If anyone is planning on getting a 360. Please find one that is a phat Jasper model from 2009-2010. Those are the most reliable and never red ring due to a general hardware failure. Slims are fine, too. Just dont buy a 360 from 2005-2008.
Gotcha. I found an Xbox Elite at a Good Will for $20 alone. It was barley dust on the outside, but I still need to check it out inside. I think its barely dusty
The Falcon models are also rather reliable. Pulled one from the trash and after a good clean it has worked consistently. Avoid the Xenon’s and Zephyr’s.
@@aegonthedragon7303 Yeah Falcons are alright, too. If you want to pick up a Falcon you gotta make sure it hasn't had a history of red ringing. Typically if there are any Falcons out there that have never red ringed, then itll probably never red ring.
I forgot about the E models that were made to look a little like the OG Xbox One. I think I still have my Xbox 360 Slim somewhere, I traded my white Arcade for it when it released.
Last year I found an Xbox 360 S on top of my apartments garbage, took it inside and it started right up and I still had my old controllers and games from my dead Xbox. It revived my love for the console.
Funny enough I just got a ps4 a couple months ago. I played k214 and kingdom hearts 2 god knows how many times. I still play 2k14 to this day when I’m bored. Both are plugged in side by side. I like that I don’t have to pay for anything just plug and go.
@Zachary Erickson yup think it was 05 when I got it…I had a ps2 that stopped reading disks and I also had the og Xbox too so I upgraded to HD with the 360…I remember also getting a hd flatscreen around the same time just so I can play the games in hd…ah good times lol
The 360 has, in my view, become very much a classic console. Casting aside the obvious design flaws of the early models, it was just such a pleasure to own; the online functionality and graphics were really great for the time.
@@verothacamaro I feel the reason why old games can look ugly is because of our displays doing not a very good job upscaling, it's not that I'm a snob its that games like on the nintendo switch for example don't look great on a large 4k tv, but on a 1080p TV nintendo switch games look really good
This console brings back so many memories. Playing Halo 3 with friends after school In high-school was some of the best multiplayer experiences I've had.
@@Nice_Places more like the most boring ; nobody cares about your era of one-and-done pixelated games that took 30 minutes to beat . wouldn’t even be considered worth an indie nowadays😂. that “golden era” has been objectively out-done and succeeded .
I've got my 360 Elite from high school sitting in a console rack next to my PC in my office. I've had so many wonderful memories with it and having a bunch of old consoles with HDMI ports has really helped alleviated some of my issues with modern gaming.
Yeah, even though I went through like seven of them with the red ring, didn't have to pay for any of it they would just replace it if it was too broken, with a new console. But this didn't phase me I still think it's one of the best
Still have mine and play it regularly, love the 360 and prefer that generation for games the most of any gen. Have my Xbox original too and still play that too.
the switch is the place to go for that, but yea Sony and Microsoft are pretty much only going for single player experiences and online multiplayer games. wishin we could go back to halo game nights with your friends and some Pizza Hut lol.
The 360 still has a special place in my heart. It was the first console i saved up money for as a kid, to buy. It was also what got me into rock music, and to this day i still listen to skindred.
@@fabianramirez7807 My first one was the basic white one that eventually had to be replaced due to the red ring of death, but through that I got the elite model. The only thing I miss is my wood grain face plate.
My brother saved up for the 360 Elite in 08 and we both played Guitar Hero Aerosmith all the time together and we would "perform" for our family lol. Good memories.
360 to me holds only a spot in a trash can being that is what they are trash. These are the worst consoles ever made plagued with serious issues and it is funny to see those who know nothing about them praise junk lmao. I have worked on many and even stopped wasting my time on them due to them breaking again and working on a 360 is child’s play. Like working on nvidia android or Samsung products waste of time working on junk.
Still have mine from 2009. It’s been hooked up ever since. Mainly used as a DVD player on my retro gaming setup now but I still pop in games from time to time. Left 4 dead and ghostbusters the game most recently.
