THE most helpful to me to understand how to feed my dog raw and not get too overwhelmed. My only concern at the moment is that she doesn't like fruits and especially berries at all. They're supposed to be awesome for them, but she'll turn her nose on strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches :/ The only workaround I've found is to cut in smaller pieces and coat them in Yogurt and freeze. But she's a maltese, these pieces are bite-size, so they're tiny, and time consuming. And if the yogurt smells of fruit, she won't eat them. Do you have any recommendations of stuff that'll hide the smell or convince her to eat fruits?
My dog doesn't care for them much either lol. No big deal honestly, they aren't necessary to balance, but you could always try blending them up with the veggie blend if you make one, or just blending them up and freezing them by themselves as a little frozen treat.

My old cat and even my new cat i cold turkey switched and they did fine. Maybe cause they were eating garbage before or maybe theyve got iron stomachs. Either way im lucky
Okay so I raise my own poultry and have processed for my family and my dog gets the organs and heads and feet as treats but when you feed whole raw prey do you have all the intestines and stomach and all that in it still? And they eat all of it?
My dog would eat whole pheasants, feathers and all. Except the gizzard which had gravel and raw grain/beans in it. My cat would eat whole quail, just leaving the gizzard which had gravel in it, and the feet. And the eggshell from the egg that was developing inside the quail (which he ate) They’re generally too much food for a cat for one meal but he was a pig who always tried to eat too much (by stealing others and helping himself to the packets when I was serving). He just about managed a whole quail but was definitely full after that. The dog would eat the quail feet and eggshell, everything except the gizzard. They might have eaten the gizzards if I’d removed the gravel, but I didn’t think to at the time. (Was still squeamish about whole prey - I’m vegan - but I did get desensitised eventually).
Hello! The only canned fish available where I live are in "natural oils" instead of just water:(( if i run it through cold water would it be fine to feed? Also, are there still benefits to feeding white tripe to my dogs as it's more available or is it useless and I should just stick to green tripe? Thank you so much!!
Not sure about the fish thing, but as for the tripe it’s pretty much useless for dogs to eat white tripe because it’s gotten rid of all those stomach nutrients and nasty bits that are good for them haha
Weight bearing bones are big leg bones from large animals such as cows, bison and horses. Which can fracture the teeth. Even wolves usually don’t eat those for that reason. When food supplies are low, and wolves are forced to chew on the leg bones, they too sometimes fracture their teeth. Some say the same applies to hooves from large animals, others say they’re safe. For cats turkey leg bones are too hard, but most won’t bother trying to chew them anyway. They’ll just eat the meat off a turkey drumstick and sometimes nibble the knuckle. Some say knuckle bones from cows/bison/horse are safe, others say they shouldn’t be given either. They’re certainly not as bad as the leg marrow bones which dogs will put in their mouth and try to bite down on. They don’t try to eat the knuckles, just nibble the bits off them, and chew on them for fun.
I have got my kittens to eat cooked chicken and fish slowly over months. But they need some dry or wet food on the side or top to get them started on eating the cooked meat. How to transition from this phase to raw? Transitioning to raw from cooked is taking longer, they are rejecting raw food. Can you suggest something on this?
Looking into raw feeding from the start my next puppy (should come in ~2.5 months). How would you recommend the usage of treats for its training? An idea would be to blend the entire (balanced) meal and then sort of give it small pieces. Wouldn't this food end up being too "mushy" if I wouldn't want to remove the hemoglobin and other juices that come from the food? This is also an inconvenience/dangerous when setting would-be treats in the floor for certain training exercises. What other option would you recommend? I would think cooked meat as treats on top of the raw food, or change to raw food once the puppy is old enough and willing to take play as an alternative reward during training
Buy a food dehydrator. A simple one is a great investment and so easy to prepare. Cut chicken breast (or any other lean protein) into thin strips and dehydrate for 8 hours. Affordable, home made single ingredient treats that last for weeks in the fridge.
