I have the same obsession, In FF7 I would grind Cloud and Barrett to lvl 20 in the first reactor, and steal 99 Ethers from the enemies in the train graveyard to sell and be rich early on.
There are much more efficient ways to grind. In disc one, get the enemy skill materia, learn the Beta skill from the midgar zolom, go to Junon, in the middle between the two streets where there are guards doing drills, there is a switch on the wall that activates a siren and turns on random encounters in that area. The random encounters spawn enemies you normally wouldn’t fight until disc 2. They give a ton of exp, ap, and gil, and you can one shot them with Beta. You will go from level 20 to level 50 in around an hour. No need to grind anywhere before or after this unless you want to become all powerful like this guy. Grinding in the first reactor is really odd though, like it’s just super inefficient, not just for characters but for Materia especially.

FF8 is also one of my favorite FF games... but ff9 perfected the formula of, character stories... the actual ART Design was amazing.. and the grind felt rewarding enough to keep pushing on.
I did a No Level-Up run of FF8 once upon a time, using Seifer and Edea to level up GFs. Once the 4 stat bonuses were learned, I grinded everyone using Mad Rush on Hell Island. Doing that allowed for min-maxing junctions and creating virtually immortal characters. They took little physical damage and absorbed everything. It was fun for a one-off.
@@Primalliquid92 well it's a fun exercise if you need some more video ideas. I like to see how strong I can get in games I play and get all the best equipment. Some games aren't fair in that way too.
Worth mentioning that only Eiko really care about stats in that set-up since Zidane, Freya and Quina have fixed damage spells that factor in their stats, so this is more for fluff than anything else. Still fun though.
A very interesting spin-off idea and one that I'd love to see more of. I do think it was a little weird though to make this kind of video in a game where it make little-to-no difference how much work you put into stat maxing, seeing the "Absolute Most Overpowered You Can Get" in 6, 7, 8 or 10 would have been a lot more interesting as they let you increase your stats a whole lot more and it makes a far more noticeable difference.
the reason i chose 9 to do first is because the vast majority of people over emphasize doing a level 1 run to stat max instead of just playing as you want, basically actually showing how insignificant the gains really are
Tried the overpowered stats path in the original version on an emulator. Found out that save the queen is the best stat growing gear, despite being locked out only for Beatrix's hands. Found a code to disable weapon restrictions and make them able to be equipped by anyone and snatched the save the queen. Its literally the best weapon in the game. It increases all stats that grow by lv up (+5 to spirit and +2 to all others) and despite showing only 23atk, the thing has a hidden effect that increases damage based on user's current lv, meaning that around lv60 an onwards, it will be the strongest weapon in terms of basic attack damage output.
I had a normal playthrough recently, grinding every now and then to have my characters learn all the abilities, and ending up with every character in the low 70s, and that was more than enough to pretty much demolish every single enemy in the game no problem besides ozma, which is the only fight in disk 4 that took me any kind of effort
i actually work on them at the same time, so instead of putting all my effort into 1 ill be working on 2-3 videos at once, for example monday i could focus all day on the 10-2 OP video and then tuesday i could do all day on FF9 for example, keeps things from getting tedious
My gripe with most guide out there tends to ignore speed, but with Zidane, speed is really important for Thievery's damage, and I do see a noticeable impact of speed especially with haste (in one run, I focused everyone on magic or strength after spirit, except Zidane whom I focused on speed after spirit), and he was getting 1.5x turn compared to others, but I think this is mainly because I play on Wait instead of Active battle mode, and use menu to pause the game during lengthy summon animations. For Freya and Quina, I do tend to focus on magic, as that gives them more MP.
Speed becomes less important if you successfully steal enough times, since the formula for Thievery is (successful steals * Speed)/2. You can max out Thievery without an optimal Speed stat easily, especially if you steal from everything while normally playing through to Disc 4.
Primal, of all the games you have played which was the worst to grind for the OP series? *edit* meant to say and forgot, your videos are a part of the reason I'm still coping during this shitty shitty lockdown. Thank you so much man
@@Primalliquid92 oof. I've only ever given grandia a surface play really, never gave it much time. One challenge idea... Ff9 100%? 😂 for extra squeakiness do it on original PAL version Incidentally I've been trying to do a 100% run for about 4 years, so I'm not really serious about it, I'm convinced it's nearly impossible.
X was the first FF game where I handed off the controller because I was literally bored by the game. Let my girlfriend at the time go through the storyline while I watched and did some grinding / blitzball while she slept.
All characters except Amarant can basically deal 9999+ damage by reflecting spells, collecting items, killing certain enemies, or stealing enough. Steiner has Shock too.
I literally forget about Amarant's existence until you mentioned him and didn't even notice him on the side of the screen. As far as games with less than ten party members go, he might be the most forgettable party member out of any semi-major JRPG that I've ever played.
he has some good uses, but they're mainly for challenge runs imo. sure somebody on there first playthrough might use him but outside of that hes outshined by the others
If you've ever seen Final Fantasy 9 In A Nutshell by Rabtoons, Amarant isn't even mentioned in the entire thing. And Rabtoons has a running joke about "outcast" characters that no one uses--Amarant doesn't even qualify for *that*.
