My lab is 68lbs it would be over 300.00 a month to feed her, that's not feasible on my budget so I make my own and can cut that in less than half by buying human grade at supermarket, beef, chicken, liver, turkey, spinach, or kale, carrots, blueberries, eggs, apples, broccoli, I Lighty cooked in a turkey pan then it all goes in food processor in batches, I then fill gt containers and freeze it leaving one out. lasts about 2 months mixing it with a high-grade kibble at every meal. This takes me about 2 hours every few months. She loves it and looks great; I get a blood test every year to check for problems. Am retired a few hours which 45 min is cooking is included is nothing to me to have a healthy dog. I Also make all her treats dehydrated chicken breasts or even a beef roast on sale, cut everything like bacon size 6/7 hours in dehydrator, I cut them in small pieces and have enough for a few months also. Sounds like a lot of work it's not for my best friend
Try chicharrones for dog treats. Only 3 ingredients. Pork skin, oil, salt. The cheapest "dog treats" I have found. I have four dogs, none are overweight (one is 100 pounds). Looking at $800 a month for dog food. I can feed them beef and chicken for less than that. Pork was just $1.99 a pound.
Farmers Dog customer service was amazing. We had a box getting ready to ship and sadly one of our dogs passed away. We were heartbroken and called to cancel the box and they couldn’t have been nicer. Immediately cancelled the box and refunded the money. We also received a beautiful live houseplant and note delivered in condolence. Our other dog still eats farmers dog and loves it.
@@ronu7313 he had Cushings disease. Was on lots of meds and constant vet visits. This was prior to starting farmers. We started it because he wouldn’t eat and we figured we’d give it a try. It’s the only thing he would eat and without it he wouldn’t have lasted as long as he did.
The same thing happened to me. They were great about it. In my case, I was trying The Farmer’s Dog for the first time when my sweet good boy died. It was unrelated to food as far as I am aware. It was metastatic lung cancer.
I forget how it happened, but we ended up with a box of food that we could not use. My boyfriend called and explained and said that he would pay for it, but they would have to wait a bit. They told us not to worry to just keep it and did not charge us. Also, they said if we could no longer use it to donate it to a local shelter. Now that’s a good company!❤
I have a 13yo 5 lb chihuahua and she was having terrible skin issues. Tried all kinds of different store bought food. Finally gave in and did Farmers Dog. Her skin issues were better in a month and now easily managable when she has a flare up. Cost me about $150 every eight weeks or so. Still cheaper than vet visits. Thanks for your video!
My Thick British style Labrador lived to 14 years old. We stopped his hunting water retrieves 3-4 years ago. At the end he was blind in one eye and bad arthritis. He was giving up and not enjoying life. Took him for his final swim in Lake Superior with me holding him. He was fed Purina Dog Chow. Long life.
I have 5 good sized dogs. They get half kibble. And half road kill deer stew. My oldest dog no longer gets ear infections since starting him on stew. Our newest member had very runny itchy eyes. It slowly has cleared up and hardly runs anymore. Plus they love it 😍
That's what we do; we feed a small amount of high-quality kibble as a base, then rotate proteins from eggs to raw, fermented dairy, fish, etc and top it of with a few extras like pumpkin. Coats are soft, no "doggy" smell, fresh breath with no tartar, and zero health issues, even for my 16-yr-old staffy.
@foxywhitetip7387 While I agree that the quality of most dog kibble is concerning, some of the smaller boutique dog food companies are transparent about their sourcing and processing. I use "Open Farm" grain-free kibble.
I was with FD but when I realized they don’t actually do a months food but 28 days and at $13 a day it is simply cheaper for me to make his meals (also I am legume nervous) but I can say he loved it, it changed his trajectory for the better and their CS is top notch. I take my dogs health very seriously and know kibble is killing our pets.
Thank you for this video. I joined a homemade dog food group on Facebook and asked if anyone would recommend an animal nutritionist on RUclips or elsewhere and "The BK Pets" was mentioned. I am constantly doing research about how to improve my dogs homemade dog food. I think I can make my dogs food cheaper and as I am recently retired I couldn't really afford the Farmer's Dog, but I really appreciated your review of it. Along with the homemade dog food I also give them a vitamin chew, but recently switched to Native Pet vitamin powder. I also add sardines for omega's and make a mix of ground beef and turkey, seaweed calcium powder, taurine, wheatgrass, pumpkin, blueberries, eggs, broccoli, spinach, carrots, and recently I started adding a little bit of oatmeal because money is getting tighter on only a Social Security income. I also started making my own cat pate to feed the two stray kittens. My neighbor feeds them dry food, but I feed them wet and now homemade wet food in the morning and evening. - UPDATE: I found out the Native Pet vitamin powder isn't complete enough. So with the recent black friday sale I bought "Wholistic Canine Complete with Organic Pumpkin for Dogs - Vitamins" I have been told that "Azestfor - Dog Vitamins Supplements Raw and Homemade Dog Food Multivitamins Minerals Powder" is even more complete that the Wholistic Canine Complete, but it is also about $20 more.
@@cathylindeboo.9598 Thank you. I love all animals, always have, always wished I lived on a farm or could have one of those huge rescue places with lots of land and all kinds of animals.
