Elizabeth Gramm I watched Bob Ross videos every night for over a month for that same reason.... then I started painting because of the videos. But yes, listening to Bob Ross talk and watching him create was quite soothing to my anxiety. And now I have this as well.
Yes indeed. I just did a cutout in my Styrofoam board for a lazy creek or small river. Will (try!) to get Luke's results as I've never done any scenery before. Studying real scenery and watching these MRR channels are a great way to overcome lack of imagination.
These videos are very relaxing to watch! You have an almost bob ross feel to your videos haha. But I just wanted to say it is crazy the amount of work you put into these, and it definitely shows in your video quality! I especially enjoy the little things like the creative places you will put the list of materials you were currently using! Keep up the fantastic work! P.S. a series on a large project like a train display would be amazing!
thanks so much for the fantastic comment 😀 I'm in the process of building a larger model train layout, I'm still working on the track layout but I'll definitely do videos on it once I start doing some proper work on the layout.
I don't even make dioramas, but I oddly feel compelled to every time I watch this. I find it calming, and like to watch these videos before I go to sleep. 10/10 very satisfying
You truly are the Bob Ross of landscape... watching this was like watching one of his episodes. Amazingly detailed work, I'd call that a master level diorama.
This is such an excellent video displaying so many useful techniques and with such a high production value. As a miniature painter myself, I will definitely be sharing this with my mini community and also employing some of these techniques on my next display base.
I have never in my life made a diorama but I love your videos. There is something so soothing about how clean and precise you are. I'm always amazed at how real this all looks.
I'm an illustrator, and I find your attention to detail, patience and very thorough explanations very enjoyable and inspiring. I always look forward to your videos, and this one was, as usual, a real treat. Wonderful work, thank you.
I thought the exact same thing. Bob Ross but working in all 3 dimensions. And also Australian. It probably doesn’t matter if you care about model railroads or modeling of any kind. Who doesn’t enjoy watching a world being created.
RUclips NEVER get their recommendations right. My curiosity got the better of me with this video. Next thing i knew its 27 minutes later. I was transfixed from the start and utterly mesmerized throughout. Fantastic stuff.
Luke Towan I just love how realistic you make a scene its beautiful to watch. True talent like this should be what trends on the front page of youtube not them bloody fidget spinners lol
I can't stress enough how much I admire Luke. I have been interested in making dioramas my whole life. Now that I found Luke I know how to make them and the materials and equipment I need. You are the best.
The best part about all these tutorials is that living in Adelaide I have access to all these great products ! No more shopping online for me. Great stuff !
That grass tuft thing BLEW MY MIND...i never knew that was possible without PAINFUL hand insertion into putty...but the final product had my jaw dropped!
Ok it is Thursday morning I should be in the gym working out , I just can not stop watching Luke make a diorama. I do Terrariums and small miniature rooms and I can incorporate some of his details in my projects. I do not want to leave this video I need to get going. The soft music and his voice is very relaxing unlike some others I have watched. Thank you Luke
I've just made an 8 foot long river section for wargaming. First thing i've ever done using resin and it was a heck of a learning curve... and I only found you after I have reached the finish line basically! :D These videos are amazingly well put together, thank you for the clear and concise instructions.
Luke, you are truly a modelling Jedi and the force is strong with you. I've watched this video about 37 times now, and all your others of course, and have been applying the techniques on my own build - first time doing a river scene. Just wanted to say thank you for putting this together. Really love your work and the way you put your videos together. So clear and easy to follow. Will get on over to Patreon soon. Will send you a photo of my finished project, would appreciate your feedback. Thanks again mate!
Love your videos. The work is really professional. I've already learned very much considering no more tutorials than the ones that I have seen. Thanks again for Sharing with us.
If I had one of these in my house I'd apend hours poring over it. The details are excruciatingly good. Makes me want to miniaturize myself and walk right into the scene! Sincere thanks for posting these videos.
lol thanks mate 😀 I was pretty surprised when they asked if they could post it to their page! Of course I was happy to let them spread the message and it looks like they have done a fantastic job!
I really enjoy watching these videos, even though I’ve never done this sort of thing. It’s really interesting to see all the techniques to make realistic water, but the most amazing part for me is when the rocks and landscape are painted. Just how a blank white surface gets turned into such detailed rock faces astounds me!
Man, everything on this channel is so cool! I usually paint and draw but have wanted to dabble in something 3D that wasn't just glued together painted planks. I had no idea what I wanted to try but you make realistic scenic models look so much easier than I would have thought. While I know it takes a lot of work and planning, I think I now have some projects to strive for!