Just my experience, but the very first day I added raw chicken breast to my dachshunds dry kibble, she REFUSED to eat any kibble. I had no choice but to make a virtually cold turkey switch since she just wouldn’t eat kibble anymore 😅 the diarrhea storm was very rough for a couple weeks after that

I actually found a raw diet kibble! The brand name is nature’s variety instinct the raw brand and it’s a pure raw diet kibble with no extra ingredients! And they have it for dogs and cats! (Beef version) The ingredients for dogs are: beef, beef liver, pumpkin seeds, beef spleen, carrots, apples, butternut squash, ground flaxseed, dried kelp, broccoli, apple cider vinegar, salmon oil, rosemary extract, blueberries, and dried chicory root. The use monomorillonite clay for shape, mixed tocopherols as a preservative, and freeze dry it. (Rabbit version)For cats the ingredients are: rabbit (including ground rabbit bone), pork, pork liver, pumpkin seeds, carrots, apples, butternut squash, rabbit liver, rabbit kidney, rabbit lung, dried kelp, broccoli, apple cider vinegar, salmon oil, rosemary extract, blueberries, and dried chicory root. The use monomorillonite clay for shape, mixed tocopherols as a preservative, and freeze dry it. And they have plenty of flavors too like beef, rabbit, pork, fish, etc… The point is I think you should definitely try this new stuff because it is amazing! The price for a small bag is about 15 dollars and the price for a large bag is about 30 dollars. .
I have an 9 week old Staffy pup who struggles to finish his meals. Do you feed raw foods in a separate bowl and kibble in a different bowl? My pup doesn't like moist kibble. He does like a little sweet potato and little carrot, not a big fan of rice or zucchini.
It’s not advised to feed kibble at the same meal as raw food. They digest at different rates, and kibble is more likely to cause the deadly disease bloat. If you want to feed cooked food, cooking rice with lentils and vegetables with a lambs kidney or two in the water made it delicious to my dog. Even better if you add a bone to the water as well (but use a bone that the dog shouldn’t have, such as large ox leg bones, or ox hooves, because if it’s an edible bone he’d prefer you give it him raw to chew on. Or buy a lot of chicken feet, give some to him raw and make stock with the rest).
One of my cats just never wanted to eat the raw. Even though he used to get little pieces of liver or meat when he was a kitten, he has now grown out of it I guess. I have tried for 2 years now. I don't think he will even try it as long as he has kibble. My other cat loves raw and is fully switched for a long time now.
I just took small samples of the raw food and just shoved it in my cat's mouth because they were hating it at first too. You just have to be persistent and probably a little more aggressive. When I kept shoving it in their mouth, it gave them an opportunity to chew on it and acquire the taste. They would sit there licking their lips and thinking about it until they decided they liked it. Now they drool for it.
I have a question. Most videos I’ve been watching on the raw diet really pushes poultry for its benefits and price point but my dog developed an allergy to poultry a couple years ago, this could be just to the processed chicken in the food and treats but I want to be careful with poultry until I know for sure. I’m going to try giving him hearts and gizzards as a treat at first to see how he does but until then when making his raw food diet what protein is best as a substitute?? I bought so far steak, ground beef, pork bone neck, the chicken hearts and gizzards, eggs, and sardines. Veggies I got spinach, kale, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower and fruits I got pears, peaches, blueberries and strawberries….This is just to start. If someone can kindly let me know if this is a good start and again what to do about the slow introduction with the poultry and which substitute is best id really appreciate it!!!
Have you ever dealt with eosinophilic granuloma complex with cats? Our Murphy looks like he has it. He’s not even one year old and his allergies are pretty bad. I’m hoping raw food will help.
My dog is unable to eat the recommended amount of bone without throwing up small pieces of it the next morning. I've been giving him smaller amounts only a couple days a week. Hope it's enough.
My dog loved a cooked pot of rice, lentils and vegetables if it was cooked with a lambs kidney or two in the water. Especially if some bone was added to the water as well. I agree raw is better but its more expensive. So I’d give some cooked to the large dogs to fill them up and my cats and smaller dogs sometimes wouldn’t eat what I bought unless I cooked it (lambs kidneys, salmon heads, chicken or Turkey feet).