I used to feed this to my dog. Alternating each kind. She slowly stopped eating it all together. First the chicken, then the turkey, then the beef and pork she would eat occasionally. It’s been quite frustrating. I do not let her graze and only feed her 2x a day and remove the bowl and allow her to skip meals if she won’t eat it and she still wouldn’t eat it. She does not get a lot of treats. Only 1 calorie training treats when training. I had to start making my own dog food and so far so good.
OMG! This is exactly what happened with my dog! He loved it at first and then he stopped wanting it! I loved the Farmers dog cause it got rid of his gas! But I didn’t want to pay that high price and he not eating it!
Every dog food. Your dog will stop eating after a while. I wonder if the stop feeding the dogs for 48 hours. Then make the commercial showing the dog gobbling it down?
We have a 15 year old Lhasa. She was getting hard kibble that she loved. Noticed she was having trouble eating and checked her teeth. Back ones were gone. So we got this and she loves it. Put a little weight back on and her coat looks and feels healthier and she has a little more energy.
Thanks for the review Bryce. I have been thinking about trying Farmers Dog. I am slowly transitioning from Open Farm kibble to a 50/50 mix of Open Farm Raw Mix and gently cooked. Thanks for all you do. I have learned so much from you.
I used to feed this, and we have currently changed a lot diet wise. He gets a combination of different food from open farm, spot & tango, raw, freeze-dried. Definitely helps he's a tiny dude so 4lbs of kibble last 3-4 months.
What brand do you use for freeze dried? I used to feed Farmer’s, then switched to Ollie, all while feeding half Sundays also. Now I’m switching to homemade but I’m thinking about doing half freeze/air dried so I can still use food to train, but Sundays is so darn expensive
@thebkpets it was OK, didn't enjoy how messy it was, he like it but he didn't go through it fast enough. We since made the switch to higher quality kibble and raw and I've learned techniques to store food
GREAT video Bryce! This is the kind of information people are really wanting. I hope you do more of these with different brands of foods. I've looked at Farmer's Dog before but my dog has allergies/sensitivities. I wish they had novel protein options like rabbit, goat, bison, venison, lamb etc.
Great analysis! I’ve been influenced by Dr. Karen Becker and add a soft-boiled egg to the dinner portion of Daffy’s food. If I can find them, I add a quail egg to the breakfast portion of her food. She loves the eggs and it’s a great supplement. I’m so glad I found your channel.
@@thebkpets why would we soft boil the egg, opposed to feeding it raw? Is it a bacteria thing? We always fed a raw egg on their kibble daily. Mom said it boosts their immune system and decreased sensitivities. We were on a farm though, so they were getting fresh eggs from the coop. I also wanna get your opinion on how fearful society is about bacteria now days. All the sanitizing we do is more harmful than healthy. Did you know our chicken as been bleached 5 times before it arrives to the store for purchase? Gross! I butcher all my own deer, poultry, and rabbit meat. If the USDA is involved, the meat as been extremely manipulated to meet safety standards, how theres anything left of it is beyond me. My 4 dogs are working farm dogs. They are constantly rolling in manure. What's your opinion, do we really need to be THAT worried about bacteria around our dogs? I loved your video.
I went through all the questions. My kids are 15 pound dogs. At 50 percent off still 3.69 aday that’s cost more than my food at full price. I guess Il try to make my own. Now feeling my dogs don’t get proper nutrition with chicken breast and kibble great review all my questions answered
very informative thank you I was wondering about feeding it but got turned off at their website when I had to enter so much information just to get a price.
now this is the type of video i’ve been waiting for from the bk pets’ youtube channel. i remember from an instagram live they were doing, they mentioned how they were working on in-depth dog food reviews and this first video did not disappoint. super well-made on all fronts! can’t wait to see more videos in the future since this channel has a lot of potential to grow even more
Been feeding our two Corgis FD for 3 years now. Cured our one Corgis skin issue and also, they hardly shed, and Corgis are known for mass amounts of shedding
We do feed our dogs farmers dog and they love it and we love it. I do mix ground beef or ground turkey or ground pork with the farmers dog. I also use Dr. Harvey’s paradigm mix which is freeze dried greens and vegetables that you put in hot water to constitute. I also add a homemade bone broth to the dog food, which I make with beef bones from cows that are pasture raised, and grass fed. All the veggies I use are organic. I give farmers dog a 4.5 out of 5.
So, i use Dr.Harveys food as well and was thinking of switching to farmers, only so that I don't have to cook and keep so many packages of ground chicken in my freezer, what would you reccomend between the two.
@pixiegarza MY mom fed dry food to her large dogs & all 4 lived 19-22 years! THE American Kennel Club says a quality dry food will give dogs all the nutrition they need, because they are strictly regulated by the USDA. The club also says there’s ZERO evidence that “fresh” food is better .
I would be curious to know how much that costs vs just getting your own vegetables and meat and mixing it up yourself. I have never heard of Dr. Harvey, but I did try Dr. Marty's freeze dried one time. It would have cost a fortune to feed that to my 2 large dogs.
We have a 100 pound active chocolate lab that eats Farmers Dog and live in the Chicago area. We pay nowhere near the amount per month as you quoted on your video. I believe we pay $185 per month (versus your $210). Farmers Dog is what our dog mostly eats.
This is so interesting and so helpful! I've really wanted to switch my dog off of kibble forever but I still have no idea what to change to that will fit my budget. Please make a review video for as many fresh/raw/freeze dried brands as possible!