wow thanks for such a fantastic comment! I'm glad I've been able to give you a bit of inspiration and I wish you heaps of luck when you start building your own 3D scenes! It's very rewarding when you finish and have a great looking model 😉
I've spent the last three days all over the internet for materials and inspiration for what I might want to make, the idea is exciting and has me pumped! Thanks for the comment back, I'll definitely be absorbing your content for the months to come :)
I dont comment often, but I have to say you are like the Bob Ross of dioramas, every so often you do something, and I think "Aww Fuck, He ruined it." then it still turns out great.
TIP: I've sometimes used a guy with a fishing pole in my dioramas. However, from an HO scale perspective the fishing line in this case would be just about invisible. For this I tried using the finest human hair I could possibly find (which looked more convincing), but even then I wasn't satisfied. In the end I decided to leave it off entirely. That is absolutely stunning. When i first came across the clip i actually thought it was a real image before reading the title as a diorama. Really appreciate the work done. Many thanks from Scotland.
You make this look so easy. If I tried this, my hands would be all sticky, all the materials would be mixed together and I would end up throwing it in the garbage.
Whenever I'm 40 with kids I'll probably do this to completely remake the entirety of the maps in my favourite video games, assuming my favourites remain the same which is quite unlikely.
can't wait. Inspired me to get on with the train and Thunder Jet layout, only been waiting to start for about 40 years, now have a large workshop for our cars and there's enough room to make a 3 x 13 layout... will keep you posted. Cheers bud.
Same here, watched a few vids of a guy who restores hot wheels cars then found this. Luke you are amazing ! I have now binge watched about 20 videos (when i get the chance) in just a few days and have decided (via your help that you always give on products) to go buy enough stuff for my first SMALL trial of a pond with fisherman, maybe 12' X 12" thank yoso much for what you do and recording it, so peaceful and relaxing to watch.
Have you thought of having your dioramas connect together to form a larger layout? Maybe do another diorama that connects to this one. It can have a waterfall, or a hydropower dam, or anything else associated with rivers.
The dioramas don't join together however I'll be filming a waterfall diorama soon and I really like your idea of having it connect to this one. Thanks so much for the great tip! 😀
I was looking for a tutorial on how to make water for my slot car track scenery. When I saw the length of this video, 27 minutes, I told myself nah I'll skip right to the water tutorial part. I ended up watching the whole 27 minutes of the video! Wow it was very interesting watching this guy works, so many steps, so many details, for a wonderful result.
Amazing work. I haven't done any plastic model building for years. I have been recently finding more free time and considering a return to it. I think this video has inspired to take the leap. Thank you!
Hi Luke, This is a great video and your river technique, I wish to employ in my viaduct (video to follow). My question is, having painted the river bed onto a plywood base, can I apply the Envirotex Lite, straight onto the acrylic paint. I’m worried that it could lift etc. Regards Charlie
Just used enviortec on my first ever river diorama on a foam core base with no additional sealer, then painted with light coats of acrylic and some sponged accent colors. Not a single bubble......Not sure acrylic paint would adequately seal the wood. Mix a small amount of enviortec and apply it to a small area to see. This diorama that you were making is about nature. And I say that this masterpiece is beautiful and amazing! I guess you created this diorama with great creativity and patience. Comment by: Prince Orillosa From the Philippines I wish you like my comment
This is the first diorama video out of about 13 I've watched that I cared to comment about. Nice work, great tips and beautiful execution. Learned a few things along the way, thank you for sharing.
Far out..... This is amazing! As a girl slightly obsessed with baking and nail art videos on RUclips, I am surprised at how much I loved this!! Off to watch more.... #newobsession
I have said it before, Luke is the best Diorama builder going, hands down.
wow thanks for the amazing compliment Kris 😀
Your welcome, love your work !!
Costanza is right, you are the Best!
Absolutely !!!
Kris Waters I couldn't have said it better myself.
I don't even do any modelling, but I still watch these because they're amazing.

I like to watch these when my anxiety is really bad. Theyre just so calming and theres so much detail to focus on.
I use these videos to ease my anxiety and migraine pain also
After i killed my first victim i also came here to relax...
I like to watch these videos whilst I eat a baby

If you find it calming to watch i highly recommend trying it for yourself as it helps me to force out my daily stress and anxiety!
Possibly the best tutorials I have ever seen. Camera work, narration, skill and overall artistry is beyond this world. Thank you for making these.
Thank you, glad you appreciate these. It is hard work and enjoyable.

What is „TV“? Is that something like RUclips, but for old people?
@@willburke5384 I was thinking the same thing.
@Austin Ho How would that be different than a Patreon-fueled RUclips channel, exactly? I personally much prefer this to old fashioned tube.