Nope! Not unless they are a puppy under 15 or so weeks. Puppies this age and under can get intestinal parasites from their mother's milk (very common and normal), so they should be dewormed as directed by your vet.
They can start on raw immediately when weaning. Start with ground up meat but offer meaty bones to chew on as well. Once they’re able to eat the meaty bones you can stop giving the ground up. The big pieces and meaty bones are better for their teeth, they clean the teeth and massage the gums (chewing stimulates bloodflow to the gums which enables the immune system to fight bacteria more effectively). Whereas ground meat sticks to their teeth and doesn’t clean them at all.
I hope you see my comment, because I'm really curious about one disease dogs can get due to raw pork. Here in Germany EVERY book, website, raw feeder and what not tell you to absolutely not feed raw pork and boar because of the Aujeszky's disease (pseudorabies). But I saw that pretty much everybody in the US feeds raw pork, so my question is, if this disease isn't a thing over there? Or is it just really rare? (Hope you are actually from the us lol)
I go over this in a few of my videos! Pseudorabies isn't something people in the US and Canada need to worry about if we are feeding farm raised hogs, however this certainly may be something to be weary of in other countries. I'd contact the supplier of pork in your area and ask if they test for it.
Bit late for me to answer you but for others reading - try increasing the bone ratio or lowering the organs meat and dairy for a while. Feed green tripe which is wonderful for digestion and puréed pumpkin which helps both diarrhoea and constipation.
Damn I just clicked on this cause I feed both my dogs half a pork loin each cause the bag ripped and I didn’t wanna cook it tn I hope the don’t get diarrhea
@@PawsofPrey this is so cool im going to tell all of my friends! they love your vids! and i started raw w/ my dogs and now they are doing it with there cats! this is awesome
I read that if I choose to feed something reproductive, like an egg, it shouldn't be the regular eggs we eat as it can contain chemicals to disinfect and preserve. Is this true and I should feed straight from a farm locally or it doesn't matter and a whole egg with shell from my fridge is perfectly fine? Thanks for you videos!
Don't take my word completely this is just what I know from my experience researching but organic eggs (the brown ones) are always ideal, both for dogs' consumption and ours! but feeding regular white eggs to our dogs shouldn't be a problem. I believe the only problem with it is that the egg shell is essentially stripped of its nutritional value (so no point of adding it). Other people still recommend adding it though as it can serve as a calcium supplement for our dogs. I personally grind up the white egg shells still (but not the whole thing) and sprinkle it on their meals. My dogs are doing great!!
You need transition? My kitty just jumped right into the bowl as long as the meat is freshly slaughtered within a day. She just knows. And never have diarrhea as long as her food is clean and fresh. Guess I have a food critique here 😂
@@PawsofPrey Cool, thanks. I'm thinking of going 70% mucle meat, 10 raw meaty bones 10% secreating organs and 10% veggies... including berries, leafy greens and possible a little cooked corn (like barley or oats). Since apparently game like deer/pheasants might eat corn, meaning that wolves/ancestral dogs might very well have eaten corn too... Does that seem like an ok variation to you? Thanks!
Ok, So i have been trying to find a second secreting organ for months now. No one is selling, just trying to find liver is difficult enough(I live in Norway) So i joined this raw feeding group on FB and they said that just feeding liver is ok if i can't find any other organs. Several people in that group have been feeding just meat, liver and raw meaty bones for several years and not had any problems with their cats health. So I'm really confused because i see so many other places, like here that says i need to add supplements. 🤷🏻♀️
Can you find day old chicks on the internet? Or whole fish? Don’t the butchers sell kidneys for humans? Or whole sheeps head? (I read that’s eaten in Scandinavia around Christmas) you could remove the eyes, brain, tongue and cheeks from that.
