Something I rarely see people mention about the Super Slim is that it includes an eject button! Yes, there's a button that triggers a mechanism and opens the tray automatically. I always use it because I am pretty sure it can prevent the mechanism from getting worn out from being forcedly opened all the time.

They sold the PS3 super slim with lots of kids and family friendly bundles. Wonderbook, Move, Invizimals, Dinosaurs, etc. So find a used console from some mom. These consoles did not get much usage because PS4 was right around the corner. I bought 2 such "mom" consoles and they are basically like new.
So many gamers this days in 2024, truly enjoying going back on PS3 and XBOX 360… And I’m one of them. Especially with the PS3, my favorite console of all times. Happy Gaming Everyone 😎.
My first PS3 was the first slim. It got the yellow lights of death or whatever you call it after a year and a half exactly when the warranty expires. My new PS3 slim from 2013 has worked flawlessly since then though.
This version of the PS3 I still own. Even though it had some overheating problems, but very rarley, I still love this console and it's still fully functional. Also 500 GB is good enough for A LOT of PS3 games. 7th generation didn't have a lot of games that are over 30 or 40 GB to play. So my PS3 collection has gotten very huge.
@@VladimirFlashbangX My PS3 fan overheated a few times and it turned the console off, but at the same time the fan sounded like it was about to explode, so I quickly took the power cable so that PS3 wouldn't die. But like I said, it happened to me very rarley. When it does happen, I let my PS3 chill for a bit and do other things like playing my PS2 or watch RUclips for example.
i recently downloaded all of my psn purchases on to my 500gb hdd. I have 51gb left. 91 ps3 games, 30 ps1 games, and 4 ps2 games. I hacked it to transfer them over to a 1tb external so I'll have them but definitely plan on getting a bigger internal hdd soon too.
I thought I heard 1tb is the biggest size ps3 will recognize safely? I have a 1tb ssd in mine, the ssd makes it super snappy and some gsmes even perform better with less pop in issues and way better load times
I've never heard of this console having heating issues. I mean, any of them can, but I feel the older fat boy models are far more notorious for over heating.
I literally bought a PS3 like 4 days ago this exact same model. The disc tray sliding around scared the shit out of me initially but now I think I like it. It's a little beast of a machine but it does feel very cheap.
Around the 5:00 mark, yeah man, I get what you're saying. I've thought about it too and I've even wondered if you could substitute the disc cover with something else if it ever stopped latching for what ever reason. Good video. Subscribed
At the time when the PS3 originally released a new Blu-ray player was about $800-$1000 compared to the PS3 at $600. In fact the Blu-ray player that was built into the PS3 was what justified the 600.00 price tag to most people at the time. Hgtv's were just coming around and everything was being compared to 720 and 1080p, and to be able to upgrade that majorly to a new Blu-ray player from a DVD player and be able to get the next generation gaming system all-in-one setup is what appeased to everybody. You have to remember at that time the Xbox 360 had an entire year ahead of the PS3 on release basically, they didn't have a built-in Blu-ray what they had was an additional add on that you had to buy which was HD-DVD, and nobody wanted to have to buy an additional drive play HD DVD discs. At that point people still hadn't forgotten about the betamax/vhs wars that happened in the 80s and we didn't even want to have to deal with that s***. PlayStation 3 certainly had a slow start at the beginning but they sure as s*** took it towards the end. I don't think it happened to be enough to win that generation of console wars but the system has sure as s*** aged better. Especially with the ability to be able to not have a proprietary hard disk drive and being able to upgrade it to an SSD.
Love this guys voice. Reminds me of goodfellas gangster like 😅 great video 👍🏻 just picked up a super slim as it was the only ps3 version i didnt own....now i feel somewhat complete until i think of something else that i " need " to own 😬
I recommend installing MultiMan and Hen on your SuperSlim. Install your games onto hard drive. Can save disc drive and game discs from wear n tear. Can attach a two terabyte external hard drive. Installed just over 80 games onto hard drive. Still got about a terabyte left
I had a PS3 slim since 2010.. I sold it last year.. This year I got a super slim, and I can tell you the real world difference: The size difference is substantial. The new model fits on my desk and it just looks more modern. It feels fresh and cool again. The disc tray looks cheap, but it works just fine. My super slim is actually really quiet. It is quieter then my PS3 slim. In the end this is a nice little machine and to me because of the new design it really made me love the PS3 again. I never wanted one. I always thought it is a cheap value model. But now I love it..
I added an official vertical stand to my super slim and now it looks kinda neat! It was like 12€ on Amazon, it’s definitely a great addition to this model.
