    This was my first Xbox 360. Got it in 2013. I was a Wii kid growing up, so I didn't get a 360 or PS3 until way later on because I felt like I had to defend my choice of console lol.

    My first 360 was an E actually. I had a PlayStation 2 up until that point and was in dire need of a newer system. It's so odd seeing people not knowing what this model was. To me, it was the main 360.

    • @G360LIVE

      It's odd to you because it was a console you spent a lot of time with. For most people, we had the 360 at launch, the one that was notorious for the RROD. Then we had the S model. Since Microsoft only spent about a minute showing and talking about the E model, and since everyone, back then, was focused on all the Xbox One controversy (online required, Kinect required, TV, sports, TV, etc.), it's understandable how people missed the E.

    • @NickEgberss
      @NickEgberss 2 года назад +5

      For me the E was also the first. I bought it together with my little brother, my parents didn’t have any money at al so we had to buy it, since the Xbox one was way to expensive for us. But yeah there are a lot of Xbox 360 models. I think at one moment I had them al, all second hand of course just to try them out. But for me the E was the best. But yeah that is just my opinion.

      A bit of an overreach. People would rightfully be up in arms if you couldn't even play second hand games anymore, or your own disc if you happened to be offline for a while. Calling people hypocrites just because of the backlash is a conflation of *many* issues (not just one) that this presentation could have led to and seems rather narcissistic to me.

    What's kinda sad is all of the stuff that Microsoft tried to do 10 years ago is being cheered and embraced now. They were ahead of the curve and digital has taken over physical and people are seemingly OK with online and digital restrictions. Once again, convenience has won the market and I'm torn on it.

    • @eternaldarkness3139
      @eternaldarkness3139 2 года назад +19

      They were also fined for Monopolistic practices.
      Now we cheer as they buy up all these software companies.
      Nothing better for capitalism than megacorps owning everything.
      Game exclusivity should only last 1 - 2 years. More unit sales for developers, still gives added incentive for consumers console of choice.

    • @Woodzta
      @Woodzta 2 года назад +11

      Convenience always wins, implementation always matters. 'all of the stuff that Microsoft tried to do 10 years ago is being cheered and embraced now'. That's not true. You might have a closer case if Microsoft didn't bother to release a disc version Series. Even then one time checks for Smart Delivery could be considered a necessary evil for an increasingly online world. Plus after it's done, you can still go offline for as long as you want, play whenever you want, or give your game away to whoever you want if you please.
      The online service based model may have been the goal that Microsoft wanted to reach, but they absolutely took a different path getting there than they originally intended. I think it's something to be thankful for.

    • @Coreisus
      @Coreisus 2 года назад +10

      Yea, it's all super convenient until you get messaged to your dashboard from Microsoft or Sony saying you can't play this game anymore cuz its Developers have decided to pull it from the servers, or etc.
      Happened on my PS4 with the Bioshock remastered collection.... went to boot it up, after an update and before any of the logos, or main menu, there was a 30 page thing to read and accept before I could play, that stated Bioshock Trilogy Remastered is NOT my game, it's Take2's game and they reserve the right to decide who gets to play it or if it's playable at all. And that the game is subject to be removed from the store at any time under various circumstances, and could, depending on licensing, need to be repurchased by me in the event it's removed and reuploaded to the store.
      And all new games have that metadata built in to them.
      So you can't search or say bad things on your console internet browser or in chat, cuz if you get banned, you can't play the game you paid $80 for.
      And also even if you're a good boy, the devs could decide you don't own it cuz of their own licensing issues at any time.
      I mean I still play mainly digital games..... but it's worth knowing.

      I’m kinda impressed that you can still buy games off XBLA and they haven’t mentioned shutting it down.
      My only gripe is they promised they would do full Xbox backwards compatibility like the Wii and og PS3 but really they stopped far too early like right after I decided to give away my beloved Xbox. Games like Battlefield 2 or SSX tricky I’ll never be able to play until I get another og Xbox.

    I remember that E3. What an absolute train wreck. "Tone deaf" doesn't exactly do it justice. This was also right when the Snowden NSA leaks came out, so everyone was freaked out about the Kinect always listening. The 360 E was about the only good thing that came out of it. Was a lot nicer piece of kit than the PS3 Super Slim.

    • @ohmnesia

      Microsoft's problem is that they weren't offering anything people wanted in exchange for the presence of those microphones and cameras. People like Siri because they can ask a question and get an answer. If you could do that with Kinect, I'm sure people would've welcomed that. But all Microsoft offered was voice commands that people already did via remote control by simply pressing a button. Microsoft acted as if changing the channel on your TV was this super-futuristic thing. lol
      Also, I remember when there was talk of Microsoft wanting to use Kinect to sense how many people were in the room, to limit the number of people who could watch a rented movie. If too many people were in the room, the movie you rented wouldn't play. That was the idea, and I remember that people just hated that.

