- Beating the hardest boss in the entire game is no small feat. This is one hell of a battle that depends more on luck than on preparation.
As well as using the ATB gauge mechanics against Ozma!
Once Ozma goes down without casting Meteor, we receive the Pumice accessory, which teaches Dagger her most powerful eidolon, Ark.
We used a team of Zidane to steal, Freya to use a fully powered Dragon's Crest, Dagger to heal, and Steiner to use Shock.
Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

It´s a totally new boss to me, I´ve never encountered it. However, I did beat all the Weapons in FF7 and 8, Ruby probably being the hardest one...

My very first and unforgettable Ozma encounter was when I was battling it for over 30 minutes (I think), and then when my hopes were finally crushed since it knocked my whole party out, Eiko's Phoenix summon triggered (which was my first time ever seeing it at the time), dealing the final blow and reviving the whole party. Man, that was an intense feeling! :')
FFIX still a great game, I was a moderator 15 years ago on a forum and knew everything about the game. Good times.
The earth ending attack is always cool lol. I vote for FF9 remake. It’s time
It’s perfect as it is. If anything, a general remaster/polishing on the graphics would improve it IMO
I'm open to having a full, action heavy remake of FF9. The classic is great, especially in its remastered form. They could still make an amazing, slightly different title from it.
I'm against FF9 remake if they change the combat system.
IMO they will end up remake FF1 6 8 9 and 10 and I'm super hyped for those titles especially the 9 but I agree on they MUST NOT change the combat system ! Even the slow start fight has its charm

Sometimes you get lucky. I use Freya and Vivi, and Amarant. I used double Doomsday with Vivi on a trance, Ozma used it, then Amarant used it on return magic. That rarely happens though lol

Wow! Nostalgia. Though some eidolons summons don't do damage beyond 9999. But the entrances are cool. Still Odin is my favorite bad ass summon though random.

I've always subbed in Quina, who can use Mighty Guard and Frog Drop which can be powered up to deal 9999 damage, and Eiko, whose Phoenix has a 12.5% chance of resurrecting the entire party if they die.
And s/he has a abillty that gives You some MP
How do you keep track of how many dragons you've killed? Freya's part of my A-team, but this is the first time I hear about level up her Dragon's Crest attack.
Check the damage she deals with Dragon Crest. It should raise in line with the amount of dragons you have killed. When it always deals 9999, you are done.
Basically every dragon raises it by 100 points of damage.
You can kill 2 birds with one stone by killing Grand Dragons with Quina's Lvl 5 Death ability and get tons of EXP for your party at the same time.

Telosking333 Zidane's Thievery isn't a nightmare at all. If you steal from every enemy from every encounter and steal all bosses' items, you should be fine - When I first get it from synthing Angel Bless, I'm usually hitting 5500+ damage, by the end of the game I'm doing 8k+ damage and that's more than enough. Plus, if you really like level grinding off of Grand Dragons, you can steal from them while you grind to build it up too.
Freya's is faster to keep track of + if you don't wanna kill Grand Dragons, you can kill Serpions & Ironites near Chocobo Forest. I usually have a NotePad open to keep track of where I'm at and it usually takes me about somewhere around 2hr+ to get to 100 Dragons.

+Missildine Online! For Ruby, theres an item that paralyzes him, I beat him so easily with that item, forgot what its called.
ILikeFoxes There's definitely some cheese methods of killing them! I've killed them before with various tactics, but I want to beat them straight up one day haha
Theres an item you steal from the monsters near the area before aeris dies call dazers makes the fight real easy. Emerald u need mime/counter/knights of the round

Curious tactics. Zidane, Vivi (with Return Magic), Quina and Steiner/Freya are more than a match for Ozma. Thievery-9,999, Doomsday-9,999 (plus heals your party with proper setup), Frog Drop-9,999, Shock/Dragon Crest-9,999. If Ozma is stupid enough to use Doomsday early on, 9,999x2 thanks to Return Magic = dead Ozma.

Fan theory: ozma is arks conscious power. It's why the ark you face is malfunctioning. It got split during the planets shift.