@ since writing this comment, I consulted my vet and switched my dog to Purina kibble and she’s thriving! So glad I didn’t waste money and consulted a medical professional!
I was recently told that kibble doesn't actually reach the gumline which is where the cleaning needs to take place. Better to brush with an enzymatic dog toothpaste. Please correct me if I'm wrong
I get that it's healthier. I would love to afford it. The price at $375 a month for my 1 100lb dog is not affordable for someone on disability. I spend less on my food bill a month. Poor is poor.😂

Saw some Reddit comments that claim Farmers Dog has been credited with malnutrition for not being nutritionally complete. Does not meet dog food standards. Then I looked as some review of Freshpet which some of my friends swear by and they have a recurring listeria issue in their plants. A few years ago my dog almost died from a Merrick wet food pouch manufactured in china that had plastics in it. Since then I trust no company completely with any dog food. I rotate brands. Kibble is mostly Open Farm which (allegedly) uses grass fed beef and free range chicken. Then top it with a high quality canned or fresh table food that I’m eating - protein and veggies. Luckily I have three beagles with hearty appetites which will eat dirt if I offer it to them. No picky eaters here.
I saw a report that foods like Farmers dog are not good for dogs in the long run. They are starting to see health issues. Don't know the details since I don't use it, but it's out there
@@DianneRay-pj3wu: due to concerns about its nutritional profile, particularly the higher fat content, and the lack of substantial evidence supporting the unique benefits claimed by the brand regarding their cooking process, which could potentially lead to unnecessary cost without significant nutritional advantages for your dog.
Could you make a video broken down like this for Darwin’s raw food for cats? Just used a promo code and got a trial box dirt cheap and wanna see if I should continue it for my cats or keep it as a treat
Agree on making sure protein, fats and carbs are high quality. NonGMO animal protein. Consider fish low in mercury and not farm raised. Also carbs must be high in polyphenols and fiber etc. I wish the packaging had list of ingredients and macronutrient amounts.
Thank you! I started with Farmers Dog a couple of months ago and my little terrier likes it. I moved to delivery to add more variety to Fresh Pet from the grocery store. I also tried Pet's Table but it was high in soy protein and she didn't like it after the second meal.
I liked the company's philosophy and their customer service, but the only recipe my pup would eat was the chicken. He refused the beef and was lukewarm with the turkey ( I was never given the pork option). So, unfortunately, it didn't pay for me to continue ordering. Now, I'm exploring making my own dog food, so I might consider their supplemental packet.
Thank you for this video. I just subscribed! I’m at a loss as to what to feed my 8 year old Chiuauha. He is so picky and refuses to eat dog food. A lot of this is on me. His diet consist of Eggs and chicken mostly. A little turkey bacon and occasionally roast beef. No veggies at all. I can get him to eat pate dog food if I hand feed it to him. He has lost several teeth so giving him vitamins or chew for nutrition or probiotics is almost impossible. I’ve thought about trying the farmers dog, but if it’s anything like the food you get in the stores that are fresh I know he won’t eat it, I’ve tried several..but I’m so worried about his health and his nutrition. 😢 it’s not only hurting him but causing me a lot of anxiety and stress as well.
Just got my first box today. Theres no feeding guide in my box like there is supposed to be. Kindve annoying now 8 need to call them and find out online about the feeding guide..
Easy, one pack of food is their daily food intake or you can feed half a pack and feed another type to fill the other half of their intake for the day.
I’ve been using the farmer’s dog for over a year and my instructions are 1/2 pack a day.

My Golden Retriever: Ground turkey, chicken hearts, minced, eggs (including shells ground/blended), pumpkin, brown rice, broccoli/carrot/water chestnut blend, nutritional yeast, coconut oil, garlic powder (yes dogs can have garlic it helps with fleas/ticks), salt (yes they need salt added in specific amount), turmeric/ginger supplement added. I cook everything up in large batches every two-three weeks. $2.00 per serving, or 4.00 per day. ALSO: a couple of times per week I give a can of Season's sardines or Wild Planet sardines for Omega-3s, and if I do not have in stock, I give a high-quality Omega-3 supplement instead. And he gets NOW brand of quercetin/bromelain during allergy season. And I sneak in a bit of ACV when I can. Lastly, he gets his ears wiped out with 1:1 of filtered water and ACV, and it helps his ear issues. He is a happy hound! 🐕🦺🐕🦺🐕🦺
I beginning to think Google will run scam ads. I sit through two different ads two different products. It was the same ad using a so call Christian to tell the story of how they found this product. shared it with with their church. Everyone had outstanding results.
Wow, I have been buying The Farmers Dog food for about a year and I still haven't gotten a nice plastic container to keep it in! I understand sending the paper containers to new (possibly temporary) customers for their first few orders, but once a customer is established they should send a more permanent option. My dogs love it, but it's expensive so my dogs get mostly dry kibble and I just supplement with The Farmers Dog.
Mine gets a little bit of kibble. Then I might add some cooked rice/ mixed chopped veggies/different pieces of meat/baked yam skins and his health issues great his age (9),his coat is thick-shiny. When I cook-I’m thinking about the two us. It doesn’t take that long to steam/roast/bake such things because you’re in the kitchen anyways- add a little more for the dog.Researched the intro price of “ Farmers Dog” and it’s definitely marketed towards the “ Boomers” with their disposable income.I’m a “ boomer’ as well but I cook/eat at home 99% of the time. My dog eats appropriately good food. He loves steamed broccoli/ small pieces of crust from the homemade pizza. He enjoys his “ cultural ethnic eating “ experiments from the kitchen.
