It’s funny how this system doesn’t represent the OG PS3 at all. Not even in the same ballpark. It’s not a bad thing. It’s amazing that something that much smaller does the same thing at a fraction of the size and weight.
Same, I really like the super slim but nothing beats the premium feel of the “phat” with its touch sensors, but the super slim is lightweight and more portable it just feels cheaper with it's physical buttons in my opinion otherwise it's great and has the best looking official ps stand.
I currently own the ps one Slim, the ps3 super Slim and the original ps4 from 2014 with touch sensors. I plan on grabbing the ps2 slim and the ps5 slim next as I want to collect all the Slim series in black variants. Fun fact: the super slim plays ps1 disk titles.
I have always loved the Super Slim. I bought the 500GB version when it launched, and I think it is great. I like the simple design, and that there are less moving parts. Not to mention just how tiny it is.
Got this one right when they released. I was hoping for a PS3 for years at this point and there I was, in a mall with my mom, seeing a brand new model with whooping 500gbs that I've never seen before. My mom bought it for me right then and there. I cried my eyes out on the spot for what felt like good 30 minutes. Took it home, and that very day downloaded the Uncharted Drake's Fortune demo as that was the franchise I was getting the console for. 9 years later, that franchise changed my life, and I still play my PS3 to this day. Recently finished Red Dead Redemption and now going through all the MGS games. Good purchase.
Good thing I bought a modded PS3 Slim 320GB, not the modded PS3 Super Slim 500GB cause I like the premium built design on the PS3 Slim more than PS3 Super Slim.
My favorite is the PS3 slim. Sony's final revisions always feel cheap and weird. It's happened with most consoles and their handhelds, too. They get lighter, incorporate more plastic, and are less mechanical.
@@toraomc1076 he's right though. The first one felt premium, but was flimsy. The first slims didn't feel premium, but perfectly sturdy. The super slim is like all the worst parts of both, not the best like you'd expect
@@busterscrugs i don't disagree, the plastic might feel cheap but I can tell you mine has had some crazy bad falls and still looks and works great, other consoles probably would have been toast, or at least super deformed from just one of the falls in question. Thats my experience anyway, I think they're solid units at least on the inside, even if the outside is just (cheap?) plastic
Something I just learned a few weeks ago is that you're not supposed to slide the lid over physically. I didn't even know that push button existed until I took mine apart to clean it. Physically shoving it over every time is what likely led to failures as it ground down the catch.
There’s a product used for removing scratches from old-school acrylic watch crystals called Polywatch. It will take the scratches out of those gloss bits in a snap.
This is the reason why i w8 before i buy a PS5. I will see what Sony comes up with another PS5 Design (Slim, Pro, what ever). Also because imo the PS5 itself is way to big.
I recently combed through Ebay looking for a PS3 because my fat 80 died awhile ago, and I picked up a 160gb slim that died within a few days. All of the Super Slim consoles I found looked just like that one, trashed and possibly broken, with a lot of ones with broken doors. I finally decided to start looking at Japanese models, since they are region free and can be in any language. I found a White Slime 160gb complete in box for $165 shipped from Japan. Only took 5 days to get shipped from Japan. Console and controller are in pristine condition. If you are loking for a good condition PS3, don't be afraid to get a Japanese Model. Only difference between the JP and NA versions, is that Circle is the select button and Cross is back. This only pertains to the XMB and it doesn't affect NA games. I know you have imported some consoles from Japan, so seeing how nice the ones you got were, I was convinced I was going to have good luck!
I have the same system but in Bright Red and it has a 500GB Hard drive on it. It has been with me for 8 years now, Played loads of games on it, from The Last of Us, Ni No Kuni, Resident Evil 5, FFXIII, Killzone 3, I even bought some PS1 game digitally like Xenogears, Chrono Cross and Parasite Eve, fun times. And it is still running till this day! :D
When the slot loading drive on my PS3 Slim broke down, Sony India replaced it with a 500GB Super Slim for an equivalent of $100 (apparently Sony India doesn’t have a repair policy 🤷🏽♂️), as the slim was out of warranty. Most people I know, who bought the PS3 at the tail end of its EOL, got the 500GB variant. I vaguely remember there being a 250GB version of the Super Slim. I don’t know if we had a 12GB variant, here in India. 8 years on and my Super Slim still runs like a champ. Currently sits next to my PS4 Pro.
Roach droppings? I turned on my Wii once and a whole Ant colony decided to flee out the side vent! I keep my machines inside in a clean tv cabinet and don’t let dust get on them, was quite the mystery trying to work out where they came from.
I had a super slim PS3, specifically a Assassins Creed 3 bundle, and it was a really good system. I remember never running out of storage, because the one I got came with 500 GB, and this was when the biggest game to install was GTA and Destiny 1, which paired were only 120-140 GB, and those were the most storage consuming games. Others you wouldn’t even have to install, so I remember never having to worry about storage on this thing. Honestly it was kinda impressive considering the fact that the Xbox one and PS4 first shipped with also 500 GB. I will admit tho that after 3-4 years, my system kept having issues and one day my entire system got corrupted and I had to factory reset it. Still, I loved that thing back in the day. Idk if I liked it more than my 360, but it was a damm good console. Didn’t realize until I got one years later how much different the PS3 Regular slim was compared to the Super Slim.
It’s amazing that 2 generations later they only upgraded the space by 300gb. There should be a 4TB option by now. 4TB’s cost like $100 on amazon lol. Consoles are always trying to do the minimum
I promise you, after 4 RROD's in a row, I love my ps3 WAY better than any of my 360s. I only wish the cross platform games had been properly optimized for it. It seems as though SONY failed to develop proper tools for their clients to use. Its almost like they didnt fully understand the console themselves.
I have a Super Slim since it came out. But I have the Version with a 500gb HDD. In all the years I wasn't able to fill up more than 100gb. But I took good care of it and it's still in pristine condition. At the Moment it's my Netflix machine in my Bedroom. But after the PS3 I changed sides and got an Xbox. Now running the Series X since Day one.
WILD how this PS3 (500GB) model space is not that far off from the amount of GB for the PS5 (667GB). PS5 should’ve AT LEAST been 1TB and that’s still small nowadays. Awesome PS3, I was playing WWF SMACKDOWN! 2 Know your role (PS1) last night. Love the content.