I remember as a kid first winning this fight with Zidane, Eiko, Vivi and Amaranth, and no reflect + reflect-null. Thank god for that small chance of Phoenix revival lol
When I beat Ozma I remember using Eiko over Dagger because of her Auto-Phoenix ability. If all your party ever get wiped out while she's in it, Phoenix has a chance of being Auto-Summoned to resurrect your entire party

Wow, that did not look too bad, so I gave it a try and beat Ozma. Recieved a Pumice and a Dark Matter with Main Caracter plus Dagger, Freya and Quina. He only had time to cast one Curaga, maybe cause main caracter was in Trance and got 2 Grand Lethal in.
I just did the 9999 party trick, magic hammer for quina and demons mail and ninja gear for equipment
Nice Video =D Fun Fact: In the german version, Arks attack is called "Apocalypse", which I think is actually quite fitting, seeing that this attack doesn't look that dark at all xD'
Also the first Transformer Summon, and it should have stayed the only one =/ what followed wasn't even partly as awesome as this!

The first time I beat Ozma, I had Steiner, Vivi, Garnet, and Zidane. I set them all up to absorb or guard from shadow, and just spammed Doomsday with Steiner and Vivi, had Garnet using Ethers and healing when necessary while throwing in the occasional summon, and used Zidane's Theivery skill (I think that's what it's called. It does damage based on number of items stolen I believe)... Was a pretty quick fight if I remember.
Same, it's been too long to remember exactly how but I remember I just got stupid lucky and managed to wipe him out pretty quick without even fully realizing what I was doing
I used Zidane, Dagger, Vivi and Eiko. I used the same type of equipment. I alternated between Dagger and Eiko for Summoner/Healer/Support Roles. I used Vivi's Doomsday to attack Ozma and healing the party since they absorb dark damage (Ozma's Doomsday helped too so Dagger and Eiko can focus less on healing and more on Summoning). I used Zidane to steal all 4 items (because I'm a JRPG item hoarder lol).

I remember fighting this guy as a kid and I didn’t know his attack pattern changed depending on your equipment and abilities, nor that his ATB gauge filled the moment you entered a command.
So I fought him with Zidane, Eiko, Vivi and Amarant. But not everyone could absorb Doomsday so I just made Amarant use Trance-Auto Life and I was saved from a Game Over by Eiko’s Phoenix showing up thanks to having 99 Phoenix Pinions and one equipped. A rare but handy trick.
What 99 phoenix pinions +1 equip does?
willian zorzi If Eiko has a Phoenix Pinion equipped, the more you have in your inventory, the higher chance there is that the Phoenix summon will appear and revive you if your party members all die.

I used Quina's magic hammer to remove Ozma's mp. Then it was a breeze!
Yea I believe he can still curse. But quina also gets angel snack which uses remedy on the whole party.

Died every 2nd to 3rd turn, and was immediately revived by Phoenix. It was only during this fight that it happened, team dies...Phoenix..team dies again...Phoenix...etc. Never understood why.
Can you tell me sir why he is not meteor? I got no chance when hes doing meteor + curse but without those hes done...
ozmas AI is set up so that he doesn't use spells that your entire party is immune to.
this is why garnet doesn't have auto reflect in the video, the more spells you have immunity against, the more likely ozma is to use ones you don't, making him more likely to use meteor and curse, which can not be resisted, absorbed or reflected.
I usually had Eiko instead of Garnet in the off chance that if I wipe, Phoenix would save my ass which he did on some occasions.....

i used on tough battles only. if the characters have regen on them, they are healing throughout all the animation

Obtaining ark and watching the animation was the win of the game . You defeated the hardest boss in the game so what do you want ? You cast it and enjoy the graphics (back in the days ) knowing that nothing stands a chance against you 😀
I feel that FF9 was a game that rivaled how good FF7 was that most people missed.
Personally like it the most out of any FF!
Quina is better than Steiner since a max Frog Drop is unaffected by Mini

Nice. I much prefer Ozma than FF8's Omega weapon. Ozma gives you a decent challenge and actually make you go into careful preparation. While Omega...I just mashed skip and summon long ass animation GF (eden) before getting Selphie's ultimate skill and gets sad if I skipped the one I waited for. Much frustrafion. This battle is much more enjoyable than FF8 optional boss. But I still love FF7's Ruby and Emerald weapon. Im still proud because I beat it when I was still a kid where internet sucks back then and can only rely on your child brain.