Very interesting, wasn't aware @ Marcus as I always killed him near the cages for a little Steiner training so he isn't so far behind when you reunite. Generally I'll finish the game with Zidane, Steiner, Freya and Eiko but I always end up super OP!
Ever since first reading the guide you mentioned, I was chafed by how late Eiko and especially Amarant join. Since they don't join until late-ish Disc 2/Disc 3 respectively, you're liable to have an APL (average party level) over 20, and they've missed out on a lot as a result. Or at least appeared to, in my mind. Seeing the argument that it fails to matter actually puts my mind at ease a bit.
yea Stat maxing is nice for the spirit boost, but honestly thats about it. this is why in my 100% run (and albiet when ever i play this game) i never bother staying level 1 to min max
Oof. WTH?! Marcus is already Lv 70 on my Steam game... Ooops... But thank you. Those last 20 levels take FOREVER and I'm doing them manually with no scripts or turbo controller or whatnot. You set me free!
Zidane, Freya, Eiko and Quina has always been my favourite party despite them making no story sense together (unlike Zidane/Garnet/Steiner/Vivi that lots of people prefer). Just decided I like those characters, but I always love how often they get recommended as a combo for lvl 1 games, beating Ozma easiest, etc.
If I got it correctly, that Eiko you showed was the Eiko with all the trasnferred stats from lvl 99 Marcus, then how come it had some stats even lower than your regular 1-99 leveling Eiko?
The fact that FF9 doesn't completely break wide open if you stat max at Level 1 versus grind your way to Level 99 (nor does it troll you, or reward you any differently, for said grinding) is a testament to how well balanced this game is compared to FF7 and FF8.

I am shocked how fast this came out after the last one. You amaze me with the dedication it must take to do these.
i actually work on them at the same time, so instead of putting all my effort into 1 ill be working on 2-3 videos at once, for example monday i could focus all day on the 10-2 OP video and then tuesday i could do all day on FF9 for example, keeps things from getting tedious
Loving the overpowered series mate.
glad you like it :)
Had no idea the amount of of overpowered you could get in this game, truly incredible.
Primal, of all the games you have played which was the worst to grind for the OP series?
*edit* meant to say and forgot, your videos are a part of the reason I'm still coping during this shitty shitty lockdown. Thank you so much man
probably grandia which took close to 700 hours to make
@@Primalliquid92 oof. I've only ever given grandia a surface play really, never gave it much time. One challenge idea... Ff9 100%? 😂 for extra squeakiness do it on original PAL version
Incidentally I've been trying to do a 100% run for about 4 years, so I'm not really serious about it, I'm convinced it's nearly impossible.
doing me best to help u algorithm, amazing vids men
Much appreciated!
Speed doesnt actually affect Thievery Damage. The damage is influenced by how many times Zidane has used steal command
Love these videos can you do the star ocean series?
This is like one of the 3 ff games I never played. Looks like alot of fun.
For me it's the best of the FF series. Really charming game.
Best imo. Almost every aspect
The three or four people who prefer X to IX: *Tidus Laugh* at IX's idea of "max stats".
X laughs in sphere grid and asks what is exp
I love FFIX, but X is more popular
X was the first FF game where I handed off the controller because I was literally bored by the game. Let my girlfriend at the time go through the storyline while I watched and did some grinding / blitzball while she slept.
All characters except Amarant can basically deal 9999+ damage by reflecting spells, collecting items, killing certain enemies, or stealing enough. Steiner has Shock too.
Do we have a "How OP can you get and still obtain Excalibur 2"?
Thanks for putting the work into this
My pleasure!
Great work as always...
Thanks a lot 😊
Started game again so refreshing my memory
Great channel, you deserve more subscribers!
Great video as usual. I love these. Keep 'em coming man :)
Thanks! Will do!
Interesting as always. This is one of the ~5ish games I have in rotation atm, don't think I will be trying this.
Your video are always fun to watch
glad you like it :)
This makes me love ff8 card modding
Whenever I hear max stats, usually Disgaea comes to mind so when I look at these stats it looks weak. But in reality for the game is really good.
Disgaea has max stats?
Great video! I also have an addiction to being as overpowered as possible.
Yes!!
How did I not know this about FFIX leveling all this time? 🤯
Here's your comment :) I'm definitely watching any ff9 video you make. Keep up the excellent work
Awesome, thank you!
Love your videos, got a ton of good tips from your FF8 ones.
Glad to help!
I'm assuming the Steiner Marcus trick is also patched out of the Switch release as well?
yes all digital ports are based off the mobile port
Probably. Pretty sure the Switch version is based on the PS4/PC version.
I honestly never knew that gear ACTUALLY mattered for level up stats in this game! I could've sworn to god stats were all fixed...
so the gear do give fixed stats on equip, but they also give fractions on level up while they're equiped :)
Oof. WTH?! Marcus is already Lv 70 on my Steam game... Ooops... But thank you. Those last 20 levels take FOREVER and I'm doing them manually with no scripts or turbo controller or whatnot. You set me free!
Top work as always!
Appreciate that
Would love to see you overpower in VI.
Here for that grind!
good man!
Love these!