    This was my first Xbox 360 and the main reason I am into online gaming as much as I am now. It completely sucked me into the world of online gaming and Xbox Live Party chats, and I’ve never looked back (outside of a brief run with the PS4 from 2015-2017, because of the failures from the Xbox One). I loved my Xbox 360, and it’s still my favorite system of all time! So many good games, so many good friends, so much Xbox Live beef and drama, it was the most fun I’ve ever had! Back in 2013, Minecraft paired with Black Ops 2 and some friends (in my case, my sister, cousins, and our online friends) was the best!! We used to make our own Minecraft Hunger Games maps and Mini Game maps, and that was always a lot of fun! We’d also jump into a Black Ops 2 private lobby and try to defend the top-bunk of the bed in one of the houses on Nuketown. Man, I could go on and on for hours. That was still the most fun I’ve ever had gaming, and 8 years later, it still has never been matched for me. I’m hoping the Series X|S era will shape up to be the big return of Xbox to the greatness that it once was!

    This was my first 360 and I actually have some fond memories on this console, interesting enough this was kinda the console that transitioned our family from a “boobtube” TV to a more modern HD TV, took my family a long time to get with the times so to speak, still kinda does, my parents went 4K only just this year and it’s not an extremely fancy 4K TV either

I was super happy with that Insignia TV and never paid more than $399 for one prior to owning my LG unit lol.

    Regardless of whether Dan Mattrick was right, it didn't make him look confident in the new console when his solution for people without internet access was to go buy the previous one. It reminds me of that interview Steve Ballmer did with CNET many years ago about Zune, and when he was asked if he uses a Zune for his morning runs, he said that he instead used an old-school FM radio headset. It's important to demonstrate to your customers that your new product will meet everyone's needs without alternative products being required to fill in the gaps.

    I bought my 360 Elite in the spring of 2010 and still have it now and it works fine yet. I tested it not long ago. Manufactured in September 2009. But in the fall of 2013 when the Xbox One first came out, I decided to pick up the 360 E because stores were blowing them out for $199 Canadian brand-new at the time and I wanted one as a back-up. Actually it was a good decision because of the additional hard drive space and also it was quieter than my old Elite. I have not turned it on for quite some time now but I still have it and it also still worked fine last I used it. I bought my model 1540 Xbox One in February of 2016 and am still running it now as my main Xbox.

The one thing that concerns me about it is that it blows a lot of heat to the point where I feel like I could burn myself if I keep my hand on the 360 for long enough. Because it’s a bit newer it was in good condition and doesn’t have the same worries as an older 360 red-ringing. Also the fan in the console I got him was fairly quiet but I remember my older 360 Slim used to make my dog nervous from the sound of it vibrating but that was probably just an isolated thing with my Xbox, really good video Jon and congrats on the new addition to your family :)

    A tip for the scratched glossy surfaces: use some meguiars polish (for cars) on a microfiber cloth. Brings back a lot of shine and gloss. Apply a thin layer of car wax afterwards to protect the surface. I recently did that on my 360E and PS3 Super Slim and it turned out really well. I also put an SSD in the PS3 which shortens the in-game and XMB loading times and makes it feel a lot snappier. Still looking to install one in the 360E as well but it's not as easy as on the PS3.

    Got one of these, it was made in 2015, so one of the very last ones (Winchester revision I think). Bought it end of January 2017 for the ridiculous price of 99€. It's the 500GB version with Forza Horizon 2 included. In hindsight I wished I bought another one as spare. I don't know if all E models have this but the fan on mine is extremely silent and seems to spin very slow. The little fan in the power supply is more noticeable. Also because of this the plastic cover gets very hot and emits a chemical smell, took forever to go away. Always smelled like plastic smoldering. Nonetheless it proved to be very sufficient at keping it cool, proven by the fact that I cover the console with a small towel to protect the glossy part from dust and I forgot to take the towel off with it running for like 1 or 2 hour sometimes before I noticed it. One time it just crashed. I was always very angry at myself for forgetting to remove the towel but I hope it didn't cause any long term damage. I think the console is supposed to shut down and display a message that it overheated? Having that never happened I guess even with the fan covered it never reached that temperature threshold? Anyways to prolong it's lifespan I connected an aftermarket fan adapter to the fan that makes it run 50% faster and guess what, it still is very quiet. It's a mystery to me why they made the fan spin that slow and it never changes speed, even when covered. Maybe it's just that very last revision that has these super slow fans. I'd like to know from other owners. For many it might be the ugly duckling in the model range but for me it was very affordable and I could finally catch up on all the great Forza games and other exclusive titles and I am still actively using it, still have a lot of unplayed games.

