PS3 Slim is probably one of the most iconic PS3's next to the original one. It wouldn't suprise me if that was the start of people loving & buying the PS3 systems, because let's not forget, that the original PS3 costed as much as a gas or eletctric bill at the time. My first PS3 was and still is a PS3 Super Slim with 500 GB storage.
I remember I had to buy an HDMI cable, because for some reason the Devil May Cry cutscenes from the HD Collection were out of sync when I used the composite cable for the PS3 at the time.

I still play my jailbroken ps3 over my jailbroken ps4 pro and ps5. Truly timeless. The jailbreak process is alot easier and there are way more homebrew apps and support for ps3 than the ps4 due to it being out for longer

This is a great model which is CFW compatible (if you have later model slim only option would be PS3 HEN). Only bad thing about early Slims like the one you have is that still uses Nec tokens (which were quite problematic). I would highly recommend jailbreaking it to monitor the tempetures. This is a good model which doesn’t have problems with overheating so if the tempetures aren’t extreme you probably don’t need to repaste it. I would just recommend replacing the 5400 rpm HDD inside with a cheap SSD which will improve performance on the XMB, as well installing game, reduce the tempetures a bit and in many games fix texture pop-in. I also recommend installing CFW on your PS3 phat for the same reasons and if you don’t want to jailbreak your PS3 phat at least repaste it if its been used for a while and put in a cheap SSD.
That's awesome man! It's great to keep the milage of the BC PS3 low, I have the same struggle. I'm currently using my BC PS3 as my main because I don't have a slim anymore. But I wanna get one again. I noticed in ur video that u got a 2000 series slim which is much better than fat models BUT it's still seceptible to issues from the fat models because it has components used in the fat model that tend to have somewhat of a high failure rate. Ideally, with a slim, the 2100 or 2500 series are great because they both resolved the issues plaguing the fat and early slim models AND u can jailbreak those too with custom firmware (CFW). Anything from the 3000 series all the way to the 4300 series is not jailbreakable with custom firmware (CFW), but they can have homebrew enabler (HEN) installed tho. They're also very reliable especially the 4300 series superslims. Now I know this may seem confusing because there are a lotta numbers there so I'll simplify. If u want a reliable and jailbreakable (CFW) system: 2100 or 2500 series But if u want even better reliability but no jailbreak (HEN): 4300 series
Unfortunately, not all 2500 series consoles are jailbreak-able. Some of those models released after the 3.55 firmware and have a higher minimum firmware version, meaning they can't install custom firmware.
Yea I read about that but I'm yet to find one that isn't jailbreakable. I've personally jailbroke multiple 2500 series PS3s just fine. Either I'm very lucky or it's just a rare thing with the 2500 model.
4.91 CFW came out a few weeks ago :) , also handy with CFW you can monitor your PS3 temps. Got CFW installed on my PS3 Slim, was really easy too do and quick.
I have a launch PS3...it's dead in my closet. The good old yellow light came on and then went "beep beep beep" and I was all "who diddly what now?" And the PS3 was all like "beep beep beep" and I was all like "why I oughta!"...it was a dark time in my life, mainly because it died in the middle of the night.
PS3HEN is nice and easy to set up, you can play online without ban, can be done on any fw version and any PS3 model, but sony keeps forcing firmware updates so every time they do that you need to wait a few weeks sometimes for community to push an updated exploitable firmware and setup HEN again... Still worth the hassle, and maybe sony will stop updating the fw soon! :D
i have a similar model from way back then, a year ago i found out how easy it is the process, followed a 20 min tutorial on youtube and boom, works flawlesly, highy recommend! have fun
If you're concerned about the phat model doing the unthinkable, people use the ps3 slim 3000 model gpu as a replacement I should add that it can be a difficult and expensive repair.
I got another PS3 slim from eBay, my old one the wifi/bluetooth chip died. The last version of the slim is CECH-3001B before they switch to the super slim models. I was so worried something wasn't going to work right on it. So far so good, glad to be able to play PS3 games again!
How do you know if the wifi/bt chip has died? My super slim will see and recognize the network but it just won't connect. I know the password is correct. It worked a week ago. I'm thinking I might be having router issues with 2.4 gh but I'm not sure.
@mitchellreece9820 When the wifi/bluetooth chip died on mine, the controllers would no longer connect wirelessly and if I scanned for wifi networks it would just throw an error. The same chip controls both. If you're scanning and seeing networks your chip hasn't died. You could try a different channel on 2.4ghz if you can change it on your router.
It does suck that the OG ps3s are ticking time bombs, but if you still use one just make sure you have that ps+ auto save upload stuff on it's a gamechanger. Saved me from losing all my stuff from when mine died and i moved over to the same model in this video.
I too have a PS3 original it's the one after PS2 backwards compatibility and it still works but I have it turned off. Using my slim which I like more and with 1tb storage and jailbroken 😎 love it 😊

