Amazing Tall Forest Pine Trees - Model Railroad Scenery

- These are some of the best scale model pine trees I’ve made so far…
They are very easy to make however they are not exactly the fastest trees to make! One tree takes quite a while to make however the end result is just about as good as it comes when making model pine trees.
They work really well for HO scale but they can be used on just about all scales with slight modifications in size. For N scale I would use 4mm static grass for the smaller branches and some 1mm static grass to simulate the pine needles. Развлечения
Thanks Luke, what a stress relieve, been nurturing baby night and day
this one is really a soup for dad's soul
lol... enjoy the down time 😉
Watching this again for a current tree project I'm doing. I reckon it took you two hours to make the tree and ten hours to land the bottle in the airbrush cup.
8:08 - 25 minutes to make the tree, 2 weeks to get that shot.
lol... not far off!
I love how you keep working on improving your techniques, never resting on your success. Long may your success continue. Thanks for the continued inspiration. It helps people beyond simply inspiring their modelmaking and railway layouts. Merrick
oh wow thanks Merrick, really appreciate such kind words 😃 I'm making these trees for an Alaskan river scene that I'm working on, planning to have salmon swimming upstream with a grizzly bear doing some fishing, should be a full little scene 🐻 I wish you success with your channel as well, I saw you video that went viral! It was amazing! Keep up the hard work, you're doing awesome!
Luke Towan wow! That will be quite a scene! Eagerly looking forward to it!
Trains and Dioramas , oh wow! 3 of my favorite You Tubers communicating. It must be some sort of cosmic sign.
Norman I’m nowhere close to Luke and Merrick, these guys are legends! But I am really glad to be one of your favourite RUclipsr. 😎
Hey Luke, I would love to see some kind of Grand Canyon or desert looking piece if thats possible?
I'm definitely going to do a desert scene at some point. I had some plans but it probably won't be for a little while, was thinking of making a model of a desert oasis 🌵
@@BoulderCreekRailroad That would be amazing, can't wait to see it!
ooooh what about a cross-section diorama of a train tunnel like he did with the gold mine and the metro?
@@BoulderCreekRailroad Any chance you could try an urban night scene?
@Luke Towan that would be awesome! An oasis would look great!
“So I don’t stab myself” is one of my main reasons for doing most things, glad to find a kindred stabby spirit.
Seven? I found two.
Wally’s harder to find than my dad
Edit: found a third
ha ha ha... he's definitely there 😄
Me2🤣😭
Choas Biscotti ..... you are right there sir only 2 for me gonna watch it seven times .... I’ve got find them 😱
I found them all, my son and I challenged each other to find Wally and I won.
Erick Morales my wife and still on the challenge...still only six 😱
Yes, found all seven. I had to watch this tutorial several times because I was so busy finding Wally, I missed the actual tutorial. Your attention to detail is second to none...and I'm none! No seriously, another great tutorial Luke. I look forward to these. Great job, very lifelike.
Watched it about 8 times back to back until my eyes hurt 😂 but yes! Found them all! Thank you Luke Towan you are an inspiration for me as I have just started my own model railroad! (Been wanting to do this since I was 6 or 7 years old, and I’m 36 now)
Wow Luke those look great. Very Nice
Thanks Andy, yeah the definitely turned out looking quite good... I reckon they would look great on some of the military model dioramas you've been working on 😉 they are really easy to scale for the larger scale models.
Luke Towan yes I was thinking the same thing . Thank you
Hey, Luke!
I REALLY enjoyed seeing your process for pine trees!
They are the most realistic I've ever seen in my 58 years, given the relatively quick build time per tree for the results! I like to model New Hampshire "White Mtn Pines", that grow in the region of New England I grew up in. I model in N scale, so, thank you so much for the N "heads up" sizes you gave...very helpful to avoid the experimentation session. N.H. White Pines when growing together in a group, tend to lose their lower branches when mature as a result of "tufting out" the sun from their lower sections. They grow so close together, their upper branches block the sun. I've driven by cut back areas and seen up to 55 or so % missing branches from the lower portions! All you see are the stubby dead branches, just as you've modelled. On the outside of the stands, fuller trees get more sun, and look more like yours, knowing this, I will be able to save much time in the middle of any forest(s) I need, spending more time on the "perimeter trees", yet still being "correct" in the middle stands.
I was so intently learning this process, I not once saw a single "wally", except the first that doesn't count!!!
When I get more available time this evening, I'll have another look.
Thus far, I have not seen anyone outside the periodicals MRailroader, etc... Who is so open about sharing their processes publically and "free". I totally appreciate you, sir, and feel if you're not already, should be awarded a "Master Model Railroader" Award for not only your awesome results, but you're sharing of your processes. Growing up, I always dreamt of having at least one on my wall...eventually, I hope to earn one! Keep going, there are many young ones trying to perfect what you're teaching them- especially ME! 👍💖😎
yeah I think you could make these trees in N scale quite well and they would look just as good. I'd love to one day get a MMR certificate! I should look up what the requirements are and start working towards getting one 😃 Keep up the hard work, I'm sure you'll achieve one and have fun building the N scale version of these trees, they will look fantastic I'm sure!