I have had my 60lb boxer on The Farmers Dog for over a year now. It is costing me $11.20 per day which to me is a little pricey. I was using their recipes they give you (which they have quite a few) if you choose to make your own and use their suppliment packs. I was able to save a little but the suppliment packs were about $20 a week so $80 a month. So with the ingredients I bought plus the suppliment packs plus the time it took to make 8 days worth of food I decided to go back to the premade portions. If I were to go back to making it myself I would maybe try to find a less expensive way to suppliment. I had to go back to kibble for a few weeks and wow the gas started immediately and he would empty his water bowl daily. When he is on TFD he doesn’t need to drink much water at all. Overall we are pretty happy. We will be going in for bloodwork soon to see how everything is looking.
@@thebkpets This may be a dumb question but why is it bad to thaw the food in hot water? How long did it take you to thaw out the food in the fridge? Seems like it takes forever.
My 70 pound Shepherd eats 24 ounces of ground beef a day, plus an egg, and beef liver/sardines/ chicken feet here and there. Topped with simple collagen bone broth I make for her. Less expensive than Farmer’s especially if you calculate the meat content. Farmer’s has too much of what dogs don’t need and not enough meat. Definitely don’t need their vitamin supplements either. That’s what the liver, etcetera, is for. And, when beef and egg prices finally go back down…
Are there any dog foods that get a 5/5? I’m not currently able to make homemade dog food, and it is so stressful trying to figure out what’s good and not good. To anyone still considering the farmer’s dog: it’s a little over $200/month for my 23 lb Mini Aussie. Their pricing is really hidden until you get past the initial discounts and finally get charged for a full month. Just FYI - not a comment on whether it’s worth it or whether you should feed this.
My miniature wiener dog was forced to switch to this food after her back surgery because doctor said she needed to lose weight. She has had problems with allergies before but once again seemed to be allergic to another healthy food option. My suspicion is that she was not allergic to all three but only the beef one. This caused a strange crusty type rash all over her chest. Otherwise my Chihuahua loved it 10/10.
Hi. Can anyone tell me what the owner of BK Pets feeds his dogs? I want to copy but not if it’s all home cooked since I unfortunately don’t have time for that. Our dogs are currently on FD but it’s $300 every 18 days and they are still hungry :(
We currently feed a few different brands of cooked and raw food but I believe they are all more expensive than TFD. Don't feel bad if you want to switch to kibble with fresh food toppers! Your dogs will still get so many benefits. You're amazing :)
Awww thanks! You too! So I’ve been researching all day and found two id love your opinion on. One is BJs Raw Pet Food (about same cost as TFD. The other is Farm-2-Bowl which is actually less expensive than TFD. Thoughts?
Food for thought.... you're already shopping for you're own food, just pick up extra meat and veg. You're already cooking (probably at least some) for yourself, just cook a little extra meat and veg for your fur babies. No extra time spent if you make a large batch of food for " leftovers". I cook all my meat in instant pot, super fast and easy. I enjoy making food my babies love a lot more than spending time watching tv, on the computer, or on Facebook. Not saying you're doing those things, just saying most of us have more time than we realize once we analyze how it's being spent. 😊
@@thebkpets yep! I like that it’s similar to what Darwin’s or Viva does, vacuum sealed. And the Puptainer they give you to use with a scoop is super cute and convenient. Ollie is also available in Petco, in the freezers and has a baked dry food, similar to Carna4. If you’re curious to take a look, I created a channel on Instagram featuring my bowls. Your content inspired me to start it.
I have 7 shih Tzu dogs mom dad and 5 pups we spent about $55.00 every two weeks. On food for them I'm wondering if we could help us id really like to feed the dogs a combination of dry and fresh together. Can you advise me on this
Already looking at it online it says starting at 1$ impossible with inflation and then it say $2 -12$ a day still seems too low with inflation because the raw diet is something like 70 percent meat if your using real meat dog is probably eating a atleast 1lb I just didn't think it was really feasible
I hate it when companies choose the amount of food your dog is supposed to need. Maybe I want to feed them 2% of their body weight versus a 2.5% that way they can have extra treats throughout the day as well but they don't even tell you the price per pound let alone the recommended actual amount to feed. Like how much did this package actually cost per pound and how many pounds did you get?
You can literally adjust the weight to whatever you want. My dog weights 20 pounds but I put down 18 because I do feed treats so this way they give me less than what he should be eating.. and it actually tells you exactly how much they charge per pound
@RuelaFejzulla Yeah I'm aware that I choose how much I actually feed them but certain companies don't let you just order by the LB and those are the companies I'm talking about. The set it and forget it ones. Not every company is like that but it's annoying when they are
How is it that you seem to be the only one to ask the question of how much this stuff costs? Not by the dog, the week, the month, the box or the length of the delivery cycle - you know the way we buy food for ourselves and every other creature we feed - by the pound! Do we even know if the packages weigh the same for every different dog's order? I'm not sure if the weight is even on the packages - for a long time it wasn't. I know how much a pound of beef or chicken costs, I know the price of a pound of beans and I know how to regulate how much my dog eats if he won't do it himself. Why will this company and every hack who posts a video to shill for it jump through hoops to avoid allowing the consumer to know the actual price of what they are selling?
