    New Values is a real pop and/or melodic rock oddity in the Iggy Pop canon. Every song on it, from New Values to 5" 1', is full of great guitar riffs, great song arrangements, rich backing vocals, harmonies and even the beautiful ballad (!) Angel is an absolute masterpiece of production, with Thurston's gritty mixture of piano and slide guitar. Scott Thurston really is a talented, much underrated multi-faceted musician. New Values is awesome. When Iggy has some versatile musicians on his albums, that's when you get a Lust For Life, The Idiot and...New Values!

      About 10 billion years ago I was in a covers band. We did Lizzy, Sabbath and Van halen numbers BUT did Iggy/Stooges and Ramones too. Always interested me to see how those songs went down with a metal 'crowd'. Sometimes appreciated, sometimes not! Ha ha... Iggy is a genuine rock n roll icon. A genius at what he did. Love him! Cheers - PT.

    Ace song! Being mega pedantic, the title of the video is a great example of why punctuation works. Witness "Im Bored by Iggy Pop", versus "I'm Bored, by Iggy Pop". I glanced at the title and read the first meaning, at first; then realised the Channel, and immediately clicked back into shape - hehe. Great video, as usual :)

    Great lesson for an underrated track. This and your lesson on Love Comes in Spurts are among my favourites you’ve done. I thought the solo was going to be more difficult but your breakdown of it made it a lot easier. It will still take a while to play it at normal speed though! Even though I’ve been playing for 30+ years I’m still finding new things to learn to improve my playing from teachers like you. Do you have any tips on tremolo picking? I find it difficult to maintain consistent attack and speed.
    Also, who the hell gave this lesson a thumbs down?

    The LP Jr. type guitar in the Old Grey Whistle Test performance, is most likely an old Melody Maker.
    They came in a few different variations, but that would be my guess to what guitar it is.
    Joan Jett played one for a long time too, different version though, but the shape is the same.

    • @michaeltobin643
      @michaeltobin643 3 года назад +1

      Peruse the comments for those OGWT vids, some great gear discussions regarding what Thurston was using at that time.
      The guitar was modded with humbuckers, either a Melody Maker or Epi Olympic.
      Thx Adrian, a remnant of my lost youth in Detroit. 'Five-Foot-One' was a hit song there, turned everyone on to this song too and the whole 'New Values' record. Still one of my favorites to this day!

    • @briancrawford7870
      @briancrawford7870 3 года назад +1

      Yes - Definitely a Gibson Melody Maker with double cutaway and double pickups (modded). The other gentleman (in the OGWT performance) playing the white guitar is playing an Ovation Breadwinner.
      Biggest fan of Adrian's channel and I'm staggered hearing all the songs from my formative years!
