By bringing Mark Arm and Steve Turner onstage this is also a Green River reunion since Green River was Mark Arm, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Steve Turner. I was working at a club called the Chatterbox in 1987 when Green River played there. And they instantly became my favorite band at that time and I saw them every time they played San Francisco after that. I also saw Pearl Jams first small club shows in San Francisco because they had former Green River members so I knew they would be great. But I was unprepared for just how great they would be until Eddie Vedder came out and started singing. This video is making me very nostalgic for those great times in the 1980s and 90s.
I've been going through all the Kick Out the Jams, and I think this may be my favorite. Of course...it took them twice as many people to rock it as hard as MC5.
Arm does a great job...not the greatest MC5 track, but much better than i expected. Rage Against the Washingmachine get credit for the WORST version...less inspired than a 70 year old Brother Wayne and a lesser cast of hired guns.
it's like a dream moment.. you get 2 of the best bands of the 90's.. put them together in front of thousands and thousands of brazilians and let them play a cover of one of the most revolutinary american bands of all times.. FUCKING AMAZING!!!
This video is how I discovered the MC5, many years ago in my early 20s. It started a love affair that persists to this day. Thanks Pearl Jam (and part of Mudhoney).
i saw the MC5 reunion with Mark singing; FUCKING COOLEST THING EVER!!! talked to Mr McLaughlin for a long time afterwards; coolest guy EVER; period. zero rockstar attitude. I love that guy!!!
Are boys always have played well together. Fun in our days, I never realized steve was in the mid front! Awesome show yourself and the guitar style that is distinctively yours.
i remember reading something about kurt wanting to be like green river (or was it mudhoney) and the pixies.. either way mark arm fronted green river and mudhoney. have fun :)
Anyone who thinks this is better than the original is just a fool. That's the gift of Vedder. He know's great music and makes it. That which he can't make he celebrates.
this is awesome. seeing green river together again at subpop20 was a highlite of my life. It was on my birthday too. You should look at my video for Frank McKracken. Very grunge of course as I'm from Seattle. Peace all
@ExileCanadaMetal It was a different age, there were lots of fresh new material when mc5 started and dispite them being fresh they were only a fresh fruit in a fresh pomar.
this is in brazil but portuguese people still have good taste cuz eventhough there are some dudes who listen to gaga we still have those rockers who crowdsurf and msoh a good jam
@theachtungtree You are right but there's no denying that KOTJ established MC5's place in rock history. Compared to everything else being played then it was on another planet. Detroit Rock was on another planet!!!
I fucking love it. FUCKING AWESOME. MC5 with the original, Blue Oyster Cult with the kick ass cover, and fucking Mudhoney with fuckin PEARL JAM with this AMAZING BADASS RENDITION Jesus.
I love the mutual respect and love both bands show each other here. Pearl Jam rocketed to international stardom during the Grunge Revolution, while Mudhoney didn't have that same level of success. Oh, they were famous, but not Nirvana-NIN-Pearl Jam famous, you know? Maybe it's local bias, but for my money Mudhoney was always the better show. YMMV and all that.
Nope. Arm and Turner make this happen, because they'll always have it in the genes. PJ, a bit more reserved. Eddie should have sat this one out and did backing vocals. This must be so fun to play.
I find it hard to choose between this and the Rage cover. This is more rocker where Rage is more attitude. I guess it depends on what style you're in the mood for.
Grunge's Who's who...soundgarden drummer, mudhoney vocalist and guitarist, pearl jam vocalist, guitarists & bassist...thereby reforming green river....Now if only dave grohl were there as well, and the family would have been complete...btw mark arm looks really different here....

every version of this song gives me the chills, the energy and the in your face attitude. gotta love it
it's like a dream moment.. you get 2 of the best bands of the 90's.. put them together in front of thousands and thousands of brazilians and let them play a cover of one of the most revolutinary american bands of all times.. FUCKING AMAZING!!!
Pearl jam= my favorite band
Mudhoney= freakin awesome
MC5= an organator of awesome
I had the pleasure to see this concert live. This was in Brazil in 2005.
This video is how I discovered the MC5, many years ago in my early 20s. It started a love affair that persists to this day. Thanks Pearl Jam (and part of Mudhoney).
unbelievable performance...and MC5 are one of the most important musical treasures that ever walked this planet
And they are being inducted into the rock hall of fame 2024
I have seen a lot of covers of this song, this is by far the best.
Very, very nice song, i was there 03-12-2005.
Unforgettable.
this has gotta be the best cover by a mile !!!! "...WE GOTTA KICK `EM OUT..."
i saw the MC5 reunion with Mark singing; FUCKING COOLEST THING EVER!!! talked to Mr McLaughlin for a long time afterwards; coolest guy EVER; period. zero rockstar attitude. I love that guy!!!
Are boys always have played well together. Fun in our days, I never realized steve was in the mid front! Awesome show yourself and the guitar style that is distinctively yours.
love the pearl jam/mudhoney, RATM, and of course the original MC5 versions! All great bands all great music.
This rocked way harder that Rage!! This cover is awesome!!!!
i remember reading something about kurt wanting to be like green river (or was it mudhoney) and the pixies.. either way mark arm fronted green river and mudhoney. have fun :)