I see what you mean about wanting to keep your original backwards compatible PS3 standard, but I modded mine so it could have an SSD which I can install games to. Reduces load times, preserves the laser, and helps keep the internal temperature down a bit.
Love my ps3 slim its still going strong after 14 years. I remembered picking up assassins creed brotherhood fantastic game especially if you like history, resident evil 5, red alart, some ww2 combat flying game something birds of prey, lord of the rings conquest, and lord of the rings aragons quest which kind of sucked lol off a used game website. Unfortunately i sold most of my ps3 games planning to build it up once again some time. Shadows of the dammed is a gem very uniuqe game play its mostly a 3rd and fps shooter but it will throw some intresting game play styles at you also if you dont have the darkness 1,2 it worth picking up fun fps games centered around hell.
Here's some back pain tips from someone who's back is so bad they can't even sit longer than 15 minutes: Get rid of any racing chairs not part of sims. They have terrible effects on bad backs. Go to an Office Depot and try out chairs. It'll dip into collecting money, but a chair that is absolutely amazing for your specific spine will pay off in spades. Also use liquid lidocaine sticks. You can get them at any pharmacy just sitting on shelves, it's not controlled in any way and they work to a point. If it gets bad enough, see if you can get prescribed gabapentin. It's not an opiate and it just calms the nerves down. Posture will still be very important despite the pain involved.
Slims are my fav model of the PS3. Quieter, cooler, more reliable, smaller footprint, way more aesthetically pleasing to the eye than the big plastic boi. I have a PS3 fat that I bought new, two 320 Gb Slims that I bought new, and an official Sony PS3 Slim that I bought to test jailbreaking, homebrewing and upgrading. Slims are the best models.
Congrats on the new hardware; I have 2 PS3 slims: one for each floor. Shadows of the Damned is fantastic too. Can't help you with the jailbreaking though.
I remember waiting for a while before getting a PS3 and getting to play all the best games back to back, Uncharted 3, Last of Us, MGS 4, God of War 3. Couldnt find a copy of Demon Souls though
Honestly it's fairly easy to jailbreak the PS3. And it's well worth it. I only have HEN on my super slim and it's amazing. Being able to run full CFW on that bad boy you got there is going to be an absolute game changer. Also I agree with keeping the original console the way it is. Just makes sense.
i understand wanting to keep your original ps3 stock, but real talk, jail break it. you can keep your system cooler than syscon does, and if you ever wanted to, a simple software update can undo it. i have a cecha01 ps3 i have had since launch, if you want it to last then you will need to have it get the frankenstein mod done and prolly the capacitors replaced also. i have been enjoying your channel and i subbed bc i love the ps2 and ps3 content! love your channel
Use hen on the slim I have one an its amazing get I play ps1 ps2. Ps3 an Nes snes an it can play original base like ways..mine came with zukostore which brought all the games in the store an I can pick anyone I like an what is more great is that I have all exclusive triple A Games on disc. I have 2 slims with JB running, each with their own set of exclusives; bought them for 20$ each, best invest ever. Just got my hands on a (broken) backwards compatible model; hope to revive it. JB is VERY easy, just follow straight forward guides. If you do things step by step you just visit website, clear cookies, visit website and done; after that, just install the CFW (I have evilnat, but I am sure there is not much of a difference between them)

Mr. Mario has plenty of jailbreaking videos for the PS3. It's not hard at all, and you should be just fine. I encourage doing it as it gives you a lot more control over system features and many other fancy tricks.

