How to build biogas scrubbers at home
Getting my biogas scrubbers working is one of the last tasks in my new setup. I have always wanted to have the scrubbers and gas storage in the strawbale shed but until now it wasn't possible. With space now available I took the chance to upgrade the biogas scrubbers one more time, hopefully it will be the last. I really like these as they are easy to change, you can see in side them and they are relatively simple to install.

A cosy house for the digester // Any good biogas digester in a temperate climate needs a cosy home
Просмотров 4 тыс.2 года назад
A biogas digester in these temperate climates needs a good house to keep it nice and warm. In these climates the digester will need to be heated most of the year so to try and make it as efficient as possible, and set it up so I can use a small solar system in the future, I have gone big! I have at least 30cm of insulation all around and more on top. All of the materials, apart from the screws ...
Its full of crap!
Просмотров 14 тыс.2 года назад
Now my biogas digester is setup it is time to fill it up! This means a lot of cow manure. Its not a very exciting process but one I thought I would share with you all as it is a small, but important part of creating a working biogas digester at home. To start my digester I am using cow manure and water. I am trying to keep the ratio at least 50:50, if not a bit more cow manure to water. Once th...

Throughout my strawbale build I have had the occasional rat issue, mostly down to not moving forward fast enough, leaving materials around for rats to get into. When I finished plastering the building I thought it was all sealed up, but apparently it is not! After spotting some alarming signs I decided it was time to finally deal with the rat issue for good. How I emptied and moved my Biogas digester
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 года назад
Sometime your biogas digester is not in the right place, but when they are full they are almost impossible to move. As I have been building the current location of my digester is not ideal so in this video I empty the digester so I can move it to its new home. My digester does not have a drain valve so I experiment with a few ways to remove the digestate. I also give my biogas digester its firs...
Lime and Clay Natural plaster // Burnishing
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.3 года назад
Lime and clay plaster is an amazing material to work with. It has taken me some time to really feel comfortable with it, so I can get the best out of it. In this video I show you how I get what I would call a rustic burnished finish on the final coat of lime and clay plaster on my strawbale build. I go through the steps in the application process and give my recipe for the lime and clay plaster...
Floor, doors, plastering and more // Strawbale Build PART
Просмотров 3413 года назад
Progress is being made! A lot of progress. It's been a few weeks since my last video but I wanted to make sure I have something a bit substantial to show you all. As I have mentioned before learning about all the techniques and little points to do with this style of natural building has meant I am going pretty slow. I feel it is paying off though and hopefully you can see that the build is look...
First wall finished // Boarding & Plastering inside // Strawbale build IX
Просмотров 2693 года назад
Another Strawbale build update. Big milestone, one wall is finished! Natural building is a slow process, so I am learning. With the weather, sourcing materials and waiting for plaster to dry it can't be rushed. This week we have been really pushing to get it to a stage where all the walls are first coated and inside is complete. We tried at least...
Strawbale Build Update: Plastering and boarding // Strawbale Build PART VII
Просмотров 3613 года назад
A quick update about my strawbale build. Its a slow old process but some serious progress is being made. I have learnt a lot about natural building during this build, especially plastering. I've got a lot faster and it is turning out much better.
Rats, plastering and camera issues // Strawbale Build Part VI

It's been a bit of a long month with the plastering of the strawbales. I guess natural building can go like that. This is an update of the progress, unfortunately I have had some technical issues (and a holiday) so haven't been able to do as much as I would have liked. Hopefully this will get you up to speed with where I am at with the whole build.
Experimenting with Natural lime plasters // Part II // Test results & first wall
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.3 года назад
The recipe for lime & clay plaster will vary depending on the site. I have done some experimenting with the clay on my site to find out what would be the best recipe for my strawbale build. Using natural plasters like clay and lime plasters is relatively simple but can seem a little daunting when first starting, it did to me. The best way to get over that is to experiment with small patches and...
How to make a wood-fired cob pizza oven from scratch // Make delicious stone baked pizza at home
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.3 года назад
Low-tech wood-fired pizza oven build. I absolutely love homemade stone baked pizza, so I built myself a cob pizza oven. Here I go through the whole process from building the base, to the oven itself. I hope to show that it is really easy and does not cost much, if anything at all. You can make an oven from dirt and salvaged materials. The wood-fired oven gives the pizzas a great taste and cooks...