I love the 360, so many good Memories. I like It so much that I actually have two. The funny thing about watching this video Is that he says "that's pretty Easy" multiple times, and to me It all looks like Rocket science, and I would be terrified to remove any piece and then not knowing how or where to put It back. You know your stuff and that's refreshing to see.
Wow Metatron I did not expect to find you here of all places! Also I agree, I would never risk taking apart my Xbox for fear of destroying it. Thanks for your amazing content btw:)
@@sarge2860 it really is deadly easy to take apart the 360. It’s like opening the back of a key fob to change the battery, and many people don’t know how to do that 😆😆😆
I remember we used to talk my buddy's parents into letting us stay over so we could have a little LAN party and then get kicked out in the middle of the night because we were being too loud and having to lug a backpack full of 360 equipment while carrying a 20" CRT TV to the car and then the following weekend promising we'd stay quiet if they let us stay and then immediately breaking that promise and getting kicked out all over again. Lol
With the Valve Steamdeck coming out and Halo MCC on Steam, it does have me thinking about those lan parties again, with portable PCs having a chance to take off I'd love to see lan parties make a return
Now is a perfect time for it too since everyone's sleeping on the entire Xbox line HARD. The positive to this though is great prices for amazing games! And many games in the 6th and 7th console generation just flat out played better on the Xbox for numerous reasons.
A lot of the 360 and PS3 games have been re-released so it's best to focus on the more exclusive titles first , the others like Skyrim , GTA 5 , the bioshock series , dark souls , Borderlands all won't be worth anything much any time soon . A lot of great deals to be had right now .
Waste of time to collect for also, when 360’s sit they degrade. I have 13 or 14 of them in a storage container all non working from sitting and ones that just died lol. The components used were straight junk just like the one and the two newer piles of trash. Other then the original unit for the most part all other xboxes are overrated junk.
@@jrapocalypse I think I'll take my chances LoL . I've never had a problem with a MS console . I have a Xbox series x and my 360 from 2006. It doesn’t have a hdmi. I modded it to the Liam li case with better heat sinks. It’s still running strong to this day and I love using it. Games from that era are one of the best. The user interface is so simple too. I don’t think avatars will come back on next gen Xbox’s.
I really like how you make something feel non threatening to dive into. My 360 was starting to have issues with the bay too, so I haven't touched it in years. Now I feel comfortable cracking it open and fixing it. Especially since I've taken to PC building, and it's not so scary going into something you know to expect. Keep up the great work!
Same! My 360 E disc tray was stuck so I thought it was breaking and I just didn’t play it in like 7 months because I was scared of it but I recently fixed it and it works perfectly fine
@@Chris-dy1cbdirt cheap is right! I bought three this month for under 100. A 2007 refurbished Zephyr, 2009 v2 Jasper and a 2011 slim. Now I must clean and repaste them all. For the winter, I want to use the older refurbished one I own.
I was old enough to pick a playstation or a N64 and now I'm old enough to get me kids the latest but want them to know the history and respect the consoles and they LOVE the 360
I have 4 360's between myself and my 3 kids that work perfectly... Years ago I also got CHEAP 4 copies of nearly every LAN capable games for the system... It's really fun to have LAN parties from time to time...
I remember getting an early version. No HDMI. And I played the hell out of Oblivion and Saints Row. Saints row was a shiny San Andreas. Just to hold us over till GTA 4. Oblivion was life.
I still have mine from 2009 that lacks the HDMI port. It still works great. I’d still have my original 360 from 2006 if my friend hadn’t red ringed it, which is when I got the 2009 replacement from Microsoft.
This was for me the first console that perfected online play on consoles. The original dashboard was so cool and useful. The best online memories are Gears of War 1, COD 4 and Dead or Alive 4. A shame later they updated and changed it so finding an XBL Arcade game took like 12 clicks rather than going to the separate arcade tab.
Yup. I only played the og Xbox online at my friends house, his older brother had that all set up. I didn’t even have internet at the time, so when I got the 360 I had internet and finally played a console online at my own house. So fun, love the 360
I love how you explain every little thing step by step as you disassemble the console. And some history and difference with other versions of the console. Just great!
