Shimura : What is the most important thing for a samurai, Jin ? Jin : Protecting the people. Shimura [surprised, smile] : You are very kind children, Jin. But that's wrong. What's the most important thing for a samurai is honour. Because [...] Jin was always thinking about the people more about himself, and probably wanted to be an hero because he couldn't save his father and felt like a coward a long time ago. He never changed, even with the training Shimura gave to him. But ultimately, in both endings, he loves and never hate him. They love each other but still duel to death. It's sad but beautiful at the same time. Masterpiece.
Now that some time has passed, I realize how good this game was. The evolution of Jin during the story, the beauty of the sceneries, the combat that is not so bad, the epic soundtrack and one of the best endings of video games with two spectacular choices that managed to divide the players of the game in two. In my opinion, Ghost of Tsushima beat TLOU 2 and deserved the GOTY.
I love how this ending, unlike most games, isn't a choice between a "good" or a "bad" ending, their both natural, their both pure, their both so filled with clashing emotions and principles. This game is really something else.
That's what I love about the ending, it still has me thinking which choice was the better one. Giving Shimuru the honourable death yes allows them to have a moment ot reconciliation in the end, and would be the expected thing in Japanese culture, but it also leaves Jin with the pain of having to kill his only family left. But Jin refusing to kill him can be seen as a selfish decision, leaving his uncle in great dishonour and have to commit Seppuku as his only choice left to retain honour. So what's more selfish, Jin refusing to give his Uncle and honourable death in order to be free of the code that wronged him, or Shimuru refusing to defy the code for the sake of his family, and giving Jin the truama of killing his last blood relative? We understand Shimuru is bound to his duty and he never truly wanted to fight Jin in the first place, but isn't it selfish to only think of your own desire's and not the pain it will cause your family? Then again, didn't Jin do the same in the choice ending?
The 2nd ending has to be canon. The entire game he questions his honor, the ending where he spares him is the accumulation of that. He finally embraces his own code and doesn't kill his father like he did before. It makes the most sense at least to me.
But the first ending also make sense Jin became a ruthless war criminal (in feudal Japan standard) who have killed his best friend because he was a traitor (he did that when his best friend asked for mercy and forgiveness). Why would he spare his uncle who asked him to kill him honorably and who will continue to track him until the end of his life (and also threatening the integrity of Yuna his soul mate) ?
@@le_realiste2394 because a) Shimura does not betray the Japanese people (which is where Jin's devotion lies), he will only threaten Jin alone, b) Jin knows that Shimura does not do this because he likes it, he deeply grieves this as well, and c) sometimes there are lines that you just do not cross. Especially when you have the code.
I chose to kill Shimura because I wanted to respect his most heartfelt wish as a final sign of love and respect to Jin's uncle. To me it had nothing to do with the samurai code or honour, just respect. This is all subjective though, everyone plays their own version of Jin Sakai
Best upload of the ending with the highest quality. I chose to spare Shimura’s life. Jin could have killed Shimura and abided to the samurai code, but I felt that defying it for the sake of the people he loved was Jin’s driving force throughout the game.
Really tough choice, but I choose to kill shimura. He would have likely committed seppuku anyways from failing the shogun and losing to Jin. I felt that Jin could at least do him that last service, not for his own honor, but because he realizes how important shimuras honor is to Shimura. I still feel that either choice could be correct, depending on how you look at it as the player.
I know what your trying to say and you probably won’t see this reply since it’s 5 months late but the game implies that the Shogun let Shimura live after his duel with Jin.
I chose the other ending. I understand your point of view and I thought about that too, but I saw it differently. During all the story, Jin was questioning more and more if the code of honor he always respected was fair. The Mongols were destroying Tsushima and what was the point of being honorable to them. So, I saw the dishonorable ending as an answer for Jin or a final demonstration that he no longer believed in honor.
What an absolutely beautiful ending. Killing shimura and honoring him as a warrior, is so heartbreaking, while also being so respectful. My fuck sucker punch knocked it out of the park with this game
I chose to honor him and sacrifice him cause in the end it’s like it restored my honor and it felt like Jin and lord sakai came to even terms at the ending while if Jim left him you can feel resent and just sadness
This is easily, one of my fav games in gaming history since 1994 (when i started to play). The cinematic, the art direction, the acting, the dialogues, the feelings, the music, eveything is top notch! After seeing AC Shadows, that game will never be able to do this...GOT, it's in another level!
i couldn't do it because all i could think about was how Lord Shimura would spend the rest of his days knowing he failed the shogun and ultimately, Jin.
@@croweyjoey2371 I knew it. The kill seemed the most logical thing to do for Shimura, but spare seemed more logical for Jin and his story. Of course it'd be spare 💁
I think both endings are valid, but killing him is not for the sake of Jin’s own honour it is for the sake of honouring his uncle, shimura still treasured Jin’s life up until the end and he didn’t want to live out his days hunting him/seeing him hunted.
Let him alive is for me the right choice because jin is no longer a samurai and have no reason to follow the samurai rules. Jin choose the ghost way, he can do what ever he want.
I like the voice acting for both, but prefer the English, just because the lip reading and facial expressions of the characters better match what's on the screen. I wish they had done the mocap for both languages though
@@Mr_Machete89 Yes you always watch or play something in the original version. When the game is set in English you should play it in English because thats the best acting.
The game is 10x better in Japanese prove me wrong
I could not agree more. The emotions are completely different and seem more real to the point of making me cry.
I mean how do not play a Japanese samurai game in Japanese? Plus Jin has the same voice actor as Zoro
I play the game in spanish and yes i can confirm you that the japanese 🇯🇵 is wat better , more passionate and intense.
The voice acting is second to none in Japanese. Japanese or bust

That last sentence. I don't even believe that's opinion. That is an absolute fact. Real ones know Ghost got robbed😭

when the music hits in both endings CHILLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Thanks for the simple editing with no commentary and also with the music. Loved it

Yeap i fully agree sparing him its actually worse than killing him.
@@raizaya how so?
Jin as a samurai would kill him for honoring him but the ghost would absolutely spare him because he sees things from a different/better perspective

It’s much better to kill him
if the voice sounds familiar, the guy that voices Zoro in One piece voiced the main character for this game
Shimura is Blackbeard

hearing zoro's voice actor cry hurts my soul

Honestly walking away feels the most natural. I'm happy i chose to spare Lord Shimura.

@varrenxarcath
I thought the same. But after watching countless history videos... its sad to say the chance he will commit harakiri is pretty big.
Fuck honor I was with Jin the whole time. Although some parts felt a bit forced.
True ending is where he spare lord shimura
The spare option is most likely going to be the cannon option.
Np unfortunately Nate confirmed spare as cannon when death is what I picked!

The Ghost path is canon. Jin is not a Samurai anymore. His time being a samurai ended when he began assassinating the Mongols.
