Abandoned: Mellow Mushroom - Summerville, SC

- What's good, everyone?! Today's video features a look at an abandoned Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant. This location closed in May 2021 after the company announced its intentions to focus its operations on the North Charleston and West Ashley locations. The building was soon acquired by Wild Wing Cafe, and they planned to convert the space to their own. However, Wild Wing experienced their own financial troubles, and filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in July 2023. The building would go on to remain vacant as a result. I cannot confirm any changes at the release of this video, but I have received information that the building may be redeveloped or even demolished in the near future. I ate at this restaurant once, and the food was pretty good. Sad to see it go out, but hopefully another business can take its place.
Mellow Mushroom is a restaurant chain headquartered out of Atlanta, GA. The chain operates approximately 170 locations across the United States.

There were definitely one or two folks living in that outdoor eating area and also the fenced area near the circuit breaker when I filmed this months ago. Unfortunately that back area was being used as a restroom… it was really nasty.😢
Wow. That's sad. I hope those people were able to find some shelter from the elements and warmth from the bitter cold temperatures. I wonder what will become of the space the building was on.

Thank you very much! From what I heard, this place wasn't in the greatest of shape. I have been told that it's since been demolished. Likewise to you.
As of November 2023 this building has been demolished and the land looks as if it has been leveled for new development. I heard from somewhere that after the Wild Wing deal fell through, another chain bought the lot and intended to repurpose the building for their own restaurant, but they discovered that the building was too far gone for restoration (too much mold, apparently), so they ended up having to start from scratch on the property, hence why it has been demoed. I don’t know if all of that is completely accurate info or not but it’s just what I’ve heard.
I believe that this also used to be a Perkins back in the day.
Thanks for the update! I haven't been by the building since August 2023, so I'm eager to see what that part of the city looks like without the unique building standing anymore. I had no idea there was a Perkins' around this area. I believe I only saw one, which was on Dorchester Rd. It'll be interesting to see what is built on the site. Thank you for supporting!
@@ZeeMann_Retail The family that owns the perkins on Old Trolley Rd use to own this Perkins before it was a Mellow Mushroom. Ate there many times when it was perkins. you could probably ask the Old Trolley Rd owner about it.

I’m pretty sure this building just got demolished a week or two ago. I pass by it often, but there’s so much traffic on Main I forget to look over to not get in an accident.

I have eaten here on my birthday in 2020 and I'm sad it closed. Charleston has a bad shopping cart problem the stores need to put locking systems on there shopping carts especially Walmart.

Yeah, I don't know whether companies choose not to put magnets or poles on their carts, or can't put them on for whatever reason. The most carts I've seen are from Walmart. Thank you for supporting!