It baffles me how the 360 and the edgy Shadow the Hedgehog GameCube game released on the same month, I just can't reconcile those two things in my mind lol
I bought a sealed, factory new 360 last year with a fresh applied RGH by the store I bought it from...great system indeed. Sits in my shelf besides the other consoles i collect. I hook it up to the TV once in a while, remembering the great gaming experience back then.
@@hungrybartender6388 Yeah, I was lucky. It was the last 360 he had sitting in stock for some while and the last one he actually modded, he discontinued 360s in general, as the system is kinda outdated and sales where down...as I said brand new system incl. perfectly applied RGH and drive patch...I don't know what I paid exactly anymore but it was around 250Euro. I also send him my old 360 drive and he copied all the data (saves etc) to the new drive and send it back to me with the system then...runs buttery smooth.
White Xbox 360, Halo 2, split screen slayer with 3 other friends so screen is split in 4 sections, no xbox live, just killing each other and getting mad when you KNOW someone is screen peeking. Those were some of the best times ever. So simple and fun.
I never had a 360 when they were relevant (I was a Sony/Nintendo guy) but decided to get one recently as a companion device for my PC for games of that gen that never came out. I was shocked at how hard it was to find a system in good, CLEAN, working order. Every single system was scratched or filthy and forget about the controllers. I eventually found a new old stock system and despite the price, just went for it. I don't know what it says about the audience that bought 360s that they are all destroyed now but yeah, I'm having fun with it and really like the interface and how everything works in general on it.
It came out one year ahead of the competition and significantly cheaper than the PS3 for a few years, there were probably a lot of kids who got, PlayStation has more name recognition and its loyal fans waiting for it to come out eventually, many people that weren’t kids anymore, had had the previous generations and had the income too buy the new one, so my guess is that the 360 was hitting a younger demographic while the PS3 would mostly appeal to the older audience, until it got redesigns and price reductions, outselling the 360 at the end
The majority of those were probably owned by kids . The fact that they still work at all after all that abuse is a miracle . Comes with the territory when your base price is $200 cheaper than the competition (PS3) .
I guess most of us with well cared for systems simply refuse to give them up, I still have my Halo Reach edition Slimtype Xbox 360, it's still beautiful, even if it's dwarfed by the Desktop PC that I game on now
Sucks for you that you never got to experience the original 360 Blades dashboard user interface. That was THE most responsive dashboard Microsoft has ever released for the 360.
I play my 360 all the time. It has that same disc issue. I figured out the tray doesn't get stuck though when there's already a disc inside, so that's what I've been doing for the past 10 years with it. But now I'm definitely looking forward to opening it and cleaning that rubber band! Thanks!
I also have a 360 that I play and have played for many years. I have taken it apart for various reasons and issues but I have never researched the open/stuck. I had a bad experience with a CD/RW on a PC build back in the day and was super rusty, so I never thought about it. This may work. I will look at the band, but I think than many may find that rubber bands start to deteriorate over time. May just need a new one. This is very interesting.
“The Xbox 360 turns 16 this year” Which means it’s finally old enough to be own a car. And only 5 years away from being able to consume alcohol, and only 19 years away from running for president.
For people that don't want to tear the xbox apart, there is a manual release for the disc tray and you can use a tweesers to remove the belt to wash it.
Just picked up a new 360 a few months backs. Been loving going back through some old games. The system I got is in great condition. Its a slim. Very happy to have it in the collection.
*THIS^^^^^* It's the best Xbox dashboard that Microsoft made in terms of performance though my favorite dashboard in terms of aesthetics is easily the original Xbox dashboard.
I was using my 360 up until a few months ago and agree that the blade interface was the best. The newer one was too congested and inefficient. On my Series S I just can't come to like the layout--as much as I didn't like the PS4 interface at first it's my favorite since the Blade 360.