I looked into Smalls (maybe the same company?) and did the math. If I bought their food exclusively for my cats I'd be paying about four times what I spend on my own food monthly. This might be okay if you have one pet and a better than average income, but it becomes impractical very quickly with multiple animals.
Totally agree. So many of these fresh food companies work for people with like, one small dog or one small cat but we hear from people with 3-4 big dogs that most fresh food would cost $1k/month or more
Cats should eat nothing but meat and fish. Try raw ground beef, and canned tuna in water. That should be cheaper than TFD, and won’t have vegetables and grains that are carbohydrates that cause Diabetes in cats.
Hey Bryce, big fan of the channel. I feed my girls Open farm + ancient grains and they do really well on this food. I've always been interested in Farmers dog, but it's not in my budget at the moment but possibly in the future. I've been told recently that I'm feeding a bad food and that I should be feeding Hill's or Purina and it has me worried. If you have any advice or input on this topic I'd appreciate it very much, I know you get a lot of comments!
Hi there! Thanks so much for your kind words. Want to start by saying you are not alone in this and many conventional vet professionals will tell you that Hill's and Purina are the best. For us, the simplest thing it comes down to is, what do we want our dogs to be eating? My wife and I take our own health very seriously so we eat grass-fed beef, high quality grains, etc. Now, we aren't advocating for a large amount of grains but what we're saying is that the high-quality ingredients that Open Farm uses like grass-fed beef seem much better than the lower quality ingredients companies like Hills and Purina use like conventional meat, low-quality grains, corn, etc. Open Farm is balanced just like the others and they are far more transparent about their sourcing, so the choice is clear for us. Hope this helps! :)
Just a regular dog parent here, but many Vets are courted by companies like Hills and Purina to sell their products. I am getting a new large breed puppy in December and have been researching like crazy what is the best quality that I can afford to feed him. What I've been convinced of is this: please promise me you will never feed you pup either of those. Stick with what you are doing right and don't let anyone talk you out of it! Good luck friend! ❤
I did t realize that chicken is the most allergy causing food for dogs :/ so now I need to stop giving chicken to my GSD :/ and she did love Farmers Dog food
I have been feeding Eddie "The Farmer's Dog" for a few months now. I'm on a fixed income and wish the food wasn't so expensive, that being said, after watching "The Boss of the Swamp" on U-Toob, and seeing what happened to Tildy, their Border Collie, I think I'll stick to the Farmers Dog. I don't want to put my pup through that hell.
You could make the same food for 2-3 weeks for the cost of 1 week. Just need a pressure cooker and a few hours of time. We've been doing this for 20+ years now, and have had Goldens live 15+ years off of it. So... you know. Also, if you take your pet on a trip like backpacking or canoe tripping you can dehydrate their food and then rehydrate on the trail or at camp with zero Nutrional loss. But - if you want to pay for the convenience, this is probably the way to go. Just don't give your dog kibble from the vast majority of manufacturers. If you don't believe me, go look into their production plants. I had the displeasure of being a vendor for Purina and I can tell you that I've seen countless issues with what they 'scoop up' off the floor and just dump back into the conveyor belt. Maggots, flies everywhere, the smell of death... and it gets worse. Good luck, folks.

I tried them, but my 8lb chin wawa wouldn't touch it. Funny texture gross odor and she couldn't chew it even after whizzing in the mini food processor. They literally bombarded me with texts and emails even after I signed up and forget about it after I canceled. Very hard sell company. There dog food may be wonderful idk, but not if your tiny dog can't even eat it.
I looked up Farmer's Dog's website ONCE a year ago and ever since then I have been bombarded with the same 3 commercials on RUclips on every single commercial break. They could have the best product in the world but RUclips and their advertising has poisoned me towards them for life. I cannot emphasize how annoying it is to be mowing the lawn, or in the shower and hear the same commercial for the millionth time and not be able to skip it. Even the first 5 seconds gets me angry at this point.
1st time had coupon after that it is expensive. Smelled good ingredients wholesome within 6mos our dog bored with it to. Expensive to continue only reason we canceled
My fur baby is an American bully with high amounts of allergies and needs probiotics something for his anal gland and something I can afford monthly. I am currently quitting the kibble because it’s causing my dog all kinds of problems and I’m stressed out because I can’t find an affordable healthy food for my baby who has brought so much joy for me and my daughter.😢
I have one and I buy open farm, great digestive and beautiful coat. Clean teeth. Just took her to the vet a few days ago and they said she looks great and isn't very healthy. BTW I mix kibble with their gently cooked
Allergies are from food the dog doesn’t need, like grains, seeds and vegetables. Give nothing but 80/20 or leaner raw ground beef for two weeks as an elimination diet to clear out the allergies, then start adding in eggs, sardines, and liver.
I have To give my pittie psyllium husk daily or she gets impacted anal glands. She's allergic to flax. Try increasing your babies fiber for anal gland issues.
Have you ever considered the Carpet in your house or the Chemicals put down on your lawn are the cause of your dogs allergies? It's not the food or brands.