It's not just convoluted and overwhelming, it's unsubstantiated.. There are so little evidence proving one or the other, and the few studies that have been made is made by people that have a hand in selling products that would be affected by the results... I'm personally amazed at the fact that we can't even definitively say what is best for our pets, it's quite disturbing, especially for us pet owners that just want the best for our companions.
Ahhhh not rabbit. Please not rabbits. I have a pet rabbit and my doggie and my bunny are the best friends. I don’t think that you should promote something like eating rabbit when they are the 3rd most common pet in the United States!!!!!

Nope! Not unless they are a puppy under 15 or so weeks. Puppies this age and under can get intestinal parasites from their mother's milk (very common and normal), so they should be dewormed as directed by your vet.
I’ve stressed so bad I quit twice!! But my newf both times winds up itching so bad he’s crying. I’m in day 5 and I keep telling myself.. calm down
Why are their no greens and fruits
What age feed raw diet to a puppy
They can start on raw immediately when weaning. Start with ground up meat but offer meaty bones to chew on as well. Once they’re able to eat the meaty bones you can stop giving the ground up. The big pieces and meaty bones are better for their teeth, they clean the teeth and massage the gums (chewing stimulates bloodflow to the gums which enables the immune system to fight bacteria more effectively). Whereas ground meat sticks to their teeth and doesn’t clean them at all.
What if I don’t live around an ethnic market????
It took one of my dogs about two weeks before she decided to touch the raw food. Just took some patience.
Patience is KEY!
I'd contact the supplier of pork in your area and ask if they test for it.
my puppy have been eating raw for about a month now and has on and of diarrhea so if anyone can help please dooo
Bit late for me to answer you but for others reading - try increasing the bone ratio or lowering the organs meat and dairy for a while. Feed green tripe which is wonderful for digestion and puréed pumpkin which helps both diarrhoea and constipation.
Too much bone could be viewed as I deal especially when it comes to their stool
Means every meal they’re having will be raw meat?
Damn I just clicked on this cause I feed both my dogs half a pork loin each cause the bag ripped and I didn’t wanna cook it tn I hope the don’t get diarrhea

i swear she keeps a little baggie with kibble just for the 2 second shots lol
Haha I do.........
@@PawsofPrey OH MY GOD! YOU RESPONDED TO THIS????? UR LIKE MY RAW FEEDING IDOL!!!
@@serenitytew8225 Thank you :')
@@PawsofPrey this is so cool im going to tell all of my friends! they love your vids! and i started raw w/ my dogs and now they are doing it with there cats! this is awesome
@@serenitytew8225 aw yay! That makes me happy to hear ^__^
Guess I have a food critique here 😂
Dont you give any vegetables at all???
Yep, I make a veggie puree and give about a tablespoon or so most meals
@@PawsofPrey Cool, thanks. I'm thinking of going 70% mucle meat, 10 raw meaty bones 10% secreating organs and 10% veggies... including berries, leafy greens and possible a little cooked corn (like barley or oats). Since apparently game like deer/pheasants might eat corn, meaning that wolves/ancestral dogs might very well have eaten corn too...
Does that seem like an ok variation to you?
Thanks!
My puppy is 30 lbs and is 5 months , and it swallowed a chicken leg , is that bad
It's best to check with your vet to see if your pet is deficient in any nutrients.
Chicken white meat adds little value, chicken thighs can be life saving
Possibly the most irritating, nasal voice ever.
Ahhhh not rabbit. Please not rabbits. I have a pet rabbit and my doggie and my bunny are the best friends. I don’t think that you should promote something like eating rabbit when they are the 3rd most common pet in the United States!!!!!
They are also a very common prey animal for wild cats and dogs, but I do understand how it can be hard for many owners to see, especially when they have a pet rabbit. I'm happy to hear your dog and rabbit are friends! My dog loves my sister's rabbits :)
@@PawsofPrey Thanks so much for your response. I am learning so much about my doggie who is the love of my life along with my bunny. I love that your sweetie doggie love’s the bunny cousin’s.Keep up the amazing work you are doing.