@@406Steven The latest UI is called Metro which is what the 360 and Xbox One and/or Xbox Series uses. The original 360 UI was the Blades dashboard. Then it got replaced with the sleeker-looking but sluggish NXE dashboard (New Xbox Experience). Then that got replaced with the Metro dashboard which has similarities with Windows 8.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M the UI I had on mine still scrolled across a vertical list of categories with a screen full of various things to load and advertisements. The power brick on these things were bad ass. You could run 3 12v sources off the thing with very little to no modifications. Straight from the pins. This was my bench tester when I wanted to modify dash components in my truck
fun fact about that ir remote sensor. it is basically 100% compatible with Microsoft media center ir remotes. learned this fact accidentally when i was still living in my student dorm and i was just messing around with the media center remotes that came with my windows vista powered hp pavilion dv6732eo laptop. i had my door open and so had my friend who was playing something on his xbox360, when suddenly his console was turned off by my remote. that resulted a loud PERKELE!! from him, but also we then put a dvd in his 360 and started to test out just how compatible the console really was with that remote. kinda interesting to see how close the two halfwes of Microsoft were working together to make this kind of thing happen.
I own an XBox-1x, but I have kept my old 360 with several old games of Fallout 3 on board. It's great for a quick nostalgic wander around the Wasteland whenever I feel like it.

I got my 360 slim last December as my first ever home console (I'd been wanting one ever since I was a kid) and I love it so, so much. The games run beautifully and in particular Tomb Raider holds up incredibly well even in comparison to more recent PS4 games. Thanks for a great video!
Some 360 games still look amazing, eg Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012, Black Ops 2... what a time. 2010-2013, high quality games still with the refinement and care given to that generation’s games
The best thing about living in a developing country is that we can buy all these consoles years after they were discontinued at a good price, especially good controllers.
This video was informative and such but I was expecting a reasoning to why you got the 360, maybe some favorite games, and or memories of your time with the 360. Not a breakdown of the whole internals.
Same. Good video and repair tutorial, but the title ends with "Here's Why" ... we never seem to get to the part. I was watching to the end for the "and this is why I bought it" part. I guess it is implied that it is because he expects them to keep rising in value?
@@drawk001 thanks for describing the video, I’m in the first few mins and won’t waste my time. If I may weigh in, if that is indeed his reason, it’s very far-fetched if not delusional. There are dozens of these up for grabs at $20-40 in my local market, if his point was even remotely valid I should stock up on hundreds of these bricks and fill up my apartment in anticipation of the purported value increase. He probably read some propaganda piece pushed by retro game valuation sites.
I haven’t had one in a decade, and weirdly enough I remember clearly how the console felt in my hands, not the controller , but the console, as if it was yesterday, the weight, the tactile feel of the eject and power button. This was the most iconic looking Xbox of them all, reminds me of the PS5 a bit
@Used to be MAD MAX you’re partially right, it is more distinct indeed, but also ugly and outdated, and the first Xbox wasn’t nearly as popular as the 360. The 360’s design could easily be still used today though
I gotta agree here man, xbox360 should stay around forever. If it’s not broke why fix it? Classic system, so many good games and will be playable for ages.
Lan party kids really do remember the weight and feel, and gathering all the TVs in the house while getting all the 360s connected to a network switch to get the fun started
As an older gamer, I had the white fan noisy beast at launch. I went through 4 Xbox's (baked 2 of them) until the black glossy version came out, the only one still alive. I still rescue them from thrifting, I see a lot of white ones out there but usually skip them due to RROD. I have kept a cosmetically sound white one with a broken disc drive that I can easily fix. Funny thing is...last time I was at Goodwill outlet, I saw this kid, maybe 19-20yrs old..pick up a white HDMI 360 that I just passed on, he shows it to his friend in excitement "Look..it's one of those old Xbox's, I think it's pretty rare!". I felt sort of old..lol. You are on to something about this being a collectable retro console at some point...like I said, they are getting thrown away on a regular basis..it's only a matter of time before they get low in numbers and the crowd that grew up with them as kids, gets older and nostalgic about them. The demand/price goes up then.
I still remember getting my first 106cm lcd TV and getting the 360 plugged in I was blown away at the huge difference in graphics and when bioshock came out wow just wow, I'm yet to seen such a jump in graphical quality ever since the 360.

I love it when Jonathan makes these videos. It's cool to see him talk about the consoles from the perspective of a professional repairman and a player.