Only 2 points in but I'm curious to see how this goes. I work in a dog kennel where people board their pets for vacation, a few people have brought this in and it looks good, even smells good. But it's so messy and I never looked it up but I'm guessing WAY overpriced, Guess I'll keep watching and find out. :) Well now that i finished, my answer is no. What we do is buy walmart dog food, think its pure balance? Then whenever we buy meat its usually in bulk. We will take the mest and cut it up and freeze it, but while im cutting it, ill cut any fatty pieces off or weird looking pieces, always generous to make sure theres meat too, but we take all those trims and my girlfriend will cook them and we have broth we add and then we portion that out and put it on top of his kibble. He absolutely loves it. Utilizing our potential trash to make my dogs diet significatly better? Win win.
I keep hearing that several of these raw food gently cooked food and others are starting to incorporate lab grown meat...which is also human approved. No idea if the farmers dog is ... just hearing it here and there about companies in general. What are your thoughts?
Didn’t talk about actual ingredients. Looks like it has too many carbs for me. And too expensive. I purchase an excellent brand from a butcher shop and I make a batch monthly. For the price of the FD, I can make treats and give raw bones too. Plus I have more than one dog. I’ve considered this brand and love what they have done for the health of dogs. Good option
Also I have to say this, and I mean this as a compliment, you look so much like James McAvoy the British actor, that you can pretty much say whatever you want
Can you please do Moochie & Brit Wet Food? Though I'm feeding my dog mainly Orijen. I'm using these as one of the toppers and variety. These (Farmer's Dog) kind are really hard to come by (or not available at all) at my area. I'm beginning to cook meat though as one of the mixers of dry food. Egg also.
I did the initial trial at 50% off but dang after that the $350 or so every 2wks if I’m correct is way too much. So bummed Idk how yall do frozen or diy
Please keep in mind if you have Dalmatians, English Bulldogs and several other breeds high purine foods will cause severe health issues. These breeds should never be fed organ meats and avoid: Organ meats, like liver Red meats Fish, like sardines Yeast extracts, like brewer's yeast
Little dogs teeth with rot fall out or be swallowed and pooped out. Bad horrible breath. Brushing a dog's teeth. That's weird. A raw hid is ok 1-2 times a week. Not the huge knotted up deals. Something like the rectangular ones are fine for dogs. They are a treat only. 1-2 times a week
Currently feeding raised right and Green Juju. I believe both of them have cat options, though green juju may only have dog food but it’s also balanced for cats
My friend works in dog food sales & they’re seeing trends of Pancreatitis due to the high fat content. I stopped immediately after that. There’s a post about it on Reddit too. Just beware.
Because these little companies haven't done real research nor do they have qualified pet nutritionist. It cost me 1000 dollars getting my sheltie back to normal from pancreatitis. Currently on Science Diet I/D low fat. Was told by my vet to feed my dog a senior food. I've done many different diets raw, crock pot stew over the years. It's not sustainable if you have a family and several dogs. My Labrador was fed Dog Chow for 13 years. He was 14. I'll only buy Purina, Science Diet, or Iams brands.
I will say it isn't the best for dogs that have sensitive stomachs. My dog got really sick eating this food unfortunately. I like the idea of it but me personally I don't like the food due to my experience with my dog getting sick everyday eating it.
I know liver has lots of vitamins, but be careful because its also full of hormones and bad stuff in it as well.
Try foundation raw they’re amazing and cheaper about 50% cheaper
The food you make is better than farmer's dog
Farmers Dog customer service was amazing. We had a box getting ready to ship and sadly one of our dogs passed away. We were heartbroken and called to cancel the box and they couldn’t have been nicer. Immediately cancelled the box and refunded the money. We also received a beautiful live houseplant and note delivered in condolence. Our other dog still eats farmers dog and loves it.
That’s really good to hear about their customer service! So so sorry for your loss ❤️
Did you wonder why dog passed? Too many reviews I read organ failure
Wow. Sad about your dog but happy they were so kind.
Yeah for small dogs this would be perfect and more affordable.
Long life.
There is always one fool comment like this.
Love this! Kibble with high quality toppers leads to amazing health outcomes
Thanks 😊
I don’t believe there is such a thing as “high quality kibble” they all get their ingredients from the same place
You’re amazing! Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️

@ thanks for sharing! That is interesting. I wonder if there are others out there.
Every dog food. Your dog will stop eating after a while. I wonder if the stop feeding the dogs for 48 hours. Then make the commercial showing the dog gobbling it down?
Making your own food is the best way to go
We have a 15 year old Lhasa. She was getting hard kibble that she loved. Noticed she was having trouble eating and checked her teeth. Back ones were gone. So we got this and she loves it. Put a little weight back on and her coat looks and feels healthier and she has a little more energy.
I would like to see them test the food better.. Thank you for the information!
Thanks for the review Bryce. I have been thinking about trying Farmers Dog. I am slowly transitioning from Open Farm kibble to a 50/50 mix of Open Farm Raw Mix and gently cooked. Thanks for all you do. I have learned so much from you.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Good luck with the transition! ❤️
I have been feeding my dog Rice for about 3 years now. It’s convenient and Rice loves the food; her favorite is the beef recipe.
Who else had a ad for farmers dog before this video😂😂
ME HAHAHA
Nope, but an in-between ad for Sunday something dogfood😊
I used to feed this, and we have currently changed a lot diet wise. He gets a combination of different food from open farm, spot & tango, raw, freeze-dried. Definitely helps he's a tiny dude so 4lbs of kibble last 3-4 months.
Ahh makes sense! Did you like feeding The Farmer's Dog?
