I did nothing for 2 years. It was fun for a while then I got depressed. I've since learned it's about balance. We need to work, but a job we love. We need to contribute and make meaningful connections with other human beings. But we also need vacations and adventure. Like all things, it's about balance.

Every day being SATURDAY gets OLD. Retire for a few years and it becomes evident. The key is to really (not give a damn inside about whatever job you're at) Let all that stress go. Don't worry about being fired or whatever. It's sooooooo much easier. In your later years work part-time if you feel like it. Full time is torture. The end.

    • @LiberationSeeker101

@plutoplatters I tend to think same when pondering meaning.. and existence itself. Maybe the Source (God, etc.) gets bored with itself. It is after all.. ONE. As in ALL ONE...A(l)LONE. So here "we" are. 🤷‍♂️
      Like Alan Watts said:
Let's suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream that you wanted to dream. And that you could, for example, have the power within one night to dream 75 years of time. Or any length of time you wanted to have. And you would, naturally as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfill all your wishes.
You would have every kind of pleasure you could conceive. And after several nights of 75 years of total pleasure each, you would say "Well, that was pretty great." But now let's have a surprise.
Let's have a dream which isn't under control. Where something is gonna happen to me that I don't know what it's going to be. And you would dig that and come out of that and say "Wow, that was a close shave, wasn't it?" And then you would get more and more adventurous, and you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream.
And finally, you would dream ... where you are now. You would dream the dream of living the life that you are actually living today.
That would be within the infinite multiplicity of choices you would have. Of playing that you weren't God, because the whole nature of the godhead, according to this idea, is to play that he is not.
So in this idea then, everybody is fundamentally the ultimate reality, not God in a politically kingly sense, but god in the sense of being the self, the deep-down basic whatever there is. And you are all that, only you are pretending you are not. 🙃✌️

6 years ago, after grinding hard for 40 years, I finally burned out. Self employed since 18 years old chasing the dream, married to a person who didn't love me back, supporting her the best that I could, house 1 block from a private country club, nice SUV's, 2 vacations a year and financially supported her family as well and then Covid arrived. My business took a hit, my covert narcissist wife who is now my ex pushed me harder instead of offering support so, I filed for divorce and placed our house on the market. I've been doing nothing but reflect and learn since and although I do enjoy the down time, I have no intentions to fully stop pursuing my dreams but its good to finally take a rest.

Sorry brother. I could be reading my life story. Pretty much exactly what happened to me. I know the feeling. I don't know what comes first. The burn out or the realization that your wife doesn't really love you. But it happened to me too. Worked so hard I got a heart problem at 40. Kept on going. At 47 dystonia. Couldn't work anymore. Wife was somehow gone emotionally. Refused sex already for years. Eventually she stopped talking. Silent treatment for 3 years. Imagine that. She also looked down on me because I couldn't work as hard anymore. I tried though. Just couldn't do it anymore. Tried to solve it but she didn't want to. She filed for divorce. She took our business. Got rewarded a small sum in court but no energy to start again. Burn out will do that to you. Have to figure out a way to make it out of the bay area. Too expensive here. It will be the death of me.

This story I heard helped me to realize it's about perspective. - A rich man went to Mexico for vacation and saw a Mexican fisherman catching a lot of fish. So the rich man said you could get a business LLC and sell fish for money. The Mexican man said then what do I do next? The rich man said then you get the company on the stock market and people will trade for your value of the company. Then the Mexican man said oh what do I do next? The rich man said then you sell your company after 20+ years. Then the Mexican man said what next? The rich man said I guess you get to retire and go fishing. Then the Mexican said.. Oh so you do all that just to retire. I guess I am retired because I am already getting to go fishing...

Wise video. My daughter is 23 now and I’d give anything to go to a carnival with her again when she was 6 or 7 years old. That aside, I’m sitting in my living room resting in relative silence. Sure, prior to leaving the work world at 57 I had those moments BUT, I was clinging to them. Not anymore, these moments of staring at the sky, not having to be anywhere are no longer rushed or clung to, they are part of me. Money issues rear their head sometimes but that was the trade off. The mental and physical stress I’ve endured took its toll. Yes, tired of the rat race. I found a little slice of life. Hope it’s lasts.

