Honest review from an 8 years user: it works great but there are some side effects for me. Sometime it keeps me awake at night.I sweat more, and little unwanted movements of the foot during the evening. But damn it’s worth it! It was a life changer for me.

I've had Exploding head syndrome (EHS) all my life. Generally I get them when I'm extremely tired and usually on average of about 1-2 times every 2-3 months. When I missed 4 days of medication for Venlafaxine I experienced EHS a total of 8 times in the one night. Zaps were a constant over those 4 days. Extremely scary and I wouldn't recommend that withdrawal.

I did some research and the insomnia is supposed to last only a month and your brain gets use to it. But if I try effexor again and get better, I want to go back to school. Just wondering if the insomnia is too consistent. I’m looking on the internet for people who have experience with Effexor. Just want to know if say I went to school then started to study will I get sufficient sleep? Does it cause memory problems? I’m also hesitant to start again because I want to start working out too. If I start Effexor, I hope my body would get sufficient sleep. It sucks cause right now it feels like either be depressed, get sleep and do what I want to do or be happy and have insomnia. Haha

This drug makes me the closest to functional I've ever been, I have cptsd, bpd major depressive disorder & severe panic disorder. They are not to be fucked around with and the withdrawal is harsh but not impossible. I came off max dose (on it for five years at the time) and it was brutal but in a week the worst was over and in a month I was out of the woods. I've recently gone back on it and it helps keep my mood level, keeps my hypervigilance and catastrophising in check and my weight is back in a healthy range for the first time in years. It's not a wonder drug but if you have pretty serious mental health problems this drug could help, if your looking for a pill to make it all better it will mess you up good.

I stopped taking it on October this year after close to 3 years of being on it because I was diagnosed with Persistent Depressive Disorder but I'm back on it because of unforeseen circumstances happening in my life, mainly my bf deciding to break up with me and COVID cases on my family and myself. I started having self harm thoughts, something that the medication always kept at bay when I was on it, so I told my doctor and he thinks it's for the best to start with venlafaxine again.

When I weaned off 2 years ago I lost everything And it’s nearly impossible to maintain personal relationships. Ive been on this for over 10 years. 150 mg once a day. Severe anxiety disorder. Agoraphobia. Works really well for it and for the IBS. DO NOT MISS A DOSE. One missed dose will mess the brain up. Feels like a light switch flicking. Constipation has been the main side effect. If I could get off I would. But the anxiety and the IBS is %100 debilitating. ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Social Anxiety and PMDD. I told my doctor I suffer from PMDD symptoms where I "feel out of control", feel like screaming, and on edge and she put me on this medication. So far, this medicine has helped my stomach. I am not diagnosed with a stomach issue, but I used be sick every day and would go to the bathroom like clockwork every morning! At first, when I started this medication, I got scared because it made me constipated. But I'm now getting used to having "normal" bowel movements. It also has curbed my cravings by a whole lot. I used to be an anxious eater so I used to eat snacks 24/7 just to calm me down. But it's only been a few weeks and I've lost 2 inches around my waist, probably from eating less, being more mindful about portions, and from being less bloated all the time. But I think that's because my stomach is not over-working itself around the clock like it used to, and Effexor is slowing it down. Anxiety-wise, I think it's helped but I requested my doctor to increase my dose to 75mg and to see how that feels (because I still have intrusive thoughts). I'm on 37.5 and it's the 26th day. I've been taking it in the morning, and taking my birth control (Yaz) and Wellbutrin (150mg XR) at night. And let me tell you, the first few days, Venlaxafine was making me YAWN like I've never yawned before!!! The excessive yawning has subsided quite a bit now, though! I'm going to try taking the 75mg at night along with my other medications and see if that makes me feel better during the day versus feeling lethargic.

I went on this for CPTSD, social anxiety & panic disorder. It gave me back my own headspace and has totally eradicated my debilitating anxiety and panic. I was on a really high dose initially of 375mg. was at home unwell for 2 weeks so came off two of the 75mg capsules while I knew I didn't have to work. I didn't get brain zaps I don't think but I was in bed on antibiotics fighting an infection so may not have noticed them. I have insane nightmares on them and wake my partner up shouting in my sleep every now and again.. I also constantly crave carbs and sugar and have put some weight on. I've been having trauma therapy and am about to start EMDR so I'm going to keep slowly tapering off them until I'm completely off them. I feel like they've helped me during my hardest mental health period but I want to have tapered and come off them completely within the year since starting on them to try and avoid any long term issues or fear of ever successfully coming off them!