Low-tech DIY Rocket Stove Water Heater PART I // Construction
You measured and cut the feeding tube so precisely and then just cut a random length off the other side lol 😅
Do you have to use a pump to circulate biogas?
You need a flexible trowel for your burnishing! It will make corners a breeze…
Hey man, looks really cool. Is there anything you'd do differently down the line now? Want to make one 👍
Hi! I am a college student from the Philippines and is wondering how can I formally contact you? I have a few questions regarding water scrubbing and hope to have a discussion with you 😊
Should use all plastic parts the methane will degrade metal
looks great. Only thing I would do is put it in a ventilated box outside.
Thanks a lot❤ Needed it for a project of mine
Can anyone clarify me four pips installed on the top first for inlet 2nd is gas outlets third is for mixing and what for the fourth which is very thin and installed on the side
I have also made same model in 200 litter drum all is fine but when surly came out from outlet h need air "from where come that air" so that gas Which stores in tube, that gas goes back to drum, do you have any solution for this problem
Suggetion what if you made a magnetic sterrer at the bottom so that its easy to stir inside
How long before the water is saturated with CO2 and needs replacing? Also; the solubility of the CO2 is higher the lower the water temperature. ie: running water to the bubbler with a float valve and using evaporative cooling like wicks to both slowly empty it and cool it may be an idea. Good wicks are carbon felt as found in oven filters, welding screens, etc and in the activated carbon filter that should in fact be the last stage in your filtration system..! Or you could simply use a piezoelectric pond mister. Evaporation cools both the water and the air the water evaporates into, so the cooled air could be used indirectly (smell) for efficient home cooling... You certainly DO NOT want the (same old water) water bubbler inside the hot greenhouse and/or in the sun..! As it's moist iron oxide that reacts with/filters out sulphur dioxide do not put a drier before the steel wool. You want it to rust. www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/iron-sponge-process Water vapour disassociates into hydrogen and oxygen at flame temperatures where it immediately burns to water again but it suppresses soot production in the process. www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0360319921025581 So the wisdom of removing water vapour at all, is in question..?
Great video
How often do you need to change the filter mediums?
I love the trial and error parts included. It lets people know that they are going to run into challenges. So many time I have found myself in the same situation. "Okay how do I make this happen" then you just climbed up on top and made it happen lol. Love it. Very nicely done! new subscriber gained.
Nice. Just one suggestion from a point of safety regarding gas. Only takes a few minutes tops. No matter how many clamps or fittings or plumbers tape are used. Once set-up is complete put the system from start to end under pressure. Use good old fashioned soapy water. Check ALL connections for possible gas leaks.
My thoughts too
Yes this is very important
Thanks for this informative tutorial, I would like to know more about second jar, what did you use . I see white powder, it's of which material or component?
You could just use rabbit poo too I think
How often should each filter need to be changed? Or is there a way to test it?
Please what are the contents of the 3 scrubber. I know one is water, what about the other 2. Thank you
How are your systems doing??
Put a bit of pickling lime in the water to precipitate the CO2.
Does the order in which the purification done matter?
hi, can an alkaline solution instead of distilled water when removing CO2 in the purification of methane.
I want to see this operate an instant water heater
I'd love to see it put on an furnace.
How do you replennish the CO2 reaction in water? Maximum von entrationbwill be reached and then? Baking Soda? Calcium containing chalk-Rock? Regular change of water?thanks
Good day. Thank you for the video. I built a similar digester here in Namibia but I have a challenge of gas leaking out between the universal seals and the pipe. Do you have any sealant to suggest?
Thanks for this. Really clever using cat litter. Hadn‘t thought of that. For heating, would maybe encasing your digester in compost be a reasonable heat source for avoiding decommissioning in winter? It would require a high heat compost with enough nitrogen and cellulose, but seems like a good off-grid thing worth experimenting with.
When using that type of hole saw, it is possible to enlarge the hole by fitting the original size hole saw, inside the larger hole saw. This will help, centre the larger hole saw, and stop it sliding about.
Might be better to put the steel wool after the water and the dessication medium (cat litter) last. Two reasons. -The hydrogen sulphide reacts with iron oxide, water is needed to rust the steel wool to make the iron oxide available. - reaction of iron oxide and hydrogen sulphide produces iron sulphide and water, but your dessication medium is before the steel wool, so there is nothing to remove this water.
Suis très curie de savoir comment fabriquer le biogas dans le fut plastique de 200lts merci mes conduire pour avoir cette nouveau technologie
The h2s scrubs better with humidity so you should go through the water then the wool then kitty litter
Those top pipe not airtight will d gas not leak out or have air ingress?
I didn't get d name of d gas drier you mentioned
You should remove the H2S first because it scrubs better with humidity
Thanks for nice explaination brother
Any luck with the gas? What are you doing with your scrubbed gas in the bag? Are you going to use it to generate electricity or something else? Did you build a water heater to get the temperature up in the digester? I have a lot of grass and am wondering If I'd be able to produce bio gas from it. Hope you've not given up?
I guess you don't get pressure enough, might need an air pump to push it through.
I enjoyed the video. What thickness is the gas holder ?
Good job but how can I learn about it from the starting to the end
RUclips is a 1st amendment sucking platform but they are good for some content, thnx for the video brother
So I just built a chicken shack by watching RUclips videos.and now I'm building a Cobb oven by watching RUclips videos lol
would this get rid of odor in biogas
..yes yess stop..how long..how deep become the pipe's !??
Thank you for making the video. The explanation was detailed and very helpful. The function of stirrer is interesting. It was helpful to make a biogas system for my house.
Any news on this build? Looks amazing, would love some stats on production.
Exactly what I was looking for🎉
I promise you that you aren't pulling the CO2 out with that bottle of water. Biogas is roughly 1/3 CO2 and you can't remove it with water.
You should add an activated carbon filter after the steel wool. My understanding is that it removes VOCs. Cleaner burn and you don't have to store them in your gas bag.
Also should consider adding a condenser to remove water vapor(perhaps mason jars in a water bath. It might work) after the water and before everything else.
ALSO ALSO I'm pretty sure that you want a base in the water to remove acids. Bleach should work. Water alone won't do much as it has a neutral PH. Plus there is already water vapor in the Biogas.