Ah yes, the amount of heat coming out of the 60 gig PS3... 😄I haven't used mine since it got the YLOD many many years ago, but I still remember my reaction to the heat coming out of that thing when I started it up for the first time. My apartment usually gets ridiculously hot during summer, and I immediately thought: "ok, so no PS3 gaming during the summer months then..."
I have a 2001A from Sept 09. Once the store drops off, Im going to jailbreak it. I love the OG firmware and could keep it as a glorified PS2 but I put a 1tb SSD in it and I have only so much music and movies to fill that

There are only advantages to a jailbroken PS3 Slim. It is a great device with which you can backup PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. You can also set a slightly more aggressive fan curve to increase the lifespan of the device
I still own my original 60GB fatty but it’s broken. Blu-ray drive voltage chip burned out. I know how to fix it but am hesitant. Plus have to source the part from another broken PS3 which is a dicey scenario. I just bought a ps3 slim which was filthy and ended up doing a massive cleaning, repasted, and changed battery while I was in there. Oh also added a 1TB SSD (cool and quiet!). That thing seriously was so dirty. So dirty, in fact, that it inspired me to buy another…but this time a super slim. So now I have all three models…not sure where I’m going with this but yea the PS3 rocks. I love the XMB.
Hey man, if you got the cash, like 600 bucks. You can send in your fat PS3 to get frankensteined. What it does, is it puts a PS3 slim 40nm RSX into the fat. Eliminating the YLOD. Sony actually used to do these if you sent in your PS3 fat to them around 2009-2011. Look it up. It's worth it if you're serious about keeping your BC PS3 alive. Because those things die quick.
Only do that once it ylods. Don't mess with a working system. Let it last as long as it can before you start doing mods like that. It'll last even longer like that.
I am pretty sure you don't have to worry about the firmware if you have the right model because basically all the jailbreak methods want the newest firmware. Meaning, you can just update it as normal before performing the jailbreak. I could be wrong on this, this is just what I have gathered from other videos.
Super slim is more reliable! The slim disc tray will fail. The mechanism that slides the disc in will fail! Thats why the ps5 slim has detachable disc drive. ❤
If I recall correctly shadow of the damned (I might be wrong and mistaking it for no more heroes) but I think shadows of the damned the same people behind lollipop chainsaw were involved. Also lollipop chainsaw is a lot of fun
My first PS3 was the 60GB with backwards compatibility. It died after a couple years. I think it was caused by a 7,200 RPM drive I put in it. I think that made it too hot and caused problems. I still have an original PS3 Slim. The Blu-ray drive died though so I can only play digital games.
With regards to the fat ps3 , if you can find someone in Canada that can swap the GPU with the 40 nm GPU found on the slims it will be extremely reliable.
I had a PS3 Slim from 2011 and when I checked if it could be jailbroken it just so happened to be the exact model that shipped with either the last viable firmware or the first one that can't be jailbroken depending purely on luck, and as luck would have it mine was literally one of the first ones that couldn't be jailbroken, so I was heartbroken instead.
I got a PS3 slim back in 2009 when that released because I never had the original one, since the original one released in 2006 when I was still using my PS2. If you really want to jailbreak the one you got on ebay you could be banned from it, so I wouldn't risk it, but if you really want to that's up to you, since I have never jailbroken mine, I'm against Console jail breakers because they can cheat, and cheating is what's killing multiplayer games
I would prefer 21xx or even 25xx made September 2010 or earlier, this model 20xx could (rarely) have NEC token issues, but look at the bright side, you could downgrade it to 3.15 and have linex 😁
3:37 this is not true, all PS3 models came with AV cables. The PS4 was the first system to have HDMI in the box. Because you got a used ps3 the dude probably long discarded the av cables and gave you the hdmi cable he was using for it
I jailbraiked (jailbroke?) the fat but I don't use it because it sounds like an airport. I'm playing a physical copy of God of War Collection on my Superslim which can't be jailbroken I think.
There's a issue with PS3 controller the foam in them that separated the board gets squished and wore down a piece of cardboard cut to size usually fixs it

The PS3 never came with an HDMI cord. EVER. even the Slim and Super slim. You just got the composite cable. Even check the list on the box.