What brand do you use for freeze dried? I used to feed Farmer’s, then switched to Ollie, all while feeding half Sundays also. Now I’m switching to homemade but I’m thinking about doing half freeze/air dried so I can still use food to train, but Sundays is so darn expensive
@thebkpets it was OK, didn't enjoy how messy it was, he like it but he didn't go through it fast enough. We since made the switch to higher quality kibble and raw and I've learned techniques to store food
@@Husky.the.Bear2 we use open farm and primal raw, my dog really enjoys them and the ingredients are great
@@April_Sylveon Thank you!
Thank you! Totally agree on wishing they had more proteins
Thank you so much! ❤️
Same! Thanks for the kind words ☺️
now this is the type of video i’ve been waiting for from the bk pets’ youtube channel. i remember from an instagram live they were doing, they mentioned how they were working on in-depth dog food reviews and this first video did not disappoint. super well-made on all fronts! can’t wait to see more videos in the future since this channel has a lot of potential to grow even more

@ Farmers Dog! I only use Dr Harvey’s paradigm as a topper. It’s easy and nutritious. You can add toppers to it if you like.
@pixiegarza MY mom fed dry food to her large dogs & all 4 lived 19-22 years! THE American Kennel Club says a quality dry food will give dogs all the nutrition they need, because they are strictly regulated by the USDA. The club also says there’s ZERO evidence that “fresh” food is better
.
$30 isn’t a huge difference. Maybe he included shipping cost in his price. Maybe he didn’t get a discount that you are getting

@ since writing this comment, I consulted my vet and switched my dog to Purina kibble and she’s thriving! So glad I didn’t waste money and consulted a medical professional!
I am a RDN. Keep in mind if you feed your dog “soft” dog food. You can have teeth or gum issues unless you brush your dogs teeth every day.
Teeth issues happen with kibble also. Kibble doesn’t clean teeth
Very true of all foods. But soft foods will cause more tartar . It is a good food but very expensive . And brushing teeth will need to be done often.
We have found kibble to be the worst at sticking to teeth
I was recently told that kibble doesn't actually reach the gumline which is where the cleaning needs to take place. Better to brush with an enzymatic dog toothpaste. Please correct me if I'm wrong

They show you everything that goes into your dogs food and posts everything about the process pretty cool not many do this

Great and thorough video! I was feeding my dog the honest kitchen and now trying the farmers dog. What do you feed your pooch?
We currently feed Raised Right and Darwin’s!
I get that it's healthier. I would love to afford it. The price at $375 a month for my 1 100lb dog is not affordable for someone on disability. I spend less on my food bill a month. Poor is poor.😂

i had a hard time with the site it has a dog on there that i no longer had i tried to change it to my new dog and never got it through
Would like to know which dog food is absolutely the best of the best.
Don't know the details since I don't use it, but it's out there
So what do you feed?
Evidence please
@@DianneRay-pj3wu: due to concerns about its nutritional profile, particularly the higher fat content, and the lack of substantial evidence supporting the unique benefits claimed by the brand regarding their cooking process, which could potentially lead to unnecessary cost without significant nutritional advantages for your dog.
Could you make a video broken down like this for Darwin’s raw food for cats? Just used a promo code and got a trial box dirt cheap and wanna see if I should continue it for my cats or keep it as a treat
It looks great, and the packaging is also beautiful!
Thanks for the video, very informative 👍
Glad it helped!
Thanks for this.
So interesting! The supplement pack I think is a great thing to make it more accessible
Their quiz before knowing price has always been what’s stopped me from using Farmers Dog. Just in case they read comments.
Try TFD! It is a lot different than fresh pet and some of the other fresher foods. Our dogs really loved it and one is very picky
For probiotic mix plain Greek yogurt mix in less than a teaspoon mix it in.

We notice many of the same things you do with drinking water on kibble vs fresh food. Also, $20/week for the DIY nutrient pack seems so expensive!
@@thebkpets This may be a dumb question but why is it bad to thaw the food in hot water? How long did it take you to thaw out the food in the fridge? Seems like it takes forever.
@@hoosierbengal163Thawing in hot water begins a cooking process that can cause bacteria. Thaw in cold water, or best in the fridge over 24 hours.
And, when beef and egg prices finally go back down…
My dogs absolutely love this food.
Wow! Imagine the cost for when my large breed puppy is full grown at 80+ pounds! Who can afford $1000 a month!
My dog dermatologist told me not to feed my dog beef or chicken as they cause many dogs allergic reactions.
What’s another alternative that you recommend instead of Farmers Dog? (15 lb cavapoo)
My job says that they use potatoe fillers. Is this true? You didnt talk about that so was just wondering is this true
Dr Becker is not recommending legumes,or i am wrong?
We have used both TFD and Ollie, I prefer Ollie’s system, way cleaner to use. I rotate this with Yummers and Darwin’s.
Interesting! What makes Ollie’s cleaner to use? The packaging?
@@thebkpets yep! I like that it’s similar to what Darwin’s or Viva does, vacuum sealed. And the Puptainer they give you to use with a scoop is super cute and convenient. Ollie is also available in Petco, in the freezers and has a baked dry food, similar to Carna4.

I have 7 shih Tzu dogs mom dad and 5 pups we spent about $55.00 every two weeks. On food for them I'm wondering if we could help us id really like to feed the dogs a combination of dry and fresh together. Can you advise me on this
Feeding dry food with fresh food is a fantastic idea!