@@BoulderCreekRailroad : you've got MY vote, brother!!
Your tree turned out very realistic! The grouping looks like a perfect stand of pines. First time watching and like others did not even think about looking for the little man.
I love your techniques. Pine Trees were a bane for me in time, as well. I used a similar technique with a fine gauge wire at the top and mixed in slightly larger gauge wires as I went down the trunk, and using mostly the larger gauge wires towards the bottom. However, I'm totally using the static grass next time. Looks SO much better from your tutorial.
A tree how to after a while! Loved it. Trees are now an obsession for me as well... it makes such a difference when you have a highly detailed tree.
lol... I know! I love making trees! They make the biggest difference to the overall scene 😃
Thanks for sharing this, Luke Towan 🕊 conifer trees 🌲 are a wonder of the world! You’ve nicely captured their ‘quirkinesses’
For some reason I didn't get the notification on this one, so the prizes have already been awarded but for me the real prize was being able to watch you use your incredible skills! Thanks for that Luke! I did find all 7 but it took 4 trips through the entire video to get them all. Fun way to spend nearly an hour watching the same video over and over and learning more each time. Merry Christmas!
I absolutely love how committed you are to improving every time! :D
Thanks Gwen, I was pretty happy with how these trees turned out 😉
Another excellent video Luke. I really like this method of pines most of all the ones that you have done previously.
Nice shot with the vallejo into the pot ;)
Well done Luke, thanks for sharing.
no worries mate, glad you enjoy the videos 😉
I love these trees! I have lots of patience and love working with small materials so I’m going to try these.
Wow, I've seen a lot of tree techniques but these trees are by far the best. Very realistic. I love that last shot with the forest and the brown, dry ground typical of pine forests. Thanks for sharing.
I didnt see that little guy at all because i was amazed how great those trees looked. I have been a modeler for 59 years but i only thought i wanted to run the trains on. But you take it to a whole nother level. Thank you for the instructions that you give on the making and coloring its so great
Awesome, thanks Mark 😉 I'm glad you are finding the tutorials helpful
Attention to detail is impeccable with mr towan hats off
Great tutorial! And real fun with the competition. I found 4 or 5 on the first few but needed to watch 2 more times to get 6. The last one was a real struggle but I finally got him! 😁
I found five....need two more...lol.....it's so fun !!!....i love the new approach for making trees !!!
⭐️ hands down the best tree tutorial I have come across - thanks for sharing your knowledge 😎 ⭐️ 👍
Outstanding work, those trees really look the part! 10 times more realistic then the store bought stuff but when you put *that* much effort into something, the results show! Time to make some trees!
I have been looking for a way to make new pines for my Georgia based AS&W layout. Thank you for making this!!
Boy am i delighted to be notified when you upload 😀
Awesome, glad you enjoy the videos 😉
Luke I hope you continue to make videos for the rest of my life. You are a gift to the hobby community. I always enjoy your videos, they are so calming and informative all at the same time. Hope to meet you one day as I’m a fellow Aussie.
WOW!!! those look incredible!
Wow....no words to describe your talent, Luke. The trees look amazing!!!
Thanks so much Mark, glad you enjoyed watching 😉
That is incredible! Thank You for sharing this!
I really love your builds and your dioramas Sir ! Looking forward to your next diorama. And I missed every Wally... but I now I have another reason to look again.
Thanks Emil, I'm planning to use these for an Alaskan river scene I've just started. The next video shouldn't be too far away 😉
A MILLENIUM FALCON!!! What did I win? :>
The tree had my full attention it seems, I even forgot about Wally! Not to mention SEE another Wally...
I saw him in the final shot when it was finished, and I was like "What's that little guy?"
I had to get up 2 hours early to go to work today. Then I saw there was a new Luke Towan video. That's a net plus... :)
Best model videos on RUclips hands down! Would be really awesome to see you do a snowy scene, snow covered trees, iced rivers and lakes etc Tackling a Christmas diorama soon and if I'm going to take anyone's advice it's yours!
How lovely to find this video ready to view with my morning coffee! Though as it iwas my first cup, I was in no condition to spot Wally - even ONCE! But that in no way detracted from my enjoyment of watching you create...........I always find your finished products amazing. There is no wonder that your videos are some of the most recommended when viewing OTHER diorama builder's channels!
Thanks, mate!
lol... yeah you don't want to be stressing out trying to find Wally too early in the morning 😉 Glad you enjoyed the video and it's good to know others are also recommending some of my videos and techniques, thanks George
Having trouble finding Wally? You'll find the answers here: www.bouldercreekrailroad.com/find-me-challenge.html 😃
I didnt see him at all! XD
Are you sure you hid him? I'm too ADHD for this challenge 😜
I see it only 1 time 😂
I was so fascinated by the modelling I forgot all about Wally!
I found him 4 times.