I never heard Mark Arms voice so good and clear
This is great the best thing I have heard in a long time.
Yes, I have to agree, best cover I've seen to this song. People don't rock like that anymore, it's sad.
How you know you did awsome not because you rock it out ( MC5) but because everyone wants to rock it out.
Anyone who thinks this is better than the original is just a fool. That's the gift of Vedder. He know's great music and makes it. That which he can't make he celebrates.
Awesome! And Eddie speaking portuguese is class!
This will always be the testament of MC5 and everything after the grunge movement is a testament to MC5.
Good cover!!! kick out the jams!!!
if jeff buckley was still alive he should join in aswell cuz he did an amazin cover of this song!
this song is electric! goose bumps everytime.mc5 says thanks.
this is awesome, was hoping for a GreenRiver song
i was there
Isso foi em 2005?
Quite possibly the best version of this song fucking EVER
Nah, not even close. Glad you like it though.
Kick ass!!!!!!!
F**king Awesome!
this is awesome. seeing green river together again at subpop20 was a highlite of my life. It was on my birthday too. You should look at my video for Frank McKracken. Very grunge of course as I'm from Seattle. Peace all

hommage au légendaire MC5 ,précurseur de pleins de bonnes choses.... géant !!!!!
Matt held that whole thing together.
3.20 FTW!!!!!!!
great stuff right there!
@ExileCanadaMetal
It was a different age, there were lots of fresh new material when mc5 started and dispite them being fresh they were only a fresh fruit in a fresh pomar.
Bruh, this is ain't Mudhoney and Pearl Jam, this is Green River!

this is in brazil but portuguese people still have good taste cuz eventhough there are some dudes who listen to gaga we still have those rockers who crowdsurf and msoh a good jam
completely agree with everything you just said
Almost Green River!
vaya tela,brutal!
oh hell yea... that kicked so much ass... gonna listen again
i absolutely agree. they know what real music has to be like!
(apart from the fact that it´s the brazilians, not the portuguese, i think)
oh yeah!
Foda ! Esse dia foi épico
ooooho the fucking good times!!!!!
Que temazo!!
YMMV and all that.
agree fully..
Rock n Roll wins 4 ever
even if Jam will put in music the telephone directory it would sounds great!
"Dr Mark Arm" lmao
@RobertJohnson1938 Dont forget Street Sweeper Social Club................its amazing haha!
This is the only cover that has as much raw energy as the original MC 5 recording.
I luv me some mudhoneys. and pearl jams
@ExileCanadaMetal Its not that Mudhoney couldnt. Its that they didnt want to. The whole idea behind the grunge scene was to keep it small
Is it only me or Mark arm is 83 times better that Eddie vedder?
Viva Mudhoney!
Nope. Arm and Turner make this happen, because they'll always have it in the genes. PJ, a bit more reserved. Eddie should have sat this one out and did backing vocals. This must be so fun to play.
Well done
I find it hard to choose between this and the Rage cover. This is more rocker where Rage is more attitude. I guess it depends on what style you're in the mood for.
great version
@ninive207
thats spanish...
it should be "combinação não boa"
Matt is murdering the drum kit on this one.
naprawde i sie podoba...i nawet jakosc wporzadku. I BTW. kocham ta osobe podemna :* Arafacia:*
i was there!!
Soundgarden, man. And what about the ones no one talks about? Love Battery? Skin Yard? The Fluid? Tad?
MUDHONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
niceeeeeeeeeeee
KICK ASS!!!
I agree, mainly because Mudhoney doesn't get that much recognition. Steve has a better guitar tone than any of those guys.
two icon of grunge
Rock!!
Grunge's Who's who...soundgarden drummer, mudhoney vocalist and guitarist, pearl jam vocalist, guitarists & bassist...thereby reforming green river....Now if only dave grohl were there as well, and the family would have been complete...btw mark arm looks really different here....
