  • What's good, everyone?! Today's video features a look at an abandoned South State Bank in North Charleston, SC. I filmed this video towards the beginning of 2023 alongside the Gander Outdoors short and my 2023 look at the Toys R Us. However, I didn't realize that I never released the video. I'm not sure when this location closed, but I would guess that it was sometime in 2022, based on what I could see on Google Maps. I also learned that this building was home to a local chain of banks called "First Federal" before it was South State. First Federal merged with South Carolina Bank and Trust (SCBT) in 2016. The new company emerged as South State Bank.
South State Bank is a chain of bank locations throughout the state of South Carolina. The company emerged out of the First Federal and SCBT merger.
I hope you all enjoyed my visit of this abandoned South State bank in North Charleston, SC.

I noticed something neat from the mirrored windows. At 8:14, it looks like you were able to catch a glimpse of the inside. Solid vid for sure

Yes! I wish I would have realized this when I was there and I would have shown more from that angle. I couldn't believe how hard it was to see in there. Thank you for your support!

They applied 3M type mirrored UV film on the inside of the window. Probably for security and also to block the sun when the bank was open.
    Nice vid!

That makes more sense. This bank appears to be built pretty weird. The windows seem to face the sun, so I can see why they'd do that.

The AC condenser units could have been sold for scrap or used by a shady contractor offering a customer a deal for used equipment. The rest of the system is probably in the ceiling of the building or on the roof, but those units are still valuable.

Yeah, I figured that someone could use it for parts or sell it for money. Though....it probably wouldn't be easy to hide what they're doing when trying to take it, lol.
      Thanks for your support!

I remember seeing this bank a few times…never noticed that it closed. It seems as if someone was maintaining that property pretty well at the time you recorded this. Despite that, it’ll probably get demolished at some point (if not already) and get replaced by another car wash, as if there weren’t enough car washes popping up in the Charleston area (I still can’t understand why).

Yeah, I honestly didn't think it was abandoned either, but when I saw how there were almost no cars in the parking lot, I figured it was. The property does appear to be well maintained, fortunately. I REALLY hope it doesn't get demolished for ANOTHER car wash. This can easily be repurposed into another bank or another business. Relative to this location, there is literally a car wash maybe a mile or so down the road by the Rivers Ave. Walmart entrance. I don't understand why there are so many either, but in my opinion, they really don't need to add another one. Thanks for watching!