I love the 360 but I don't consider the launch model to rappresent the best the console has to offer. The slim console is the sweet spot. It solved many problems the previous version had, such as loud fan noise and various issues due to frequent overheating, as well as introducing a built in Wi-Fi module. Xbox 360 is still supported today by Xbox Live, Xbox Live Gold, Games with Gold, and various apps such as RUclips and Netflix. Also the online store is supported, and it boasts a great catalog, with many classics and hidden gems worth checking out. The graphics are not cutting edge, but many games still hold up today. It is also one of those consoles that is actually plug and play. It will do all the basic things without the need of an internet connection (play games, play music CDs, play movies on DVD). As all real consoles should be, it's better once connected to the internet, as opposed to useless unless connected.
My favourite console so far. Been gaming since early 90's. Wireless controllers, my first online gaming and phenomenal game library. Skyrim, Arkham City, Burnout and my all time favourite game series, Mass Effect.
I have a original xbox360 and for the longest time i had to smack the top for the drive to open. Lol I ended up cleaning the rubber band. And it's still kicking.
@Zachary Erickson Lol, remember seeing Baten Kaitos and Fire Emblem for sale super cheap at Target when the 360 came out. My friends hated the GameCube Fire Emblem for good reason (it was ugly and short compared to other games), but it is now expensive.
I bought a Microsoft refurbished Zephyr a few weeks ago for about 30 bucks. It was serviced in 2009 so it should be somewhat reliable. I want to use it as my main system for the winter months. I bought a black Jasper last week for under 20 bucks. If my refurbished 2007 Zephyr dies I'll just jump to the Jasper.
Cool to watch. I still have my original Xbox and my 360 both of which I played the heck out of. The 360 was my favorite for a very long time until I started playing JRPGs on the PS2. I never did get into the Xbox One but am loving my Series X.
I still have my Xbox 360 console sitting right next to my Xbox One S and I don't plan on ever letting it go or replace it with a much superior system. The Xbox 360 was a childhood favorite of mine and there's still a lot of games that I want to play on the system that I never got to play as a kid, especially the games that are not backwards compatible with Xbox One. I even have a NTSC-J region Xbox 360 console to play some Japanese exclusive games on.
360 pad is still my main PC controller. I saw that they were going the way of the dodo so I bought three and picked the best parts so I could build the ultimate pad.
I’ve still got my 360 e model and I honestly loved the small compact form of it and I’ve got so many fond memories of the og cod games as a kid and the fun Xbox live arcade games, those were some great times😁
Holy throwback. I used to repair these in college and modded my own. I think I have it laying around somewhere and I have a ton of original 360 controllers too!
I'm gonna be 21 later this year, and I already just feel... Old... The Xbox 360 was my childhood, and to hear that some people haven't experienced the 7th gen? Time flies by, man...
Similar situation here. I turn 19 this year. I didn't get a 360 until the month after the One came out because I wasn't interested in what were the HD consoles at the time (had been on PS2 and Wii for years). The 360 got me through fifth grade and middle school and I will always appreciate for that.
My favorite system of all time. I have 2 of these still haunting my closet. You have given me knowledge & confidence to get them back to fighting shape. Thank you for all that you do for us. Bless you for sharing.
This system was such a huge pain in the ass. But great software and its UI/features I still think is the most groundbreaking for modern console gaming.
It was such a love/hate relationship. They got so many things right and so many things wrong. I remember choosing one over a PS3 knowing full well that the PS3 was the better console because all my friends had 360s and the community aspect was done so much better.
A few months ago I deadass knew my Xbox 360 S wasn't going to work perfectly liked I hoped it to instead but nah i got a ventilation error when I booted up my PS3 worked solid just have to get a new controller though
I just bought an Xbox 360 the other day, the old black “Elite” model with a 120GB hard drive, for 50 bucks. It was in very good condition, but it was wiped and updated to the current 360 firmware, but it’s a console I’ve wanted to get my hands on for a long while, solely for offline games and original Xbox and 360 games that don’t work on the XB1/Series.