I had to watch it 4 times but I finally found all 7. Great video as always Luke.
Great video as per usual Luke. Thank you.
Thanks Colin, glad you enjoyed it 😉
Man, that is some serious talent and patience! Excellent technique.
Damnit I forget to look. I was to busy looking at those awesome looking tree's!
Love the trees, love the video and love the fact that I, at last, could find all seven. Great job =)
Bloody hell, they are some great looking trees! Magnificent man.
I would never have the patience to do this but if I got in an exhibition of these dioramas they would have to dart me and drag me out at the end of the day. Fascinating details.
The quality of this video is insane! You, sir, have outdone yourself on filming and editing quality! Double thumbs up! Thanks for the tutorial BTW, those trees look incredible. I'll try using that method for my tabletop RPG terrain :)
These are great looking trees you have made and a great instructional video.
For my large mountain layout, which I will need many hundreds of trees, I will have to limit the great looking trees to the foreground as I don't think i would have time to make 300 to 400 of these. Your trees are by far the best I have seen. Well done.
Philip
Wonderful as always. Thanks Luke.
No worries, glad you enjoyed watching 😃
They do look great. Thanks for sharing this latest technique on making pine trees.
Thanks John, there are heaps of pine tree tutorials on RUclips and they all have their place 😃 These take a while t make but they do look great in a bunch
@@BoulderCreekRailroad I have watched all of your tree making tutorials but I think this one is the best for pine trees. I like the fact that you use readily available materials from the hobby shop or online.
I am absolutely amazed at the dedication.
Thanks! these are the most realistic trees I ever seen.
Great video. I love this technique for trees and you took it to another level! Truly a maestro!
This video is certainly well made and the final result is just genuinely amazing. Love your videos and the effort you put into them!
thanks mate, glad you have been enjoying the videos 😉
The trees look amazing, and realistic. They look better than a lot of the little trees I've seen. Great video 👍
Stunning work as ever Luke!
Thanks Ben, glad you liked it 😉
BEAUTIFUL presentation! Great, encouraging information. Thank you.
Hello Luke! Once again a great tutorial, another interesting approach for modelling great looking trees! greets from Austria :-)
They look so real...and so beautiful...outstanding close ups!
Yeah true, these are good close up trees. For the trees that would be further in the background you could probably use some cheaper eBay trees and it will still sell the effect 😉
Fantastic work. Thank you for your tutorials. They were a great help in making pine trees for my latest E.T project. I stuffed up heaps and in no way achieved the level of skill and talent shown here.
took me 3 times to find all 7. Nice and fun way to increase the view counts xD thanks for the trick!
Awesome job on finding all 7 😉
Outstanding as usual! Like others, I didn't even see Wally the first time through!
lol... glad you enjoyed watching Steve 😉
I need about 50 of those pine tree's, they look fantastic, great work as always
lol... I've almost made 15 so far, they take ages to make but when they are all in a big bunch they look awesome!
Come one Man! You're fantastic! It looks so real. Greetings from Poland.
Another masterclass! Your uploads are always worth the wait, top quality content and really entertaining.
thanks for the compliment Martyn, glad you enjoy the videos 😉
Wow. These are beautiful
thanks mate 😉
WOW, this video completely blew my mind 🤯!!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it 😃
These look amazing Luke! Great stuff
thanks, glad you enjoyed watching 😉
This was MASTERFUL work. Also I literally only saw Wally the one very obvious time. Fun added game to the video.
These look gorgeous
Great Video Luke. What a great way to do a competition!!!
Thaks Brad, glad you liked the challenge 😉
TREEmendous job Luke, the pine trees came out looking awesome, top job 👌
Cool idea with the wheres Wally bit, I've submitted my entry 👍

Great looking trees! You really do a fantastic job of modeling things, and your production value on your videos always impress. Your efforts are much appreciated in the modeling community!

incredible!!! I you love to see you make a treehouse diorama!
Very cool - those look great!
Thanks Brandon, they certainly turned out looking quite good in the end 😃
Great looking trees !!! Thanks!!
Thanks Chris 😃
I had to watch it 5 times before i found them all. You hid those so well Luke! My son was begging me to watch it one more time so he could find it!
lol... I'm glad you had fun looking for him 😃
Your trees look amazing!!!
Beautiful!!
As ever Luke, a fantastic video and tutorial which i shal try over Xmas. The wheres wally competition made me watch it 6 times - i could make trees with my eyes shut! thank you.
Amazing! Now let’s make it covered with Snow! ❄️
Great video!
Love this guys work. Been recommending him to mates.
All the best luke.

Truely amazing Luke. Your videos are inspirational
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video 😉
Wonderful model and manual . Many thanks ! 👍😉
amazing! just did my first one for D DAY tabletop war game. thank you very much!
That was a pretty cool video, thanks for sharing
These are amazing! So much better than the cheapo store bought stuff Ive been using. Thanks for sharing your genuine skill!
Thanks Brandon, you could make a few of these and place them at the front and use the store bought ones to fill out the back of the scene 😉