It does suck that the OG ps3s are ticking time bombs, but if you still use one just make sure you have that ps+ auto save upload stuff on it's a gamechanger. Saved me from losing all my stuff from when mine died and i moved over to the same model in this video.

I too have a PS3 original it's the one after PS2 backwards compatibility and it still works but I have it turned off. Using my slim which I like more and with 1tb storage and jailbroken 😎 love it 😊

I see what you mean about wanting to keep your original backwards compatible PS3 standard, but I modded mine so it could have an SSD which I can install games to. Reduces load times, preserves the laser, and helps keep the internal temperature down a bit.

Love my ps3 slim its still going strong after 14 years. I remembered picking up assassins creed brotherhood fantastic game especially if you like history, resident evil 5, red alart, some ww2 combat flying game something birds of prey, lord of the rings conquest, and lord of the rings aragons quest which kind of sucked lol off a used game website. Unfortunately i sold most of my ps3 games planning to build it up once again some time.
Shadows of the dammed is a gem very uniuqe game play its mostly a 3rd and fps shooter but it will throw some intresting game play styles at you also if you dont have the darkness 1,2 it worth picking up fun fps games centered around hell.
Here's some back pain tips from someone who's back is so bad they can't even sit longer than 15 minutes: Get rid of any racing chairs not part of sims. They have terrible effects on bad backs. Go to an Office Depot and try out chairs. It'll dip into collecting money, but a chair that is absolutely amazing for your specific spine will pay off in spades. Also use liquid lidocaine sticks. You can get them at any pharmacy just sitting on shelves, it's not controlled in any way and they work to a point. If it gets bad enough, see if you can get prescribed gabapentin. It's not an opiate and it just calms the nerves down. Posture will still be very important despite the pain involved.
Slims are my fav model of the PS3. Quieter, cooler, more reliable, smaller footprint, way more aesthetically pleasing to the eye than the big plastic boi. I have a PS3 fat that I bought new, two 320 Gb Slims that I bought new, and an official Sony PS3 Slim that I bought to test jailbreaking, homebrewing and upgrading. Slims are the best models.

Honestly it's fairly easy to jailbreak the PS3. And it's well worth it. I only have HEN on my super slim and it's amazing. Being able to run full CFW on that bad boy you got there is going to be an absolute game changer. Also I agree with keeping the original console the way it is. Just makes sense.
FYI All versions of the PS3 had HDMI day one. It was the Xbox 360 Core and Pro editions released a year earlier that lacked HDMI.

i understand wanting to keep your original ps3 stock, but real talk, jail break it. you can keep your system cooler than syscon does, and if you ever wanted to, a simple software update can undo it.

I have 2 slims with JB running, each with their own set of exclusives; bought them for 20$ each, best invest ever. Just got my hands on a (broken) backwards compatible model; hope to revive it. JB is VERY easy, just follow straight forward guides. If you do things step by step you just visit website, clear cookies, visit website and done; after that, just install the CFW (I have evilnat, but I am sure there is not much of a difference between them)

Mr. Mario has plenty of jailbreaking videos for the PS3. It's not hard at all, and you should be just fine. I encourage doing it as it gives you a lot more control over system features and many other fancy tricks.