@Calx I wouldn't even give it that. It's only 2 generations back. Let's all stop trying to grow up too fast and just relax and wait for retro to happen. You'll feel old soon enough. I promise. :)

Wasn't expecting a tear-down and maintenance video, but that was a nice bonus. Might change out the thermal paste on mine since it won't stay powered on for long, probably due to overheating issues.
That disk drive problem is of course very common with optical disk drives in general, not just X360 or even console disk drives. Question: I used to repair these drives back in the day, and (when I didn't have replacement bands) I did just wash them off for a while but then I started using chemical rubber renewer on them. Thing is, since if it fails again it'd be after some period of time (and even if it came back I wouldn't be likely to see it), I never really knew if the renewer was making a difference or it was just snake oil. Do you have any experience with that stuff, and did you notice if it helped longevity any?
This video popped up today and it inspired me to fix the rrod on my 360. I actually couldn't believe how easy it was. Thanks to one of the recommended videos. A couple hours later and I'm playing fallout 3 for the first time in like 12 years. (I had to come back to this video to say that, I get excited about the little things)
I have a friend that loves the Xbox 360 controller and still uses the USB version for PC gaming. Every few years his will wear out and he'll have to buy another one. Finding a brand new original controller is next to impossible, as they go for over $100, but recently he was able to get one for $30. The seller didn't know the value of what they had.
Loved perfect dark zero! Still do! I've got a jasper phat model that I've got the fan sped up to highest speed via rgh mod. I bought that one brand new and just replaced the thermal paste. I put money mine will last. I did also do the xclamp fix when I 1st bought it. Going on 13 or 14 years old. Oh, I also added aluminum tape to extend the plastic shroud further down the heat sync. The aluminum tape on the disk drive may have been to reduce vibration noise.
Love the system! I have an Xbox 360 Final Fantasy Limited Edition "Super Elite" model (Its an white elite model but with an 120GB harddrive) and an 250GB model of the last one sold back in 2016 (purchased in 2016 as last one to find in stock in the entire town) as a future back-up console. Not wanting to brag about it, but as I said I love the system and have collected over the years about 330 titles for the system including 20-25 Kinect games. Most games are also purchased as used games. Just to sad there is no time playing all those games :-/. As an adult you don't have the time any longer.
Growing up we always had Playstation, I was born in 1995 so as a younggg child we had a PS1 ( and Sega Game Gear ) and I had alot of fun with it forsure. Twisted Metal, Tomb Raider, Demolition Derby etc. Then in 2000 we got the PS2 and again great memories with that, esp bc I was getting old enough to actually play thru games. But in 7th grade ( 2006-2007 ) after doing work for an entire summer and first half of the school year, at holiday time I had enough money saved up to buy a 360 and I did and never turned back. I didn't have alot but I bought myself the Arcade model and Halo 3 and man.. I loved that thing. So many years of great memories. My friend had a PS3 and I just couldn't get into PS anymore. Unfortunately, my step dad was addicted to h when I was in high school and pawned it. But I did eventually get a One S in 2016 and luckily was able to get a Series X pre order last year and both have always been flawless. The Series X is amazing, hands down am happier with it than the PS5. I'm not a console wars fan boy either, I just prefer Xbox lol. But seeing these 360 videos brings back so many good memories man.
I can't believe the 360 is 17 years old. I was just a kid when it released. I'll always remember the butterflies in my stomach when dad took me to get one
I bought a working 360 "arcade" from a thrift store with three controllers and a wireless adapter for $20 last year.. still works to this day. I'll never get that lucky again in my life..
This is actually a really great idea for a project. I've got quite a few 360 games to the right of me and it would be much more enjoyable to play them without the machine taking off like an airplane
I must have went through 20 consoles. I used to have two consoles. Just to have one sent Out being repaired always while I wait I had the back up. Then the back up would break and use and cycle through. I remember having to buy a new one because I got a disc error on vacation for a month. Paid full retail for an arcade edition lol. Spent way to much with disc read errors
glad I'm not the only one who seems to never have a working disc tray. reading disc open tray close tray disc unreadable closed tray open tray discs is unreadable
Seeing how amazing halo 3 looked makes me ask why we needed any other game. The graphics are amazing even now. Everyone who makes games gotta take notes on halo 3
I still play mine to this day. Its fantastic. Plus, getting achievements are much easier than the games released nowadays. Currently playing Lego: The Hobbit
You must not play all the shovelware Indies available now. Btw I don't blame you, I don't play that trash either but a lot of bottomfeeder achievement hunters do so they can pad and over represent their gamerscore with garbage. There's games you can get 1000 points in minutes. 360 had the right idea keeping Indies at 200 or 400 gs

My falcon red ringed.