I'VE GOT TWO OF THESE THINGS. BOTH ARE 12GB SECOND HAND. GOT THEM IN 2020 FROM EBAY. THE REASON I WANTED THE 12GB VERSION IS BECAUSE I FIGURED, APART FROM BEING THE LAST VERSION SONY MANUFACTURED, THAT THEY WERE UNLIKELY TO HAVE BEEN USED MUCH. HARD GAMERS ARE'NT GOING BUY A CONSOLE WITH SUCH A SMALL STORAGE CAPACITY. I WAS RIGHT BOTH ARE IMMACULATE. I SIMPLY INSTALLED AN SSD IN EACH WHICH TOOK FIVE MINUTES. AND I STILL USE THEM.
Very smart thinking.. I have 2 12gb versions too. You can install an SSD anytimes.. You are right. There where almost no additional games with it. Controller where like brand new. These are "mom" consoles bought for their kids and because it was a great price.. No real hardcore gamers..
I like the super slim. My original ps3 started having issues. I bought a slim and the disk eject started giving me issues within a few months. No worries about that with the super slim.
Would the super slim not be able to read discs if the disc tray door somehow broke because of someone continually forcing it open by hand instead of using the button to open it?
My personal fav console was the Slim Model. In particular the 3000B variant where they upgraded the GPU slightly so it runs slightly cooler and quitter than previous slim models
I have a white super slim and it's been nothing but reliable. If you're concerned about the door breaking I recommend using the open button on the right. The door will gently slide open. It may be because I have the white model but I don't think it looks cheap at all. Looks rather sharp sitting next to my silver PS2 slim!
Still remember when I went and got my first PS3 cuz I had a couple of them, I got every game that had been released what's the newest games to have been released at that time were Force unleashed and mortal Kombat versus DC, I got the remote and another controller and the exact total cost me $1,001 no cents I paid cash and walked out of Best buy with a huge bag feeling like a champ. The irony behind my PS3 adventure is that I got the first gen backwards compatible fat version and then that one died, had to transition over to a slim which ironically was lost because my ex-girlfriend took it for her son, and now I have a super slim which ironically was given to me by a buddy of mine who had to but didn't play video games and he decided to just keep one and give me one we had no idea if it worked it was full of wax and all other s*** but I cleaned it up and it works perfect. I even slapped in a 2 terabyte SSD and it was worth it
I used to have the fat model PS3 in 2009 until 2015 when it gave me the yellow light of death. I ended up calling Playstation support and ended up trading it in for a fee and I ended up with the super slim. I still have it to this day. I kinda wish I had waited a few months to get a PS3 because the slim models came out around September and I got my PS3 in April.
PS3 Super Slim had the 40nm CPU and later models 28nm GPU making them very quiet. Not a lot of heat produced by the dies. I use a PS3 slim to play all my PS3 games. I just use the PS3 launch model to play my PS2 games in higher resolutions.
Super slim is my daily driver PS3!! Quiet as a mouse and hard pressed to ever overheat. My BC E01 just sits on my shelf as a beautiful showpiece and occasional PS2 gaming
I still have the PS3 Slim 500GB model, although it can be a little finicky about reading discs sometimes. My other PS3, the 320GB model, doesn't have that problem.
I love my super-slim. It has served me well over the years. I think it looks cool. Odd, but cool. As time goes by i think it will become alot more sought after because of its uniqueness
You can play ps2 games on a super slim using hen. It's not a full jailbreak, but it's definitely worth it for that added backwards compatibility. Plus you can backup your ps3 games.
After owning now, all three versions I still found the slim awesome, though the original design is classic. I absolutely do love the super slim to answer your question about the door. These are notorious for breaking. As long as the door is closed and the pin inside is pressed to read the disk you’re fine I have one that shouldn’t even boot but it does it’s partially broken. I resorted to keeping the lid off and also being it’s off the cooling is better being the outside air is being sucked in more then the inside system air. PS3 Hen is heaven on these too. These are much easier to service compared to the other two PS3’s which is a plus. If you’re lucky like me, I have the 12GB version so once you remove the SSD, HDD. It transfers your accounts and I believe saves too.
I want this slim ps3 just to have on my entertainment center and play my ps3 games. other then that I could just my OG-fat 60gb PS3, but this seems so much better. I love the sliding door of them.
My original PS3 Slim's disc drive died in a year. I've had the Super Slim since it came out and it still works just about perfect. (Weirdly Gran Turismo 6 keeps crashing on certain races) but I can't narrow down what the issue is
I still have mine . l like it. I like the way the disc drive is set up reminds me of old ps days . I use it 4 blue ray cds. Getting into the game collection. It's not going to break I use it a lot it's just like the ps2 Super slim… plus if want to use optical audio for headphones 🎧 or stereo plus size HDMI
I bought a PS3 Super Slim in Red as a backup for playing my games on just in-case my original backwards compatible 60GB model gives up the ghost on me. 👻🎮
the ps2 did have a "super slim" of some sorts. They rammed the power supply into a slightly different slim casing, meaning no external power brick. I forget what version number it is.
