I’ve been waiting years for a tutorial like this because I’ve always felt that 5% difference makes for an amazing tree for photorealistic dioramas, so thank you so much for sharing this. Also, your channel is worthy of soooo many more views and follows (and here’s one more person subscribed!).
I agree! Little improvement can go a long way! Although I completely understand that not everyone would feel this is worth it haha Thanks for sub, I appreciate it 😊
A perfect video with no wasted time listening to useless chit-chat. As far as getting a point on the top of the dowel I use a barrel pencil sharpener that I got for $1.79 at Staples. You can get ones that take larger-diameter pencils.
Thanks for stopping by! I've been a subscriber of your channel for a while now and your projects are awesome! That castle build was absolutely unreal! Can't wait to see what other creations you make! Also Excited to see a fellow Canadian on here too! There are a few of us in the crafting video space now! We're taking over haha
I've been looking through videos on fir tree techniques for the last several days for a project and none of them came close to being as helpful and concise as this one was. Thanks for sharing your work and also great edit!
I just found a roadside Chistmas tree ! It has snow & lights. I can make a 1,000 trees for my diaramas . You would not believe what people throw out. Just take a ride through your local condo streets . I find really great stuff. I am a re-cycler re-purposer. I need a barn for all the things I find. TVs, blender, toasters, microwaves, air fryers, and much more. My wifey is not happy with all the stuff I bring home. But I can't allow the goodies to go into the landfill ! America is so wasteful. FYI I Happy New Year.
I loved this video and I’m going to use it as a reference to make some trees. And just a heads up: This channel is going to blow up with more well edited and well executed videos like this. You’re going to be a huge channel if you keep it up!
I spend a lot of time thinking about what method to follow and I think I have seen most pine trees tutorials on RUclips and this one makes it look easy while getting that realistic look. As well as putting emphasis on it being a time consuming project! I want to try this myself
Glad you like it! I've tried a dozen methods and some of them are actually pretty darn good, but I was never completely satisfied with the result. I wanted to try and squeeze a bit more realism into my trees. I also love taking my time on the details of my dioramas. In fact sometimes the tedious tasks are my favorite part of crafting haha.
I love the innovation on your wood dowel - wire armature trees! They look fantastic! Yes indeed, they are also tough and will stand the test of time as well - a true model tree. Bravo ~ Boomer.😁
This is by far one of the best model trees I've ever seen. Absolutely incredible attention to detail and consideration for robustness. Certainly added to the terrain list! Great work!
Yes, it takes a couple of hours working relaxed followed by many years of excellent satisfaction. Few endeavors have such a stellar ratio. Well done. Excellent also that you mentioned others from which you learned. Subbed.
Great job making this tree. It is a bit involved, as you said, if you want to make a bunch, but I don't think faster trees will ever look this good. Great video production quality, too.
I’m so glad some of us have found you through knarb makes! Your editing is incredible and you have sooo many useful tips!! I love that it’s all done and explained in a simple way to follow along and make with 😊 I can’t wait to see what else you have in store, and now time to go watch all your other videos haha 💕
Oh gosh thank you for the kind words! I am super grateful to knarb for sharing, as the majority of my traffic for this video was from that post! Thanks for checking it out! 😀
"Your atrocious feather duster" comment cracked me up. This was definitely entertaining and really interesting. Idk if I'll make one of these, partly for lack of tools, but I loved watching the process & seeing the spectacular results of your efforts. 😊
For drilling holes in the tree trunk, get a Micro-Mark mini chuck for cordless drills to hold the small bits. That will make that job must faster and save your wrist from hurting.
ive been modeling for over 20 years. started out in wargaming and now i build O guage train layouts i have over 50k invested in O scale trains and this is the master class of fur trees i have ever seen! this is remarkable and i am going to rip out every tree from my layout and replace the hundreds of trees with this. AMAZING!
Oh my gosh thank you for the kind words! Although I only recommend this technique for your center or "showpiece" trees because it's takes a long time and it's quite tedious haha. But if you have the patience for it, go for it! 😊
Nice. It was such a bummer that I already finished my Christmas village and installed the Christmas trees and lights, then I saw this one. I felt the urge to start all over again. Thanks for this tuts... very helpful.
wow this is awesome! i tried this today for a ww2 tank diorama- easily found the supplies around the house. I looked at many videos but yours was the best - It turned out very well! thank you for posting and laughed at the mixture of mm and inches which we tend to do all the time.
Wow! I have been searching a long time, for a tutorial that shows how to make an impressive "Hero tree." You nailed it! I wanted something that would not fall apart if it had to be cleaned a little, and an end result that would be worthy of the time spent. Thank you very much, and am looking forward to more of your works.
Excellent looking fir tree! I absolutely loved your tutorial, camera work, excellent editing and follow-through guide and explanation. I am going to defiantley use your methods. Thank you so much for sharing!
I've never made a diorama, a mini, or a tree. But I'll be damned if this isn't entertaining to watch! You've earned a sub from me, and I'm gonna hurl myself down the rabbit hole of your content and see what else I can learn!
This demonstration was amazing. Beautiful trees for villages. Thanks for sharing. I have many bottle brush trees for the holidays and these will add texture and interest.
I have made trees using a few techniques and I must say I am impressed with yours. I am definitely going to make a few using your technique. Thank you.
It's funny. I watch two of those channels regularly. I found the third just before watching your video. And, I just bought the Golden Fiber Paste today after watching Boomer Diorama! Small world. Your tree is magnificent. What a great idea to twist the wire with a drill. It's gorgeous. Probably the best that I've ever seen. Now to get an airbrush!
Looks perfect! Definitely a bit too labour intensive to make too many, but making a couple for a highlight piece is definitely worth the time. Thanks for sharing this!
This is beautiful! I am currently tasked with making scenery for my mother's nativity scene, and I think a variation on this would work to craft some cedar-y or cypress-y looking trees. Since I expect they would need to be fuller, I am thinking about using a larger diameter dowel so the holes for the branches don't break the trunk.
I just discovered your channel. Very nice! Having been a disciple of Boomer's for 2 1/2 years now, and using and adapting his tree-making techniques to create my own, I'm glad to add your method to my growing catalogue of options. Thanks. ~Brian
Well done! I like the "virtually indestructible" part. A little put off by the "if you need to make a whole forest" bit, but you could make these for the front and some others that are partially hidden behind them.

