  • Sadly the facial animations are in English, but still - Kurosawa filter is so cool. And it truly feels like an old samurai movie. Also - this has reduced HUD as well.
    Enjoy!

I choose not to kill him, because Lord Shimura concept of Honor diverges greatly from the concept of Jin

Agreed. Even a historian that they interviewed for the game said Jin embodies what a Samurai was in this period. While Shimura's way is outdated. The game does a magnificent job to show how contradicting Bushido really was at times.

I preferred not killing Shimura because in that ending, Jin completely owns becoming the "Ghost" by refusing to take part in an honor killing

Shinura was the perfect Ideal of a Samurai. Kazumasa was the perfect extreme of a samurai. Jin was the Human of a Samurai.

I 'liked' this not for the Kurosawa filter, but because you went with what I consider the 'good' ending and didn't even bother showing the other. Hard choice in the moment, but I'm glad I went L2. Came to RUclips to see R2. And everyone seems to think R2 Spare good, L2 Kill bad. But after watching both cutscenes, how could people think that? Jim doesn't want to kill his uncle, but uncle wants the honorable death. Sparing is selfish, killing is selfless. Honor is the main theme of the game, is most important to uncle. Sparing him, you see the anger in uncle's face. Kill him, you call him father, he calls you son, he wants to see you in the next life. Redemption. It's 'sad' but not 'bad'. Their relationship ends on a good note, even though you kill him. Interesting paradox. It's a far more powerful, beautiful ending. The other is just 'yup, you're right, I have no honor' and walk away.
So yea, thanks for the upload - for the Kurasawa filter, and for the better ending.

To Spare is considered the good ending, because it fits Jin's transformation into basically Batman. Plus the sun is shining, as you peacefully write something, wearing red. Meanwhile, in the other, you wake up after a nightmare. Dressed in white (color of death), in the middle of night.

@@IchbinX yea, both endings make sense, sparing is consistent with Jin's breaking from code/tradition like you say. But he also wants to mend relationship with uncle.
It's cool how there's only one choice in the entire game. One very powerful important choice at the end.

@@daviddruen858 Oh yeah, at the end of the day, both are grey. I just think Sucker Punch 'meant' for the Spare to be the "good" ending. I personally think the Honorable Death is beautiful. I just chose to Spare based off of what Jin's been about the whole time.

By choosing "kill" option you choose the option that a samurai would do, neglecting the entire character development of Jin Sakai. By the end of the game he is no longer a samurai, but a man, who will do what must be done for the sake of those whom he loves. Including his uncle. The entire first arc is him betraying his traditions for his uncle, so that he could rescue him.
Which is why choosing to kill the person, who was the reason the entire plot happens because of, is... questionable. Not unaccaptable, but very questionable.
You might say that Jin wants to honor his uncle so that he wouldn't live in life of dishonor, but Jin's mind is far beyond that. What is more important, by choosing to not kill his uncle, you choose the option to potentially continue their story, where Jin might try to change his mind as well. But if you kill him - that's it, there is no potential to grow, no future, a choice that "honors" a samurai, but not the Ghost.
This is entirely my point of view, but choosing to kill, you erase the entire development of the Ghost, which is not the best thing narratavely-wise.
On the other side killing him provides sense of despair and loss, a finale stroke that shows what happened to the samurai, who chose to abandon his ideals, giving it more value. Which is why it could mean more to some people and which is why I can see why it could work in some sense.
Both endings are acceptable, but killing option to me looks like an option for drama sake more than an edning that this particular character would do.
After all... Ghost of Tsushima has no honor. And this exact line is said only in one ending.

Agreed, thematically I think it works better based on the conversation they had before the duel. When Jin tell's Shimura he is a slave to honor I believe Jin understands the only way to set Shimura free from that is one of them dying. Tragic, but the love and admiration they have for each other even though neither can get past each others values at the end is beautiful.