I got this in white for like 200 three years ago. I got a 2 and 4 in white as well. I just have the door on top. I never understood vertical placement.
You forgot to talk about the cd eject button instead of sliding the door open. I brought mine for $30 of Ebay because it didnt have bluetooth. $30 Controller adapter fixed that. I got sick of putting my slim in the oven to reball the CPU every 6 months. I play Ps1x2 on the series x. Emulation is such a better feeling on console compared to on pc. My latest rabbit hole is mouse and keyboard on ps3. I love my super reliable super slim 😍
Got my red gow version. I love it. Its now becoming my ps1 as i play through my old games and it has upscaling. I dunno how much it does bit its a thing lol
I have this same console since late 2012, and just a few months ago discovered that it has retrocompatibility with PS1 and PS2 games. I'm not sure if all the Super Slim consoles have this feature or if I'm lucky.
I had all 3 ‘styles’ across the 7th gen and still have my super slim. The only real reason I see the 12GB model being viable would’ve been to replace a broken one you already own and swap the HDD. By 2012 you could get Blu-ray players for around $100
The big appeal of the original is of course the convenience of ps2 backwards compatibility but with the cost rarity and reliability issue it's almost not worth the effort
I had a 20gb hated the ps2 emulation. so I got a slim and a super slim. currently have the super slim on my semi. been pretty happy. started Resistance and just got Syndicate started as well. great stuff. forgot how graphically impressive it was
You sound like your from cheecagooh (chicago) like Dan Aykroyd in snl and blues Brothers. Stumbled onto your site love it so far. Maybe they used it as a baseball base not a glove. It looks more like a black George Forman grill and I got one as a Xmas gift 12 years ago and it still works hope the ps 3 goes the distance too.
I have all 3 versions too I still use the super slim out of all of them I just recently Cleaned it out put it back together I have played it alot I got kinda smart and now I put a laptop cooling pad under it keep everything alive still but I love mine had it for years they are tough
Skyrim is a very hollow game Bad combat, bad combat progression, weak graphics, very generic feel overall. I genuinely think the true fathers of RPGs were 2D indies like Adventure Quest Worlds. The way they executed open world puts Skyrim and all modern studios to shame
I’m four months late replying to you, however, this is likely the most reliable PlayStation 3 model. It has a top- loading drive. They’re more reliable than a mechanical, slot- loading drive. In addition, the anodes are exposed; meaning, anyone can easily clean the laser lens. It’s not the prettiest model, necessarily, but it will last a long time.
Man I had the original without the ps2 emulator only to die with yellow light of death. A store had a special deal bring the old and with 100€ get the super slim. It is definitely an improvement because every summer the fat model in order to work properly. I had to turn the air condition to maximum in order not to shut down. If it plays all the games as before it is an improvement. But it is sad for someone who had the model with PS2 emulator.
I have the original slim (silver touch buttons) after my 60gb launch model got ylod'ed. Worked for many years but not anymore unfortunately. I might buy another slim or super slim just so I can replay infamous.
Have to agree with the super slim being most reliable. I had an origional 40gb that dies after 9 months, then an 80gb origional that died just shy of 2 years old then I got a super slim 500gb that I still have to this day. Thr first iteration was beutiful but bollocks....
The Super Slim is actually pretty quiet once you replace it´s thermal paste. PS4 Pro is the loudest console I own. Replacing the paste did not work at all on it.
It's ashame sony made a ps2 emulator for every ps3 but locked it behind rebuying digital versions. Anyway ps3 super slim with hen can play ps2 games even some psp games. It's actually easy to repair and clean thanks to the top loader. Only reason i have one is because my mgs 80gb died in 2013.
The regular slim and later fat models were not backward compatible. At least... they didn't have actual PS2 hardware inside like the original PS3. No big deal though. Better to get a separate PS2 console modded and fill a hard drive with less hassle.
It's the worst one but the best one I still prefer the Slim, About the BC , it does run PS2 games via emulation I had to go the 🐔 route for the Super Slim in order for this to happen .
I've only added 12 ps1 games to my collection this week. Although I did spend stupid amounts of money on the ps2 and ps3 silent hill games. On topic, I find the best ps3 to be the slim, not a fan of the flimsy door thingy on the super slim.