Something new! I've never twisted two-wire branches and you've really captured the look well. I was doing a set of canyon dioramas for a local park a couple of years ago, and had to settle for many $ worth of Heki "Christmas trees," trimmed to shape with scissors and sprinkled with ground foam. It was a demo of what you say about different methods when you need a forest worth of trees! I have a personal project under way now, and may just have to have a go at your method! May I ask where the suspension bridge in your intro photos is?

Hi Geordie, What a terrific tree. I am in o-gauge modeling. I am currently trying my hand at this tree. I have put shorter wires on the top, and longer ones going down the tree and then a little shorter ones on the bottom. I am waiting for the hemp to come in. On your tree ,you are cutting 1 inch of the hemp. What length do you think I would have to cut for o-gauge? My branches go from 5 in. on each side ,down to 2 in. Thank you and keep up the magnificent work. By the way my tree is 16 inches high.Too short for o-gauge?
Hi and Hello Geordie from Southern California USA 🇺🇸 . I'm a new subscriber to your channel . I Enjoyed this tree tutorial... realistic and beautiful 👍😎 Darrell
Very nice video and method of making awesome looking trees. I make the conventional (for a lack of a better term) evergreen fir type trees w/twisted wire and ground foam, however, I may give these a try for some foreground trees. Much more labor intensive, but worth the effort for a large HO Colorado type model railroad. I need about 500-600 trees (or more) so most trees will be twisted wire, but I will definitely try your awesome technique! Well done and very well explained. Now, if I could just find a way to make the twisted wire fir trees faster! Philip Jersey Shore Area
Glad someone else likes time-consuming projects like I do! Haha As for painting without an airbrush. Hmmm, maybe you could dye the hemp fibers green ahead of time and paint the trunk brown before assembling. Then give the tips/tops of the branches a dry brush in a yellow green color for highlight and new growth.
@@Geordiecrafts Oh definitely. "Where do you find the patience?" Whatdya mean? Time kind of disappears when I'm crafting. Anyway I've bookmarked your video for now. This happens. I find something cool and get excited. Then what I was working on goes "but.. what about me?" *ahem* us.... Ye, okay. But look at this. It's so awesome!
Hey, this is a very nice tutorial!!!! Just have some questions. What cements did you use for fixing the small branches and what cement did you use to fix the fibres together? Thanks a lot. Greetings
Hi there, thanks for stopping by! I didn't use any glue or adhesive for the fibers as they are just wound up in the twisted wire. The wire itself holds the fibers in place. To glue the wire to the trunk I used cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The brand I used was AK fix. It comes with a spray accelerator to make things much faster. Hope that helps!
I'm upset that I watched this. It looks SOO good. But either I won't make one (Likely what I'll do) Or I'll try to make a bunch for a forest diorama. Thank you and curse you and also bless you and your level of patience.

Fantastic looking trees, love it. Thank you for sharing
Genius! What a beautiful tree!
I found it helpful AND entertaining. Very well done!
thanks so much! ☺️
Gorgeous tree, I can’t wait to try this! Beautiful job on the video too.⭐️🤩
Amazing job, and so much patients to do . Thanks for the tip.
Fantastic, thanks for sharing
Hey,
this is a very nice tutorial!!!!
Well done, excellent results.
I would imagine doing 5 trees at a time would help with the overall avg time spent on each tree
Amazing work as always!!!
Incredible tree and incredible video!
I'm upset that I watched this. It looks SOO good. But either I won't make one (Likely what I'll do) Or I'll try to make a bunch for a forest diorama. Thank you and curse you and also bless you and your level of patience.
Hahaha you're welcome and sorry 😂
@@GeordiecraftsI'm making a diorama in the woods for a couple little indians I have to live in. I'm going to attempt to make at least three of these to put in there. Thank you so much for sharing this. They look absolutely fantastic.