I really enjoyed the video, I just wish you would have kept the video going while you cleaned the PS3 and reassembled it. I would have watched the whole video even if it was 45 minutes. I have one of these and it is very reliable and very quiet.
And its still not obsolete... so many great games of so many great franchises are still stuck on the PS3. Some like Demon Souls, Virtua Fighter 5 and the Ninja Gaiden Sigma Trilogy FINALLY made it to current hardware... but King of Fighters 13, the Capcom D&D Arcade games, Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls and countless other games other people care about are still waiting on the other side for their ridiculously overdue ports.
That's the exact model I picked up in 2014, still have it. Still use it regularly. I worry about the sliding door, and I need to give it a proper dusting, but it's a solid little console.
Whenever I get a PlayStation 3 (I sorely missed out on it during the 7th generation), this will likely be the model I get (just in the Crystal White color, because I already have enough game consoles in a boring black color) in the event I am unable to acquire a launch model PlayStation 3.
The ps3 wasn't the prettiest system imo but it was decent.. Design wise, the og ps4 is better but too noisy.. Plus, Playstation systems generally tend to be fragile..
I am thinking of buying one. What does he mean by small storage for maybe just one game? Am I not going to be able to use more than one of my discs before the memory was used up?
I remember being so confused when I saw this design thinking how different it was to my buddies OG ps3. I now own the superslim thanks to my brother in law who didn't want his anymore. Although he definitely abused the console it still runs prefect.

I own this one. I wouldn't call this model "a quiet one", that's for sure. When the disc starts spinning, it makes so much noise and vibration, I was afraid the console will fall off the table.
It may look weird and cheap but its the most reliable PS3, all it needs is just dusting off+thermal paste change, no need for a complex maintenance routine like at the Fat one(delid, capacitors, PSU replacement etc.) and maybe Slim too. I also have friends that got one since release day and guess what, no issue, no "YLOD".
I have this model, but with a 500GB HDD. I bought it new back in January 2016 for 200 bucks off Overstock. I wish I lived next to your place, so you could open, clean and provide top maintenance for all my consoles. Which are so many. And I would pay you good money of course.
Super Slim is the best model - most compact, cool and quiet, also stop sliding it with your hand there's a button! Also they had some great colors too.