That’s a really good point!
I would love to see you take a dive into Just Food For Dogs as well!
What about nutrient content? It's crap if the nutrients like calcium and phosphorus are off.
Would you please evaluate Ultimate Pet Nutrition products? Many thanks!!

The question for me is would you invest in this product for your fur baby?
I did t realize that chicken is the most allergy causing food for dogs :/ so now I need to stop giving chicken to my GSD :/ and she did love Farmers Dog food
Agree questionnaire UXUI is not user friendly - a table format would be better. Send a cool clips instead of plastic container.
I feed the farmers dog & love it but What can i add to it to make it more complete in terms of the nutrients she needs?
Feed Purina, Science Diet, or the Iams brands. They have done the research.
Watch documentary called, "Pet Fooled" online
Great review!!!!!
Is there a non synthetic vitamin or supplement that you can recommend to use if you are preparing your dogs food at home?
Liver, and sardines in water.
Liver and sardines canned in water.
Liver in small amounts To high in vitamin A toxic if you give to much liver
That's interesting
Oh snaps
Please do badlands ranch. Human grade and gently dried. Very interested in it
I tried them, but my 8lb chin wawa wouldn't touch it.
Ps...very expensive too
I looked up Farmer's Dog's website ONCE a year ago and ever since then I have been bombarded with the same 3 commercials on RUclips on every single commercial break.
That’s some good cookies 😂
Hi can you get the farmers dogs home to other countries?
I think it’s US only!
1st time had coupon after that it is expensive. Smelled good ingredients wholesome within 6mos our dog bored with it to. Expensive to continue only reason we canceled
If I'm only spending $5000 per year on food for myself, I'm not spending $6000 per year on food for my dog.
Your math is off. Also hard to believe a person can live on 13.69 per day especially with quality levels.
No one I know is able to afford to eat as healthy as we have done previously. Not a political statement, just an observation of grocery prices
I feed my doggie home made stew ...and wet and dry together..I buy ribeye and she loves it
That’s awesome!
Lentils are not necessary. Add sunflower seeds instead.
Just came here to comment I thought this was Jack Harlow reviewing dog food from the thumbnail. Good review though
@@janp7660just feed Dog Chow. Lay off the lawn chemicals and find another company to clean your carpets.
Well now that i finished, my answer is no.
Win win.
For sure keep watching because we feel like we have a better system within this video on how to feed it and make less of a mess! ❤️
I tried them once my dog was never full.
I keep hearing that several of these raw food gently cooked food and others are starting to incorporate lab grown meat...which is also human approved. No idea if the farmers dog is ... just hearing it here and there about companies in general. What are your thoughts?
Never heard of it!
Has anyone used , Lone Wolf Ranch, dog food, it's Chuck Norris company... thank you for sharing great info...
2 out of 5 for Accessibility is a bad rating - especially since you list zero gaps
Good option
We for sure talked about actual ingredients, there’s an entire section on that
@@thebkpets must have missed that section sorry.
Also I have to say this, and I mean this as a compliment, you look so much like James McAvoy the British actor, that you can pretty much say whatever you want
😂😅😂@@Indypendy
Did I miss the answer on whether farmers dog is better than kibble?
Yes
Can you please do Moochie & Brit Wet Food? Though I'm feeding my dog mainly Orijen. I'm using these as one of the toppers and variety. These (Farmer's Dog) kind are really hard to come by (or not available at all) at my area. I'm beginning to cook meat though as one of the mixers of dry food. Egg also.
I did the initial trial at 50% off but dang after that the $350 or so every 2wks if I’m correct is way too much.
So bummed
Idk how yall do frozen or diy
Please keep in mind if you have Dalmatians, English Bulldogs and several other breeds high purine foods will cause severe health issues. These breeds should never be fed organ meats and avoid: Organ meats, like liver
Red meats
Fish, like sardines
Yeast extracts, like brewer's yeast
Source?
Just feed Pro Plan, Science Diet, or Iams brands. Problems solved.
Smell was wretched. Kibble also helps with dental. If you are doing soft food only, be prepared for more frequent dental visits.
Kibble doesn’t help with dental. Does cereal help your dental health?
Gotta brush their teethies regularly.
Do you brush with Lucky Charms?
@@CharleytheGermanShepherd Quisp
Little dogs teeth with rot fall out or be swallowed and pooped out. Bad horrible breath. Brushing a dog's teeth. That's weird. A raw hid is ok 1-2 times a week. Not the huge knotted up deals. Something like the rectangular ones are fine for dogs. They are a treat only. 1-2 times a week
Farmer's Dog is ridiculously expensive and all the ingredients you can make at home.
Got it
You're not a dog food nutritionist. Buy Purina, Science Diet, and Iams brands.
Oh wow, I feed BARF for 2 dogs under 200 dollars - both dogs are over 50 lb.
what do you feed now that you don't feed Viva Raw?
I'm looking for healthy fresh cat food
Currently feeding raised right and Green Juju. I believe both of them have cat options, though green juju may only have dog food but it’s also balanced for cats
@@thebkpets Thank you!
Can you do a Ollie review
the full ingredient list has a synthetic "vitamin" base fyi I used them for 6 months til I found a reliable butcher/processor
Right, this was mentioned in the "ingredients" section
