  • A biogas digester in these temperate climates needs a good house to keep it nice and warm. In these climates the digester will need to be heated most of the year so to try and make it as efficient as possible, and set it up so I can use a small solar system in the future, I have gone big! I have at least 30cm of insulation all around and more on top.
All of the materials, apart from the screws and nails, are reused from other things around the property. Old fencing are the 2x4s and old shed are the side panels. All the insulation was left over from when our house was build 10 years ago!

Hello, greetings from Germany. I am currently also building a similar biogas plant from 2 clamping ring barrels, each 120L, as a before and after fermenter with agitator and heating. I hope to finish the project in autumn. I currently have other construction sites.. 😅 I think it's particularly good that you've also thought about how to get the dirt out of there. This is not the case with most other DIY plants. 😁

Cheers. Good luck with your biogas project! Sounds like a nice design

have you thought about painting the outside black or using yakisugi/sho sugi ban to char some untreated wood (and moisture protet it at the same time) i do this for my raised beds and it raises the soil temp by several degrees

Is that an aquarium heater for heating? No issues doing that?

Yeah a pond heater. So far so good. The element is protected behind glass so it won't corrode very fast. Weakness is the plastic at the top...time will tell how long that lasts.

If pond heater proves problematic, try a brewers heat pad, digester will sit on the pad and it’s thermostatically controlled

that looks ideal for our climate, is it producing gas now ?

What climate are you in? Yes, but had some issues with my scrubbers so on to the next problem! haha

I've been watching your videos wondering when you would address the issue of heat. This answers my question. Great videos man, appreciate the no nonsense build