Last year I found an Xbox 360 S on top of my apartments garbage, took it inside and it started right up and I still had my old controllers and games from my dead Xbox. It revived my love for the console.

The 360 S and 360 E are ones that can’t red ring so your lucky for finding that!
The one thing that blew my mind when I got my 360 was being able to turn on the system with the controller...that was a huge game changer lol

The 360 has, in my view, become very much a classic console. Casting aside the obvious design flaws of the early models, it was just such a pleasure to own; the online functionality and graphics were really great for the time.

I miss the 360 days. Back when huge Halo LAN parties were a thing
Lol
"Oh, but Xbox Live is so rich and robust. You don't need splitscreen!"

This really has me glad to have two working 360's in storage. Time to start getting more games for the collection.

As an older gamer, I had the white fan noisy beast at launch. I went through 4 Xbox's (baked 2 of them) until the black glossy version came out, the only one still alive. You are on to something about this being a collectable retro console at some point...like I said, they are getting thrown away on a regular basis..it's only a matter of time before they get low in numbers and the crowd that grew up with them as kids, gets older and nostalgic about them.

When you traded in your GameCube collection in order to get a 360 at launch…it was fun at the time, but in hindsight, not worth it.
@Zachary Erickson Lol, remember seeing Baten Kaitos and Fire Emblem for sale super cheap at Target when the 360 came out. My friends hated the GameCube Fire Emblem for good reason (it was ugly and short compared to other games), but it is now expensive.
Thought u were gonna say but in hindsight… totally worth it! lol
I was 14y old when i took a summer job only so i could buy Xbox 360. Good memories.
For any of those wondering, the 360 in the video is a Zephyr revision
I bought a Microsoft refurbished Zephyr a few weeks ago for about 30 bucks. It was serviced in 2009 so it should be somewhat reliable.
I want to use it as my main system for the winter months.
I bought a black Jasper last week for under 20 bucks. If my refurbished 2007 Zephyr dies I'll just jump to the Jasper.
I remember standing in line the day the 360 came out and getting one with a 20gb hard drive with perfect dark zero and doa4
Love my 360, its loud as hell but still love it.
Try having the 12v fan mod done to it like i have on all mine now that's what you call loud 🤣
My xbox 360 has a jet engine inside it with certain games 😂
16 years? Ugh. I still remember how excited I was when Sony showed their augmented reality card game on one of E3s.
The 360 pad is the best. I got the newer Xbox wireless pads and it’s just not the same for pc.
I’ve still got my 360 e model and I honestly loved the small compact form of it and I’ve got so many fond memories of the og cod games as a kid and the fun Xbox live arcade games, those were some great times😁
I got mine at a yard sale for $5 and it still works amazing today
i made a living in middle school fixing xbox 360's , memories ...
Well Atari 2600 was my childhood pal, so don’t sweat it
My favorite system of all time.
@@406Steven what is better with the ps3 ?
@@hondamanvtec2894 It's more powerful and more reliable
A few months ago I deadass knew my Xbox 360 S wasn't going to work perfectly liked I hoped it to instead but nah i got a ventilation error when I booted up my PS3 worked solid just have to get a new controller though
@@406Steven also psn was free for the ps3.
Is that the Jasper model?
You're so passionate, we love you
Oh Christ, this is retro now? This is my most recent console.
No, the 360 is not retro yet. People are just jumping the gun a bit. lol
@Calx
I wouldn't even give it that. It's only 2 generations back. Let's all stop trying to grow up too fast and just relax and wait for retro to happen. You'll feel old soon enough. I promise. :)
@@G360LIVE It is retro wether you like it not
@@Mr.Jim89
Your defensiveness shows that you know, deep inside, that it's not retro, and for whatever reason, you just don't like that it's not retro yet.
