Abandoned: BI-LO Supermarket - Charleston, SC

- What's good, everyone?! Today's video features a look at an abandoned BI-LO Grocery Store in Charleston, SC. This location was previously a Piggly Wiggly, as many of them were in the early 2000s. I'm not sure when the building switched occupancy, as I've only ever seen it as a BI-LO. This store was in a nice spot located off of Meeting St. in Downtown Charleston. However, the financial struggles of the parent company Southeastern Grocers forced them into a bankruptcy filing in 2018. Subsequently, the company shedded its number of stores. The closures included stores under the BI-LO nameplate, Harvey's, and Winn Dixie. However, the company ultimately chose to end the BI-LO brand of stores after 60 years of operations in June 2020. Publix, Food Lion, Lowe's Foods, and Ahold would all become beneficiaries of either stores or distribution centers as a result of the brand's liquidation. Most abandoned BI-LO stores have been repurposed by other grocery stores since their closures. This location, however, serves as a storage building for the city of Charleston, but is not open for business.
BI-LO is a now defunct chain of grocery stores that was parented by Southeastern Grocers (SE Grocers) out of Jacksonville, FL.

That's awesome! I'll have to check out your video. I figured it was a Piggly Wiggly as well. I think it turned to BI-LO when they acquired the Piggly Wiggly group in Charleston.
Prior to Bi-Lo, this was Piggly Wiggly #1. That area looks so different from years ago!

On that cert of occ paper you spotted in the window… it said “meeting street eats”
It looks like after bi-lo closed, this parking lot was also used as “meeting street eats” for food trucks. The green paint on the parking lot was where the trucks parked around. Their last fb post was late 2022, so I assume it is not active anymore.
Ahh, thank you for pointing that out! I totally missed it. I had been wondering why certain spots of the parking lot was green. I guess some cars can park in those spots and make the planet more...green. Lol.
I think for the design they were trying to invoke a train station because right behind the building railroad tracks used to run through there.

I know I've already commenting on this video, but I have a suggestion, so there is a rogue motion down in West Ashley near the Turbo Cone down the road but the rogue motion formerly used to be A Food Lion, and there's an abandoned Ryan's steakhouse in abandon CVS pharmacy in abandon Jersey Mike's in abandon hair topic in abandon law, firm and abandoned salon in abandon cleaning company, and in an abandoned loans place. You should check it out down in West Ashley. It's right behind Ackerman Park.

yo you need to go and film the radioshack store in summerville. they have lots of cool things in there even though its not entirely a radioshack store anymore. they have lots of cool gadgets and audio things

some reccomendations to do in charleston sc area are the abandoned checkers in goose creek, abandoned wild wing cafe... they are abandoned all over the carolinas so it shouldnt be hard to find one that has closed. and also the abandoned steak n shake in charleston

we really need inner city stores but no one will open them because the robbers get right out to do it again!
Theft and retail correlation has been an unfortunate theme over the past few years. I'm sure it has always been, but it is more prominent now. I do believe that with the right systems in place, it's possible to limit theft, but a lot of companies don't seem to do so.