Well Im on 175mg xr currently. About 3-4months now. This med is a catch 22. I love the way it has slowed down my brain. I still do think 1000mph but only about 2 or 3 things at once vs like 6. But I feel like my old self only better. Im also in trauma therapy. Starting to do inner child work then emdr. I move 10/1, getting a service animal to wake me up when in terrors and to help me when in a disassociative state, also signing up for winter/spring classes and looking for pt job.
So, Im kinda stuck on it for a while. I do crave sugar nightly, eat tons of it. Am losing my hair, have blurry vision and eye pressure, sweats are getting better, tmj, foot pain esp in toe joints, insomnia or broken sleep, dry mouth that is improving, highest cholesterol my Dr has seen in over 5 to 10 yrs (from 3 month check up), some urinary/kidney issues being watched, and my chreatine levels are super high. Scariest and unsure if its connected, my lymphocytes are quite high as well. I eat a shit ton of bananas as they really help gut issues. Been on omeprizole for acid over 3 yrs now and now it isn't working. Terrible heart burn and tons of belches that must come out or it hurts. All new things to me over course of 3 or 4 months. Im going to get in to Dr soon to run more tests/labs. I pray I can continue to use effexor. I can read again and retain info. I dont freak out or over react as I did most of the time prior.
Well I hope and pray for your transition to go well and for therapy to be beneficial in dealing w your past trauma...

I have ADD, OCD, CPTSD, & generalized + social anxiety disorder & the panic attacks are literally debilitating. i started taking this 2 months ago & it is the ONLY medication that has had noticeable results. I started on 37.5mg & after a month my doctor upped my does to 75mg once a day. It has helped with the severity of my panic attacks & i've noticed I'm not being triggered quite as much but unfortunately the headaches it's giving me are freaking awful 😭 and they have only gotten worse with the increased dosage.
If you just started this medication or are thinking about starting make sure you've tried everything else, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, essential oils, cbd or other natural remedies, your gut health, working out, prayer, etc. Let this be your last result because if/when you stop taking it.. the withdrawals from SSRI's & SNRI's are downright brutal 😖💔

This drug is playing with fire. It helped a little bit at first then my memory went gone. I feel like a zombie and it gave me horrible physical and mental pain. Beyond description. And I could not sleep. Then the withdrawals were even more life destroying. I am now on ssi and see a neurologist and am in excruciating pain everyday. This drug is evil! Most people don't even understand once they get on this that it is beyond hell to get off and can cause permanent damage and side effects! My sister was only on 37.5 MG and was luck to get through the awful withdrawals in a couple months. Me, however, I was on 225 MG for years and it permanently damaged and destroyed my life. These drugs are hell, literally. Good luck.

So far 75MG is working well even though some years ago I was on 150ML. Been on this for about a week and can see the difference. Along with staying therapy this medication works really well for many people. While for others it's terrible. You just have to find out if your body can tolerate it.

Recently I decided to go back on this med due to SAD and most antidepressants (aside from effexor) do little to nothing, so here I am, back on it!. Question is this, my Dr started me out on adose of 150mg Effexor xr.. Isn't that kinda high as a starter dose?. (not a doctor so pls confirm with them or a pharmacist) i believe that the slow build up to a dose when it comes to most SSRI/SNRI drugs is to determine how you tolerate it, the side effects you experience, and your ideal therapeutic dose. i would imagine that if you were successfully taking 150mg/day previously, then your doc figured you'd be fine to start on that dose again? maybe?

I hAd horrific withdrawals when i stopped this (under a doctor's care) it has to be weaned much more slowly than other antidepressants. I was told it was a little hard to get off of. It was the most awful withdrawals I have ever experienced. I will never take it again. against

They started me on Venlafaxine just this morning @ 37.5 tablet. Crazy dizziness and nausea still lingering inside me for a few hours now.
They're trying this for my myalgia. They think it's possible polymyalgia rheumatica, prednisone works well, but they want to steer me away from that if possible. So we're trying this new drug. Really bad side effects right away though.

I took one of those at the advice of my ENT. In 2 hours my Vertigo was 80% gone after having The vestibular migraine for 9 months.
At 2am the next morning I woke up with a blinding headache. I took my BP and it was 196/121. Yeah off to the ER I went. If I have to decide between Vertigo and a Stroke,,,,Easy choice.

I took it for years then went on a break with doctors help for 6 months. After six months I started again. I took my first dose of 37.5 after dinner on a Thursday. Friday morning about 130am I woke up with a racing heart rate of 148 bpm with High blood pressure. Followed by panic attacks every hour. Felt better sat but Saturday night I had increased heart rate again with headaches. I will never ever touch this medication ever again! Oddly I was on this medication for almost 20 years prior without issues until I took a break and went back on again. Be careful with this medication.

I feel exactly the same. I keep having dreams that is like a story and continues the next night. Some times I don't know what is real and what is not.

First of all I'm 71, work out, walk everywhere, good blood pressure etc. My ENT prescribed Venlafaxine 37.5 mg for my Vestibular Migraine that came out of nowhere. He said take it for 2 weeks. I took one at 10am and by Noon my Vertigo was 80% gone. I thought cool.. 2am the next morning I woke up with a blinding headache, and I don't get headaches. But I did read on Web MD you might want to watch your Blood Pressure if you take this. So I decided to take my Blood pressure. 196/121. Yeah off to the Emergency room I went.
I realize different medications can work differently in different people.. Just a Heads up.
