I hate to brag, but growing up in Michigan in the 60's, I was privileged to see the MC5 countess times and I never got tired of it. One of my most favorite bands ever. If you aren't familiar with the Detroit music scene in the 60's and early 70's, you missed a phenomenal period of time. Nice job James and thanks for keeping it alive. In the 10th grade, my band did a PTA talent show and we promised we would say brothers and sisters rather than the real lyrics. Of course we had to stay true to the MC5. We got in a huge amount of trouble but it was worth it.
Wow! Thanks for the lesson - somehow I missed this band back in the day. I rectified that by listening to their Anthology album on Amazon Prime. I was blown away.
If I remember right, MC5 opened up for Chuck Berry at Mich. St. Fair grounds May 30 1969. Chuck Berry wouldn't come out until someone returned his mic. Never heard of MC5 until then...I had just got my first guitar.
Dude, I've been watching your videos and learning songs from you for a lot of years. I started watching you before you shut down or re-named your channel due to the billions of commenting trolls. I'm here again learning to kick out the jams and I just want to say that I appreciate all the music you have put on RUclips as well as the fact that you own over 2000 good T-shirts.
I cant believe you are doing this one, what a band my first drug experience in 1969 I discovered this LP, also Chicago's first LP. And using a Peavey Predator, I have the exact same model...thanks for the memories.
Wayne kramer and his playing style made me wanna play guitar now my dad was an ex army sgnt major and regiment boxing champ 5 yrs running and he fought everyone he was a middleweight but he fought and destroyed heavyweights anyway he wanted me to start boxing to take care of myself so he said if you do two hours a week with me on the heavy bag i will buy you a guitar and a nice one hows that of course i said yes so he true to his word took me to london and bought me a telecaster for £100 that was a weeks wages for my poor old dad so i boxed and learnt how to play the bullies left me alone completely and the guitar playing got me laid THANKS WAYNE.
Sorry to admit that I know little about MC5 and Wayne Kramer. However, I took your advice and searched out a few interviews with Wayne including one on his new album Lexington, name after the prison where he served some time in the 70's. Interesting guy and apparently great guitarist. Thanks for the enlightenment.
Hutsons department store refused to carry either version of the album and eventually they stopped carrying any albums from the label. MC5 was dropped from there label soon after.
Hey everybody - Wayne and Billy Bragg have a great nonprofit group going that I encourage you to support: Jail Guitar Doors. They bring guitars and lessons into American and British prisons. It’s a beautiful project. Look ‘em up and support them!
Big mac---as far as proto punk the 3 that are usually mentioned are Velvet Underground, MC5 and Stooges. I'd throw in Death and Electric Eels. Of course all the early garage bands with viscous attacks were like punk music also. As the Clash sang "We're a garage band, we come from garage land" Hard to pin down the exact first punk song---everyone has their own opinion.
Just heard Wayne passed away last night. RIP 💔🙏
James,
Thank you for the kind words. And lovely job on the instruction.
Bro w.
(ps: The intro and turn around is A to B. )

Fantastic history thanks for sharing
someone gave me tickets to Neil Diamond in Detroit & I am pretty sure that is where I saw the MC5 ! The wall of sound was impressive.
Bravo!!! Loved it.

Your thoughts on the presidents of United States of America’s cover of this?
What are guitar amp settings?

Have you ever owned any Charvel Guitars?
No.
Qual a afinação?
Is it true that it's arguably the first punk song?
Bigmac Attack I’d probably vote for Satisfaction.
To piggyback on "firsts", I consider Subterranean Homesick Blues to be the first rap song.
You Really Got Me anyone?
the Who My Generation