The ps3 launch had a built in ps2 so it could play ps1,2 and 3 games it cost a lot to make sony lost a lot of money for each unit they made. Where as the later models didnt have this backwards compatiblity ps3 slim and super slim. Personally I like the ps3 slim the best mine is still working greatbut it's cmos batter is dead and I can't play my digital games unless I sign into the psn which is very annoying something sony could eaisly fix like they did with ps4 which my launch Ed ps4 cmos is also dead and after the 9.00 patch it works great I can still acess all my digital game and play physical games.
My first PS3 is a super slim and I love that janky plastic piece of crap. It feels like gaming on a used car on its last leg. I do enjoy the disc flap. While playing games it'll make creaky noises like its settling in. I love its jank. It should be called the Super Cheap PS3 because it lovingly is.
I will say this I still feel that the slim is the better looking system with the super slim being the worst looking of the three, what does super slim has certainly grown on me now that I own one that was given to me

May really have to pick up a ps3 someday. I recently picked up a 360 but there are a lot of games I want to play for PlayStation still! 🤝🏽
the ps2 did have a "super slim" of some sorts. They rammed the power supply into a slightly different slim casing, meaning no external power brick. I forget what version number it is.
I got this in white for like 200 three years ago. I got a 2 and 4 in white as well. I just have the door on top. I never understood vertical placement.
WORD IS BOND YO PS3 FOR LIFE!!! HARD R!
"Not the original 60gb model, because that thing sounds like the military is in your basement" 😂😂
The PS2 slim was just a miniature version of the PS2 I think that made it look cool
The big appeal of the original is of course the convenience of ps2 backwards compatibility but with the cost rarity and reliability issue it's almost not worth the effort
I had a 20gb hated the ps2 emulation. so I got a slim and a super slim. currently have the super slim on my semi. been pretty happy. started Resistance and just got Syndicate started as well. great stuff. forgot how graphically impressive it was
Greetings From Edinburgh Scotland 🏴 ✌
After watching some of your vids I lent my Brothers PS3 Just to try. Playing Skyrim right now and have not Had this much fun in a very Long time.
Skyrim is a very hollow game
Bad combat, bad combat progression, weak graphics, very generic feel overall.
I genuinely think the true fathers of RPGs were 2D indies like Adventure Quest Worlds.
The way they executed open world puts Skyrim and all modern studios to shame
i always thought the combat was the worst part of skyrim especially as a melee build. mage is probably the best for gameplay @@maalikserebryakov

Quote of the year : " I don't know if I'm as dumb as a tree stump in the back of a wine vineyard. " 😂😂
If u have concern about the tray just put it vertical it opens up smooth with the button.
The Super Slim is actually pretty quiet once you replace it´s thermal paste.
PS4 Pro is the loudest console I own. Replacing the paste did not work at all on it.
Got the super slim bundled with uncharted 3 and still have it today
It's ashame sony made a ps2 emulator for every ps3 but locked it behind rebuying digital versions. Anyway ps3 super slim with hen can play ps2 games even some psp games. It's actually easy to repair and clean thanks to the top loader. Only reason i have one is because my mgs 80gb died in 2013.
hey dude really enjoy the content oh I have a slim and it's not backwards compatible
The regular slim and later fat models were not backward compatible. At least... they didn't have actual PS2 hardware inside like the original PS3.
No big deal though. Better to get a separate PS2 console modded and fill a hard drive with less hassle.
It's the worst one but the best one
I still prefer the Slim,
About the BC , it does run PS2 games via emulation
I had to go the 🐔 route for the Super Slim in order for this to happen .
PS2 loader on these also works. So there is some PS2 support.
by the way all ps3 models you can CFW and play ps2 games on no longer needed a ps3 backwards compatible i use a ps3 super slim
i have a white super slim ps3 i love it i think it s most reliable ps3 people said it looks cheap but it s opposite i think
Just bought a super slim because after about 12 years my slim is biting the dust
Super reliable!! Love my white one.
I still have my PS3 super slim to this day. And it's so dusty from the top. With what do I clean it?
Had the super slim for 10 years not one problem
I love these videos
I've only added 12 ps1 games to my collection this week. Although I did spend stupid amounts of money on the ps2 and ps3 silent hill games.
On topic, I find the best ps3 to be the slim, not a fan of the flimsy door thingy on the super slim.
nice video!
The only issue i have with the ps3 is that in the future the CMO might stop working and i wont be able to access my digital liberary
I had 3 of these bad boys
He sounds so smart
byakuya is not racist
@@maalikserebryakov the fight with zommari he was called racist by a black guy so thts how u know its true
I really want to get one brand new.
So this version is worth it because there is no disc drive to break. All you do is pop the top off and it’s ready to go. This is the ps3 that I own
The colors were for special edition consoles
Wii had 3 version as well. Please do ur research. Still enjoy ur content
i got this on sale for 150 euro back in the day, its ugliest playstation console but its still playing and awesome and super light.