@@G360LIVE Now that is what I call projection. 360 and PS3 are retro. Only people who don't accept this fact are kids/teens or adults, immature ones that refuse to grow up.
Wasn't expecting a tear-down and maintenance video, but that was a nice bonus. Might change out the thermal paste on mine since it won't stay powered on for long, probably due to overheating issues.
Wow that describes the listing I almost bought for a broken 360, seems like you bought the listing! Saw it sold before I could get it lol.
Good job! It’s really the little things in life to be thankful for.
MS should reissue the 360 controller as a special/anniversary release or something, such great ergonomics, it was really gold.
@@niteflash06 It's a fantastic PC controller!
The 360 controller was amazing
Incredible how the progress evolved in 15 years! The 360 was very loud and hot, the Series X|S instead is very quiet and extremely powerful!
I have an Xbox 360 E is that rarer than normal 360s?
Love the system! I have an Xbox 360 Final Fantasy Limited Edition "Super Elite" model (Its an white elite model but with an 120GB harddrive) and an
250GB model of the last one sold back in 2016 (purchased in 2016 as last one to find in stock in the entire town) as a future back-up console.
Yes!!! Tomb Raider. I am Big Tomb Raider Fan 💯 and Forever. and I Grow up on PS1 and PS2 and PS3 I am PlayStation woman.
@@Lilugh haha did you ever lock the butler in the freezer? 😂
@@_dmfd Yes. 😂
We had 512 mb memory cards way back then. Things sure have changed…. I loved my 360. It was my first “current gen” system
Same, got mine for Christmas 2012 tho, so it was only “current” for another year, lol
@@wachinimagaming4898 Yep. About the same. Got mine and Dark Souls on launch night. What a mistake lol
still playing it daily. going for the 7 Day Survivor achievement in Dead Rising any day now
That was the only achievement I couldn't get. Gave up after some tries. Good luck though!
This was a great video. I love it when you take stuff apart because I think I'm going to have to do that to my 360 pretty soon. Keep it up!
This is actually a really great idea for a project. I've got quite a few 360 games to the right of me and it would be much more enjoyable to play them without the machine taking off like an airplane
I'll never get rid of my 360. I had such a good time with that console.
I remember my 360 drawer wouldn't open found out it came from dust on the little rubber band that opens the tray. Clean it and u good
I still have my 360 slim from when it first came out my kids play it all the time
Two more years and the Xbox can drink with its father
Five years. It's an American machine so it has to wait until it's 21.
@Zachary Erickson Sega Genesis
@Zachary Erickson the OG Xbox was essentially a powered up Dreamcast
I must have went through 20 consoles. I used to have two consoles. Just to have one sent Out being repaired always while I wait I had the back up. Then the back up would break and use and cycle through. I remember having to buy a new one because I got a disc error on vacation for a month. Paid full retail for an arcade edition lol. Spent way to much with disc read errors
glad I'm not the only one who seems to never have a working disc tray. reading disc open tray close tray disc unreadable closed tray open tray discs is unreadable
Was your Arcade model a 2007 Zephyr like mine? Microsoft repaired it in 2009.
Seeing how amazing halo 3 looked makes me ask why we needed any other game. The graphics are amazing even now. Everyone who makes games gotta take notes on halo 3
I had the halo 3 elite edition and it was my first game I have ever played.
What about halo 4s graphics on 360?
I still play mine to this day. Its fantastic. Plus, getting achievements are much easier than the games released nowadays. Currently playing Lego: The Hobbit
You must not play all the shovelware Indies available now. Btw I don't blame you, I don't play that trash either but a lot of bottomfeeder achievement hunters do so they can pad and over represent their gamerscore with garbage. There's games you can get 1000 points in minutes. 360 had the right idea keeping Indies at 200 or 400 gs
Still have my halo 3 edition Xbox 360 works like a champ and one unopened one that I've had time capsuled since 2007
Nice! And for once I didn't sell the console so I'm actually ahead of the curve!!
