I think this is a great pattern stitch for a cowl...nice and stretchy to pass over the head. Also, it's dense enough to keep the neck warm against cold wind. BTW...when making cowls, I usually work into the full stitch at the end of the row, not just the back stitch...it helps to keep the edges neat. Thanks for another great idea.🤗
The wrong side is pretty. I would be happy to use this ribbing in a reversible project, or to use the wrong side as the right side for a decorative ribbing. Thank you for demonstrating this stitch. You tips will come in handy.
Thanks for including the ‘mistake stitch’ that was hiding in the ribbing. It is my reality! Sometimes I can not accept frogging immediately, but have to wait a couple of days when I am not longer attached to the time I just put into the work. Better to frog late, then never😅
Yes, with me it varies if I correct something or not. That one I probably would have corrected if it was a real project, not just a sample, it showed too much!
Dear Tuula, Thank you for sharing…I’ve always wanted to learn how to make the knitted look crochet ribbing. It looks very simple and easy to do. Take care and God’s blessings to you always 🙏🏽🩷🧶😻🥰🪻🌷🐶
Thank you so much for this tutorial… I’m so happy to have come across your channel because I was wondering if I should just knit the ribbing on hat, and now I found your tutorial… you’re really a wonderful teacher ☺️
I have used the first stretch ribbing but not the second example. Very much looking forward to trying it out as I have never seen it before. It's true what they say, you are never too old to learn something new. Thank you.
A pattern I’m following right now calls this the “yarn over slip stitch” except it repeats for every row. It is nice to see your version. Thank you for sharing.
RUclips always skips showing all comments, only saw this one now! There are probably various names for this, it doesn't really look like a real stitch at all, sort of a mixture 😊
Another great tutorial! I really like the looks of it. I find it really awkward to add knit ribbing to crochet and I have always ended up frogging any attempt of it. So I will definitely try this out. I second your opinion on it looking really cool with chunky wool, the pink swatch you showed would look really cool on a simple beanie or a scarf/cowl! :)
I am always amazed with what I learn from your videos. I've never seen this type of single crochet and I really like it. By the way, do you have written instructions for the bird ornament? I am trying to write them for a friend, but would love it if I didn't have to! Many thanks.
Great, thank you! No, unfortunately no written pattern for the bird. It has so many parts, would require several testers to have a proper written pattern.
Thank you. I Don't crochet garments because of the way ribbing looks. This stitch cures that problem. How do you know how many stitches to use. Say your garment starts with 100 stitches. How many stitches would you need for the ribbing to stretch to 100 stitch length?
The ribbing and the garment rows point in different directions, for the ribbing the amount of stitches creates the height of the ribbing. So you need to think of how many rows of ribbing you need before starting the main part of the garment. That will depend on how much you want the ribbing to pull the main part of the garment. I'm showing one way to pick the stitches on the video, so that there is two in between each knit-look row. With that amount the part that starts from the ribbing will be clearly wider than the ribbed part. If you don't need that, you could pick only one stitch between the knit-look rows, or alternate between picking one or two. For something like this it is worth making a good size gauge swatch, more than the usual 10 cm.
I have this video with a jar opener. It just has 2 rubber nets crocheted together using single crochets. I would add a round of reverse single crochets too. ruclips.net/video/Uyc5ps6dQdk/видео.html
Thank you for watching! See also a video about smoother edges in single crochet: ruclips.net/video/u6GVThSk7Z8/видео.html

True, ideal for a cowl! Thank you for that tip, that would definitely work well for the edges!
The wrong side is pretty. I would be happy to use this ribbing in a reversible project, or to use the wrong side as the right side for a decorative ribbing. Thank you for demonstrating this stitch. You tips will come in handy.
Yes, I'm sure it could be used that way too! The wrong side isn't bad-looking, just not so clearly ribbing.
Thanks for including the ‘mistake stitch’ that was hiding in the ribbing. It is my reality! Sometimes I can not accept frogging immediately, but have to wait a couple of days when I am not longer attached to the time I just put into the work. Better to frog late, then never😅
I'm the same way! If it's for myself, I'll probably decide not to frog. If It's for someone else, I will! Gotta be perfect 😉 right!?

@@susanvampressqueencolvin4721 True, would also depend on who the item was for!
@@TuulaMaaria exactly 💯 %. I do have friends who'd say the mistake gives it character. Um... ok 😐
@@susanvampressqueencolvin4721 There is a Finnish crochet author who deliberately makes at least one mistake in all her projects! 😄
Love this technique! I can’t wait to try it myself 😊. Happy Mother’s day and thank you! 🫶🏻🧶
Thank you! Hope you will enjoy the technique!

Thank you, yes with your guidance I’m sure I can do it. And I love your beanie🙏🏽🩷🧶😻🐶🌷🌻🪻
Thank you for this tutorial. My mothers wants a headband and this seems the perfect stitch for that.
True, this stitch is ideal for headbands, I hadn't thought of that!
Hello Tuula thank you for a good tutorial and a new way of doing ribbing with crochet. Have a great day.
Thank you, you too!
That looks a lot easier than all slip stitches in back loop thankyou 😊
Glad to hear!
As always a very useful tutorial 🧶
Lovely, thank you!
Always something new and useful! Thank you ma'am! ❤️
Great, thank you!

Great! Certainly true, we can always learn new things
THX Tuula🎉! Beautiful view! Also, Happy Mother's Day. ❤. 🤗🥰🙏
Thank you!
I loved the to on how to pick up stitches on the end of the row. I would have only done 2 stitches. Thanks for that
Great! That may vary a bit depending on the yarn and what the item is for but on average I would pick that many.
Thank you! I'm sure I've never seen this before!
Glas to have something new to show!
Thank you Tuula. This is very interesting and very useful too!
Glad to hear, thank you!
Thanks for the speedy reply. I’ve almost got it.
Thank you Tuula 😊.
Thank You. I'll definitely be trying this. I'm not very fond of the other crochet ribbing.
Lovely!
Very cool thanks for sharing❤ Blessings
Thank you!
Thank you fot the lesson.
You are welcome!
Very nice thank you for sharing 😊
I like the look of this
Great!

Oh that's a good name for it too. I've been calling it extended slip stitch.

Thank you! I was actually surprised how nice the chunky wool looked like with this stitch, I hadn't tried it before with such thick wool!
I like that. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely!

❤❤❤
Very nice but it is easier for me to do this ribbon part using knitting.
Yes, I know many people who do that. There's extra work in the joining then but the ribbing can be stretchier when knitted.
First rows can be a pain 😅