Be-ing instead of be-coming. If your child sees a bird it doesn't need to know what kind of bird it is. Otherwise it won't see a bird again. Amazing chat bud. I’m only 22 but I can somewhat relate. University, my 4 internships, past dedications to university business clubs, and my part-time investment management job have led me to burn out. This whole time I followed the expectations of society and desired external validation. I ONLY JUST REALIZED NOW THAT EVERYTHING I HAVE DONE IN MY LIFE WAS NEVER ABOUT ME!!! It was about everyone else! I used to have so much fun learning new things until it became a matter of researching certain topics just so then I don’t seem boring to others. I’m too focused on what other people think about me that I cannot live my life properly. I just want to be me.
I also appreciate that quote about being empty before being full. I have to start over and assess what matters to me.
    1) Running long distances is one of my favourite things to do. Could only do 3km back in May and worked myself up to 21km by September. Going to sign up for a local half marathon once we get the chance
    2) Fingerstyle guitar is another hobby of mine. Unfortunately I’ve become too critical of myself during practice sessions for music theory. I need to tell myself that it’s ok to not know music theory inside out yet. Just play and have fun. When it’s not fun anymore, put it down!
    3) Growing plants. My family owns greenhouses and that’s how we’ve made our fortune. It’s a thankless job and doesn’t pay great but it’s what I love. Maybe I won’t be as respected as an investment banker, but that’s fine. - I can’t rely on external validation anymore. Talked things over with my dad after watching this video and decided I’m going to work there starting in March. This gives me some time to calm down and start from scratch.
Thanks so much man, you’ve helped me craft my next steps!

Man... I'm 45. I went through a similar experience about a year ago. I had been in the same industry for 18 years, the same job for 13. Time at my current job had come to a close. Six months before that, I had started a new relationship with a woman with a small daughter. I also have a daughter, who is now 14... I love her so much. I cherish, more than any single thing, the years when she was young. In 2015, I had a goal to take prerequisites to eventually get into PA school...I went for two semesters, giving it everything I could, a time which meant I had to tell my 5 year old daughter "no" when she wanted to spend time with me. After those two semesters, which I attacked full bore, shooting for straight A's, while being a full time medical device rep, I didn't want to do it anymore. I chose a relationship with my daughter over going to school and a future career as a PA. That is one decision I have never regretted... I loved every damn minute I spent with my daughter. It was the best time in my whole life. Then Covid hit, and before I knew it, she stopped being a little girl. Now, she's 14, and is mostly at her Mom's (I get her a whole 4 days a month).
But, back to 18 months ago, I thought that by focusing on my new partner and her daughter, I was doing the right thing. I helped her through a custody battle, and did what I believed were the right things that a good man should do. Despite all of the effort, she ended things a little over a month ago. It hit me incredibly hard. Some of the worst pain of my life losing her, and that little girl, who by that time had long since started calling me Dad.
Going from having a family to being totally alone, has been a kind of pain I never thought I'd experience at this stage of my life. I miss them so much. But, also, being alone, has forced me to confront myself, and where I am in life. It has forced me to be honest about the changing role of men in relationships, and in the workplace. Where I live, there aren't many opportunities in the job market... It has been a long stare into the great abyss... facing the reality that, a man, once he no longer produces, is disposable. Our culture is so fixated on women and opportunities equaling that of men.. I don't think it pays any attention to men. It's "adapt or survive"... and in life, sometimes that means choosing between being the father you want to be for 4 days a month, or forsaking that for an opportunity at something different. So much of my purpose was taking care of the girls in my life... but, I discovered that my value to them was only as much as I earned. That is an incredibly painful thing to come to terms with. But, it's also freeing, to a point. I don't know what I'm going to do, exactly. But, like you, I want it to be something that pushes me to do it with vigor and passion... traditionally that has meant other people. Now, I am faced with doing for myself and only myself..and as much as I want others to motivate me, that simply isn't an option.
One bit of advice: spend as much time as possible with your daughter. You'll never regret it. Ever. It does go so quickly... soak up all of it you can.... time with her, and your wife... indulge in it. You just never know when life is going to come along and have its own plans with you.

As for my daughter... She has been brainwashed like so many other young girls... and 4 days vs 26 with her Mom is... it's lip service. It's enough time for her Mom to say, "She sees her Dad", and then, when our relationship withers, she can tell our daughter, "I had the same experience with my Dad. I know how it is..." May we all find that regardless of outer circumstances.

I’m 51. 3 kids. Everything I ever did was for my wife and kids. She told me on Valentine’s Day this year that she thought we would be better apart. This was the second time she told me this. The first time was on out 15 year anniversary. I fought to keep her the first time. Granted her wish the second time. Going thru and identity crisis. I let myself make bad financial decisions trying to keep my ex happy. I’m back on track financially now. 50/50 with the kids and focusing energy there but still lost on my purpose. I work. I workout every day. I don’t have any drive anymore though. Just kind of don’t see the point in the life we are told to lead.
I did the formula. School, college, get a job, marriage, kids, dog, house, cars. Blah blah and now I’m a statistic. I want to break out and go. I want to live differently than the “little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky tacky”. But I just don’t know. Not interested in another relationship. All end up the same. Compromise by a thousand paper cuts until you “aren’t the person she fell in love with”. It’s like a cosmic joke

I’m in the same boat, allways hustling for fear of lack. Now I’m making it a goal to have no goals, to throw away the clock and live in the moment. To clear my mind in the stillness and be still and see what comes up and what’s under that. I feel Gods presence more and more as my mind gets quiet. God, without all the religion and baggage. He’s real and good and peaceful.

