    THANK YOU SO MUCH
    I've been going hobby store to hobby store for hours trying to find realistic trees for my sets and they all, honestly, look awful to me. I adore detail and the little plastic trunks just didn't do it for me. This is extremely helpful and I can't wait to use this technique.

    Luke, Great tutorial. Really impressed with the close up of the trunk...realistic. I'm curious. Why not just scrape the dowel and apply the fiber material directly to the dowel? I'm new to model railroading at a retired age of 63 and just starting my layout so if I'm missing something all you other guys know please excuse my ignorance.

    • @BoulderCreekRailroad
      @BoulderCreekRailroad  8 лет назад +1

      +Larry D Mitchell Hi Larry, It's very possible to do what you are suggesting, I figure that I'm covering the top half with foliage so I try not to spend too much time on that area. If you were going to model a sparsely covered tree then I think modeling the trunk all the way through using the balsa dowel would be the best thing.
      Thanks for the feedback and it's a good question, a few people have asked the same thing :)
      Cheers

      You can take dead dry grass and crumble it and make your grass by spray painting and turning it with and while spraying it or use sand and spray paint it . I take limbs that are broken from deer berry bushes and use cedar limbs to make a model towns historical tree . Just do it to it you’ll be amazed at yourself 👍🏻

    The easiest way to make a model tree is to use real twigs. It's al about skill to choose and snip the right ones according to the shapes and scale needed. Later you can add artificial stuff...
    Real twigs last for decades. You can varnish them (the bark gets shiny and looks artificial) or just replace them with new ones as years go by... Any city garden provides you with most things you need, for free. Look around and follow the patterns of nature.

    What would you say would be the most colors used of turf, grass ect, for most of your projects? Like if you were going to choose four or five of the most versatile things that could be used with many projects. I can see the price skyrocketing very quickly if a person was to go on one or two of these different websites of the products that you use, and ordered everything just to have everything on hand. Lol

    The best way to make good pine trees is to buy them ready made from BUSCH and doctor them up with scissors and scenic ground foam. Busch prices are quite reasonable. This process will produce pine trees that truly look like the real thing in every way. What is produced in this video is a decent approximation to nature. But you can do better with less work and minimal cost.

    Maybe it's cause I'm Alaskan and not Australian but I grew up in, under, and around pine trees and these, while being great model trees are nothing like the run of the mill pine trees back in Alaska. I should set some time aside to see if I can make one better instead of just being a naysayer or complaining. I just wish someone somewhere and somehow could actually pick the wilderness that I grew up in deep in the Alaska interior. I would love to be able to use your other methods for creating a scene that only people from there can appreciate an understand. But that leaves us to the problem. Me following a guy for tutorials on how to create the things that I need yet needing to, myself, put more energy in to finding a solution of the problem. Keep making sir. I enjoy every moment of it. I'm just saying that's not a pine tree. ;)

    Why not just use the balsa for the whole tree instead of combining the balsa and skewer?

      Thanks Bruce, that's a shame about Woodland Scenics, hopefully you can find an alternative to use if you try to make some of the scenery.