Finally beat that jerk, once you finish the friendly monsters quest and get your party lvl 60 (Djidane lvl 70) with tin armor, Kweena angel's snack and lapitas there's really not much harm he can do to you anymore.
I was even surprised how easy that got and the gap between a lvl 55 party / lvl 61 party was huge
I really wish other games would have bosses like Ozma where their actions vary depending your setup to give it more of a challenge.
Breath of the Wild is a great example of this.

I used shock, thevery then dragon's crest for the curse i just use quina's angels snack :)

Angel snack does not need to be used for this fight....just use stat def skills and use the skills that dont need stats to do damage...so you can use mini as a turn waster for ozma so he doesnt meteor you to death. and ignore anything curse does cus most of the bad ones are able to be immunitized by skills.
Oh and that card game, fantastic. We made it to play upgrade all cards to A level (if I am right, first X level and then A level). My girlfriend also played this game to bits in the past.

Basically a friend came over,i showed him that boss was a cancer (well,iirc i had highly underleveled pg,around lv40-50),after like 30 minutes of fighting he had to go back home,paused and then i went back to fight and...Cool,did it after losing 10 times before that day because everytime he wiped me with a single or 2 spells lol

For players early in the game, once you get quina you can go to a beach somewhere and fight a certain enemy that you can use the “eat” ability to get LV5 death ability, in gizamalukes grotto you can climb a ladder to an area with extremely powerful enemies, you cannot beat them at this stage except with the LV5 death ability on quina, if you want over powered characters early on at least 👍🏻
Quina's Frog Drop can also do 9999. I didn't know Dragon Crest did, though! I'm going to try it, ty

I defeated Ozma with the same party except I have QUINA instead of DAGGER... At that point I already acquired 100 frogs from Qu Marshes which raises Quina's FROG DROP damage... Also Quina has the Angel Snack ability that is very useful after Ozma casts Curse... Also at that point in my game Zidane already had stolen enough to raise my Thievery damage to maximum... I don't need him to steal anything from Ozma... Except maybe the Pumice Piece which can come in handy...
And in this Final Fantasy, the optional superboss is a ball.
Its alongside a man sticking his tongue out (Quale)

and a man who sits in water inside a tiny crack (Hades)
And then Itself
Challenge order (1st to 4th) (1st easiest-4th hardest) (My opinion)
1st- The Book (Difficulty 4/10)
2nd- Hades (Difficulty 7/10)
3rd- Quale (Difficulty 8/10)
4th- Ozma (Difficulty 10/10)

@@klee6878 When i played this, i found Ozma overrated as fuck, & beat him many different ways in a row. Just to see if i was just lucky. Hades on the other hand managed to murder me about 3 times somehow 🤨. I remember the last bosses being surprisingly hard, even though i had all the ultimate items etc.
The fight with Ozma is luck based. 'Nuff said.

to kill ozma I'd just use reflect rings and auto regen and summon ark whenever my health go low and by the time the video is over everyone would be at full health.
Edit: I'd recommend a different setup:
Take Quina for Angel Snack to counter Curse so you don't waste multiple turns curing it, and she can do max damage with Frog Drop.
Vivi and Amarant are by far the best damage characters for this fight because they have Return Magic - wait for Ozma to cast Doomsday, then enter your commands. They will both counter with a version of Doomsday that uses Ozma's stats rather than their own, which is much more powerful for an easy 19,998 damage, and Ozma only has 55,535 HP, so these Return Magic, plus the commands entered for your turns, easily end the battle in a single turn assuming everyone can do 9999 damage, which isn't difficult to accomplish since Zidane and Quina do fixed 9999 damage with Thievery and Frog Drop, Vivi has Double Black, and Amarant has Bird Killer since Ozma is aerial.
Ninja Gear absorbs shadow element, and Zidane and Amarant can and should equip it as their best armor in the game, so give Pumice Pieces to Vivi and Quina.
Everyone should have Auto-Reflect to take care of Holy, and simply don't be a level divisible by 4 to avoid LV4 Holy, so holy resist equipment doesn't do much, and don't be a level divisible by 5 for LV5 Death.
Everyone should have Auto-Life to mitigate the chances of getting cheesed by Meteor, but there's not much you can do if RNG just decides to screw you.
I didnt find it too terrible 5 years ago. I like your set up though - would probably do something similar myself nowadays.