I retired in 2015 ( after what i term as ' Gulf burnout ' after working nearly 40 years in Dubai ) , and ever since it has been my intentional goal to do NOTHING ! I've grown spiritual and am now enjoying the Bliss ! My only activities are enjoying cooking at home , going out driving into town to do some shopping for groceries, spending a lot of time online pursuing my interests on RUclips, and enjoying the evenings watching the sunset followed by my ' happy hour ' evening drink of Gin n tonic or beer before dinner ! No better place to retire than the Philippines for me as I have a lovely filipina wife who takes care of every thing at home including our family business which helps put food on the table for all of our extended family.

We don't really want anything but a safer environment for our offspring. We as a human race want to get back in touch with more than the 5 senses we're limited to everyday. Incorporate some meditation during your leisure. The human body/mind has hidden features that we were never aware of. Developing those skills should be our first priority growing up. This world would be better for it. The next roadmap should be learning your spirit better and what it's capable of.

So many of us are living the husstle-struggle. I've been grinding for years and know the anxiety you mentioned when things stop. Thankfully with age we learn to understand (and hopefully accept) the creatures we are, the good and the ugly. A yearly trip to the mountains for a week of tech-free solitude is my own counter-measure. We are wired for the curves of nature! All these hard city lines are a source of this growing anxiety we all have! haha.

I needed this video. Thank the algorithm for suggesting it. I recently was laid off from my 3rd job this year.. I've always been someone who bounced back and kept working. Never really getting ahead, but making money to pay the bills. But I'm burnt.. I'm lonely and tired. Missing friends I never could find time for who will never be there again, wishing I could spend more time with my family.
I see them getting older now and I wonder how much quality time I have left. Do I want to go back to truck driving and make money, risk my life, health and time, for a little more money to pay bills on possessions that don't matter, or do I want to try and pursue a career in music again, even if it means I don't know where the next dollar will be, or when, but I'll be happier cus I'll be available to family and friends, and can try again at a dream/passion that ended abruptly years ago. Not sure what I'm gonna do but I really needed this video to help me pause a little more and think about it all..

A job honestly doesn’t gives you the time, space and opportunity to chase your dreams and achieve your goals. From personal experience i can tell you working a serious job is modern day slavery. they pay you a small amount for doing a significant amount of work and promises you promotion. Best advice make investments and take calculated risks that would guarantee your success.

This is really not as difficult as many people presume it to be. It requires a certain level of diligence, no doubt, which is something ordinary investors lack, and so a financial advisor often comes in very handy. That is how people are able to make such huge profits in the market.

The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment

I am a medical student and I am going to be a doctor by July 2025. The whole medicine sector is all about hustling. Working from 7:00 till 18:00 everyday is no deal for many people I know. If they see their gf, wife or family for one hour per day, they are good. Some of my co-workers see their close ones only on weekends...
Every day I see sick and old people. It is crazy to see that 75 years are completly different from person to person. Some are young and fit, other ones are close to death, mostly because of their life choices.
I am 25 at the moment and I think about what my life will be like in a few years on a daily basis. The biggest fear I have right now is to be like many of my co-workers. I don't care about fame or money in the medical sector, I just want to do good and have a good life besides that.
I don't want to be 65 years someday and realise, that I made the wrong life choices (Job, Friends, Partner,...).
At the end of the day the most important thing we can achieve as humans is happiness imo. I still have much to learn about this life long lession, but I think that I am on the right track.

First of all happy birthday man I definitely feel your pain however here’s my story
I’m a nice guy gave my whole heart to a woman in just 4 days of strong connection she felt I’m getting closer to her so she just disappeared left me shattered and the worst part is I don’t have her number or where she lives, my strong bond to her breaks me into pieces and everyday I’m looking for her in places we hangout, I just can’t forget about her everyday I wake her memories is right on my mind scattered all over my heart. I look for help but no therapist has ever achieved anything in-terms of being helpful. It’s been 3 months something is keep on pushing me to go out and look for her. My sister say my heart’s love is so genuine that she couldn’t resist but to leave, I’m so stuck in emotional trauma that reminded me of my childhood trauma when my parents dumped me and my sister on street. This girl really triggered my emotional abandonment. I hope she realizes her mistake and comes back to me so I can recover from the humongous pain she caused me Amin🙏🏼
In this case I don’t know how solve my issue because I lack confidence and suck at dating any girl all my teenage years to now 30s I don’t have a girlfriend so I asked myself am I meant to be alone if I’m pushing myself to get a girlfriend just looking for external love 😞
