I hope you keep the videos coming, even if it's a similar project, like a different size. Very interesting, and you've got me wanting to give it a try. Thanks again

    • @McCormickLeatherandFurs
      @McCormickLeatherandFurs  2 года назад +1

      A small or large throw or blanket is just adding or deleting pelts, once they are blocked out the first time you get an idea of size, same technique use for raccoon, ( they vary more in size) , coyote are larger, hand sewn or machine sewn basically same procedure, good luck !

    Hard to find good info about how to stretch finish and sew fur.

    • @McCormickLeatherandFurs
      @McCormickLeatherandFurs  2 года назад +2

      How much can you stretch, a fresh pelt has a lot of give, I stretch until it feels tight, on a fox the bellies are real stretchy , where the center part of skin is a bit less so, start at bottom work to each side then up to the top, you can always move a few staples in or out , keep your center on center.
      Hope this helps.
      Good luck sewing.

    • @McCormickLeatherandFurs
      @McCormickLeatherandFurs  Год назад

      Basically I'm just stitching around a block of 2 or 3 squares on the lining side, using a regular needle, just doing a hidden back stitch that barely catches all layers, not to tightly, it helps hold layers together.

    What's the purpose of the cold tape? Reinforcement for stitching?

    • @McCormickLeatherandFurs

      Cold tape is applied along edges before cutting it helps make it easy to trim the fur and keeps it from stretching while its sewn by fur machine. It works great. Buy from furrier supplier like Samuel Bauer

    • @McCormickLeatherandFurs

      I'd check out some fur hand sewing videos for techniques. Some use sinue and glover type hand sewing needles they have a 3 point kind of razor point. But fox is so thin you could probably use a reg needle. Another type thread is rices silamide its pre waxed comes in a skein I'd use size C thread the A size is to fine.

    Wow what a beautiful handcrafted blanket! You don't ever see these for sale. I have problems getting a button properly sewed on a shirt so I doubt that I will be attempting something like you have created. It is just nice to see that somebody still has the skills to do this work. Do you have an approximate guess as to how many hours it takes to make one of these?

      Thanks for the feedback, I would guess I had about 35 to 40 hours in this blanket, with alot of inbetween drying time each time I blocked out pelts during the process. If your ever interested in purchasing a similar blanket let me know I have some trapper friends I can get pelts from to make another for you.

    Thank you so much Deanna. I have a construction company but looking to get into this as well. First as hobby and private use but perhaps could start doing this professionally. This is a really good video for my insights ! Thank you so much !
    I’ll send you an email for some questions about your trapper friends and pelts available if you don’t mind.
    Kind regards,

    Great video! Do you sew for others? I have 22 coyote pelts and I’d like a throw made like that. Excellent work very impressive. I’m interested in having you sew a project for me if you are?