Ah yes, the amount of heat coming out of the 60 gig PS3... 😄I haven't used mine since it got the YLOD many many years ago, but I still remember my reaction to the heat coming out of that thing when I started it up for the first time. My apartment usually gets ridiculously hot during summer, and I immediately thought: "ok, so no PS3 gaming during the summer months then..."
I have a 2001A from Sept 09. Once the store drops off, Im going to jailbreak it. I love the OG firmware and could keep it as a glorified PS2 but I put a 1tb SSD in it and I have only so much music and movies to fill that

There are only advantages to a jailbroken PS3 Slim. It is a great device with which you can backup PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. You can also set a slightly more aggressive fan curve to increase the lifespan of the device

I still own my original 60GB fatty but it’s broken. Blu-ray drive voltage chip burned out. I know how to fix it but am hesitant. Plus have to source the part from another broken PS3 which is a dicey scenario. I just bought a ps3 slim which was filthy and ended up doing a massive cleaning, repasted, and changed battery while I was in there. Oh also added a 1TB SSD (cool and quiet!). That thing seriously was so dirty. So dirty, in fact, that it inspired me to buy another…but this time a super slim. So now I have all three models…not sure where I’m going with this but yea the PS3 rocks. I love the XMB.
Hey man, if you got the cash, like 600 bucks. You can send in your fat PS3 to get frankensteined. What it does, is it puts a PS3 slim 40nm RSX into the fat. Eliminating the YLOD. Sony actually used to do these if you sent in your PS3 fat to them around 2009-2011. Look it up. It's worth it if you're serious about keeping your BC PS3 alive. Because those things die quick.
Only do that once it ylods. Don't mess with a working system. Let it last as long as it can before you start doing mods like that. It'll last even longer like that.

I am pretty sure you don't have to worry about the firmware if you have the right model because basically all the jailbreak methods want the newest firmware. Meaning, you can just update it as normal before performing the jailbreak. I could be wrong on this, this is just what I have gathered from other videos.
Super slim is more reliable! The slim disc tray will fail. The mechanism that slides the disc in will fail! Thats why the ps5 slim has detachable disc drive. ❤
If I recall correctly shadow of the damned (I might be wrong and mistaking it for no more heroes) but I think shadows of the damned the same people behind lollipop chainsaw were involved. Also lollipop chainsaw is a lot of fun

My first PS3 was the 60GB with backwards compatibility. It died after a couple years. I think it was caused by a 7,200 RPM drive I put in it. I think that made it too hot and caused problems. I still have an original PS3 Slim. The Blu-ray drive died though so I can only play digital games.
With regards to the fat ps3 , if you can find someone in Canada that can swap the GPU with the 40 nm GPU found on the slims it will be extremely reliable.
jailbreak was super easy, I even had the latest firmware when I did it. no issues at all
I had a PS3 Slim from 2011 and when I checked if it could be jailbroken it just so happened to be the exact model that shipped with either the last viable firmware or the first one that can't be jailbroken depending purely on luck, and as luck would have it mine was literally one of the first ones that couldn't be jailbroken, so I was heartbroken instead.

I got a PS3 slim back in 2009 when that released because I never had the original one, since the original one released in 2006 when I was still using my PS2. If you really want to jailbreak the one you got on ebay you could be banned from it, so I wouldn't risk it, but if you really want to that's up to you, since I have never jailbroken mine, I'm against Console jail breakers because they can cheat, and cheating is what's killing multiplayer games

I would prefer 21xx or even 25xx made September 2010 or earlier, this model 20xx could (rarely) have NEC token issues, but look at the bright side, you could downgrade it to 3.15 and have linex 😁
BTW you can use a plugged in Dualshock4 on the PS3 ((my preferred controller (v1 not v2)) and the Dualsense Edge, also if its plugged in.

3:37 this is not true, all PS3 models came with AV cables. The PS4 was the first system to have HDMI in the box. Because you got a used ps3 the dude probably long discarded the av cables and gave you the hdmi cable he was using for it

There's a issue with PS3 controller the foam in them that separated the board gets squished and wore down a piece of cardboard cut to size usually fixs it
Yours is a 2000 series, most will run full CFW
3000 onwards you can run partial HFW which is still good