I just hope that Sony can work on making PS3 games available to purchase, download and play locally on the PS4/PS5 without requiring a PSN subscription.
The PSN subscription is a total scam. It basically makes you pay to use the internet you already pay for. You're not even getting dedicated servers, it's all P2P. I hate how Sony followed Microsoft with this and no one even made a fuss about it. Those companies should be sued with a class-action over this.
@@dericjames2018 No it didn't. It was exaggerated beyond belief to cope with the 360 failure rate of over 50%. Ps3 failure rate was below 3%, which is way below the normal rate for any electronic device.

It struck a good balance. Didn't have the features of the launch phat models, but it had rock solid reliability, ran cool, was very quiet, but still felt premium. All for a much more reasonable price. I always thought the super slim looked really cheap.

My ps3 super slim is such a beast. Bought new in 2013, has 27 games on the original internal drive and I've got some 35 more titles on discs. Not once have I opened it, still works like a charm with rare freezes, never had to uninstall games to get new ones on the drive. Has outlived 2 original pads (the one that came with the console is still somewhat working, just developed stick drift after 8 years of heavy usage, au contraire to what people say about DS quality). GOAT.
My newest PS3 (& new spare) slides open like that, but both are the 500g model. I bought the 500g one, then soon after, when I heard they were discontinuing them, I bought a new spare, as well, since they were cheaper. So I have a barely-used one and a new spare -- hopefully they'll both hold me off for a while when I get in the mood for an older game, which is semi-often. (Hell, my backlog will last me some years, alone).
Recently my seldomly used super slim have heating issue. I replace the thermal paste and it's good to go. It's also my 1st time doing it. Warranty is out the door giving it is over 10 years.
I have one of these sealed. For a time, I was buying a system to keep sealed towards the end of each system's life. Unfortunately in this case it means I end up keeping the most cheap feeling of the variations. My slim is still going strong so I'll probably never open it. But I kind of wish I had done it earlier and have a sealed slim
The fact he knows about roaches and all other stuff that can be found inside a used system and still doesn't use gloves while disassembling is rather unsettling
Xboxes One did. Though only for passthrogh purposes I think. There was something mentioned in early reveals that PS3 would have dual HDMI. As many early Blu-ray players did have, one being for audio only. I suspect that was the reason for PS3 as well. Would have been neat if a console could drive two monitors though. The current ones probably would be up to it.
Unfortunately my OG Phat PS3 got the yellow light of death (though it did take awhile) so I got this and a new PS2 instead of buying another phat and it has served me really well. Keep it in my room whereas my PS 2/4/5 are in my media room, and I use this almost every night either to watch blu-ray, play an old JRPG, or stream video. It's a great system.

I’ve owned all 3 versions and this one definitely feels cheap and strange. But I haven’t had any issues with it after all these years
Same, I really like the super slim but nothing beats the premium feel of the “phat” with its touch sensors, but the super slim is lightweight and more portable it just feels cheaper with it's physical buttons in my opinion otherwise it's great and has the best looking official ps stand.
Spawn wave: weirdest ps3 Sony ever released.
George forman: and I took that personally.
I bought one of those about three years ago for 50$ with a DS3. It runs cool and quiet, my fav PS3 by far.

these did come with HDD. the super slims had 250gb and 500gb versions. My first PS3 was a 500GB PS3 super slim bundled with Assassins Creed III
Currently watching this on my PS3 Hen Super Slim.
Put an SSD in your PS3. Digital Foundry and others have shown that it stabilizes frame rates and reduces or eliminates visible texture swapping
I have the same system but in Bright Red and it has a 500GB Hard drive on it.
It has been with me for 8 years now,
Played loads of games on it, from The Last of Us, Ni No Kuni, Resident Evil 5, FFXIII, Killzone 3,
I even bought some PS1 game digitally like Xenogears, Chrono Cross and Parasite Eve, fun times.

8 years on and my Super Slim still runs like a champ. Currently sits next to my PS4 Pro.
I love my PS3 Slim. Best version of the console IMO. More reliable than the launch PS3 and better looking than the Super Slim PS3.

You called the original PS3 the George Foreman console. The Super Slim model is what I’ve always considered the George Foreman.

I still can't believe they released something so cheap looking/feeling.

By this point Sony had lost over a couple of billion on the PS3 so it's not that hard to imagine they went cheap as possible.