Still plays games fine, I just have to whack the system occasionally to get the tray to open. Is that something that's easily fixed?

    My first and only 360. Got it when I was 14 going into highschool. I remember it clear as day.
    3/15/14, officially purchased at 12:22. Cashier name, kenneth. At GameStop with my best friend at the time. He had been introducing me to what it's like to play the 360 months before and I felt it was time to get it. I begged my mom to let me dip into my savings to buy it and had to heavily convince her. Games, bo2, halo 4 and Minecraft.
    I'm 22 currently and will be 23 in july. Ever since then, I've kept it factory stock and no repairs what so ever, gt has changed only once, and it's helped me to understand building computers as in the past my tinkerer brain just couldn't help itself but other than just to take it apart and learn.
    Still to this day, I have the receipt. A special keep sake and reminder of my happiest moments on some of these games and what would truly change my life and how I'd go about it from then on.

    Never had any issues with my 360S drive opening by itself but the mechanical buttons on the 360E do definitely seem like a more durable solution.

    That auxiliary port in the back comes in handy when I use my 360 with the projector to watch movies

    I have a couple of these. I actually really like it. It is much quieter than my older 360s and it also stays cool really well. Pair that with it being small and light and it is my favorite 360 console

    I am sure everyone that had one remembers it :) . I still use one of my 360's with the main tv along side my Series X for the games that are not compatible. It's not an E though it's a Modern Warfare ltd edition one. Still going strong.

      The original black colored Xbox 360 (with the removable faceplates on the front) was the "Xbox 360 elite" and it had the 250gb hard drive that took up about 3/4ths the side of the console and snapped into the little proprietary port stocking out. But the base models were white and just came with a 20gb hard drive that was the Same physical size and shape as the elite 250gb HD..but you could just buy the 250gb HDD and put it in any first gen 360 and it was the same thing as an elite. (Except at some point they began adding HDMI ports above the older HD video out and that might have been the other incentive to buy the elite model.
      But then once they switched over to the slim Xbox 360 with the annoying touch on button....where your cat could walk by and it's tail would literally brush against the console and turn it off 🤣 Those actually had the 4GB built in or soldered to the motherboard for the base model, and then a 250Gb/ 500GB little black SATA HD that slid inside of the Xbox after removing the plastic grate on the side. (But by that time they had pushed out the update to make it possible to use USB thumb drives and USB external Hard drives to play movies,music, and save games to it.
      Don't think any gaming console in History had as many different generations/and models than the 360 ... that still works/supported today....even after they lost ridiculously amounts of money from never making any profit from console sales from having to fix ALL RROD consoles by law and then give Those fixed replacement consoles a new 2 year warranty for free.

    One of the nicest things about a matte finish (laptops, game systems, etc) is that light scratches are nearly invisible. Even really scratched up units don’t look awful. - The glossy asthetic stuff is ruined by a few long scratches.

    I own an E! I mostly bought it because it was a sleek-looking 360 that I knew I could keep around for a while. I actually played (the original) Forza Horizon on it last year - still going strong.

    I picked up one of these like 3 years ago
    I had a lunch era model from 2006 that lasted until 2016 before it gave up the ghost. When I finally decided to replace it I wanted a later revision like the E that would likely be the most reliable

    This thing came out 7 years after the original xbox 360. It's transistor size cut nearly in half, as well as it's power draw. It's still almost as big as the original 360! Even the ps4 slim is significantly more slim, albeit a bit more long/wide. I think I've just been spoiled by the ps2 slim's size difference.

    Never have I had to buy a system three times because of hardware failures. That said, I probably have never used a system so hard either.
    I kept coming back because at the time I liked everything about their online service, controller, and most importantly, games.

      I remember my original white 360 just quit on me after having gone in for repairs twice (one was a weird disc tray issue, the other was the covered RRoD recall). The day it decided to quit was the release day of Battlefield 3, I ran to the store and picked up the black 360 that was recently released... 😂

    I'm a huge Xbox fan from day one. This will shock you! I saved a brand new Xbox 360 (this version) for so many years. I kept it boxed for PGR3, PGR4, The Orange Box and Chronicles of Riddick. Decided to open a few months ago whilst unable to aquire a SeriesX. I played the above games which I've completed multiple times over the years for just a few hrs. Came to the realisation that the Xbox should be used not just stored so I sold it. Massively regretting that decision as I still have the games which I also bought new and they don't run on the Series X.

    I have an Xbox 360-E. I bought it 'refurbished' a few years ago from 'Game' (UK) because I have a large library of 360 disks, some which are not playable on my XB1X. Remarkably good condition, came with all the leads, controller, etc. but no box. It has a 500GB HDD - nice. Has always worked perfectly (it's much quieter than the older models). A good investment - a great little console IMO.