Eïko + Bibi + Tarask ( some launch within ) + Steiner well weaponed = no OzmaVersus !
Dagger is the most usefull.
But we love Dagga since nothing of this beautifull story would be possible wihtout her !
My lineup for this is Zidane, Garnet, Eiko and Amarant.
Zidane must have 9999 damage of Thievery and I use Orichalcon instead of Ultima Weapon as it raised Zidane Speed,
Garnet is my healer and will do only healing.
Eiko is my other attacker with Holy so all of her equipment must have increase damage with Holy. If she is trance, she can cast Holy twice in one turn.
Amarant is my second support casting Aura or Chakra. If he's on trace, he can cast Aura or Chakra to all parties on one turn.
How if i lose GF card, can i get it back?

doesn't really matter, ozma can very easily snuff out a level 99 party before you can do anything, you just got lucky.

This game went so hard.
ikr, as 1st it was so easy, especially when "the ogre" is able to be syth, Then you get all 8 members and Go to Kuja and DAMN it's now super harsh on you. When you find Ark, it heads South. Followed by the Desert Palace Defender, then the Jesters Combined, It really turns who has the upper hand. Towards the very end (Memoria) you find all these sacred treasures and it go back to even. (if you trained hard enough)
When I beat Ozma I faced him with Amarant, Quina, and Freya. I'll have to try it with Vivi, Eiko, and Garnet next

Eiko have only Holy spells, this will heal up ozma
And garnet need Ark to do some damage, if you dont synth pumice yet she will only stand and heal/dying..
Basically you will do dmg with zidane Only
I picked Quina over Steiner because Angel’s Snack/Frog Drop and Eiko over Dagger because she’s the better healer

I Always KNEW Ozma Was LUCK-BASED And That There's Ways To Improve Your Odds. XD I Remember When "I" Fought Ozma I Had Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, And Eiko! Eiko Because Of Final Phoenix And With 99 Phoenix Pinions That's ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD! I Also Had "Auto-Reflect" And "Reflec-Null"(This One On Both Dagger AND Eiko) And With THAT, His MINI And BERSERK-COUNTERS Did Nothing!

After defeating OZMA, go and fight HADES (For the first time) And he'll have a different dialogue.
I actually show that on the Hades fight! :D (He basically just says he can't believe you beat Ozma)
I remember i had 2 save files then way back in 2001. One was I beat HADES first because i practically gave up on OZMA. Then I decided to change up my party lineup which changed everything
Zidane, Freya, Quina and Garnet.
Garnet for the healing and such
Zidane just kept on using thievery
Freya kept using Dragon Crest
And Quina kept on using this hammer thing, forgot the name which would drain OZMA's MP rendering him practically standing there.
Most of my equipment as far as i can remember was more on either Holy/Shadow Absorb with Auto reflect, and i focused more on Magic Evade.
A lot of spells Ozma casted on me missed or got reflected back (except the ones that cant be reflected)
Last i checked you cant fight hades without beating Ozma...

Strange...I recall he never answered you unless you beat ozma...and he even mentions you beat ozma when the fight starts...never seen anyone fight him without beating ozma first....

Auto-Regen is not pronounced like the 40th President of the United States.
It's short for Auto-Regenerate. Thus, it should be pronounced Ah-toe-Ree-jehn.

I prefer Vivi + Eiko on the team instead of Dagger + Freya and get them both close to trance. You can end the fight in 2 turns with double holy + double whatever black magic will hit hardest (probably flare?) shock and whatever Zidane can do. It's an easy fight if you're prepared.
There's a ton of "cheese" strats for Ozma

What do you mean you don't know ark. He is the most common summon plus he was suppose to be the one you fought when you got the first pumice piece. The building that kuja refuses to go to because he can't use magic.

Ya know - I don't think so! It's speculated that it's a lost Eidolon - something someone summoned a long time ago and couldn't control. The friendly monsters act as it's "gate keepers". At least thats the story I've always heard!
